Sorry mate , i do not understand what you mean until i remove battery...... when you remove the battery and put it back?? i am guessing you do not mean the phone without battery....
What odin version are you using?
did you try in a different pc?
Ohh I see what you mean, like this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO7TVY2UXEY
try in another pc
Why not use it without the battery? Since it's connected to the pc it should draw its power from the usb. Unless you get a "battery missing" error
same problem as in video showed
same problem as in video showed but when i put battery back in odin removes my phone again.i tried on different pc but same problem .can i flash my galaxy s4 without battery because odin detects the phone when i remove the battery.
same problem
I'm having this exact same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?
odin dosen't detect my phone
my problem is same like you. when i removed bateery it detects but when i insert battery again it removed. but when i changed a new genuine cable problem is sort out
bro you dont need to do any thing the simple way is just change your usb cable, if you have already new genuine cable than please replace it from otrher new one,

I lost recovery on my phone and when I try and boot my phone, it says "system software not authorized by att."
I'm trying to ODIN my phone back to stock but I can't see my phone when I open ODIN and put my phone in download mode. does anyone know of any fixes for this?
Try different USB port or different cable.
You might have to try a different computer. I can't for the life of me get my pc to recognize my device. But I have no problem on my laptop
Sent from my Nexus 5
Thanks guys. I found out that I had to restart my computer after installing the drivers and then it detected it with no problems!
Hi. I tried to find a thread with my problem but I couldn't so I'm creating this one.
I have a Samsung Galaxy s4 i9500 with a custom kit kat rom (OzcanRom). I tried to revert to stock using odin but I can't make download mode work. When I start the phone in download mode it immediately says "Downloading do not turn off target" altough I haven't connected to the computer yet. The phone does not respond so I have to take the battery to restart. If I connect the phone to the computer, the computer doesn't recognize it. It doesn't even appears on device manager (I also looked for unknown devices and it is not there).
I tried to do a factory reset through recovery but it doesn't work. Odin worked previously so I don't know what it doesn't works now.

Hi
The message Downloading do not turn off target is normal when in download mode even if you are not connected to the PC , what you mean the phone does not respond? what do you see in Odin , does Odin acknowledge that the phone is connected?
If Odin does not respond try this:
Odin troubleshooting: If Odin accidentally gives you "fail" try the following:
- Repeat procedure.
- Make sure that all actions of Kies are disabled from task manager.
- Change usb port.
- Try another usb cable (make sure it is the original).

You were right, another usb cable solved the problem. The message "Downloading do not turn off target was misleading". Thank you so much!
Ok so. I bricked my gt-i9505, and i have tried everything to try and fix it. The problems are as follows:
Phone wont turn on
Wont boot to recovery mode
Odin, Kies and pc wont recognize phone
The things i did that got me to a bricked phone are i flashed paranoid android onto the phone and tried to flash gapps full modular, it wasnt working, clockworkmod gave me a status 6 error and so i decided to use mobile odin to flash it as soon as it began the phone crashed and it wont turn on anymore. i am able to go into download mode
I need some help if anyone can help. I dont know what to do.

If the phone won't turn on at all you might be boned.
Odin and all that obviously require you to be able to boot to download mode.
Are you positive the battery is good? Could you find another battery to try?
Does the charging light come on when its plugged in? Are there any signs of life at all?

I think it does turn on because the phone does continue to heat up but its just a black screen also i can put it into download mode and it stays there without being plugged into charge. I'm not sure about the battery ill have to check that out. ill get back to you.
It sounds like you dont have recovery or a rom installed at all.
To fix that you need odin. If the PC wont recognize the phone that is a problem. Did you try a different USB cord to connect to the PC? They are not all created equal.

yes i have used both the original one that came with the phone and the s5 one that my brother has, i have had no luck.
my phone shows up as "msm8960" or mtp usb device also it it device driver software was not successfully installed.
[UPDATE] i have found something similar to odin called JOdin3 that connects to my phone, through this i will try to flash a stock firmware, downloaded from sammobile, and see what happens.
Odin doesn't work without the drivers, and since you had an issue with the drivers that would explain why Odin doesn't work yet JOdin3 does.

