I have a US Cellular Galaxy S5 SM-G900R4 on NG3. Rooted last night with W0lfDroid's method, but I can't seem to find a wifi tether configuration for multiple apps that works. Tried Treve first to no avail, tried the method where you disable the tether detection, but that didn't work either. Also tried WiFi Tether Router from play store and I couldn't get it to broadcast on any apps. The disable the detection method started to broadcast a signal and I was able to connect, but after 45 seconds roughly, I got detected. Any info I've found is outdated or of no use.

I just got my A7 a few days ago. I did the elocity firmware, the latest dexter mod and the adhoc fix.
1. I cannot get the vpn to work. I am trying to get it to connect to my Cisco ASA at work and no matter if I try ip or dns name, it fails immediately. The connection never leaves the A7.
2. I rooted my Motorola Droid and put Barnacle on it. My laptop can wifi tether to the adhoc network off the phone with no problems. My A7 can see the adhoc, tries to obtain ip address over and over and just doesn't connect. It doesn't matter if I use proper wep or non matching wep key, same results. This is frustrating.
I have re wiped, re firmwared, re dextered several times. Out of ideas. Going on vacation i a few weeks and need to be able to tether.
Help!!!!
hi I had to do this to my samsung intercept running barnacle to make it connect. mabey it will help you.
http://androidforums.com/samsung-intercept-sprint/194068-barnacle-wont-run.html
I use the legacy version of barnacle. I think its available on authors site if not on market
scroll down page a little to see instructions for the fix in the link
Try installing googles wifi tether and run it without wep or wpa and see if you can connect that way.If you can connect then enable the Access control and set a ringtone to let you know when there is a connection, that way you can set it up to where you are the only one that can use it and know if there are any other connections besides you. Go to the link below to get the latest download and be sure to read up on it.This is what I use all the time with 0 problems. If you have any problems with it pm me and I will try to help you with it as much as I can.

Update
I did as suggested with both Barnacle and Google Wifi Tethering with wep turned off. And it works. Why is that? If I create a wep key in either Barnacle as ascii or hex, it doesn't work whether I use ascii or hex equivalent on the eLocity. With the Wifi Tethering app, it only has ascii option and still no luck. Until a new Dexter comes out that may fix this problem (at least for me), I will probably just use Barnacle with max 3 connections and by default new clients gets no nat. I will manually allow nat from the phone to control access.
What sucks is I cannot use my buddy's jail broken iphone for wifi tethering either. My velocity has the same problem passing passwords to ad-hoc networks.
As far as Ive read and been told Android will not connect with wep but what you said you were going to do will work just fine, that's basically what I do,but when Im going to be in one place for a while I will use Google's wired usb connection (link below) to connect to my laptop and then just share its internet connection with other laptops, phones, game systems etc.Either way I think its a good idea to have both the wireless and wired installed just in case and there free so what the hell.
I hope some of this will help you out. Good luck and have a good vacation.

