I have a Nexus 4 on KitKat 4.4.4 stock with Gravity Box.
This problem has always occurred once in a while (maybe once every two weeks), recently it's been happening a lot more often.
Sometimes I am expecting text messages and they don't come in until 2 hours up to 2 days after they are sent by other people to me. This is a big problem as sometimes there are important texts that are time sensitive.
I called Virgin Mobile and asked tech support, and after checking the system, they verified that there were texts that the carrier received, tried to send to my phone, but got bounced from my phone so they were stored with the carrier until my phone would receive again.
I've tried factory reset, used another Nexus 4 for a while (restored from backup), used a different ROM, and tried everything. Any idea?

hi my phone has been good but for the whole of today i havent been able to receive any text messages. i can send them fine and email seems to be working fine as well. When I got home I put my sim into my old phone and after a little while i received the 8 messages.
What could be up? do i need to send the phone back?
when i put the sim back in my phone is was working again.
When it wasnt working I had already tried turing phone on and off.
Also unrelated but I have had some weird problems with my phone not working with bluetooth properly. It will pair easily and work fine but then (again today) my paired devices were not connecting and I had to delete the pairing and add them again for it to work.
Just bumping once to see if anyone else has had this problem and has any suggestions.

i have had the same problem with not receiving texts on my galaxy s. though mine was just from one number. after the usual helpful advice of switching off and on removing sim card etc it still wasnt working. putting the sim in a new phone worked and the only way to get the samsung working again was to reset everything to factory. This lasted about a week and then it's happened again this morning.
Ive checked my blocked contacts and its empty and vodafone/samsung aren't being especially helpful.
It would appear a factory reset is the only thing that sort of works.
hope this helps
Same problem here, i just received 20 messages from up to 3 days ago.
Stock Rom, Rooted
Could be a provider issue tho...
Anybody still having this problem. Mine just started this a week ago. Only hard reset fixes it.
Hmm, I've been having similar issues, with texts not being received and all calls being forwarded straight to voicemail. A day later I get a barrage of texts and voicemails.
This has happened about 2 or 3 times now
A friend of mine had this problem, or something like it (she didn't really describe it in detail). In any case, she was told (by Optus) to connect the sim card to another phone (turn it on), and then put it back on the SGS.
I've just had this problem with the Galaxy S (stock Eclair) on Three(UK). Stopped getting text messages yesterday but could still send messages, emails, browse the web etc.
Bit the bullet this morning and factory reset. Two minutes later I received about twenty text messages.
Seems like this may be a problem with the Galaxy S. If it happens again the phone is going back for something else.
Maybe Froyo will sort it out once Three have worked out how to get it distributed.
Bump.
I don't receive certain messages from my girlfriend when she texts me, i do receive others though, it's highly annoying. I'm on giffgaff (O2) at the moment and running Ficeto's JVH rom 2.3.3
Any ideas why this is happening?
i have experienced this too. . . fixed it by switchin network mode to gsm instead of auto. . .
maybe my area has weak wcdma signal. . .

