Hi there,
I've had my Nexus 4 since android 4.2, and I've updated it all the way to 4.4.4 without any severe problems. However after upgrading to lollipop 5.0, I've been experiencing major app crashing. This app crashing is described as the app just randomly just closing itself without any warning. For YouTube once I'm playing a video the app seems like it randomly crashes, redraws the screen and pauses the video, once the play button is touched the video has to rebuffered. The launcher will also frequently have to redraw itself when returned back to it. Now I'm very well aware of the memory leaks found in lollipop, and thus I thought I would downgrade back to 4.4.4 until it is fixed. However the app crashing continues to occur in the same fashion (app randomly closes, launcher has to redraw etc). I've tried custom kit kat/lollipop roms, flashing system images (even all the way back to 4.4) and custom kernels but to no avail. The apps continue to crash no matter what I try.
I'm not sure if logcat extreme would be able to pick up on why the app is crashing, but I did record the log when the certain app crashes (in this case using the app stabilitytest v2.7 cpu+GPU stability test, instead of the app crashing to the launcher, it'd stop the stress test and return to the menu of the app). The first log is when the test crashes before it even gets a chance to begin (usually it takes around 3 mins to crash), 2nd log crashes in a few seconds around 01:55:52. The third takes about a minute to crash at around 2:02:42. The fourth involved me using Chrome for a bit, opening some big webpages, then going back to the launcher (which had to redraw) then opening clash of clans, which crashes in a few seconds (at which point I stop the log, so the crash should be towards the end of the log). I can submit more if needed. Keep in mind that this did not happen when I was on kit kat originally, this only occurred after I upgraded to lollipop. All the logs were taken on 4.4.4. Thanks for any help.

Not a big deal here, but i've been noticing my phones stuttering or freezing for a few seconds. This normally happens on the start up for an app. or when exiting out. I wouldn't be considered, but this is happening quite often. Other times it will freeze will be when i'm simply scrolling through the marketplace.
its freezes during some games too. sometimes in ilomilo it will freeze for several seconds right as ilo and milo are reunited.
another similar issue is that freshly installed apps (especially while i'm downloading other apps) will very often crash on startup.
I'm really just asking to see if this is a common issue.
Thanks, you guys rock
"another similar issue is that freshly installed apps (especially while i'm downloading other apps) will very often crash on startup." -- this happens on my phone too
This can probably be attributed to bugs. WP7 is still at version 1.0 so I wouldn't expect all of the kinks to be worked out.
Are you using a microSD card? I've only had minor hangs in games, typically when I get an achievement.
Okay, this is getting ridiculous and im getting pissed. My N10 has been working without a hitch (and without a camera flash too) for the past 6 or 7 months since i got it but one thing that is happening now is getting very annoying is it just exits out of apps when the app is trying to load something...not exiting when the app itself is loading, but when the app is busy loading another task. Man im getting mad...so for example im on facebook the interface loads fine but when i start browsing pictures and an image is taking a few seconds to load and BAM, the program closes, another example i have the AOSP browser opened and im browsing the web, I type in a web address it starts to load, and BAM, closes, playing candy crush, it plays fine and then i try to ask for help from facebook and once it starts loading my friends and it does it again.i could go on and on. its happening on game apps, google apps its pissing me the heck off and it just started about a month ago. I have tried several roms thinking it was a memory leak somewhere or something for that matter and no luck. Ive tried trinity and KT kernels thinking the stock kernel was the culprit and still no dice. Ive even gone as far as to wipe out the whole device, everything to the fullest system format and reinstall a new stock image via wugs toolkit...still happening. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and is there a fix for this? Is anyone going through this crap too? The Dev forums have been quite lately but im sure this tablet still has very active users who can help because this is getting old. BTW I am running Purity latest rom with Franco kernel r12 just in case you need to know
Does this happen after you watch videos? For me, that's the only time..apparently the surface flinger eats up the RAM and hardly 20-30MB is left for other apps. So I guess the system starts force closing the apps. I don't think we have a permanent fix for this yet. However, the workaround I have applied is I disabled Chrome which is another RAM eater and since then this random force closing and even the random restarts problem seems to have been alleviated!
Another simpler option is to restart the tab whenever you feel it is starting to operate with a lag. Takes hardly 30 seconds And hope for Google to release the fix to the surface flinger issue with 4.3!

