After going through the run around to get my phone rooted so I can removed the bloatware that came pre-installed on it (and after all this trouble I will say that I will never get another phone with MotoBlur on it ever again) I realize that I am ignorant in what could be considered it and what I may think is but is vital to the system.
*before I list what I think is bloatware I will say that I have backed up EVERYTHING on my phone so if something was to go wrong, I can always restore -- I also have the option to freeze the application, but I want to free up space on my phone as well*
Items in bold are the ones I am sure about, items in red I'm pretty sure shouldn't be removed, all others I don't know.

First off let me be clear. ... i am not an expert. If i was i would not have a motoblur phone. I am just a chump who ended up with one. I am someone trying to make the best of what i have. Don't do what i say or you may break your phone. All i can say is what i have tried and kind of what happened. My shorthand below is
Rok means i removed it and nothing unexpected seemed to happen.
? Means i have not tried it and or i think it would be risky to remove.
N means i just don't think its ok to remove.
I go into a little more detail on some of them.
Bottom line is if it has blur in its name then removing it is taking your phones life in your own hands.
My son found a stock rom that i have reflashed my phone with after i broke it by removing wrong stuff. I don't have the same phone as you though. Hunt and find a stock rom so you can fix your flubs.
NOTE: use ti backups and freeze system apps. If its a mistake just unfreeze. Removing and restoring system apps may not work out like you think....take it from someone who found out the hard way. If after freezing a while all seems ok then think about removing.

If you get Titanium Backup you can 'freeze' any app that you are thinking about removing and try the phone out. A lot easier than fixing it if you remove one you need.
Edit: Sorry - i see that TB has already been mentioned.
Experiments after Froyo
I have the Motorola Flipside, and I actually like the phone (which I selected based on wanting a full hardware keyboard), but the MAJOR flaw is the VERY limited internal phone storage. If it wasn't for that flaw, I would have little interest in replacing the phone. As it is, I have struggled with keeping the phone useful for about a year and a half, but plan to replace it very soon. I actually even like SOME of the MotoBlur features, especially the way it consolidates all of my contacts, but I really only use it for that.
I updated to Froyo during Motorola's smoke testing. The update was welcome, but AT&T and Motorola both loaded EVEN MORE bloat which just exacerbated the space issue. So I have my own list of stuff that I have deleted, which includes the social MotoBlur stuff but keeps the account management and contact sync features.
I'll try to get back here within the next couple of days to list out exactly how I've got things configured. Many of the apps have been changed, consolidated, or dropped, so I'll provide a complete list based on the 2.2.2 update.
... squirrel
i can say u need the home one. if you delete it your home page dissapears and its a pita to get back.
If youre rooted, try link2sd to save the limited spaced on the phone. I used it while I had this phone and never got memory full with over 60 apps.
link2sd and mb508
Yes, link2sd is great, I use and recommend it.
However, it is NOT sufficient to deal with the insanely limited space on the FlipSide. If you do a factory reset with the latest ROM (2.2.2), you will end up with something like 12MB of space. These days there are about 7 updates to the core applications, and you do not have enough space to load the updates.
To make space, you have to use the Link2SD feature of "convert system app to user app" so that it can be linked. But 12MB is not enough space for link2sd to convert any apps.
So load up Titanium backup, too, and delete some AT&T bloatware, then start converting system apps and linking them. This will be enough space for most people. My biggest problem is that I have about 1,500 contacts (I am an activist involved in politics). They take up about 40 MB of data space, and data cannot be linked to SD (really BAD design, IMHO). The only way I am able to make this phone useful is to remove about 90% of my contacts AND do the delete bloatware + link2sd stuff. The phone is functional at that point, but of course much less useful since I have to keep my contact list off-line. Even though I've got my most frequent contacts loaded, I often get phone calls or texts and don't even know who it is.

Just install cm7, you have lots of free space and no bloatware to remove! Plus its gingerbread so it gives better battery life. I use it and combined with link2sd, it makes this phone half usable

Doesn't always work. Mine will not give me the recovery access needed to install cm7 so that's not always an option. Plus most people want a fully functioning phone and not being able to use 3g and receive phone calls without rebooting or freezing is not, in my eyes anyway, fully functioning.

The link actually says it's for the Sage. One of the guys trying it says:
my findings are... the accelerometer does not work... meaning the screen doesn't change orientation when you turn the phone...
and
the telephone dials out... or rings when called... however... when it attempts to connect... it reboots the phone...
and
the camera is still broken

Are you using it on the FlipSide?

