Ok, so i love Motorola as a company, despite the recent hate (which is not justified in my opinion), i love all their products and i think they are great. I owned a Moto G 1st gen and bought the Moto G 2nd gen right after the launch and loving it even more after Android L update, so i have a wish list for the next gen
If they want to dominate the mid range phone segment and make a killer smartphone i would recommend the next wish list, i don't know if it is possible for the price, so here it is:
Display: 5” - 5.5" full HD IPS 1080 x 1920 pixels
Processor: Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 615 octa-core chipset (MSM8939) 64-bit
GPU: Adreno 405
RAM: 2 GB A MUST!
Storage: 16GB, microSD card slot, up to 64GB
Camera: 8 Megapixel Rear Camera, 2MP Front Camera
Battery: 2700 mAh
Software: Android L or latest
Dual front facing speakers
And all the conectivity, GPS, microUSB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth etc.
For the same price! Or max 200$
What do you guys think? Is it possible?
You are pretty much describing the Moto X, but at the price of a Moto G.
I'd say 5-5,2", 720p screen, Snapdragon 410, LTE , 16GB ROM, 2GB RAM, camera stabilizer, microSD, 2700 mAh battery. So the same thing with a bit of an improvement in the processor, LTE, more RAM, more battery and stabilization for the camera; exactly what the Moto G 2nd Gen lacks of.
Just more RAM - 2 GB would be the best possible improvement. With the other specifications I am ok actually.
I only add more RAM and 64bits processor
And LTE By default for all models
Sent from my XT1068 using XDA Free mobile app
2GB Ram
Snapdragon 615
LTE
Adreno 405
2400 mAh battery
That would keep it competitive with newer mid-range phones coming out.
Keep the screen the same. Camera could use some improvement, but I don't want a bump in price, so I could do without that. I don't even mind 8GB internal since it has an SD slot.

Moto x 2nd gen has a snapdragon 801 32-bit processor and a amoled display where are they the same? Please point the similarities here is the spec list of the X 2nd gen http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_x_(2014)-6649.php
Well, I meant "a" Moto X. I just don't see it happening for 179-200$ and those specs are high-end, so if you wanted something similar you should be looking for a Moto X. It'd cost you, but you aren't getting this at that price.

The price for those components will drop by the end of the year when the Moto G 2015 wil come out, look at this phones, and you will see it is possible Zenfone 2 http://www.androidauthority.com/asus-zenfone-2-hands-first-impressions-579187/ 200$ for the base model, ZTE Blade S6 $250 and you get Lollipop, Snapdragon 615, LTE, and a 13MP camera http://www.androidauthority.com/zte-blade-s6-price-specs-features-583086/

Those really aren't high end specs in 2015, that's similar to what the next crop of already announced midrange phones is offering. Component are getting cheaper and the mid-range market is more competitive now than when the first Moto G came out.
An OLED FHD display would be nice, especially for the night mode so the smartphone can finally be used as a suitable nighstand alarm clock without that awful background light all the current smartphones are emitting... !!!
Other than the above:
64bit 4/8 core CPU
2GB of LPDDR4 RAM
16GB ROM
Gorilla Glass 4
Replaceable 3200 mAh Li-ion or Supercapacitor
8-12 Mp Camera with stabilization and depth sensor
2-5 Mp Front facing camera
5"-5.1" FHD OLED display
Better stereo front speakers
And maybe a little less plastic for the housing
My wishlist would be basically slightly upgraded Moto G LTE
4.5" screen
2Gb ram
Larger battery
Better camera
8GB ROM with microSD slot.
Wireless charging.
Sidenote, I'm not convinced that Moto G needs to over 5" screensize because one of it's strongest selling points aside from clean OS is that there are very few options in it's size group unless you go for used and/or older models. For example, Samsung's compact models are really underwhelming while Sony's offerings are very expensive, then you have random budget-brands which I wouldn't touch even with a 10-foot pole. LG has couple models that are pretty close, but display resolution is disappointing.
if thats what the 2015 moto g is going to have, im leaving the flagship, sorry, this is my choice
As per the specs u want be ready to pay heavily as u have described a Moto gen X 2
---------- Post added at 11:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:49 AM ----------
And by considering the specs suggested by some members i think it will beat the price of Nexus 6 or Moto X 2 . lol

BAD
5", 1080p, Snapdragon 801 (even with 3GB RAM) is early 2014 specs for a top-tier phone.
GOOD
It does have stereo speakers, which I wished our Moto Maxx phones had.
Has rear OIS camera, which our Moto Maxx phones SHOULD have, but don't.
And 3100 mAh battery is pretty good for those "mid tier" specs, as the early 2014 5.5" LG G3 with 1440p, Snapdragon 801 also with 3GB RAM and stereo speakers only has a 3000 mAh battery...
But our Moto Maxx phone has 3900 mAh, and we have Kevlar like this phone has. In fact, the Moto Maxx with ballistic nylon has ballistic nylon + Kevlar.
And we have 5.2", 1440p, Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAm with 64GB storage.
So, other than the stereo speakers and OIS camera, the specs seem to be mostly less than the Moto Maxx XT1225?