Hey guys I've been having a major problem with most apps and games on N& running P.A.C. This problem plagued my device when I was running PA as well. The main issue rests with apps closing by itself after a few minutes,as if the device had run out of memory even on a fresh boot. For example I would be in the middle of note taking on Evernote and few minutes in it would just close. Same goes for YouTube and ALL games. Funny, Lightning Browser seems to be the only one that stays in memory. I'm running it on stock kernel Android as well so tracing the root cause has been difficult.
Any advice would be great since I'm in the end of my ropes!

Start by flashing stock and see if it still does it. If not, try a different rom. If it does it on stock....then you may have screen issues...like phantom touches of your home button?? Or something.
Try whatever the nexus 7's version of a log cat is and see what it says when it happens.

Hi,
I'm running the 27082014 cm nighlty build on my i9505 and encounter following problem.
When working normaly the phone starts to slow down and act weird.
Scrolling in apps is lagging, yt stops playing and loading videos and video players are playing the last second or so in a loop.
It's like the phone has put the last method it called in a loop.
When opening the multi-tasking window the phone app is listed even though I didn't use it. I can't open it, it just returns to the home screen.
The phone app is shown black. It is difficult to even enter the multi-tasking window because it is leaving it immediatly.
I have the problem since a while.
In general I am just installing the new rom without a full wipe.
But even after a full wipe the problem was there. I don't know if it would be there before restoring my apps with TB.
I feel like some app is causing it but I don't have any suspicious apps installed.
I thought I ask here if someone knows a possible solution before I put the effort in a new rom and intensive testing.
Thank you

Hi guys,
Has anyone noticed heavy lag and freezing when using the phone. I don't have a lot of apps installed and i have disabled most apps that i don't use and the phone is still giving me issues.
Any advice is appreciated. [emoji4]
I switched from RAZR MAXX HD and this phone is a space rocket in comparison to my old Droid. Have you tried factory restore? Then if it lags - I would try to return it to Moto.
Check CPU utilization. Maybe some app hangs on. I've noticed that noozy (music player) lags like hell when album is over and player remains in notification bar.

I have the same problem, I tried to removing as much as possible automatic start calling but often when I uncheck the receiver this puts me "failed" in Rom Toolbox, I have tried Xposed Auto Boot module, but I do not feel that it works.
But for me, I have a lot of app instaled and my UI is very modified (Nova Launcher, Gravity Box, various Widget), so I know why he lag, but I still find it overheating lot and that's what most do slow.
Hi, I am having same issue. My configs was same as you, @Trinytix, but I had uninstalled all of them because lag issues. And now I continue to have same lag issues. When I use the standard cam for five minutes it become freezy and lag and sometimes I lose some photos. All the time it is burning. Just stops to burn when I leave it without work about 30 minutes. I think the problem is the snapdragon 810 but in other foruns some say that the problems with this processor was fixed.
I've been having similar issues, I got really into theming (using nova prime) the last couple of months and at the end of January the phone started to really lag hard. A couple weeks ago I stopped being able to open any apps other than the phone and google's messenger. I tried to factory reset from settings and could not (device gets stuck un the power down sequence), so I went the recovery mode route. reinstalled a fraction of my apps, put back a much stripped down version of my theme, and things were mostly ok, if a little laggy. However, the phone insisted that there was no SD card (internal or external) despite there being a 64GB card, which would sometimes show up when viewed in settings, some apps (podcast addict) were able to access the internal memory, but others couldn't (cameras, sms, photos, music). Yesterday the keyboard ceased to launch for more than a split second at a time, and would not take any input (you would not believe how infuriating this is unless you've experienced it first hand). In an attempt to regain some functionality I started uninstalling everything that I don't consider vitally important (bus app, podcasts, messenger) couldn't get through more than 1 or 2 at a time because multiple windows would stack telling me processes like "motorola" "android" and "media" had stopped. I did succeed in stripping away all the automation apps and theming apps (tasker, nova, icon packs, etc). I can't even place a phone call on the first try.
Oh and to add insult to injury I have to darned green lines about 0.5cm wide now.
Looks like hw problem or system got corrupted. Try to re-flash whole system but if is hw...
