Did I brick it? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to remove the knox thing and now it won't go on beyond the Samsung Galaxy S5 custom screen. I have wiped, formated, ect... I have booted into the recovery mode (not safestrap because it does not boot that far. I have tried loading new NI2's NK2's, different kernals and nothing. When trying to load a new rom or kernel, I keep getting a red warnings that the footer is wrong and signature verification failed. Not sure where to go from here. I have gone through the forums and it's all running together now. HELP
Under Android system recovery it has the number KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANI2
I successfully loaded G900V_FirmwareOnly_NI2.tar.md5 with odin and then tried loading optimalrom 12.6 because it worked in the past, but I still get the failed message and the boot stops at the galaxy boot screen.
OK, loaded everything with Odin:
G900V_FirmwareOnly_NI2.tar.md5
G900V_ModemOnly_NI2.tar.md5
ALL_VZW_G900VVRU1ANI2_G900VVZW1ANI2_2525521_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
Now I have my phone back. Now I need to figure out if Knox is back and I need to try to do this again

amazing how difficult people make things.. stock recovery will NOT flash custom roms.. if you are on fresh ni2 just odin the ncg kernal in odin, root, install SS and then odin ni2 kernal back.. now with ss installed, download the ROM you want and flash rom.zip in ss and the kernal for it if necessary..
Every custom rom on here is already knox free. Id recommend not trying to remove knox yourself again or else youll screw it up again from the sounds of it.. leave it to the devs to remove it lol.
On a side note, a brick is a phone that doesnt boot at all.. meaning it sits on a black screen and NOTHING at all boots. If you can get into recovery or dl mode then you most likely do not have a hard brick

The issue I have been having is the /dev/uinput. I thought it was because of knox, but now I see it's more than that and nobody has made a work around yet. I may be mistaken, but I think I don't have a chance with the uinput.

Youre doing too much.. supersu disables knox and uninstaling anything knox related is all you can do.. messing around with stuff you dont know about you WILL end up bricking your phone

Tulsadiver and gr8wing you guys are life savers! Thanks so much! I "ODINed" the firmware only, and then the modem only. after the phone downloaded each, it did not get past boot either time, but I was calm and hopeful. I odined the multi cert file and although it took a lot longer than I thought it would, it worked to perfection and my phone is fully functional and back to where it was two days ago.
I had NI2 rooted, then accidentally did the NK2 OTA update, which lost root. I finally got around to rerooting and decided to get rooted lollipop. I now have changed course and will sit happily with rooted NK2 kitkat.
Thanks!

Flashed MH8 firmware and now I'm in trouble

So I downloaded the latest UK firmware (MH8) from Sammobile and flashed using Odin, all went well and Odin passed and phone rebooted.
However now it just sits on Samsung logo FOREVER! I have reflashed firmware 3 times (every time it passes in Odin but still wont boot up)
I tried to reflash older firmware but that fails in Odin on bootloader section.
So I thought, all good I'll just flash Philz and restore my backup but now philz cant unmount System and I can't restore anything or even wipe system.
I'm pretty stuck it seems.
Does anyone have any ideas to help please
Flash mh8 in odin. Then boot into the stock recovery and do a factory reset.
I tried that 3 times but just tried it again and for some reason the 4th time it worked!!!
Still cant restore my old back up in Philz recovery for some reason.
Keeps failing on mounting system. Damn.
looks like I'm stuck on a stock ROM for the time being

Yep, that's the theory at the moment but if you go here - https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/5ggu7naWtaW
you should be able to re-root the phone.. Not sure if I'd try to flash a new rom just yet but at least you should get back root...
All reports are you can't flash an older version through ODIN because of the new bootloader...
Thanks again Chainfire...

Yeah at least we can root it now.
Still keeping my fingers crossed that someone will find a way to unlock the System partition.
I wish I'd never updated now, Samsung should of warned us that if we do this we pretty much lock down our phone

Bootloop on hyperdrive rom, please help

I need help. lol. my Samsung note 3 is stuck in bootloop. I posted this in the thread for the hyperdrive rom because its what I was trying to flash.
i wiped and flashed in the stock slot. and now im stuck in the bootloop problem. it says recovery booting in the upper left of the screen and just keeps rebooting. I tried going in to odin and reloading the "n900v kk firmware" and nothing. anyone know a fix for this. is there something I can download to flash to fix this. I know I will have to use odin, just not sure what.