I am guessing your old phone isn't a Samsung ? I was having the same problem and I figured it out. Samsung phones don't receive texts when a full number is put in. +1-555-555-5555. This is the number format Facebook uses. So if the person texts you using your Facebook linked number you'll never get it. Bravo Samsung! Bravo.
I've got some serious issues with my Nexus 4, I've found posts with similar problems but not exactly what I have. I'm at a loss what to do next so any advice would be much appreciated.
I bought a N4 around March this year, direct from Google, and connected it to TPG Mobile here in Australia which uses the Optus network.
It was fine until about the end of May or beginning of June where it started losing signal regularly. First thing I noticed is it would start dropping calls and displaying "No network available", the triangular status bar at the top would go blank (completely black, not grey) for about 30 seconds, then it would return to normal signal and I could make calls again. However it would do this every few minutes, whether I was on a call or not, and each time it would last roughly 30 seconds and then return to normal.
Around the same time I started to receive SMS on either a delay, or they'd arrive on-time, but then keep sending multiple times for about the next hour.
I rang Google, they got me to go through recovery mode, then it worked fine, for about 24 hours, before it started again. They sent me a new device, which did the same thing within hours of activation, so I requested a 3rd device. At the same time I thought it might be the sim card, so I got a new one of those too.
My 3rd device and new sim card worked perfectly for about 3 days then the same problem started. Factory resets etc seem to fix the problem for either minutes or hours, but never permanently.
Then last week I noticed further weird symptoms, I started getting the usual sms to say someone had called and left a voicemail, however my phone never showed any sign of a call (visual, audio or missed call in the call log). I confirmed with several people who tried calling me and they confirmed the phone rang on their end before going to VM. I tried it myself from a landline and it randomly rings or doesn't ring on my end, however I also noticed when I hung up on the landline without answering my Nexus 4, it continued to ring indefinitely, ie. it hadn't registered the caller hung up.
My provider assures me there isn't an issue in my area, my wife uses the same provider (with an iphone) and has not had these issues. I can't swap sim cards with her though as she has a full-size sim. I tried another sim with my phone for a few hours and it worked fine, however my phone with my sim will sometimes go a whole day without issues so it wasn't long enough to truly test it.
I've deleted all apps that might somehow affect it and the hasn't helped either.
Basically I'd like to know is this likely to be a phone issue, and I pursue the issue with Google, or some sort of network/sim issue and I pursue it with my provider?
I want to start off by saying I have 1 or 2 group messages that go on throughout the whole day, every day. When I first got the Verizon S7 edge, I had zero issues for the first three days. All of the sudden, at least once a day, there is an issue receiving and sending group messages. I can't link it to anything specific besides it happening most when the group chat is most active. 11 people in the chat are sending multiple messages at a time and then I'll send a message at the same time and i realize mine is not sending and then I stop receiving everyone else's messages. If I go to the individual participants chat in my texting app, there will be a bunch of messages that are downloading. This has happened to me in the past with other phones, but its usually linked to having bad service at a certain time and simply turning mobile data on and off will fix the issue. I cant link it to anything this time, it happens randomly. It doesn't matter where I am, if I have 1 bar or 4 bars, if wifi is on/off, bluetooth is on/off. The messages eventually start coming in, but I dont know what causes that to happen either. I could restart the phone 4 times before it helps. The only thing I can say is it happens most often when the group chat is most active. I'll also mention that this wasn't an issue in the first 3-5 days of using the phone. Below are the steps I've already taken to try and resolve the issue.
1. Wifi on/off
2. Mobile data on/off
3. Restarting the phone
4. Tried 4 different texting apps - Hangouts, google messenger, samsung messenger, verizon messenger
5. Factory reset
6. New SIM card
7. Swapped the phone out for a brand new one. Issue started again with the new one after 3-5 days.
8. Enabled every app that was disabled
9. Activated/deactivated advanced calling
10. Called Verizon tech support - We replicated the issue and thought it was due to "delete old messages" being turned on in the settings. Tech support thought the phone was trying to delete old messages at the same time I was receiving a bunch of texts and everything would get stuck. Everything seemed fine after changing that, but it happened again a few hours later.
11. I've run out of options
I had the Note 5 before this and had zero issues with that phone and I've never had an Iphone.
Please help

Good day. I've been reading this forum probably the first month it went live. I never registered because as it says in the rules "Always read lots post little". I have always read other peoples problems and there's always a solution that worked for me. If I wasn't desperate I wouldn't have registered. Please believe I have exhausted as many solutions until this was my last resort. (This is my 6th Android device)
8/24/17 around noon I stopped receiving text messages from almost everyone. I've owned the 6P almost two years now. Never had any problem that I have read about here.
1. I am on a family plan, two other on the same plan (both android) can send and receive text messages from me.
2. My recipients can all receive my text messages, but I am not getting theirs (a mix of android and IPhones. Both clerks at the AT&T store couldn't text me they had a Nexus 5X and an HTC)
3. I have been on the phone with At&t, They have tried sending me messages from the network, and 2 separate different numbers. Not working
4. I have taken my friends IPhone's and tried texting myself. I turned off their IMessage. I turned on "send as sms". Not working
5. LTE works as normal. I checked APN settings. It is the same "nextgenphone" as always (At&t customer service confirmed)
6. I've had flawless service on At&t for 10+ years
7. I did a full factory reset. Also still not working
8. I went to the At&t store and bought a new SIM card.
9. #3282# and other carrier star service requests also are not being sent to my phone.
10. Flashed the newest 8/5/17 Android 7.1.2, as well as flashed older ones (7.1.1)
I'm very sorry have to post this I'm desperate I need to text clients for work. So last ditch effort before I bite the bullet and get a newer phone.

No I don't have any of those things. I flashed a vanilla factory image directly from google after a complete wipe. I also tried pure nexus. I'm not sure what happened but this morning I suddenly got 200+ messages from the last few days. When I spoke to At&t two days ago they said they were doing something on the server end and I should wait five days. I have heard from some others that the IMEI needs to be re-registered sometimes. I hope this can help someone else. Thanks for the response. Keeping my fingers crossed.