I did look the original article, not your thread. That's where I got the Kevlar from, and the stereo speakers, and the OIS rear camera. That's not mentioned in the brief follow up you first posted.
Your thread states specs the original article does not. Did they update some specs?

EDIT: seems like the article linked by Android Authority has a couple of outdated specs.
https://www.saygus.com/v2/
They've upgraded internal memory to 64GB.

If not, then there's nothing else of interest in the specs. I don't care for fingerprint scanner, so I didn't mention it. Was there something in particular you think I missed?
Phone was delayed but they didn't update the hardware specs.

- Front facing 13MP camera with OIS ON THE FRONT!
- Two microSD card slots (of which you CAN boot from them)
- 60 GHz fractal wireless gaming antenna
- The list goes on. Again read the original thread to see all the features it has. You're getting hung up on a proccesor that's barely a year old. It still performs very well and doesn't have overheating issues like the 810 (or so they say the 810 overheats, that's a different topic). My point is this is a very interesting phone and it still seems like a solid device. Also some still like a 1080p screen. Given that content in 4K in not as readily available as Full HD content is. 4K is not a must have for some. Also having a 1080p screen saves on battery (we all know this)
I will admit at $550 the phone is a little on the expensive side.
We shall all see on 5/22 what happens; I still have my doubts.
And the 801 processor is now 2 generations behind, not to mention the rest of the specs are no longer 'bleeding edge' but simply "good"
Not saying its going to suck, but its certainly not going to be king of the mountain when it come out.

Dont think they'll go QuadHD. That would drive prices up and moto found a nice market for now. They're not that stablished yet. Also I think the 16GB is gone and no MSD, that would "kill" moto design for the X. Unless moto comes up with a trully insane new phone, I'll remain on my 2014. This thing is still a beast

Of course I'm talking about the Moto x 3rd Gen.I honestly can't wait. I feel like a little kid waiting to open Christmas presents. I seen the leaked render of this device just a little bit ago, It looks great. The picture was pixelated and blurry but you could see the jest of it. The camera, flash and dimple are all lined up in this rounded-rectangle strip on metal on the back. It looks very premium, the front of the phone just simply looks like a streamlined flat AMOLED panel with 2 front facing speakers (at least that's what is seems to be). I guarantee all Moto users are going to be proud of this device. like come 'on 4GB on RAM! and look at that chipset and pixel density. This is going to be a gift from the higher up.

Same. I am more intrigued with the Nexus because of Google I/O:
1. I am certain a fingerprint scanner will be included
2. USB type C. Now that is something to be happy about
3. OIS and all that camera stuff will be in the next Nexus
4. Wireless charging & fast charging. Both of best worlds
5. Having the latest Android OS version. Android M is going to be awesome, I want it. I will consider buying a Nexus this year if rumors of an LG one is correct (or Huawei), depending on price
6. A lot of the specs will be the same as the first post
not enough of an upgrade to get me to buy day one. maybe after the price drop.

Yes, I'm also interested in what Nexus is going to put out this year. I know that's its going to have an outstanding spec sheet, It always does. That fingerprint scanner would be nice, unfortunely i don't think the new Moto X will have it but you never know. It's more than likely that the new Moto X will be guaranteed updates after it's intial release. Hopefully Motorola improves the camera, OIS would be great and they need to work on getting consietent high quality photos. Image processing needs to be improved also. I tryed the Nexus 6 for about a month and it was perfectly fine in preformance but it's too large. I think the next Nexus smartphone should have a 5.5 inch display at most. Wireless charging & fast charging im sure will be in the new Moto X. LG or Huawei huh? Both are great cmpanies. LG with its G4 and Huawei with its P8. My vote is on Huawei. I also seen the new Moto G rumored specs. 2GB of RAM, larger battery, higher MP count, 16GB base model, same 5 inch screen but in 1080p this time around, Better chipset and more. It amazes me how fast technology is evolving, if the new Moto G would of came out last year it could sure contend with some flagship smartphones.
The only thing that stands out for me is the 1080p video capture at 120fps (slow mo). Not really enough for me to want the new Moto X. I'll most likely wait for the price to be dropped before biting the bullet.
In regards to the new Nexus, I'll never buy a Nexus phone again after owning the Nexus 4 and 5 - awfully bad call quality issues and a lack of acknowledgement from Google (poor support). Nexus 6 was just stupid with it's almost 6" display lol. Probably get laughed at trying to hold that thing against my ear!! Anyway I don't think I can do without Moto Voice, it's too good!

