Android 5.0.2 - Motorola Moto G Changelog (Unofficial)
This is a follow-up to the old KitKat thread. The purpose here is to identify any improvements, bugfixes or new issues introduced that are not mentioned in the official changelog. Contributions, corrections and observations welcome.
- Bug Fixed: Rotation bug where screen will rotate with only slightest movement, or no movement at all.
- Bug Fixed: WiFi scan fails if BT enabled.
- New Issue: Lack of straight forward 'Silent mode.'
- New Issue: 'Cast screen' added to the new quick settings menu, but still requires build.prop edit (root access) to work.
Someone claims that camera quality and focus have improved since kitkat... confirm?

Maybe placebo but, on lost101's 5.0.2 titan ROM, camera does seem better. And on 4.4.4 there was a bug where some photos had a two tone effect, not seen it once on 5.0.2.
Rotation bug isn't fixed in asian 5.0.2, it gets stuck in landscape mode while you hold it landscape sometimes.

Perhaps I shouldn't be basing this changelog on my experience of ID Crisis ROM. It could be that this issue in the Asia 'Soak Test' - will be fixed in the final OTA Update.
Bug on wifi scan failed when bluetooth is on seems to be fixed
Has the occasional earpiece distortion been fixed?
@gutzzz, can you explain a little more? The closest I have had to anything like that, is when the screen would turn off and kernel speed would reduce - as it was supposed to. This would cause a momentary distortion if audio was playing.

Sometimes my phone cannot scan or connect to wifi if there is a bluetooth device connected.
Happens with my g-shock bluetooth and polar bluetooth HRM. Both using Bluetooth LE v4.0.
Bugs still exist on 5.0.1 but seems to be fixed on 5.0.2 and now bluetooth feels more stable than before.
Thanks for that. I hadn't encountered that myself. I actually meant to @petertakov regarding earpiece distortion.
Cant wait for it!! Gonna be awesome! Especially the lockscreen

- New Issue: Lack of straight forward 'Silent mode.'
It's not a issue or a bug. It is just like they thought it should.
-Normal Mode with Vibrate (All Notifs)
-Vibrate (All Notifs)
-Priority (Those defined notifs)
-None (No Notifs/Complete Silence)

Silent Mode will be coming back in Android 5.1, according to Google.
Tapatalk @ 'Moto G XT1033 - Android 4.4.4'
I think - New Issue: Lack of straight forward 'Silent mode' - should stay on the list, since it appears enough people have a problem with the new system to warrant Google changing it in Android 5.1.
so many bugs, how come the GPE 5.01 has none of these? why face all these just for a few moto apps.

Sometimes during calls the voice through the earpiece is distorted. I have followed several discussions on this issue and most of them conclude that this is a software bug introduced with 4.4.4.

TBH I think it was better on KK, it actually won't correct focus if you change the plane you're aiming at until you thouch-drag the focus circle.

Hi all,
I have installed the 'hacked' version of Skype which allows video calling on the SGSII. However the problems also apply to the official one on the market. The problems I am having are namely:
1) In call volume is too low - I can barely hear the person on the other end of the line. I am apparently fine. When I switch to video mode, I can barely hear them on the external speaker. I have set the call volume to max which improved things a touch (via the main SGSII settings). Is there any way round this?
2) Proximity sensor does not appear to work. This is generally ok as the screen timeout eventually kicks in, however when I then need to go back into the app I have to get past the lockscreen. Is there any way to get the proximity sensor to work and thus when I need to access the app during or post call, I don't have to go through the lockscreen every time?
Thanks in advance.
Farvesh.
*Bump*
Don't like to normally do this but it has been almost a week and no response....
Does anyone have these issues or is it just me?
Sorry, but it works fine here.
I am pretty deaf and I could hear it fine via speaker.
And the proximity sensor worked well.
(using 2.0.0.47 hacked skype on VR2.0)
I have camera issues sometime (turn upside down). But not always.
I reverted back to the official but didn't notice any of your issues.
Not 100% sure if Skype was the cause but was cached in the background and battery depleted a lot quicker til i froze it with Titanium...
Would it not of been better to post your concerns over at the forum that is running the hacked program?
You'll get better results from there.