No it still wont connect to either but the computer does recognize the phone.
MTP is built into Windows, so the fact the PC detects the phone is a good sign. The entire problem you're having seems to hinge on your PC rejecting the Samsung drivers, which are absolutely required for Odin to function. Those drivers should have no problems installing, and I have successfully installed them on both Windows 7 (x64) and Windows 8.1 machines so I know the installer does work.
There could be many reasons as to the source of your problem, such as a corrupt file or registry entry from when the phone soft-bricked. You want to take a closer look and do some detective work here. Uninstall the drivers if you haven't already done so. Clean out the PC with CCleaner. Even attempt a reinstall of the drivers in the PC's safe mode. Regardless of what you choose to do, if you ever wish to use Odin, you'll need to get this resolved.

yeah ill definitely try to fix the problem because odin is such a great tool. i have uninstalled and installed the samsung drivers but i'll go search the net and what not to try and find a fix. odin was working before when i flashed the stock rom and changed something to mtp and adb (i think i put in an ussd code or something (*#0808#) and through that i was able to use odin) but because the wifi wasn't working on the stock rom, i flashed a custom rom to fix the wifi problem but was once again greeted with the odin problem.
Hi there !!!,windows doesn't recognize my s4 i337m in download mode (code 29), when i was flashing (stock canada 5.0.2) my cousin unplugged the cable by mistake, now i can go into download mode but widows 7 doesnt recognize anymore (tried different pcs and cables , the same), did it damage the usb port? or is hardbricked?? what can i do??? please help!!
I'm no expert on this, but you can try taking out battery. Hold power button to discharge hardware and put battery back in and see if it works. You can also try factory reset & wipe cache from recovery (Vol Up + Home + Power) and try again.
Your phone at least goes to Download mode so that's good sign I guess. You're using ODIN to flash 5.0.2, right?
Wait more experienced person to answer, though.

It looks like the PC does recognize something is connected; it just doesn't know what the device is. This makes me think USB port is fine otherwise PC wouldn't recognize anything AT ALL. Does the phone still charge?
You can try the 3 methods here. I know it says for Code 28, but it will reinstall drivers for usb ports. Restart and see if phone is detected.
If it's still not detected, remove Samsung drivers, Kies, or anything related to Samsung phone. Restart and install Samsung USB drivers again. Restart again and see if phone is detected.
bro i'm afraid it did not work, perhaps replacing usb port on my device? or the whole flex?
aditional data: my nephew unplugged the usb cable by mistake while i was flashing canada stock 5.0.2 , obviously odin "failed" , but after that , windows 7 does not recognize my device anymore. i can still go into download mode.

Well, I'm stumped too now, man. You can try the driver thing I said on another computer. I don't know any other things you can try.
If you can charge your phone, your usb port probably works fine. The firmware got corrupted, causing this problem most likely.
solved!!

1. Are you able to enter the recovery menu?
2. Are you able to enter the download mode?
3. Do you hear the USB connected sound on your Windows machine when you connect the phone while the phone is in download mode?
4. Have you tried different versions of Odin? During my researches I have found a site which recommends 3 different versions to try (AndroidSage: Download Latest Odin 3.13.1, 3.12.10, 3.12.5 Tool For All Samsung Galaxy Devices).
5. Have you tried installing a custom OS again or the stock Samsung OS?
1. unfortunately not
2.yes, this works fine
3.no
4.I tried just 3.14.4
5.I am trying installing stock firmware

I assume that you know that there is a warning before entering the download mode which you get rid of by pressing the volume up button.
Are you sure you are using a USB data cable and not only a cable used for charging? The first one usually has 4+ wires and the second one only 2.
If you are sure that you are using data cable then you can try doing different stuff to your phone (like turning it on and off, entering download mode and exiting) while connected to the PC and listening if any sound comes out of your PC.