Sage is the developer name for the flipside, like motus is the backflip, olympus is atrix etc. That is correct. But I agree. If most important things aren't working, is there any point in having cm7?
In this same forum as this, the general flipside section, there is a newbie install guide. Use it...

Camera seems to work fine for me, the rebooting on call is an issue where you need to force 2G as it has problems with US 3G bands. I don't recall problems with the accelerometer, but to be honest I only use landscape with the keyboard open, which triggers the rotation just fine.
I've moved on to a Captivate Glide now, but I still have the Flipside running CM7 around for a backup and VoIP phone, I can dig it out and toy with it later to check the sensor for sure.
(edit)
Just checked, opened a browser and rotation via sensor worked perfectly. If you set ADW Launcher to persist in memory, it won't have the option to rotate based on sensor, so it's possible he thought the sensor wasn't working. I have no idea why, I assume it's a bug, but it's that way on any ADW afaik.

The massive contact list is why you have so little free space initially, I'd assume... A fresh flash of the latest .sbf had something like 60 MB free, iirc. It might actually be possible to manually symlink your contact database to the sd card, I've not tried it personally but a quick google seems to imply it's possible. Since you've got link2sd set up, it should be fairly straightforward.
cm7 flipside
the only bug I have noticed is the data connection being cancelled on call, everything else works for me on the flipside
Hi,
Is it possible to completely stop information leakage to google from my telephone, such as contacts or even aps purchased?

some options:
work without google apps! most custom roms come without it! GApps package is a additional zip!
many custom roms included privacy manager from cm. you define what the app is allowed to. for example read contacts yes or no
In AOSP Android (I think since 4.3 or 4.2) is app ops included. It's like privacy manager with detailed options.
hope it hepls. What rom you are using?

I am on 4.3 stock ROM. The phone is unlocked and rooted.
I tried CM Rom as part of 2 way call recording patch trial but had to revert back to ROM due to stability problems. But the problems were due to the trial nature of the patched ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45730852&postcount=47 I tried rather then general CM problems. So I suppose could try a stable, up to date version of CM ROM.
I suppose without Google Play I can not have paid apps like skvalex call recorder? If I have to leak some info to Google can I ensure no call details, contacts, calendar etc are shared / backed up etc to Google?

try a look at here:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...ager-control-permissions-for-individual-apps/
Technically yes, but practically no. Even if you stop now, you probably have used Google services in the past and they already have those info. Even if you do not use Google apps, there are lots of way for your phone to connect to Google server (various core Google apks). Lots of apps and websites use Google Analytic as well, although that info is supposed to be anonymous, or apps that utilize Google services in some way or purchased apps that required verification. You basically have to micromanage the permission of every app and this isn't exactly easy and is time consuming, slips up are easy too.
My recommends are:
Most effective: Be lke Richard Stallman, stop using internet completely, except for devices that isn't your. Don't use telephone at all. Have no WiFi running in your house and remove your address from Google Maps, then move to South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.
Less effective: Don't use 'gapps' and Google apps at all. You can use Amazon AppStore to download apps. Or use Firefox OS or Ubuntu Touch instead.
Less effective alternative: Use permission management. There are many ways to do this. Android 4.3 have AppOps and there are shortcut apps to let you access to the hidden menu, however it's not very convenient to use. It's better to use CM or SlimRoms which in addition have the Privacy Guard toggle feature (Settings -> Security-> bottom of list). SlimRoms let you turn it on for installed apps by default. It blocks access to contacts and location. I'm not sure if it block network and phone IDs info though.
For more refined permission management, there is the Xposed Framework module called XPrivacy. It has a high learning curve and blocking the wrong permission will cripple your apps or make it not working. There is also LBE Security Master and OpenPDroid, but I much prefer XPrivacy.
You can also use AFwall+ which modify the Linux kernel's iptables to block internet connection, this is the most assured method to block internet connection access for apps imo.
If you still need to make use of Google apps or services, such as facelock and photosphere, but want to avoid installing 'Google services framework', you can use these gapps packages and not install the core package. Keep in mind, 'Google services framework' is important for connecting to Google server and without it some 'find your phone' apps won't work like Cerberus.
You can see if your phone is connected or syncing to Google server by the color of the WiFi icon color, gray means no, and blue means yes.
I have always wondered about why someone would buy a smartphone, Android or iOS and then worry about security? Why not just buy a simple TracPhone or something similar?
Not trying to knock on anyone, just wondering.

