I'm replacing the screen/digitizer on my Nexus 4.
On the replacement, the screen works fine but the digitizer doesn't respond, while if I plug in my old (broken in half) digitizer, this works.
I notice the digitizer board looks slightly different, on my old one the ribbon says "LGINNOTEK Rev 1.0", while the new/replacement has "LGINNOTEK Rev 1.1"
While I suspect the replacement is simply defective, could it be the different version isn't compatible with my Nexus 4? (It's definitely a Nexus 4 screen/frame)

Hey, I'm having exactly the same problem. to test the new part i turned on the cellphone with the old LCD+Digitizer and with the cellphone on i changed to the new one and it worked fine. The problem is that when i reboot the cellphone the digitizer stop working again. I'm still trying to find what to do. if any one has any suggestion it would be great

Same here. I also changed my Nexus 4 lcd and digitizer doesn't work. After RAFP_87 post i did exactly the same and it's working until the first reboot. It would be great if there is a fix.
I'm another one having exactly the same issue. I can sometimes get the old cracked lcd/digitizer working... swap it out for the new one and everything works fine... until I reboot.

Question: Is everyone running 5.0 +? I wonder if it has to do with lollypop.... I'm going to try rolling back to 4.4 and see what happens.
EDIT: 4.4 had no effect, downgrading to 4.2.2 seems to have done the trick... 3 reboots and I still have touch... but what does it mean? Sigh... ****ty non OEM replacement hardware most likely...
Almost forgot about this thread, thought it was just me...
Didn't try swapping the touchscreen over while it was running. However I had already upgraded my phone to lollipop (one of the pre-official releases from the development forum). pixelpump did you try upgrading the phone to a newer android version afterwards?
Noticed as well as the slightly different version the circuit board for the digitizer looked very slightly different - could it be a non-OEM/unofficial/cheap knock off?
Thing is, I've sent it back to the seller but looks like Royal Mail have lost it (it's insured) :silly:
Since rolling back to 4.2.2. everything seems stable digitizer wise. Thankfully, as I'm not really in a position right now to upgrade. In any case, I did try upgrading to 4.3 (which is the the OTA update that pops up after running 4.2.2 for a bit.) and the digitizer stopped working. Seems this new batch of digitizer replacements has incompatibilities with the newer code. This was my 4th screen/digitizer replacement... the last 2 have had this issue, though the 3rd one's problems were intermittent... this last would just not continue working through a reboot. The latest hardware does look sketchy though, the digitizer chip reads "Synaptics" as it should but the ribbon cable reads "Snaptics"... lol, for whatever that's worth.
It sucks to be stuck at 4.2.2 but it's better than not having a phone at this point.
have you guys tried custom Roms?

Not really, just Cyanogen and a couple others... if I had the chops I could maybe cook out a rom with an older digitizer driver built in but that just seems like too work Besides, my daughter cracked the screen again already. It's impossible to guarantee Gorilla glass when ordering replacement parts I guess....

Well where did you buy it?? ebay?? was it guaranteed?? Warranty?? The digitizer could have went out on it already.. Mine was ordered online with insurance guarantee and warranty... lol.. It cost me $60 which is actually super cheap but was worth every bit!! The digitizer is what makes the lcd touch. That or you could have accidentally bent or kinked the ribbon slightly.. Its very touchy.. The screen turns on and everything?? Just no touch??
I got it from blackberry8100parts.com it was $45. Phone works fine just no touch. I checked the ribbon and everything looks good.

Thats strange.. It was for the wing right?? or herald?? I have mine and it works soooooooo perfect.. It takes even less to touch the screen for comands.. I dont understand why it would have gone out.. You are not overclocking your device are you??
They said it was for the wing but the back of the lcd doesn't match. I'm using stock rom right now.
Don't know what your problem might be, sorry - but don't assume just because the backs are different that it's the wrong screen.
I just replaced my wife's Wing's screen with one from one of my older units (whose mainboard died). The screens looked very different, even though they were both T-Mo branded Wings purchased at around the same time.

I'm not assuming its the wrong screen, just stating that the back is different. They guaranteed it will work and it did for a few hours.

