listen to the ringtones until you find it?

*sigh* I just knew someone would say that *sigh*
(mock glares at elliwigy)
Tried that already can't figure out which ringtone was the default one, so I figured hey, what's the best place I could find out? Why not the forum for the device dedicated to the Verizon S5!
So come on peeps: before you changed your ringtone on your Verizon S5 what was the default ringtone called?
Bonus points for anyone that can also tell me where I put my external hard drive cable, I can't find it WITHOUT replying "Where did you last have/see it?" :silly:

It would be VZW Airwaves on a stock VZW S5. Check your junk drawer for the hard drive cable. If it's not there check the back of your computer..lol.

Thank you Misterxtc for the ringtone info! 100 points for Gryffndoor! Alas the cable still is missing so -50 points. It's OK though you're still beating Slytherin! :good:

lol glad you found it.. i personally remove the stock sounds from my rom and put a few smaller sized ringtones from L... i consider stock ringtones bloat lol

thanks KenKiller for the reply,
I have searched the free app market for such a software but could not find, do you know if it is available as a paid app?
ahhh I missss that auto-vibrate so much !!!!!
I loved it on my magic. no need to hold the phone on our ears until they pick up
i tried to search for it, but in the end found many more threads where people asked for this function to be removed from many other phones.
Guess it's hard to please the whole world.
Place the phone.apk from this thread onto your SD card and use APKInstaller to install it. It should overwrite your stock phone.apk and will provide you the feature set you desire.
However, I don't know if this has been attempted on a SGS before - so be ready to restore your stock ROM if it doesn't work...

Waiting for a brave soul to try this.
I'm pretty sure the Phone app that comes with SGS is quite unique. After installing launcherpro the default phone button wouldn't even work until I replaced it.

Is there any news about this issue ?
uhhhh, sounds fun, let me book mark this and try it when i have spare time to mess around with my phone
For some reason the setting for this is in Settings > Sound and Display, Vibrate for Incoming Calls which is by default unticked. I thought I saw another somewhere else, going to poke around a bit more.
Edit: Damn, can't find it. I swear I saw options for vibrating at the start and/or end and or during calls, maybe I'm getting confused with my Magic though?
I really miss that feature from my old phone. The nearest app I can find is this http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-cn-cwd-callvibrate-BApt.aspx

Can't change sms notification tone

Even after a factory reset my phone is not allowing me to change the sms notification tone. It always plays the 'alpha' tone. I have the main notification setting set to 'gamma' and the notification setting under messages set to 'gamma' as well. Am I missing something?
OMG, I was starting to feel like I was alone on this one, as I've had this problem since day one and nobody has said anything abt it. I'm on my second phone and still having the same problem. The notification tone for sms just doesn't change from alpha. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.
This is my very first android phone BTW (coming from a BB8900) and I absolutely love it. I feel like I've invested too much time on this phone to exchange it and start all over again, so I'm just putting up with it. Plus its a $10 restocking fee every time.

I actually have kind of the same issue, but with a twist. I can change the sound except for one contact. With this contact it plays a song from my sd card. I've looked everywhere and can't figure out where the heck its defined.
Its not enough for me to return it and I'm hoping loading a new rom and it will fix it.
How goofy.

Yes, I have the same problem. What's odd is that I do remember that gamma would play for a few messages earlier on. But, now it's all alpha.
Another very odd oddity which I think is kind of odd is that for some odd reason, calls get the vibrate treatment, but not always. I have vibrate for incoming calls unchecked, but yet the thing vibrates on calls at times. Odd.
Mines doing the same thing! It really bothers me, but its big the alpha tone. I was thinking a new ROM would fix it as well. Hope it does!

i recently got my mytouch 4g and i also cant' change my sms tone, idk maybe we're missing something but has anyone found out how we can change it.
Well, I took my phone to a T-Mobile store and had a rep check it out. He couldn't get the sms notification tone to change either and offered to exchange it for another phone. Guess what...the new phone does the same thing. I'm just going to deal with it for now and hope someone finds a fix for it.
I solved my issue.
On my sd card I had folders from my Nexus One that included music. Somehow it was picking this song. I moved the folder to the root level of the sd card and now it plays the correct notification sound.
For those keeping score at home. I had a folder named "music" in the sdcard/media/audio folder along with two folders named "ringtones" and "notifications".