Hi I'm kinda new to the community and Android, but I'll try to help. I've been having issues trying to use safestrap to install my custom roms. I know that 3.72 had issues with the extra slots. That was supposed to be fixed in 3.75. In short I haven't reached a loop but have had to flash to stock several times with Odin. I had to remove my battery to get the phone in "power off" mode. From there, I booted to download for odin (assuming you can get it to boot to download-volume down/home/power buttons to get there).
Once I got there, I just made sure I had the firmware version I wanted to go back to, plugged it into odin and bam! Back to stock to start over.

I can boot in to the download mode. has no problem. even tried flashing the n900v_kk_firmware.tar.md5 tar,
ALL_N900VVRUBMJE_N900VVZWMJE_2106277_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
and even tried the N900VVRUCNC4_N900VVZWCNC4_N900VVRUCNC4_HOME.tar.md5
and when I do the MJE one it says invalid. am I flashing the wrong file is there something else I should be using. when I get in to manual mode after it boots in to manual recovery mode it says im on NC4. it says in the upper left corner the following:
Android stem recovery <3e>
KOT49H.N900VVRUCNC
volume up/down to move highlight;
power button to select.
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
is there a way to flash safestrap or CWM in odin.

You're running the same build I have, been having similar issues. I used Odin no completely repartition and wipe the phone. I used N900VVRUCNC4_N900VVZWCNC4_N900VVRUCNC4_HOME.tar.md5 and the HLTE.pit file (for this build). In Odin You put the pit and md5 files in (.pit file in the PIT slot and md5 in the AP slot on Odin 3.09) This took me back to the KK NC4 build, granted, I lost alot of data but I didn't use a Nandroid backup either. This got me back to a functional device but i'm still having issues getting ANY custom roms to work. I did flash to NC2 kernel since then and still no luck. Let me know if that helps. I can get the files I used if you can't find them, but most everything came from xda.
PS. you can find some firmwares with recovery and other things added. I avoided these just to make sure I could get back to stock. I use Towelroot, BusyBox, SuperSU, and Safestrap 3.75 b04

i done a search on the stock firmware you mentioned and after about 2 dozen websites and and trying about 15 flashes I finally got it to work. this has been one heck of a day. I finally got it to work. I am in the process of trying to get safestrap and stuff on it now. I already used towelroot to rot it. what version of safestrap do you recommend. I was told 3.72 was for KK. and 3.75 was for the Samsung galaxy S5.

SM-G900A (ATT) Wont unroot

I have tried everything I can find on the internet. Various Odin versions, and a bunch of stock roms from sammobile and other websites. I have been trying to follow everything to the dot, but I keep getting the same error: FAIL (AUTH) seconds after I press start. I have turned on USB debugging on my phone and I honestly don't know what do to. I just want to unroot and be done with this already. Please, someone help!
have you tried supersu to unroot? lol
No I haven't and I haven't even heard of that program yet, let me try and see. I'll post back the results.
Everything ran smoothly but I still have the "Custom" with the unlocked lock icon on my phone's start up. Also, my phone still can't update its software. It boots like it's going to but the installation is stalled at 25% until it just reboots and gives me a message that the update was interrupted. Please help!
what rom are you on? maybe the rom your on removed the update apks from the rom? the custom lock will be there until you manage to flash a full stock odin tar successfuly..
theres no reason the odin tar isnt unrooting the device if youre using the full odin tar.. this should put original rom/kernel/modem and wipe device completely

See, I think that's the problem too. I had this phone rooted once before and I intalled a rom (that i forgot the name of) and then i installed the supposedly official ROM for SM-G900A and I think that's where it got messed up. What should I do now?