Question: Does anyone know how to enable ad hoc connectivity. Ive tried two apps off the market on my rooted tab, but the only thing that happens is i loose wifi and it cant scan networks at all. Im trying to use my gs2 teather hot spot on my tab 7.7 wifi only model. Any suggestions anyone?
p.s. both my tablet and phone are rooted.
You don't need any apps for that. Turn on the hot spot feature on your SGS2, then use Wi-Fi setting on your tab to connect to it like any other Wi-Fi connection.
The thing is i dont pay for the hot spot feature on my phone. So i rooted my phone to get it for free but it gives out ad hoc wifi. My macbook can find the signal, but for some reason galaxy tablets dont.
Get the app wifi adhoc enabler.
I had to do this for my Galaxy Note. My Razr on the stock VZW hotspot would send out an infrastructure wifi signal but after rooting and rom'ing it, it now only sends out adhoc signals.
You can try also to edit the wpa_supplicant file but on my Note the wifi adhoc enabler app worked for me.
i tried that but it didnt work. After i restarted the wifi it couldnt detect anything and it would read error. Unless im doing something wrong. Thanks for answering
maybe reboot and try again. I'll play around with trying to find adhoc signals when mine comes in on Wednesday.
Wifi adhoc enabler app doesn't work
Anyone has found a solution?
Bump, I really need the adhoc function to work this with my car's AEM x-wifi Air/Fuel wideband... Anyone can chime in?
Thanks.
Sorry. Wrong thread.
Okay, so i recently rooted my Intercept so i could remove the crapware. I also tried to tether it so i could use my nook tablet everywhere. I tried https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
this one. and i tried barnacle. I realize now that one problem was that these apps make ad-hoc nets, and some devices don't see them. I didn't get barnacle working, and the other one worked the first time then got errors every time i tried to start it after. Now i've uninstalled those apps and i can't use my wi-fi normally. The check mark is unchecked in the settings and it says Error below it. I click it on and it doesn't work. Help? Any hints? Did i do something stupid?
Mason
Are you using a rooted ROM?
I've had luck on the Intercept using both Wireless Tether for Root Users and Widgetsoid and adding the widget to the screen with the Wifi Tether Icon.
I've always just done the settings changing the SSID to AndroidAP with open/no security. Using these settings I've had no trouble tethering devices from my TF101 to Windows and Ubuntu laptops.
If you are still having issues, drop me a line and I'll walk you through.
Cheers!
It seems like none of the apps out there (WiFi Tether, FoxFi and alike) work. Some seem to be able to start but no connection can be made.
Had anyone successfully ran SG4 in hotspot mode?

Not sure exactly what your asking for but: Hotspot Hack
I was looking for the app based solution. Thanks for the link, but that seems to be a bit risky.
My understanding is that JB has blocked FoxFi and it's kin. FoxFi's website has a chart to show which phones and OS levels it runs on. I did not expect it to run on my S4 and it does not. But PDANet+ (who has partnered with FoxFi now) does work for tethering. I was forced to use it for several hours yesterday when my cable was down and it worked great. But it's not wireless. and I did not try it via bluetooth, only wired.
Hey all,
So I have UDP with Verizon. Got my phone the other day and activated it before I inserted my VZW sim card. Tethering worked fine until today (after Droid-Life posted about it), and now it will work for a few minutes and then I lose internet connectivity on both the phone and hotspot.
To get around this with my previous Moto X 2013, I used the wifi tethering apk from here: https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ and then only allow one device at a time to connect. This app doesn't seem to work with Android L (or I can't get the settings right).
Is there anything else I can try? Or is there any way to limit devices with the stock tethering?
(edit)
Other info:
Phone is unlocked.
TWRP installed (phone tethered fine after TWRP installed)
Phone is rooted (same as above)
I installed Xposed today, started having issues. Uninstalled Xposed, still have tethering issue.
(edit2)
Wife's phone, a rooted VZW Samsung GS4 is also being flaky with wifi tethering. I'm guessing that it isn't my device tonight...

I have a similar issue but not quite the same. I am also on UDP vzw and the behavior that I get is that the hotspot connection to the Internet is barely usable at all. Some pages load, sometimes but often they timeout. But with all of this the connectivity on the handset itself is unaffected. I'm going to try a usb tether on my Mac with the HoRNDIS package soon to see how the speeds compare. Maybe it's just the wifi tether and sub will be okay?
There have been some that are specifically noticing DNS issues. Maybe that's where the root of the problem is.

Ever since I found out that VZW allows you to add the tethering package to your UDP line and not mess anything up, I bought it and have experienced zero issues. Before that, every few days I would have some bad DNS issues where google would work, but nothing else would. Now my phone is my ISP and I've had no issues.
My (current) network setup: phone (wifi tether) -> bridge computer (internet sharing) -> router (Asus AC66U) -> wired/wireless network.
I haven't tried the bridge computer as an actual network bridge as that caused some flakiness before... but that was when I wasn't paying for tethering. Eventually I'd like to use my phone as a 4g modem that is directly hooked up to my router.
