Hello all,
I want to buy several moto g 2014 phones for my company, but i have a problem. All contacts on phones will be updated by exchange sync and stock contact app have a contacts export function so user employed in our company can export and steal firm contacts. . Is any chance to prevent contacts export? Can stock contact app be modified in the way that export function be disabled or removed. If possible I will pay somebody to change contact app.
Many thanks in advance.
Not for nothing but what prevents someone from just writing contacts down to steal them...
We have a 40000 contacts, and every contacthave few phones, skype, address, so its very difficult for user to write down them all . Probably user will ne need mouths to do this. I just want to prevent automatic process as export.
Hi!
I'm a lawyer in Brazil and I think what you're looking for is to prevent a data steal by employes in your company, right? The way you're thinking actually doesn't prevent anything but you can make it hard to proceed in two ways. 1. You can distribute contacts by groups instead of giving access to 40nd at once to each coworker or 2. Add an activity monitoring app in each device. In this case you (have to) should inform your team by Contract. A local especialist lawer must give you better directions on how to do it. There's a lot technical ways to copy contacts in an smartphone, so the safe way is monitiring (logcat'ing) all the cellphone operations. Regards
This is not a solution for my problem. I need to prevent contacts to be stolen physically. So if I lock settings and package installer with pasword, encrypt phone storage than only way for user to steal contacts is with export fuinction. This is reason why I want to change contact app to remove export fuction. ZTE phones have a phone app without export function but i dont want to buy ZTE phones for firm. Please help.

I got your point but the problem on make it happen under Android plataform is the many ways you can share the contacts. For a simple example get the possibility of temporarily install another app or use some adb pull n push on it. To prevent any data to be shared is most likelly Impossible.
The only way I can imagine is by imposing legal restrictions and monitoring operations on cellphone and this can be done easily.
Hope you find a way to reach your goal.

Hello all. I think Microsoft needs to be punished for its lack of vision. I think its time we stepped away from the idea of activesync and treated our PocketPCs as actual PCs, not as surrogate devices that require specialist synicng. I use google as a central point to store email, calendar and contacts. With that i can get at my contacts anywhere and on any machine i have which supports CSV import. Clearly, Microsoft never even considered any kind of syncing with the exception of their exchange server. No good to me when i use a mac and two linux boxes.
Im wondering, does anyone have any thoughts at to how we can manage all the personal information we have? At one level something that managed to Diff CSV files would be acceptable. Since Google can import and export these, that migh work reasonably well. Of course, we'd probably need some kind of scripting langauage on our PocketPCs. Has anyone seen anything like that?
I was wondering about the same thing. It might work, to make a simple program, that can read the contacts database, and save them as vCard and/or CSV. Then on your normal PC you can use a similar program, that can manage this data...
well, not to defeind microsoft, but couldn't google have made some kind of activesync plugin to do this?, i mean, i couldn't agree more that the platform should have been more open, but microsoft couldn't possibly cover every third party PIM system out there. surely, google could have (and probably still could) create some kind of extension that would allow these pocket PCs to sync with their PIM platform. if anything, it would help promote their product and i for one would be more inclined to switch over.
as an example, yahoo calendar allows syncing with Palm and Outlook. it looks like it's up to google to choose whether they want to support us.
If MS allowed PPC users to sync with other services they would loose a lot of money as no one would buy exchange or outlook [afaik each cd included with ppc's have outlook 2002 so the oem pay for it naturally]. So it doesn't make good business sense to open up syncing. Anyway I hope you find your solution.
Hi All,
I'm fairly new to the Winmo scene having spent a lot of time using Palm. Back then I had little fear of my personal data falling into the wrong hands as I used many software solutions, most notably PDA Defense which not only locked and encrypted the Palm but also wiped it if fell into the wrong hands.
It's important for me that a thief can't access my data (calendar, emails, files on storage card etc.) - and a second goal would be to get the device back / know WHO took it. Even if this isn't the case for some of you; the majority of you may have spent shed-loads to get hold of this device (which I love by the way) and surely that alone makes it worth protecting your investment.
So, what I would like to know is what kind of security-strategy are you professional WM6 users following?
What do you do to maintain physical security (eg Ultimate Theft Alert) and what do you do for information security?
Lets ignore antivirus software for this thread - but I'd be grateful for not just what you use but also information about stability, performance and necessary changes in your workflow (like for backups, file recovery) etc.
Thanks in advance.

WIMP - Where is my phone
By sending a text message with a password the program picks it up and sends you its coordinates using the GPS. Also sends you the number of the new sim card if it is changed.
Then you can use Google Maps to find it. It conceals itself really good and it'll take a hard reset to uninstall it and i doubt that lots of thieves out there can do it.
Sounds good I'll take a look at that. Thanks.
However, I assume that's not the only security measure you take is ir?
How do you protect your data (emails, files etc)?
wow some of these suggestions sound better than what I have been doing - locking it in the gun cabinet.
I use WIMP in case the phone is lost/stolen.
For file encryption I use Spb Pocket Plus, which has a file encryption option - tap and hold gives the option to encrypt a file with password and erase the original. Tap and hold the encrypted file gives the option to decrypt. It doesn't encrypt Contacts or Calendar, only individual files.
I got Sprite Terminator for $10 extra when I got the latest Sprite Backup for my HD, it's not bad it does the GPS thing over SMS and you can remotely lock the phone etc.
Well, remotely locking the phone is fine, but it works only as long as the thief doesn't remove the SIM card (or simply turn off the radio). What I would really appreciate is a PIN request for opening certain files and/or applications (like work mail account).