As I said in the first post the same applies to the normal version in the market. I guess it is only me then - that being said I am using LR 1.5. Proximity sensor definitely does not work (screen timeout eventually turns the screen off).
Sound is definitely low as well - I compare it to my wife's 3GS and there is a very clear difference. Have the same problem with Tango as well... It's either the rom or a setting somewhere. Thanks for your responses anyway - appreciate it.

Like I said you'll get better feedback from the forums dealing with the hacked skype version.
Go in there and post your issues along with rom details mobile to mobile or mobile to PC skype chats..
theos0o may ask for your skype log file... Hope this helps

I have been reading on this online trying to find a solution without any comprehensive solutions so would appreciate it if someone could please help me out....
While talking on the phone using my moto x style...the people on the other end say that they can barely listen to me....i have to literally shout to make them hear it...
do any of you face similar issues? am i doing something wrong?.
I am on stock btw and received the OTA MM update a week back
Please let me know what other details you need to identify and solve the problem
Ok so its not just me. It started as soon as I updated to MM. I did find somewhat of a work around. Usually if I take the phone away from my ear (so the display turns on) and then put it back, they can magically hear me again. If that doesn't work I toggle speakerphone mode on then off and it works.

Wow I will definitely try it out next time I face this issue... Am so relieved to see that I am not the only one with this issue... Is your problem intermittent too? Also anybody else facing the same issues?

I disabled Enhanced 4G LTE Mode and the problem immediately went away. After a few days, I tried my luck and turned it back on and haven't had a problem with other hearing people hearing me since. Good luck.
Unfortunately am still facing a lot of issues with the calls...my voice sounds muffled and extremely feeble to people and they arent able to hear me....
Am surprised nobody else is facing this issues...did i get a defective piece? Are there any other things I can try out....
extremely frustrated with it and not sure what to do...any help would be immensely helpful
bump...
I'm having the same issue on 2 devices. It happened on both OS's. I'm going to try turning off the enhanced 4g lte option. Maybe that doesn't play well with Verizon. One note I did make was the problem doesn't exist on speaker phone. I kinda thought it was the noise canceling mics being too functional.
Thanks please let me know how it goes and if you are able to find anything...I dont even have the 4g LTE option since I am using the phone in India...
Have tried disabling Ok Google voice activation which helped lot of OPO users but doesnt seem to work on MXPE
I've got the same issue on a phone I just got 3 days ago. Replacement should arrive today.
The problem... Low volume on the handset earpiece accompanied by very low level but constant background static noise. The background noise is low enough to only be audible in a quiet environment. Switch to speaker phone, Bluetooth, or wired headset and the problem is gone. The problem is only on the handset earpiece.

I see, different problem from mine. Audio for the other person on my calls is fine.
My replacement has arrived, but the problem persists. However prior to upgrading the new phone to Marshmallow, it was fine. Seems like a Marshmallow bug.
I started a new thread detailing the issue at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3277589.

Thanks a lot for your inputs though...issue is a bit different...
Same issue here ! immediately after MM OTA update (stock vanilla) people start complaining they cannot hear me well !
After sorting most of MM issues this is a major pain in the a**
Let Moto know about this as it makes the phone crippled.
How come there aren't any more complaints about this serious issue !
This is 100% MM related - People complain they can barely hear me on the other end of the line - I sound muffled, stuttered and basically bad to the point they cannot continue the conversation and demand I call them from a land line !
Forget all MM bugs, problems, etc (need I mention the Equalizer went AWOL) now this Smartphone which I highly praised and loved became a ...smart something - with no phone feature.
Help me let Moto support be aware of this issue.
Thanks
I have the same issue, the other person is barely able to hear me.
I'm in Italy and i noticed that this issue come when my phone is in GSM (2G), when i talk in 3G it's ok.
I also made a TEST that you can do, i tried to speak with headphones's microphone and the issue is gone, but when I unplug the headphones the issue came back immediatly (switching the screen on).
Does anyone know how to tell this issue to Motorola?
Everyone of us should send his request to Motorola, to show them this common issue.
Got the following advise from Motorola support on chat - it seems to help - please tell me if it work for you:
please go to settings > apps > all > Audio Effects app - Tap Force Stop - Clear Cache and Clear Data.
Also under settings > apps > all > go to Phone app - Tap Force Stop - Clear Cache and Clear Data.
Now please turn off the phone and when you turn it back on try making a call.