No problems here, but I just wish we could pick the default Froyo notification tone. None of the tones included with the MT4G sound very good (at least to me).
SOLVED. There seems to be a bug when selecting the notification ringtone in Messages. When 'default ringtone' is selected as the ringtone in Messages, alpha is always used, despite having set the default notification in Settings -> Sound -> Notification sound to something other than 'alpha'.
So, Messages seems to ignore the default notification ringtone setting. To counter that, simply select the ringtone you want in Messages manually, that is, don't rely on the 'default ringtone' setting.
I'm glad you solved it, but I have had 2 different notification sounds set from the get go, on in the default, and one in the messaging app. neither of them are set on Alpha, but it always plays Alpha anyways.
I just deleted everything media off of my SDcard, rebooted, now just waiting for a text lol

Are you sure? If you have Google Voice, you can just send a text to your T-Mobile number to test.
heyy! That was a good idea! I sent a text to my phone using my computer. and BING. it worked with a different sound. I don't know what exactly is causing this problem, but after I took off the folder that Ringdroid created with all my custom alarm/text/ringtones, the phone changed the tone. weird.
EDIT: well the tone changed, yes, but its not using the tone that I set through the messaging app its self. Its using the default notification instead selected in the settings instead. -.-
I just realized the phone uses default tones when the sd card its mounted to my pc. D'oh.
After I unplugged the usb cable, presto, back to the sounds I selected. I wonder if I can copy my custom sounds to the phones filesystem and not have to worry about this?

I use Ringo Lite to choose my ringtones and text notification tones for each of my contacts. Works great and it's free

Most likely. Can't you copy them to the system ringtones directory?
I have this same problem. It only plays alpha. My default notification is epsilon in settings, and in the message-settings it is epsilon also :/
I haven't fixed the problem yet. But another simple way around it is by using chomp sms or handcent. I dont like using replacement apps =l
EDIT: or sms pop up, which is what I'm using right meow

This is the WRONG answer. Tested it and your solutions fails. Manually doesn't change anything the true solution is to delete the folder that your third party app made on the SD card. To test just take out the SD card from phone and you'll see how all the ringtones work perfectly as stated by Mr_Skot above.
TRUE SOLUTION: REMOVE SD CARD TO TEST, DELETE SOUND FOLDERS FROM SD CARD AS PER MR_SKOT that's the true solution THANK YOU! this was driving me INSANE!

Text messaging is losing the custom ringtone I set

Hey y'all,
As the title says, I have set a custom MP3 as a notification tone to receive when I get text messages, but, for some reason, this gets lost every-so-often. The MP3 file is just one second long (MGS alert tone, if anyone is interested) and on previous phones has been the text alert of choice.
However, I can't see a pattern here, but every few days or so I will get a text that does not have a tone, then in settings it tells me I have an 'Unknown Ringtone' and I have to reset it again. I have used file commander to set the tone.
Any ideas?
Cheers
For me, it was the fact that my ringtones were on the sd card. Once I moved them to the internal, it stopped. (Or rather, it hasnt happened to it again since)

Thanks, I will give that a try now. I do save my ringtones on the SD card for when I change phone, so could well be that!

Well, good news! That seems to have done the trick... a week later and I still have a text tone
Yay and stuff

How can I tie the ringtone and notification sound together?

I recall this option on my rooted S3 (6.0 ROMs) in settings, so raising/lowering ringtone volume would be for both ringtone and notification. Any way to do this on S7 Edge (stock)? I have no intention of rooting, if that's the only way that's fine at least I'll know. Thanks!
Anyone

I want this too but unfortunately they haven't implemented that feature in the stock os. I have dug around the menus to make sure, definitely not in there. I think the only way would be to root but then you'll have to find a rom that has it unless there is a root application that can change that particular setting.
It is annoying but I don't think it's worth rooting over. I have a rule of five to justify rooting. So if there's five things that really annoy me about a phone rom which I can change through rooting then I do it but I haven't had any major issues with the stock rom yet.
Wish I could've been more help.

Where are the alarm tones stored? I miss my s5!

I got a Pixel about a month ago but I miss these forums and my s5!!!
I'm wondering if someone can guide me to the location of where the alarm tones are store on the s5 so that I can pull some off and move them to my pixel. I have root access but can't seem to find them. I'm specifically looking for the "Chime" tone but I may pull some others also.
Thank you!!

I ended up finding them earlier and you're exactly right! Already have them uploaded and available as a zip download. Thanks!