[Q] GoldenEye Rom Lollipop Rom won't boot

I really need some help guys! So frustrated!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 i337 using SafeStrap 3.75. I followed the guide PERFECTLY just as it says, I have flashed all the files I need to in Odin and still no boot. My baseband is a NB1 and I have followed the guide many many times to get it to the new OC3. Can anyone please help me out? This is the third time I have tried flashing the rom and then flashing the kernel along with the stock partitions and no boot. I know it takes longer than normal for the first boot but I left my phone sit for over an hour with no luck. I can't access SafeStrap after I flash the OC3 also to even get my phone back to working somewhat. The first initial boot after flashing everything it shows the [SafeStrap : Disabled] and then i click continue and it goes black then says the same thing and it does that about 5 times or so then just a black screen for over an hour. I'm having no luck

Odin back any of the Kitkat kernels so you can get in to Safestrap, and make sure the stock partition file you're using is the correct .tar format. If you have a zip, that needs to be flashed in Safestrap along with the ROM and modules. Then you can ODIN the kernel and start again. If it is the correct .tar format, then make sure you let the phone flash the kernel, reboot, and wait for ODIN to say pass.

I've followed everything to the tee. I've re-read the directions millions of times but it's not booting. I have absolutely no idea why on this earth it won't. I've charged my phone to a 100% so it's not my battery.. I've used ODIN and flashed all the needed files until the green light comes on and says "passed". SafeStrap flashes on and off but then right after its done doing that.. NOTHING, no Samsung Boot Logo or noises just a stupid black screen. My phone feels hot after I leave it sit for awhile but never comes on from there. I feel like I'm the only one having this problem, everyone seems to be getting it to work successfully but I'm doing EVERYTHING just as should. I've flashed many many Roms before and I'm completely stumped on this one.

safestrap....unable to mount /system...potential brick??

have rooted s5 on 4.4.4 nk2. Have been trying to install custom roms via safestrap. Apparently i am missing a step. I wipe data, try to install twi5ted Lollipop on custom rom slot....blank screen for over 30 min after reboot, phone gets real hot, take battery out. Try to install on stock rom slot, reboot then get stuck in boot loop and keeps booting into system recovery. I then saw through my hours of searching to format instead of wipe....so i format then try to install, get stuck again, take battery out, get back to safestrap dash now when i try to wipe/format/or even restore my backup it says unable to mount system. When i click reboot system it says no OS installed. After reboot, my custom slot gets erased.
I was about to try an odin flash back to stock but some how was able to get my phone back to a system restore. Why can i not get anything installed? Do i have to have odin to do a custom rom install?????? i know every rom is different but wtf. I have seen multiple videos and threads of people flashing zip via safestrap and rebooting into new rom without flashing kernals via odin or safestrap after rom install.
Also...my phone will not let me download zip files (ex. cm12.1) says unable to create download folder....how close to F'in my phone up am i? I have successfully rooted all phones in the past...s5 is giving me hell!
I just tried installing rom after format, then flash nk2 kernel from odin, still gives boot loop....ive tried everything i have found..never this much problem with custom rom..
When you try to install twisted it needs lollipop firmware which is flashed on odin, and based on your statement it says you're on NK2, a kitkat firmware. Try flashing a stock ncg tar and rerouting, downloading apps, etc. on the phone to see if that works. Also, I noticed you mentioned a cm 12.1 zip not downloading which, while unrelated to your current problem, will cause a bootloop when flashed due to the locked bootloader on the S5, so it isn't a smart idea to even attempt an install.

thanks, i will try fresh from start ncg. so you have to be on the current kernel that you are flashing a rom for, whether its CM, Twi5ted, Alliance...etc i need to be on rooted 5.0 kernel then flash rom via safestrap?
i was having problems downloading from internet on phone, not downloading rom if thats what you thought i meant. I just tried installing zip for CM 12 via safestrap and got same issue. Phone reboots, goes to black screen and eventually heats up like crazy. .... I just noticed, after my restore ...again... it says safestrap disabled in red on the boot screen, why is that? it says installed and tried reinstalling.
FIXED
So i flashed ncg from odin on the messed up phone and got messed up worse. Ended up getting stuck on first boot image of samsung android s5 boot screen. Finally found original stock firmare file and used odin to complete install stock os and got rid of root. Now back to normal... luckily i figured it out my self! thanks to the 100's who viewed and didnt help and thanks to mrjiggywiggy for giving me some input to help out!
