i have a problem.i rooted my s5 g900f using cf auto root..now whenever i delete an app e.g lucky patcher.the app is deleted but it leaves behind its folder in device storage..and my storage is filled with deleted apps folder.what to do..
Delete the folders. They are leftover data files.
lmao, was this really a question thread worthy? common sense should of taken over. The app is gone, what do I do with files I dont need? cmon man....
Yea.......lol
Well brothers the question is not what to do with the files. The qs is why are they even there in the first place..i dont get these leftovers on unrooted ph..only when i root my ph this problem occurs. Its kinda annoying to manually delete the files not to mention the one in Android data folders..
I can't answer that, I haven't used an unrooted phone for more than 20 minutes in the last 5 years. My guess is that they are hidden when not rooted. Files and data for apps need to be placed somewhere. Next time be more specific in your OP.
If you don't want to remove these files individually, install an app like sd maid and run it's system cleaner function.....It should pick up on the obsolete files automatically and delete them all in one go.

Lately I've been getting alerts that my phine is low on space. I delete any unused apps but pretty soon ill have to delete ones I use. Is there a way to be able to download as many apps as I want or delete any of the stick apps ill never use like facebbok, twitter etc.....or does anyone know if any of his other roms allow for more space?

Search for 'move to SD'.
Search the Market for App 2 SD
App to sd opened up about 25% more memory. Thanks guys
You can also try Darktremor a2sd script. It should allow you to move not only apps that can be moved to SD card but every apps along with the dolvik cache and user data files.
I haven't tried it on my HD2 yet and I know its still in beta, so I can't guarantee you whether it will work or not. But at least it worth a try. If u wanna try it do a nandroid backup first, just in case it mess something...

Thanks, i wish there was a way to delete unused stock apps. For example...i dont use facebook or twitter so y have it. That would free up room too.....i'll ride with app2sd for now til something else pops up later.

You can delete unused stock apps by purchasing an app called 'Root Explorer' from the market (or install any root-enabled file explorer really, i just like root explorer the best lol) and delete the .apk file of whatever app you don't want from /system/app directory of your phone. If your rom loads the system to ram memory, you also will have to delete the .apk from /system/ram/app directory or it will re-appear

I got root explore and did the following. clicked on root explorer then went into sysytem then app and deleted the facebook and twitter apk. They still appear in my apps though. Is there something elseim supposed to do?
Still no instructions on how to delete stock apps via root explorer? I found this on the thread to my rom but dont know how to install it. I got it on my desktop but now what? Can anyone help?
If you wish to gain an additional 27MB for apps in /data/ you can install the my new partition layout MAX[Build.v1.1.7]. This is NOT required and you can use any of my other partition layouts with build v1.1.7. However if MAX[v1.1.7] partition layout is used with older builds your Phone will not boot. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Hello fellow S4 owners. Quick question, since this phone is a tad bit different from my Evo Design. I noticed on the S3 and S4 that most files are set by default to save to the phone's memory. I've rooted my S4 and backed up my data with Clockworkmod and now I can't find where it's saving these backups to lol! Just bought the phone 2 days ago and out of 16GB, I only have 1GB of free space left and want to transfer them to my SD.
Even when I go to Astro/Root Explorer, still can't find them on the phone or SD card, yet when I choose the "restore" option through my recovery, it knows where they are and displays them. Thanks in advance!
Well me I like using solid explore from the play store you have a trail .there you should be able to file any folder hit settings go to file and check hiden file then restart app you should see any folder thats hide if it hide it self . But I do believe it didnt and you just might need to check with anither file manger . And I havent rooted it yet I usually wait about two weeks to root my phone only cause I want to see what my phone could do with out root .
I will tonight if you havent found it byvthen let me know I'll more then will to help .

just an FYI, the only thing I've been able to do as far as freeing up space is delete the backups from the phone's memory. there was an option to delete in recovery which is pretty nifty. now all of my phone's memory is cleared and I backed up my ROM again to the SD.

ok then, make sure you are on teh latest one and it will save to the proper internal sdcard location. otherwise it will go to /data/media or if your microsd is formatted to fat32 it can go there

