I previously posted about my 'How To Make A 2D Game' series here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKK4kDogg-8), which received very positive feedback, and was featured on the Portal, and I've now taken in some suggestions and began writing up an updated, text version of the series, and I'm looking to get some more feedback from XDA again. Currently, I have a sample available to download, and would like your thoughts, and recommendations for price (planning to sell on Amazon, iBooks and Play Books hopefully once it's done), and such. Content will cover everything in the YouTube Series, and a hell of a lot more (feel free to make suggestions on that). Here is a link to the sample:

Hi folks,
I've posted about this in the Hero forum some time back, but I'm rocking the Desire now and I hope that you might have use for it as well. I've tried to gather the top free apps Android has to offer, with descriptions, links back to the developers' websites, QR codes and hands-on videos. It's currently more than a 100 apps divided in 11 categories, and I always try to keep the list up-to-date.
What do you guys think of it? Any ideas on how I can improve the guide? Did I miss to include any great apps?
Here's the URL if you want to check it out:

nice
Nice list, i really liked Buzz Deck and issuu
Have made some major updates to the top free Android apps guide, and it now includes the best widgets and live wallpapers as well. There are of course some good apps missing, but it should be pretty complete and up-to-date.
Running isn't the only form of working out.
JEFit is a fantastic weight lifting application.
VPlayer is a great video player for playing non-native video formats and is vastly superior to rockplayer.
Colornote is a good notes application.
Movies is fantastic if you're into cinema.
thnx 4 ur effort=)
found a few nice apps, also saw some I already had.
thanks
Great idea, thanks. I honestly read these and find them helpful from time to time, which says a lot since I ignore the vast majority of typical low quality internet publications in general.
Nru is another AR app similar to Layar.

Reported due to linking to a video of a warez app, to glorify it. Any website/app/software etc. that provides people to get paid apps for free is prohibited in this site.

Thanks found some nice apps, very useful links.
Hey Guys,
I fell in love with my new Desire HD recently so I've just started building a hobby website and it will have a few pages or resources for the HTC Desire HD.
It's far from finished or optimized but I'm happy to host any related files or ROMS if it helps any of You or the Community out..
Please let me know what you think it should include. In time I hope it will have many Desire HD resources and links and quite a few Android things too.
Any criticism is welcome - I'm more after function as opposed to fashion. Cheers.
Feel free to PM me with advice. I'm sure XDA doesn't need a thread about my personal site, Desire HD related or not.
Grant
Stunds like a good idea. Put up some guides on rooting and roms. Gonna root my dhd now in the holidays when I get some spare time over

If you have a disassembly guide i would be very happy.

Nice website with good user friendly design
Would like to more apps in the "andorid" section of the site such as Springpad or Tunein Radio.
When were at it with audio apps I would recommend subsonic. If you want to stream your music library
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
if you want more apps inbox me as i have in excess of 5 Gb worth to be added on
depends if you have enough space on the server for lots of them
and because im nice and have ALOT of free time on my hands at the moment, if you need and resources and building let me know and im sure i can provide you with what your looking for (such as guides or articles about things for the DHD, )
Thanks for the ideas and feedback so far guys.
Defectus: Yes. I'll put up some recommended Guides on Rooting and Roms. This will help me learn too. I'll check out Subsonic as well. Feel free to suggest any other apps you are passionate about, if and when.
malte41: If I see a Disassembly Guide - I'll certainly add it - if the maker doesn't mind. (or I'll link to it). Cheers.
karthics4: Thanks. I'll certainly be adding more apps in the Android section. (I'm trying to get hold of some beta programs too so I can maybe do a review or two.) Keep the app ideas coming if you want. I'll try them out too.
fkofilee: Thanks. Server space or bandwidth shouldn't be a problem. (Unlimited) I'm not sure if I will host other people's apps. I'm happy to, if it's easier for the end user/visitor, but I want to also stay true to the Android Market so people can always get the latest app version. Having said that - I'll keep an eye on updates and attempt to keep everything up to date. Thanks for your offer. I'm certainly open to suggestions and links to resources and helpful info.
Feel free to email me at any time from the site or through XDA or even this thread etc.
Also, thanks to the ROM makers whom quite a few have given me permission to host their roms.
I'm hoping to change this username to Grant Barker (which I've registered) so please don't be offended if my name changes in this thread or somewhere else. It depends on the mood of the Gods. I mean the Mods.
Anyway, thanks for the advice. Please feel free to keep it coming. I don't have as much free time as I'd like - so please be patient and I'll get things done as soon as I can. (This includes dead links, no links, image optimizations, broken CSS etc.) Your feedback inspires me more, so I appreciate it.
Cheers.
Grant