So..
I hate having bloat on my electronics.
So much so that I go far above and beyond what most people would do. (uninstalling a few of your carriers apps)
Basically I will list APK's that can and can not be removed over the next couple of days.
Will probably start on this tonight and add to the list from there..
Keep in mind this is using a custom rom (insert coin), but I will try to keep this broad for everyone using stock or custom roms as both will have a lot of the same system apps. Which is what we are looking to remove.
This is the method I am using to remove these!
http://androidcowboy.com/2013/06/how-to-uninstall-system-apps-with-es-file-explorer/
You will need root to remove these!
Red: unsafe to remove
Black: unsure
Green: safe to remove

Also any help would be much appreciated, or if someone sees a sys app that isnt on the list that is not apart of a specific rom.
I am still on stock... And it probably doesn't need asking, but Amazon and Amazon MP3 can be removed as obvious bloat.
Also, I do not use "the Facebook" so I am planning on getting rid of "Facebook" and "HTC Facebook" which I can't imagine would be a problem... The only pause I had was that the OP has HTC Instagram listed as "unsure" to remove but that may be because he is an active user.
Edit: I removed:
Amazon
Amazon MP3 (system app)
Facebook (system app)
Facebook for HTC Sense (system app)
...so they can be added to the "Safe" list (for stock anyway).
Note: Just an FYI...when I disabled Kid Mode (I was S-On though), I lost T-Mobile's WiFi calling ability.
@PunchLick
stumbled across this today, very useful!!!!
may be worth adding that if users remove apps on rooted stock rom, they will need to restore these to apply any OTA file

I would suggest freezing them, rather than deleting them. You can't use that space anyway, because of the partitioning, and it is a lot easier to freeze/defrost than hunt down a backup.

You can't do anything to them until you disable them first. Titanium uninstalled them, but then they reappeared after reboot.
With regard to OTAs, I am rooted with TWRP, but was getting pestered to do an update. It now has downloaded on its own.
I read elsewhere this forum that it won't update though because of the custom recovery... and may even bootloop trying to update. Anyone know what I should do with this update?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hmm, it may make a difference that I am S-off as well as BL unlocked, and have been since day one. So far, TiBu works like it normally should on my phone, and I've used it to freeze a lot of stuff Sense wouldn't let me disable (system apps). It's possible that S-on phones ignore TiBu's attempt to freeze.
Since I have never spent an appreciable amount of time S-on, or run into these issues, I'll defer to a more experienced person on that.
Freezing bloat is always better than uninstalling it. The apps take up very little space. You can unfreeze if you have an issue. And you can still take an ota. Uninstalled them and you can not, until you find them and install them again, or return to stock.
Just my 2 cents. ?
I have just been disabling system apps under settings. It seems like more stuff is integrated in this version of Sense--which makes it harder to even do this though.
As of now, I have disabled Amazon, Facebook, Instagram, FMRadio widget, Lookout Security, and Set-up Wizard. I am going to experiment with disabling some more items tonight.
Anyone know what HTC Recommend (ver 2.0.772578) is? It has the option to be disabled from the app settings menu, dont think I use it so might just disable it. The same for FlexNet?
NOTICE: I HAVE PERSONALLY TESTED THE DELETION OF THESE APPS USING TITANIUM BACKUP WITH NO SYSTEM ISSUES. HOWEVER, I TAKE NO LIABILITY SHOULD ANYTHING GO WRONG. ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR DEVICE, AND DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK! SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME AND WILL BE ADDED TO THE ALPHABETICALLY ORDERED LIST
AFTER YOU DEBLOAT, YOU MAY LOSE SCREEN ROTATION. THE FIX IS EASY AND OUTLINED HERE
RED = LOSS OF PRIMARY SYSTEM FUNCTIONS (Ex: Screen Rotation)
GREEN = LOSS OF RELATED SYSTEM FUNCTIONS ONLY (Ex: Touchwiz Launcher, Knox)
WHITE = LOSS / REMOVAL OF APP ONLY (SELF CONTAINED. Ex: Flipboard)

Just a heads up, that rotation issue can be resolved by replacing a file that gets removed when Facebook is uninstalled. http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...-screen-rotation-fix-libgnustlshared-t3408140. One additional step I had to do was set permissions for the file to -rw-r--r--
How do you debloat ?