Navigating through my root tree, I´ve stumbled at so many bloatware files I just want to delete to save some storage space (16GB version here) but I´m a little afraid of. They are on the /System/App folder and for every .apk there´s a .odex file, so I would like to delete them both. Is it safe? Is there any verification process at boot of these files? Some of them look like really system apps that I´ll never touch, but others are for other phone carries in my country, social networks I´ve never heard before etc.
There´s another folder called /System/Apps/Bootup that I would love to delete files from, there´s a lot of LG crapware in there that I think are loaded at boot but I have the same fear of bootloops...
Any solution to my urge to free some memory?
Hi,
Delete some apps in /system/app not gonna free up your "sd card" storage... You always will have the same free amunt of memory available on your 16 Gb...
It's normal to have an .odex file under eachs system apps, your rom is odexed (search on Google if you don't know what is it).
You can delete some system apps but be careful at what apps you delete, make a backup first.
Some system apps are alright to delete along with the .odex ones too. There's a list in the general section I believe that lists off apps that can be deleted with no issue.
Problem is though unless you plan to store stuff in your system partition, deleting apps doesn't really increase your usable storage.

Re,
Yes there is a (brief) list here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456974&highlight=list or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521066.
Like SupaSwag said when you delete an app, delete the .odex file too. If you don't know what you are doing I recommend you to leave the system apps as there are to avoid any kind of issues. At best you'll gain a little free RAM and maybe a little battery life without some apps runing/connecting to the network in background but in any case you will not gain more usable storage. At worst some function will not work at all, Force Closes, bootloop, etc...
In any case backup first (backup in recovery if something goes wrong and you encounter a bootloop) or at least a backup with an app like Titanium Backup (and make an uptade.zip in Titanium).
And what do you think of the apps in the bootup folder?
And then, how van I free some space for my mp3s? Coming from a S3 with a 64gb microSD card.

Re,
It's some LG apps, the name of the apps say all: TaskManager, FileManager, etc... Nothing very important it's LG stuff but it depends of you... I deleted all the apps in the /system/apps/bootup because I don't need them with my use, but you?
I think the best is to freeze those apps with Titanium Backup, use your phone as "normal" for a few days and if you don't have any issues or if you realize that you don't need them, then delete them...
Another solution is to rename the apps you don't want with the .bak extension, in case you need an app you can rename it by removing the .bak extension, reboot and the app is here
I don't need to do back ups I said. I'm not gonna mess around that much I said...
So to spare you the details, I accidentally deleted my Contacts and Contacts storage apks on my phone. Bad times are being had. I was looking into android data recovery programs, but I can't seem to get the programs to recognize my phone. I'm about to just revert to OG stock and start from scratch. Will this get me these apps back? Is there another option? Any advice you guys could give me would be great. Sorry for being such a Newb :-\
Hi,
Yes if you return to stock you will have all your system apps...
What is exactly the name of the apps you deleted?
In case I'm right (I see only three) , see in attachment... Extract the three apk's, with a file explorer and move them to /system/app then set the correct permissions like the other apps here and reboot...
I'm in need of updating certain apps to my phone but can't because of insufficient storage. How can I and what can I delete to create this much needed space without deleting my important things?
Try Clean Master.
You should post your questions in Q&A section btw.

Clear Cache files, Temporary files .
go to
/sdcard/DCIM
On DCIM turn on hidden items.
Now delete .tumbnails its more than 1GB file & its no uses.
Do you mean go to settings and the storage and click on cache and empty?

No, download ES FILE MANAGER from playstore and turn on hidden items the delete .tumbnails lacated at DCIM folder .
SCREEN SHOTS
But that's the thing. I can't download anything else because of insufficient storage. That's what I'm trying to clear up so I can download my updates at least.
OK. I downloaded it. Thought I wasn't going to be able to though. But, those thumbnails are pics that I want. Will I erase those too? What exactly is a thumbnail or what am I really erasing?

I was deleted many times , and i can't find important it.
OK.
Thanks for y'all's help thus far and I was able to download some updates for my apps. Is there anything else I can do to create more space right now without buying anything?

Clean cache with CCleaner or Clean Master, it will free up a few hundred MBs, you can do it regularly (twice a week or something)
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app
So, instead of downloading another app to clean, can es cleaner can do it since I already have it?