Yeah, the 1080p 120fps slow mo will be great im sure of it. The specs that didn't exaclty stand out but were a little unexpected were the battery life & the RAM. I wasn't expeting such a leep in battery capacity to go from 2300 to 3280 mAh is awesome, that almost a 1000 mAh gain. I was expecting something in the ballpark between 2600-2900 mAh which is still good depending on the display and hardware. I was expecting 3GB of RAM for some reason. Maybe it's becuase the Moto X has always seemed to be 1GB of RAM lower than other flagships that came out during the same time. I guess Motorola is stepping up. As far as the expected changes and improvements i knew that Motorola would improve: the camera, chipset and display resolution. It's kinda unfortunate that the new Moto X will most likely not have expandable storage but at least the got rid of the 16GB variant. I am also gonna wait for a price drop, maybe around christmas or so and yes Moto Voice is beyond helpful, i love it. I think that's the dominant reason why i would choose the Moto X 2014 over the Nexus 6, well that and size of course.
I really hope that the MotoX 3rd Gen will have two models, one as large as the Nexus 6 or MotoX Pro (China). I really loved the MotoX and Nexus 6 and own both, but the Nexus 6 without Moto Display is disappointing. I've considered buying one from China, but I don't know if Google services can be installed afterwards. Anyhow, Motorola is about to grace us with a new device so its smarter to wait it out.
If any if these rumors are true, I'll be a happy camper.

Oh I forgot about the bigger battery. That'll be my other reason to want to switch but not straight away, probably when the price drops.
I don't really care about 4GB RAM at all. I think 2GB is more than enough for what most people would do on a smartphone. I've never ever felt like the RAM capacity is slowing me down or anything.
If anyone's interested, Amazon is apparently offering the Moto X 2014 for $199 new right now.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MW...sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165&keywords=Moto+x+2014
I would argue that the X right now is still a better deal than the 2015 G, given that it has the faster (though older) processor, slightly older but far less noisy camera and Moto Voice, as well as a metal frame. Just be sure that Android updates beyond Marshmallow aren't top priority.

If you're upgrading from the Nexus 5, I'd advise you actually wait for something better, or spend a bit more and get the 5X. You're getting a similar screen (same res, roughly same size, but now AMOLED), a slightly more powerful chip (but that's honestly splitting hairs) and a just as inconsistent camera. The only real upgrades here are the build and slightly newer stuff inside, and unless that's worth $199 to you, then wait.
This is more for people who are upgrading from anything older than 2013 (flagship) or 2014 (midrange), where the difference is going to jump. But from a nexus 5 it's not going to be significant enough in my opinion.

I have read it somewhere that Motorola wants to regain the lost market share in budget segment that's why they are planning to launch a best budget handset in 2016
Most of the leaks and rumors are suggesting
Snapdragon 650 SOC(some rumors are suggesting SD 430)
2GB - 16 GB. 3GB -32 GB Ram+ROM
13 megapixel camera
2850 mAh battery ( 3000 mAh in some rumors)
5 inches full HD display ( some rumors are suggesting that it will only be available in 32 GB variant)
Front cam 5mp
Dual front speaker
Gorilla glass 4
Android Marshmallow
Dual SIM
Expandable storage upto 64 GB
Dolby atmos
Price-249$ for 2 GB 299 for 3 GB
Source - moto g4
Source - Androidpit
This doesn't make sense... Moto will stick with the tried and true, I am pretty sure that the Moto G 4th Gen will be basically the same as the 3rd Gen with a few refinements and keep it in the same price range. They may do away with the 1GB model, but I doubt we will see a 3GB RAM model, or a full HD display, or Dolby atmos. The Moto G is a quality device at a very affordable price, if they jump the price significantly like the 25% to 50% you are talking about, it will significantly lower the volume of handsets sold, especially outside of the US.