Thank you for this! I will do another debloat test tomorrow and add this to the guide! Great Info!

Thank you for the great list! I will test all of these out tomorrow and update the main post. Your feedback and contribution is appreciated!
PS: One common issue I have found is that you get the error "EmergencyManagerService has stopped working". This also causes Ultra Power Saving Mode to stop working correctly. Does anyone know what is responsible for this?

Hey Waterman,
No, I haven't received any errors like that. I just tried Ultra Power Saving mode and it seemed to work fine!

Hey everyone! Post here all the apps that you have successfully frozen, or removed, without any issues. If you know what they are responsible for, post that as well. I will keep this post updated in Alphabetic order!
After a couple days of debloating, messing up the system, and restoring, there are clearly some apps that cause major issues if removed. For example, the Facebook app causes the screen rotation function to permanently break, if it is removed. There is also another app that results in screen rotation breaking, I have yet to identify it, but I suspect it is one of the KNOX-related apps.
*UPDATE* We have some new information folks! I will be doing a very large debloat tomorrow and this thread will get a huge update
RED = LOSS OF PRIMARY SYSTEM FUNCTIONS (Ex: Screen Rotation)
ORANGE = LOSS OF RELATED SYSTEM FUNCTIONS ONLY (Ex: Touchwiz Launcher, Knox)
WHITE = LOSS / REMOVAL OF APP ONLY (SELF CONTAINED. Ex: Flipboard)

Safe To Freeze (No Loss Of Functionality If Frozen, LOSS OF FUNCTIONS IF REMOVED)

Nice thread ?
Hey everyone,
So I compiled this entire list and did it myself. I was doing it in batches. The last portion was after Phase Beam, and that caused an error in the system
"EmergencyManagerService has stopped working"
This causes the error to come up on every reboot, and breaks ultra power saving mode functionality. At this point I am going through them one by one and trying to identify which app breaks this when removed. This may take a while ...

Thanks for the topic/lists @WaterMan! & @kyoji001, I loves some debloating... wait! I... don't care for bloat... Err, both! :silly:
Are you guys using a particular tool for uninstallation or doing so manually? I've used TB with filters in the past but have encountered some (minor, but semi annoying) issues in the past. I had planned on using System App Remover on my next fresh install based on recommendations/friendliness wrt lib files but then an update added a location permission, which set off my sketch alert and put me off of that app.
Ok, this is going to be long... feel free to skim :good: I did an interesting test last night, although I'm still running 5.1.1 (TEKxodus 7.4R2). I had removed about 200 unwanted system apps along with their data via TB a couple of months ago. Like I said, issues were minor and sporadic (mostly various GAPPS fc's). My phone's been running fine, so I didn't bother trying the following until last night, mainly just in the interest of contributing to this discussion, although I can't say yet whether or not this is "safe" on MM... if you think it might be problematic for any reason, please chime in! The steps that I took are here: extracted the system/lib directory from my current ROM's install archive, cut & pasted the entire original system/lib directory into the same directory on the active TB debloated ROM skipping present files and replacing those that were missing/deleted - I skipped subfolders at first then checked my install to see if any of them were missing files which they weren't, next I wiped cache & dalvik in recovery and optimized databases in Synapse (for good measure...), step 4) ????, 5) Profit!(?)
I used Root Explorer to do my lib directory manipulation, and after copying the missing modules, I selected all files in my actual system/lib directories to get a count then did the same in the folder I had extracted which then contained all of the files that were already present and therefor skipped. There were 7 more files in my active lib directory, so it seems that's how many modules my debloating had removed.
I wasn't really sure if/how I'd be able to tell if restoring the modules had any positive effect since the only problems that I had with my phone were so sporadic. I did however run a bench (Antutu) before and after (this morning after the phone had been back on overnight and I had used it a decent amount). The main reason that I was curious about bench scores is that I expected to get higher average scores after debloating, but was surprised that my bench scores stayed exactly where they had been (always somewhere between 68,000 and 69,200. I always screenshot the detailed results with all of the sections expanded (scroll-capture :good: ) after running a bench and jot down any factors or settings that might have some impact on performance on the image before saving it.
Well, it turns out I was... very possibly... right to be suspicious about the lack of an increase in my average bench score. I made sure to use my phone some before testing after my dalvik/cache wipes and such - played a game for a bit, did some web browsing. So after some pretty surprisingly consistent scoring within a pretty narrow range, this morning I hit 72,871(!) with all of the extra points attributed to the (surprisingly, I suppose) 3D tests... some of the other results that I saw in the detailed section were actually a bit lower compared to my test from last night, but all within 500 points of my previous average, i.e. "normal". I'll test again in a week or so or before updating to MM (whichever comes first).
So to wrap this up, I would cautiously recommend this technique for debloating. Summarized: uninstall unwanted system apps however you want, then restore your system/lib directory to it's default install state from the extracted folder from whatever ROM you have installed. Do so at your own risk, of course, particularly if you're on MM. I'll follow the same steps that I posted after doing the update and report back on the results.
Thanks again for this thread and the bloat lists. This type of thread is always a super helpful resource!
The list I compiled is what I personally removed, and tested, using Titanium Backup. No side effects other than the app in question being deleted obviously. I just moved the list around, I have one last chunk of apps to go through. One of these causes the error "emergencyManagerService has stopped" when deleted, and also causes ultra power saving mode to stop working. I will have it done by tonight, and find exactly what app is doing this!

