OK. So trying to fix an issue on my wife's I337. Flashed 4.3 Firmware, not realizing that this didn't include the modem firmware. So I found myself with a working, stock S4 with not WIFI or Mobile Data. Installed Safestrap, with the intention of flashing the Modem Firmware. KNOX appears to be stopping booting into Safestrap. So what should I do. I basically need a working method to install the modem firmware or something similar. Please help. I'm a moron. Feel free to berate me with your advice. Thanks.
Edit: So I fixed it using Odin and the firmware in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674223

Also, use ODIN 3.07. For me 3.09 didn't flash stock correctly, but 3.07 worked perfectly.

I activated my S4, and I 'thought' I had taken the MDL update before I rooted, apparently not. My WIFI will not come on and I get the nag notice every time I try to open. Upon looking at my About Device screen I see that that my baseband version is L720VPUAMDC but my Build number shows JDQ39.L720VPUAMDL.
Used CF-Root and it seems to be holding according to Root Checker. I am currently downloading the stock MDC restore in an attempt to correct this problem. My hopes is a flash back to stock and starting from scratch will fix my woes. Am I wrong?
No custom recovery installed.I did a factory reset when I saw things were going bad. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The first 2 links on that page are to Odin and the Stock MDC firmware.
There are step by step instructions listed on how you will use Odin to flash the Stock MDC firmware.
I am currently downloading the SPH-L720_MDC_STOCK_RESTORE.exe file I found from another link. Do you think that will pose a problem? I would really hate to stop my current download and start all over.

If it is the one from here http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=231 that will be fine. You will need to follow the instructions in that link.

Hey!
I recently rooted my GS4 i337. Everything is all working as of now. However, I want to flash an AOSP ROM onto it. So, I followed instructions and at first, I flashed TWRP to my phone. It said it was successful, but when I go to recovery it puts me in ODIN. I then uninstalled TWRP and got the latest version that is said to support i337 GS4. Flashed successfully, but when I boot it still goes ODIN.
I tried both manually recovery booting with the buttons, and the UI on the actual app. Boots ODIN both ways.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? How can I boot into TWRP or CWM so I can make a quick ROM backup and flash an AOSP ROM?
Cheers! And if this is the wrong section, can a moderator please move it? I'm new to this forum.
Thanks.

Unless your on mdl firmware you can't flash twrp or cwm. I'm guessing you're not.

Don't think so, my baseband is UCUEMK2 on 4.3. So, there's no way to get any custom ROMs on this? What can I do so I can?

I found this a video on how to use Safestrap on 4.3.
It's for the Verizon variant but the SE Linux matches, can I give Safestrap a shot?
EDIT: Scratch that, I've found an ATT compatible version (3.71) and it booted into it perfectly! Now I can backup my stock ROM real quick and flash on my new one! Thanks!!
Hi everyone,
My phone was acing kind of wonky after the 4.4.2 update so I wanted to start fresh from MK2 and OTA to 4.4.2 like I did before. I tried to odin back to MK2 via Odin and the stock MK2 tar but it immediately failed and now it states Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select Recovery Mode in Kies and try again. If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated. I'm pretty sure the stock 4.4.2 tar would fix it right up but I dont see it on Samsung Firmware website yet. Thanks.
I don't think you can Odin back to a previous firmware, in this case from 4.4.2 to 4.3. I believe this was the same issue with going from 4.3 to 4.2. You will need the 4.4.2 NAE tar file to recover your phone.

kevin is correct there is no way I think it is due to keys of going back ( not sure if its keys but think it is heh ) anyways what you need to due is install the newest update before kitkat threw odin then you can update to kitkat now that the ota file is available for download.

Which version of Odin do you use. You must use odin 3.09 our newer. I don't know if this will work, but older versions will definitely fail.

I don't think its necessary. I used 3.07 to Odin MK2 before updating to NAE.

3.07 works for mk2, he's on nae and screwed up trying to odin backwards. If he uses the newest odin he might have better luck.

That might be true. Was just trying to say you don't always need the latest to get it to work. Ex. I've used MK2 on 3.07 and 1.85 I believe. But yes he might have luck with the newest.

I was in this situation yesterday. Here's how I got out of it:
1) I downloaded the (unofficial) NAE tar from here: https://mega.co.nz/#!55cWBB6a!v1L7J2MfLMe-gjybYpNSbnDapIVaKtbEJngRQmBcsKU
2) I used Odin to flash it. It failed at the end of the system partition, but it appears to have succeeded for all of the other partitions.
3) I then used Heimdall to flash just the system partition again, and it succeeded. I rebooted, and all was well. You may try Odin a couple times to see if it succeeds, but I didn't have the patience.
Hopefully that will get you up and running again.
Hi everyone,
Thank you for all your responses. I was able to recover after finding muniz_ri post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50345826&postcount=224 I used his Tar file and easily recovered from there. It rebooted twice while setting up but everything has been smooth sailing after that. Hopefully others can benefit from this information as it was kind of lost in that thread. Again, thank you to everyone for your help.

you could try an older version of kingo. 1.1.6 is what worked for me. I posted a link to my dropbox folder in the q & a thread where someone asked for it. I have heard vroot for other folks, but I never tried it.

KitKat can't be rooted, you have to install a rooted KK ROM through an already rooted device in SafeStrap then install the firmware with Odin.

This is not 100% accurate. You flash a ROOTED kitkat in SafeStrap and then flash the proper kernels and such in Odin. You are not flashing the full firmware using Odin.

The file you are flashing is 76MB. No Note 3 firmware is 76MB. You are flashing a kernel, modem and bootloader that are not included with the SafeStrap flash.

...which he is calling firmware in his instructions. You could ask him why he's calling it that. I realize what it is I'm just posting it the way his instructions have it and most people here have been calling it to keep things separated.
i root my gs4 with odin, everything went fine but I wanted to get my gs faster so i downloaded kernel for gs4 and flashed it. mistake here. i didnt check if it supports 4.4.4. it only support devices under 4.3 so.. no wifi. that was the problem i had other than that, all was good. than I downloaded some OTA file for my gs4 and when i tried to flash it with safestrap, it kept said fail. so i thought it's maybe because i already have OS installed... so i wiped system, data and i tried to flash that OTA file, fail again. now im screwd. there is no OS on my gs4. when i trun it on, it vibrates, than reboots and than goes into Odinmode and say something like "nornal boot not possible" in red.
so i spent couple days searching how to get my phone work again but everything i tried didnt work. and for galaxy s4 sgh i337 nj4 version 4.4.4 it even made me think it was made just for me.
i tried kies, failed it told me to do emergency recovery but my phone does not show on list.
can anyone please help me.. Im new to Samsung Galaxy..

You'll have to use the ODIN file from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674223
Flash that in ODIN, use the rootable version if you want to root it using towelroot.
Besides that, you can't flash any custom kernels on the S4 unless you're on the 4.2.2 MDL bootloader, and there's no way to get back to that from 4.4.