Hello,
i cracked my HD2 screen (digitizer), i purchased new one, but the cracked one was working and i was not in a hurry to change it. After a minor drop, the LCD touch screen cracked under the cracked digitizer and now i have black screen...
Now also i have to purchase LCD screen, but i saw that there is ready to use screen+digitizer(and of course more expensive than screen and digitizer alone) .
My question is - what will be easier to change - ready to use digitizer + screen, screen and digitizer alone or there is no difference. I'm asking this, because I'm wondering should i sell the digitizer (if i can) and buy the ready to use screen+digitizer, or to purchase the screen and to use it with the already received digitizer.
If you can afford it you have to go with the all in one. Too much can go wrong during assembly and you should avoid it if you can.
yup, separating and installing them separately is a pain in the arse, its always better to do it in the one job if you can afford the initial high cost. My LCD panel needs replaced due to light bleeding, but I cant be arsed, the digitiser is likely to fail in the future anyway being an HD2 so ill wait and just do the two of them together.
OK, thank you.
I've watched 2 or 3 "how to change digitizer" videos. Is there a video for changing the lcd+digitizer or its the same as the digitizer change? I have to disassemble the whole phone to change the digitizer...

there is a vid somewhere, ill have a look later, but essentially yes. you need to remove the whole lot, the only difference between doing them both and doing them separately is that the two panels are stuck to each other, and its that process of separating or putting back together that's really tricky and people have ended up damaging one or the other trying it.
What about the difference in the EU and T-Mobile versions, like in the digitizer (soldering and insertion) Is there a difference too, if i take the whole "pack" (LCD + Digitizer) and what should i look for if there is a difference?

If you buy combo(LCD+digitizer) there's no problem to replace it to whatever version of HD2 you own: combo is interchangeable on both versions!
OK, Thank you!
I'm asking because i asked some buyers on ebay, and they told me "Sorry, my friend, but this is for T-mobile version" But on the pictures, they are all the same.
I had my EU hd2 digitizer changed too when it was broken, and when it was changed to a tmous replacement, they couldn't get the promixity sensor working.
Now I dunno if that's a defect from the screen or because it's a incompatility problem, but a further gsensor-working-in-wm6-but-not-in-android-problem in my other replacement mashup hd2 hybrid EUTMOUS frankenstein phone suggests that some parts may not be interchangeable.
You should just make sure that it's a EU digitizer so you won't run into further problems.

But on a already assembled combo pack (LCD + digitizer) how to know if the digitizer is EU version, beside the T-mobile logo.

I doubt it's a relationship between digitizer and g-sensor/proximity sensor...

Let me clarify that; my hd2 EU first had its digitizer+LCD replaced with a TMOUS version, and the proximity sensor stopped working,
then the the mobo was replaced by a tmous mobo in the same EU housing and the accelerometer and magnetometer does not work properly (accelerometer works in wm6.5 but not android), but the proximity sensor worked.
It's not just me having a hardware replacement problem, there's a significant amount of posts by other users about replacement parts not working properly. So everyone should be at least very cautious about using them because replacing with other parts may cause other problems.
my buddys HD2's touch screen suddenly stopped working.
he gave me the phone for $50.
i guess ima have to do lil work
I need some help with choosing the combo
Which one should i take and why on one the second item there are those big cable-like things.
N1 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-and-DIG...ccessories&hash=item43adebdc7d#ht_3076wt_1110
N2 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-lcd-Tou...ltDomain_0&hash=item3a67e44659#ht_2175wt_1344
Will i need to solder them together or they are already soldered (welded junction or whatever)
Thank you!
Anybody?

Both versions are OK, but I would choose the first one.
There's no need for soldering(vers. 2): it's more like a packaging thing in order to get it mounted on chassis.

I guess its because you/they lost the little glasses that connect the display and the sensor.
Its easy to loose them as they fall out after you take the screen from the housing.
I lost them a few seconds ago and think that i know what wont work when i reassemble
@topic
there is generally no problem removing display from touchscrren. just make it hot with a fan or oven ~80°C is okay. and with a flat knive or iron-wire go for the glue.
If you do this you need new glue-tape. Mostly you get this from china very cheap but takes a while.
If your screen is broken now i would recommend to take a combi pack as you have no glueing, no alignment problems and so on.
its not very hard but kills some time and nerves ;D
OK, so lets do a round up, before i make the purcahse, so I'm sure i will make the right choice.
I'm going to buy this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-and-DIG...ccessories&hash=item43adebdc7d#ht_3076wt_1110
because its already assembled and much easier to use and IT WILL FIX on my EU version of the phone (Not US T-Mobile)
Only YES or NO will be enough