Hey Waterman,
Looking at your list my bet is on something to do with the Launcher. Ultra Power Saving replaces your default launcher with a special BW launcher; I'm thinking that its just a skinned Touchwiz launcher.

Spot on! Post has been updated! Seems like my list is practically complete I may do some more tweaking here and there, but that is the vast majority of it. Thanks for the great info!
Never mind. I found the S7 clock apk and it works fine.
Umm...I accidentally uninstalled the stock clock app Could someone possibly upload that apk?

I don't know if its worth mentioning in your first post, but the ANT HAL services all have to do with basically fitness wearables. If you use any that aren't BT and remove the ANT+ packages I imagine they will stop functioning.
How do you actually go about removing thsese items?
What are the steps for debloating?
Thanks!
Personally I like some of the Samsung apps & features otherwise I would use a non-Samsung ROM like Resurrection Remix.
I love SHealth and have a Gear VR. I'm surprised if you have a Note 4 and don't use SHealth with its cool heartrate, pulse ox, UV, stress level and other monitoring features. Also think the Samsung photo editor is actually one of the better ones.
Never used CarMode is but it seems like something useful.
Not sure what happens with any of these if you remove Samsung Account and Galaxy Apps I think they may be necessary at least for updates to these apps and for storing the SHealth data.

I used Titanium Backup. There are other apps out there as well, or you can even do it manually.

Yes that is true, and that is exactly what ANT+ does. 99% of people will never use it, I know I personally will not. I haven't yet posted what everything does, but I will. I have been busy and out of town

Again, you may use it, but that's a niche. I would never use any of those features. Note 4 is way too big to work out with, nor would I want to. I have never touched the Photo Editor. Car Mode does nothing practical other than neuter phone functionality when driving. Proceed with caution, and don't delete anything you use.
Putting this here in hopes of helping other J7 perx users pull the most from their battery . Thanks to Ashyx we have root on our device!! Wich makes this possible. Recovery atm is still being worked on so bootloops are no fun, figured id help everyone out, took quite the number of bootloops and several hours to come up with rebooting after every single uninstall to pin point certain apks, hopefully it is useful.
First make a backup with titanium backup!!
(The list does not rob the os of many features, but if theres something here you dont want taken out then simply look over it or restore it)
68-70 apks removed with titanium backup, lets get goin.

any news my friend about more apps that can be uninstalled?
Note of advice while debloating Stock Oreo ROM for SM-J727P
All the listed apps in here just apply fine except you have to keep in place the native Email and Message apps because if you uninstall any of those the Camera app stop working properly right away https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77722457&postcount=29

I have an Oreo debloat script in my Spacesung thread. Everything without a # sign in front of it in my script is safe to remove. Additionally, it's also safe to remove Samsung experience, the theme store, and Touchwiz launcher, if you have another launcher to replace it. You can remove google videos as well, I just forgot about it. The native Samsung video player will kick in from the gallery if you do. I prefer it myself.
For those who still rock with this warrior phone.
As of this writing and latest ROM version J727PVPU7BTH1 do not uninstall the included Chrome web browser apk as it would prevent you from signing in to the Play Store account.