I really liked Sprite Terminator after using a few of them. The only problem I had with all of them was their ability to get the GPS signal. I'm therefore looking for not so much being able to locate where they are, but just the ability to wipe data, lock phone, get the details of the new sim card, and the telephone number of the thief's friends.
microsoft exchange - remote system wipe.
I pay for Sherweb hosted exchange, but if you dont want to pay or have no need for it, just sign up for free hosted exchange at mail2web, set up on your phone but disable what you dont need (eg email/calendar/contacts sync) and you should still be able to initiate remote system wipe whenever you want
Built-in options
WM 6 itself has two built-in features that can be used to address this - pass code request and encryption (SD). If your phone is lost unless the thief knows the PIN, he cannot access the phone. Even if he resets the phone (lost of internal data), he cannot access the content of the SD as it was encrypted. However, encrypting the whole SD may imply overhead to the system, affecting W/R performance.
Same question here.
I'm currently expirimenting with this app. http://www.mycnknow.com/Safelocken.htm
Very promising I must say.
Has anyone tried Pocket Secure or Sprite Terminator?
In my research I found another one.
MotionApps mSafe. Anyone tried it?

I'm using sprite terminator with no issues. Installed with no problems and easy to set up. One slight drawback though is that there is no option to set the gps timeout. Even though the HD GPS is quite sensitive, it can take a while to get a sat lock indoors - especially if the phone is in another location /town since the last sat lock. Sprite terminator times out the gps after 1 - 2 mins.
Looking at sprites forum, this has been reported, and apparently they are looking at adding this option.
You might also wanna look at GuardMobile from Germany, similar to Sprite Terminator. Maybe you can let us know your evaluation of the two, I only use GuardMobile.

WIMP is not properly hidden on the phone. It still appears in the "remove programs" list so a thief can easily check if it is installed or not on the phone. Also it has no manual and there are some menu items that I dont get. I have written to the author but am now the wiser.
WIMP and others
I've been trying the different programs and during testing none of them are working. WIMP doesn't sent messages back when it receives the command. Is that because the GPS port settings? Com Port and Baud Rate? what are the default settings for a blackstone? I tried MASPware but again there didn't seem any way to veryify the program was working before I buy it. Same goes with UTA mobile. I just want a reliable program that if i misplace the device, i send a sms and it sends me back a location. suggestions?
Hi guys, I recently reinstalled windows from 7 to 7.5 but I lost all the contacts which I added onto my phone since I was on 7. There was no options that I saw to "save to sim card or save to phone" like most other phones out there so I dont know where they are saved.. I had a brain wave about the fact that the contacts were "linked" with my email account but there is only the emails saved. I am wondering if the numbers are saved somewhere or, each time I have to reinstall I will have to ask fro their numbers every time? Has anyone else had this happen?
Please let me know as I really want to update my rom and radio for better battery life!
Many thanks,
Marc
you cant save contacts to SIM card.. not compatible... phone automatically save contacts to your Live account (and you never loose contacts if you not loose your login data ) this is only if you login to Live account with your phone (and also live activation code entered)
you can access online to your account contact list via
http://mail.live.com/?rru=contacts
ahh yes, i see it now, so then I can export the whole list as a .csv file too. Now I sign in on my phone and can add it to the phone directory? Sorry if its nooby but I cant seem to access anything like that through the dedicated email app? Juat on internet explorer?
Marc
if you have mails in contacts list, you simply use mail app
and again, all is simple... you thinking too much simple: add Live account to phone and all is solved... all your contacts be saved and you not loose it and you use this contacts with phone or computer...
i give you this link http://mail.live.com/?rru=contacts to access it via computer (if you need to change contacts very easy if need it), not with WP7...
pda v8 has this function build-in
The screen on my Samsung Focus no longer works however the rest of the phone works as I am able to place calls using the bluetooth in my car. However I have since picked up an HTC One X but I am at a loss on how to get to my contacts. I do not see any of my contacts on the windows live ID I used to set up the phone nothing seems to have backed up anywhere but they are on my phone somewhere since I can place a call using name recognition in my car.
so I guess I have 2 questions.
Is there something i'm missing within the Zune software to backup the entire phone like Itunes has?
Is there a way I can access the internal storage via my computer to fish out the contacts in my phonebook?
If anyone is able to help you'd lower my blood pressure and prolong my life. Thank You.
do you have a "sim card" if so all your contacts are in it!
Had 2 different places read the sim card. They said there's nothing on it. It's the first thing I tried.
Contacts are on the phone, unless you've specified you want them back-up'd somewhere else, online. I usually use either Outlook account or Gmail to sync my contacts. The contacts on the SIM are retrieved TO the phone, not saved TO the SIM (Settings, People, Import SIM contacts).
One way I see you could backup your contacts this is to get these 2 files from the phone:
"store.vol" and "PimIndex.vol"
These contain the SMS and the contacts.
For that, mandatory reads: this thread and this thread
You could explore the phone with Touch Explorer, but depends on too many things if it will work...
Another idea is to do it "blindly" with 2 phones: yours and another Focus side-by-side and trying to copy exactly where to tap...
There might be an app on Marketplace that backups automatically on skydrive. But you'd have to search for such.
Good luck mate.

I always use the phone one.
Phone means that the contact will be saved in your phone's internal memory. It won't be affected if you change sims or delete your google acct.
Google means that the contact will be saved in your google acct, you can access it from anywhere.
SIM means that the contact will be saved in your SIM directory. That way, if you insert your sim in another phone, you would still have the contact's details.
By the way, i don't think it's related to android OS at all or galaxy y....please use the general forum (in General Discussion) for these...

I recommend saving to your google account.
This way all your contacts will be intact, in case you lose the SIM or brick your phone.
Also I have found that making changes to a contact using your browser interface (firefox, chrome etc) is much easier than trying to make changes on screen.
Turning on sync will ensure that your contacts are synced with your phone. If you own more than one android device, you'll get the contacts synched to all of them.