I did try all that per Motorola support. It made no difference. Then I tried a factory reset without reconnecting to my Google account. Also, no difference.
Note I am waiting on a second replacement phone. It should arrive on Wednesday.

None of the solutions seem to work for me either Did you guys actually try to finalize if this issue was only due to MM? Did you not face it on Lollipop? Am seriously lost for words on the issue as its such a basic need which is not being met...did the replacements help resolve it?

I only recently got the MXPE, and upgraded to Marshmallow immediately. My first call was under Marshmallow's control. It had the background noise and low volume level.
I got a replacement and tried it under Lollipop immediately. It did not have the background noise, but did have low volume. Upgraded it to Marshmallow and the noise returned. So, I would conclude that the noise is a Marshmallow induced issue.
However, I have a second replacement of the way. My thought is that perhaps the noise is related to the low volume issue, which is a hardware problem, and Marshmallow is just highlighting the weakness in some way that results in the noise.
As for the volume problem, this is the first phone I've ever had to use at maximum volume. Even then, it is just adequate. From what i have read on boards like XDA, this is not normal. That, in part, is why I have another replacement on the way.

There is bug in nougat, Under settings -> notifications, if turning off "sound and vibrations" for an app, the notification LED light does not report notifications.
Currently there is no way to have sound and vibrate turned off and use LED as notification. To use the LED notification, sound+vibrate+peek must be turned on. SUCKS. This was not an issue in 6.0.1
every update they make worse and worse also if they fix something they ruin something else
only in 3 last build tried to fix sound balance made worse(the upper speaker is much better so they down grade him for balance :\, update after that they ruin charging (at least for me i cant turn off charge optimization after last 6.0.1 update ..
Same problem is related also to Whatsapp, I have removed audio and vibration notification for groups chat, and set led to light blue, but light blue led never blink, it blink white for single chat but just because there is the audio and vibration notification activated for single chat.
Yes, seems to be affecting all applications, including WeChat, LINE and WhatsApp.

That's a shame: long awaited and buggy upgrades from Sony... Especially with LED notification which was a major reason why I chose Sony...
Check this post

Thx to the solution of Jilbert.. Download the silence.mp3
Put the file in system / media / audio / notifications & ringtones
This works for me
Fingerprint recognition
At least they have fixed the fingerprint recognition. Now it's as fast as iPhone and faster than Samsung
Hey guys. Curious little problem here. My 6 month old Nexus 6p doesn't want to work as a speakerphone using the stock app.... I've tried:
-Updating the app (to 4.0? from Playstore)
-Downgrading the app
-Downgrading from 7.1.1 to Pure Nexus 7.0 and 6.0 and Resurrection Remix 7.1 and stock 7.1.something
-Installing various versions of Gapps
-Disabling Phone 3.0
-Toggling on/off all permissions
Worth noting that the speakerphone works in Hangouts Dialer and Duo
Calls work fine when using Phone app as handset. Issue is only when speakerphone is toggled.
and Speakers work as normal in every other app!
HELP!
Also worth noting, maybe... when in a call Do Not Disturb icon pops up in the status bar but, upon pressing the speaker button, Do Not Disturb goes away.

You might want to go into sounds and make sure nothing is set up to trigger Do Not Disturb mode. If that is being triggered it could affect your speakers. Obviously also check all the slider levels for sound while you are there.

Yeah seeing nothing out of the ordinary. Doubt that would be consistent across all those different ROMs and apps too. Thanks anyway!
I just got this notification, not sure if I'm early or late to the game.
45.0.A.5.1
Gonna hold off on the update for a few days.
Its just june security upgrade, been rolling out for the last couple of days.

It's interesting cause sometimes it happens to me as well..... I make the call or answer the call and its in Loudspeaker mode even though it displays it's in normal earpice mode. Slightly annoying yet It might be an app conflicting with that. I noticed another same event in Xperia Z3 so I'll observe the behavior and see if it's an app issue.
@sokkheang It's third party related. Might be google play services . I'll look into it. If you find anything let me know. "Power Off" your phone by holding the power off option. It'll reboot in safe mode.... There, everything works fine....
My issue was with MacroDroid..... it was a silly automation left unchecked.
I too got this update yesterday. I have this feeling the Camera Distortion appeared after this update
Camera is fixed