The Eu-HD2 is soldered isnt it? This version, from the picture, is the pluged version....
Im not sure because if you change the display also the connector type could be irrelevant.
But if this is the screen from Tmous-HD2, i remember that it was a bit bigger? Is it just the housing or also the display?
=>
Dont buy before this is clear!
(i would open my hd2, look what connector type is inside and buy that one just to be sure...)
And some advise: Try to glue the flex cable from the touchscreen(the one that goes under the end call button reallly close to the display)
This could help to improve the life-span of the cable as its not flexed every time you push the button(try when you hold it in your hands by putting the buttons in the frame and push it, if it flexes the cable fix that!!!)
Otherwise the cable will break one day and the wires will disconnect=> typical problem of not responding touchscreen
My LG G2 (d802) started having dead screen touch in some small portion of the screen. I just installed Cloudy G3 Rom about a week ago and the problem started showing 4 days after installing the rom. Not sure if there is any connection.
Today i flashed Paranoid Android and i still see the dead touch screen problem is there.
Is it hardware issue? Or still is there any way to find out if its a software issue?
Any help appreciated

I think I read somewhere it's pretty common hardware defect.

Exactly what part needs to be replaced? The display or just the touch sensor?
My one started going crazy. Now it detects press automatically as soon as I turn on the screen. Had to turn off knock-on feature or it would keep turning off and then back on the display again and again.

I was ignoring all the posts about this issue when I browsed the forums, I thought I was safe since my G2 is more than 6 months old and also because some people mentioned it was related to some type of screen (there are two models) and I was on the "safe model", which apparently is not the case. So today I started to investigate the issue and some people end up replacing the whole screen (digitizer and LCD) which I think I'll do too.
Replacing just the touchscreen seems like the cheapest option since the part costs less than $20 bucks, but I honestly don't recommend taking that path since it's really hard to separate the LCD screen from the touchscreen.
So yeah, the whole screen assembly runs for like $70 plus bucks.
Better waste 50 bucks more then when you need to use the liquid and special devices to stick the digitizer to the lcd, it isn't for people who have never done it before. Its especially harder on newer smartphones then from 2010. Thats also the reason why the nexus 5 digitizer isnt sold seperately since replacing it would be much easier and you wouldnt risk your display when replacing the digitizer.
For that 70 bucks you maybe also have the tools included to open the phone and there are many videos which you should follow carefully to replace it well. I would rather pay 70 bucks then going to some repair shop or service center which replaces it for 130 bucks and above. @in_core If you have warranty use it since dead touch isnt your fault and as I read its common so LG have maybe screwed up it somewhere or the rom caused it :/ but i don't really think the g3 rom caused it since people even get that problem who are fully on stock without root.
Hi.
I have problem with my u8800. Digitizer was cracked so i replaced it with other one and it doesn't work, it works on old cracked one but on good one it doesn't. Both are synaptics. Can any one help me?
Make sure you purchase a genuine digitizer. Alternatively, you can take it to a professional, but I think they will take a lot more money.
Can you please show me which one you purchased? Also, which ROM are you using right now?
I didn't bought it, i took it from other u8800 i had which was working, but motherboard broke down, and it was lying in the drawer for about half year. Last week I bought another u8800 for parts with cracked digitizer and replaced it with mine, which was working when i last tried it, and it doesn't now. I tried aurora classic but i don't know if it has to do anything with software or it just broke down when laying in my drawer which is less probable.

It is most likely a software problem. Have you tried changing to a different ROM? Or maybe the original Huawei Firmware?
I tried stock rom, but it didn't worked either. I'll try some more after work.
Update: Changing ROM's doesn't make any difference.
I have a trusty old N900P on which the front glass has cracked and screen is no longer functional, but the unit appears to turn on and boot (i can connect to a pc and it's recognised).
Now I dont want to install an after market screen (the quality and touch is never the same) so was thinking about buying a new unit. I can get a n9005 delivered fairly quickly, but I was hoping I could transplant my old board into the new phone assembly and it would work? what do you think? From what I can see the everything (layout & connectors etc) looks identical internally.
Thanks
