Script Boot Animation - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Afternoon guys,
Just out of curiosity, is it possible to not have a boot animation and just show the code that is running in the background?
I'm not all for that fancy loading screens and stuff and it would look neat to see the running code during bootup instead.
Thanks!

Which rom u are using, Touchwiz, AOSP, AOKP,CM ?
and what do you mean no boot animation?
If you delete the bootanimation you will have a blackscreen while the device is booting.
If you mean the Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) message before the bootanimation is starting then is the answer No, you can't remove that message.
If you want to remove the boot animation after this message while the device is booting then the answer is yes you can remove it.
I hope u understand this man

What he is looking for is to see the commands Android is executing while booting, similar to booting Windows in safe mode. Over on the Inspire 4G forums one of the devs did this, and it wasn't well received. He slipped it into his ROM without telling anyone and they all thought their phones were broken. To make it happen requires modding the kernel.

Yeah Strephon that's what I'm looking for, unfortunately I'm not handy with modifying kernels like that so I guess that's that. But thank you very much for replying guys!

How to cook a rom?

So, there are so many people making really good roms now. A little dash of this and a hint of that, and viola, your flashing my rom on your phone!!
So how do you start cooking roms?
What software is needed? Do you need eclipse? Do you just need a file manager and an unzip utility?
Has anyone created a tutorial on cooking a rom?
I have some skill with android, and am pretty good and flashing and stuff, I wouldnt mind adding root a build that I like or taking something else out. Maybe add an app to the image, or add an option to my recovery image.
Where do I start?
Have a look at this thread, particually post #8
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530972
Also you could try posting in the Sapphire Android development forum next time
Thanks, Im up and going now. Me and my brother (my brother and I) are going to make a 'loaded' rom with lots of apks preloaded apks.
Question, where are the default wallpapers stored? What about the animated boot logo?

The boot animation depends if you're asop or sense. Sense (If I remember correctly) is System/customize/resources. And ASOP is System/Media

Just to check make sure all animations are turned on under settings>display
just as well do not make your animations fast with spare parts, they need to be set to normal.
At that point the crt animation should be working IF it's included in the build.
Can anyone verify? I don't have a droid x

Spare parts doesn't need root to change the speed of animations; just download it from the market.

Oh. Well either way it should be on it's default settings..
Even with all animations enabled in settings and in spare parts, the CRT animation doesn't happen .
I guess it's for Samsung, SE, LG and HTC phones only then ..sad sad..
It's not just that only LG and HTC put it into their builds, Google included it in Gingerbread... Motorola just took it out, but that's not to say we won't have someone dev up a rom with this very important feature included.
im not familiar with the crt animation.. is that when the phone is powering down?

No it's actually a GB feature. First demoed on the Nexus S a while back.

crt animation enabled and working not for noobs
Disclaimer if you brick its not my fault but i found this guide in the i9000 forum i have a vibrant also and this is the same method used all credit goes to the OP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977501
this method works just tested on the prerooted gb rom for the droid x should also work for the droid 2 the animation is built in to gingy you just have to enable it
Edit: in the step that asks for the twframework-res.apk you must use the moto-res.apk to compile with
i also used the autodeodex app to dump the image to my pc

I have also confirmed this method works. As stated by silver2ks4, make sure to use moto-res.apk as the dependee apk. Also, avoid trying to shortcut this process by using RootExplorer, as you will more than likely encounter a boot loop (I know from experience ). Be sure to use ADB as prescribed by the OP. All of the steps are there, and the process takes less than 5 minutes to complete. Really nice effect!
Awesome! I followed the instructions and it worked quite nicely. To be honest, this was the number one UI aspect I was looking forward to in gingerbread and I was so sad to see it not present in Motorola's build. Thanks a million for the link to the tutorial.
Is there a non-adb method to getting this to work? ya know for us folk who have never used adb before.

Haha, htc hardware is quite superior comparing to samsuck. There are no lag to be "fixed" to begin with.
You will need to root it to run custom boot animations.

First you need root some kind of file manager. I use root explorer. Then you download the bootanimation you want. If its not already named bootanimation.zip, rename to that.
If you're using an asop rom like cm7 the bootanimation will be located in system/media, if you're using a sense rom the bootanimation will be located in system/customize/resource. All you do is copy the bootanimation you downloaded and paste it in the correctsponding place depending on the rom you're using. Make sure you switch the permission to r/w before pasting. In root explorer the r/w r/o button is on top.

This is by far the best ROM for the MT4G

Reopening - let's make sure we all stay on topic and contribute to real development
[WIP] ICS SDK-Port
Ok so iv'e been following the "developer's" foox22
THANKS TO ANDROID REVOLUTION HD (Mike1986) for letting me use their port as a base of this!
(my 1.st zip was this way but then i got no boot.img that was optimized for this)
Forgive me for this post/topic, but this is the zip that should make the ICS to boot,
if you notice its a black and nothing else then its should be due to no "edited build.prop of our resolution!
that's why someone here before never got it to "boot"
http://www.multiupload.com/IU8R71F500
if this doesn't boot up, try get a logcat
And yes you all other developers can try get me a logcat // REGARDS
Im gonna delete your other thread
Do we have a list of what may not work currently?

i need to know what if its loading properly, if anyone just can try V007, as that's the one that is correct, boot.img loads all correct framework file's if it doesn't boots up then its a, screen resolution problem or a lib problem,

black screen, you did wipe everything ??
Moving this to General - there really isn't any real development going on other than some copies, pastes, and asking testers to bork their device. The OP can't test this on his own device but is asking others to do it for him. This is not development. When something of substance happens - then create a new thread that is actual development in the development section.
ok so to repack the boot.img
blobpack <headerfile=kernelblob.HEADER> <outfile=kernelblob> <partitionname=? kernelblob.ebt or kernelblob.LNX > <partitionfile=kernelblob.ebt or kernelblob.LNX >
and is this even nessesary ?_? kernelblob.LNX-config
what did this come from, after i repacked the kernelblob.LNX O___o

You are right, it's no use for us... the Galaxy Nexus has NEON support, all binaries are compiled with that, and our TF (and every Tegra2 tablet) misses NEON...

Custom animations on this phone?

Hey everyone, I was checking out some apps today and stumbled across this: Boot Animation app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.boot.animations
And there are some sick looking animations. Has anyone ever tried this for this phone? Was it successful or did it jack it up?
If someone knows that could tell that would be great.
Much appreciated!

It works great as long as your kernel supports it.
Any AOSP ROM will likely work fine.
Stock TouchWiz ROM will NOT support it, nor will Google Edition. At least not with stock kernel.
Even rooted, those kernels require QMG boot animations. Which this app you linked to does not support.
Excellent, thank you very much. I'm on stock everything just rooted. I was gonna try it, but I'm glad I asked.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337
I've looked at this but wasn't sure either. I'll be interested to see if it works.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189934
And if you have the ROM/kernel's that require QMG format boot animations, but don't want to use that type of animation, then go to this thread and follow the directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897969
After applying his mod, you can now run the bootanimation.zip type boot animations provided by ROM Toolbox and Aniboot apps on the Play Store. Such as the link in the OP.