It's was very hard and almost impossible if you don't have at least a small marketing budget. I am making this thread to help developers learn.
I want to stress that all my marketing was free. I didn't use paid advertisement.
Deciding what I am going to make
1) I decided to make a platform game that had very simple controls, anyone can understand how to play it without instructions.
2) I decided to use some cartoon images that, almost all I made myself. There is no some "Complicated graphics".
3) I made the game easy enough so that a gamer can play it without instructions.
Before Launch
1) After I finished the game I didn't release it to the google play store , that would equal a fail. I opened a small community in Google+ and collected some people that want to hear when I release the game to production.
2) I posted on facebook groups screenshots about my game that going to be published. I did it in 5-6 groups and I spend on it 3 days.
3) I went to some games forums and also a create a post and trying to make people waiting for this game to be published.
Launch
1) Launched my app on Google Play , posted on facebook and on Google+ that its finally arrived. And here comes the numbers:
After one week my app got more than 10,000 installs!
And now my game has 46,000 downloads at Google Play!
And I am still fighting to get more downloads. Hopefully I can reach higher but for last couple of days the downloads just decreasing Any questions ask away.

I don't think you got the downloads for the reason you think. I am unsure what you did, but almost 800 ratings is good.
congrats on your successful launch that is a lot of downloads for that type of game.

So, If can I ask, why do you think all the downloads come from?
And thanks for replaying
Pretty interesting read, thanks!
Do you have a facebook page or something where people can follow you as a developer? I'm not sure if I should do that for the future.
4 days ago I published my first Android App. I prepared my release fairly well, I've read a lot about marketing apps.
- I've posted my app on forums where I'm active, inclusive a niche forum for the app.
- I've posted it on my personal facebook and tumblr.
- I've made a pretty good YouTube video for it.
- I've send it to over 30 review sites.
The reviews I've received are all very good, but I'm still struggling to get downloads. I'm still at 50-100 and I've done the best promoting I could.
Any tips?

I have a community page in Google+ at the link:

You are more than welcome to join my community
1) A bunch of facebook groups are here where you can post some screenshots of your app:
> Innovative APP Users & Developers for iPhone, iPad, Blackberry & Android (Huge group, more than 9k people are in this group)
Publish your app in these groups and you will get downloads for sure.
I very recommend using this Forum, post there some screenshots of your app with description and I'm sure you will receive more downloads:
http://androidfreegamesapps.forumotion.com/
Can you show statistics of sources of installation? Just to compare how many people comes from reviews, Facebook, YouTube and other places.

100 download per day is pretty good!
Look at my first comment. Publish your game in facebook groups and forums and try to get people knowing about your game, If they like it they will share it with their friends and you will get more downloads.
BTW I saw your game. Its looks very nice Keep updating this game.
This is cool!
hi , cool game you have there
thanks for sharing your experience

Juste to be more helpful what's the list of forum where you have annonce jour game,
Thinks
From my own experience I can say, that it's very hard to find the right formula. There are so many variables and sometimes one method will work for specific app, sometimes not. But I agree that social factor has the best influence in downloads. The more people see, hear about your app - the more likely they will tell their friends and etc.
Thanks for the information really helpful, I will open a community in G+ right now for my current project.
Good luck with your platformer
Hi guys!
Do you know any web sites who write real free reviews about android apps? Not payed reviews, not review exchange, but just honest review of my app, its good and bad sides.
I tried submitting my app - play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.triladroid.gps to all websites, posted in this topic - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2800333
And from most of them I got an e-mail with suggestions to pay money to get positive review and featuring on their websites. From now on, I just starting to think that it is almost impossible for a developer to get a free honest review on some website.
Maybe some of you know websites who are interested in writing real review for free? Maybe your app was even reviewed on some website?
I will appreciate if you share your experience with me.

We have contacts of editors of over 440 websites that post reviews of Android apps, half of them are international, you can try using our database for promoting your app (we will improve the announcement and send it via email and contact forms using your name and email as a sender, and we will send you a zip with screenshots of contact forms filled with your data). If you are interested, google for iSpreadNews (that's the name of our service).

The question was about free real reviews. What you are proposing is to make a payment for sending proposals to review one's app and then make other payments for those reviews. Maybe your service is really great and saves a lot of time, but one still have to make a great investment.
Unfortunately, i don't know of any site which will make a free real review. There are lots of sites which will post your review for free, but they lack audience who will read it. Others make only paid reviews.
