Phone Lags after root and Greenify Problem - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just rooted my N910C and i noticed it lags? i try to install Greenify and also it lags sometimes it wont even ask for SuperSU access and i tried turning off the power saving and even if its off the icon on status bar is still there. another thing is that when i install greenify i can't un install it normally i tried on google store and the only option is Deactivate. i tried uninstalling it via "Drag icon and drag to the trash can icon" and it says that i need to disable the administrator access and i tried unchecking it but it lags. so what i did was uninstall it via titanium back up and it worked. but still my phone lags any suggestion?
another problem is that my computer does not detect my phone anymore? but when i plug it in it charges and the "windows notification sound" knowing that it detects a device being plugged but i cant see it on my computer so i cant access the Internal storage
update*
so i tried inserting my phone to another PC to make sure and the drivers installs but when installing the MTP device it fails
please i need help i know the root process triggered knox so warranty is already voided

Mine too.. I rooted my stock rom, noticed lag on almost everything, typing, browsing, opening apps, settings... no idea why...then i installed custom rom..!

in that case, download the correct firmware from sammobile.com, i.e. according to your region / carrier.

Thanks everything is back to normal and lag was gone. but root was also gone im afraid to root again the lag might come back =(

I don't know if your Note 4 version is the same with mine (Mine is N910H), mine is rooted + greenify but I experience a little to no lag.
Bluetooth pairing in an instant.
Apps open in an instant.
Buttons response in also quick.
Perhaps background process or some rogue apps do the lag?

Yes iv'e tried slimming down to know the problem so what i did was
1) flash stock firmware (status ok)
2) root my device (status ok)
3) install greenify, six axis & some adblocker (status ok)
4) install xposed (status ok)
5) install xposed binaries and update (status phone lags)
6) uninstall xpoesed binaries amd updates (status ok)

Just do a search here; S-health app and Private mode interferes with xposed (or is it the other way around?) There are some settings you can change (disable secure storage in build.prop) that will get rid of the lag caused by xposed.

I concur that it is the exposed framework that is the culprit. It doesn't work well on samsung kitkat phones but only CM and AOSP. It will even ruin your private mode! So as for convinience I don't install it on Sammy phones

Note 4 reboots randomly only when rooted and it happens mostly when it's idle

I have the Note 4 (SM-N910H), I've had mine rooted for 2 weeks and it kept randomly rebooting twice or so every 1-2 days, now I've removed the root and everything seems to be working fine with no reboots for 1 week. Most (I even think all of them) of the random reboots happened while the phone was idle (screen off).
I've rooted using the CF-Auto-Root via odin.
Anyone knows why the root was causing random reboots for me? I've tried with knox disabled and enabled and with both options I get the same reboots while the phone is idle, also I would like to mention that I don't have an SD card in my phone. I tried everything, Tried a recovery reset, tried a soft reset... It only happens when I root it.
Thanks.
Sometimes xposed module can be a culprit.

It keeps rebooting mine so if i unroot it will solve the issue?

Xposed sucks on a stock odex roms. I suggest you flash a new rom or deodex your stock rom.
the note4 i have atm was never rooted (efuse intact), but it also reboots randomly every few days, sometimes every few hours!
so i would say root is NOT the general cause!!
maybe, or perhaps root makes it worse, but it cant be the only reason!!

In my case it's the issue, I've had mine un-rooted for 3 weeks now with no any random reboot, I rooted it yesterday using CF auto root just to test and it rebooted today while it was idle. I've never used any Xposed modules. It's also on stock rom and stock recovery.

Do you know how to unroot?
The biggest problem is how to pass my apps and data without Titanium that needs root access..

Just flash the latest stock ROM from sam mobile (http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/) for your exact model number and CSC using odin, no data or apps will be lost and root will be automatically removed after the process.
You can install "Phone INFO ★Samsung★" from play store to know what your exact model number and CSC, you can also type all the fields you get after you open it (except for your IMEI) and write them down here to me so I can give you a link of the stock ROM from sam mobile so you just download and flash via odin.
After rooting open SuperSu and choose never for the question to also disable Knox. Until now I didn't have any unexpected reboot.

I mentioned in my original post that I tried with both, knox disabled and enabled but with both options I had the same random reboots, no matter what I do, the same problem for me as long as I am rooted. Did you have random reboots before while you are rooted and now you fixed it somehow?

[HOWTO] disable OTA software update notification on KitKat

Basically as most of us know, updating to android L will remove root and custom recovery, also there are not many stable custom roms out yet for our G3 so many of us are still on stock rooted KitKat (It is also better than many of us expected with a cool remote control app that i don't think has been ported to custom roms yet). It even has option to hide and disable many bloatware apps (thanks LG). The annoying thing is that we get a pesky notification every day to update software. This should help everyone remove that notification, and don't worry should you change your mind the same method can re-enable it.
depending on your model go to dialer and enter hidden system settings.
some models here: if you have another model just google how to get to system settings (hidden)
Intl. LG G2 D855: 3845#*855#
AT&T LG G3 D850: 3845#*850#
T-Mobile LG G3 D851: 3845#*851#
Sprint LG G3 LS980: 5689#*990#
Verizon LG G3: ##228378 + send
Bell LG G3 D852: 3845#*852#
after you are in the hidden system settings:
- WLAN Test
- OTA Option
- disable or enable.
I just tried this so this isn't 100% verified working, will take a day or two to be sure it works but i've found cases of people saying it works on other sites so I thought i'd share it here, any feedback is appreciated as to if it works on all models etc.
- on my D852 bell version this actually DID NOT WORK ^^^... i'm going to leave it there because of reports it works on some models. check below for a working mod for D852
However BELOW is a fix that did work for me.
grab this app from play store : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice&hl=en
go to system apps > Software Update > DMNotiService
- uncheck that service, grant root access, then reboot and wait and see if you get the notifcations still. I'm pretty sure this will work but obviously only time will tell. I dont think this will do any harm because you can re-enable the service should any apps start to malfunction, however as usual you are responsible for modifications you make to your device. It's been 3 days or so since I did this and I haven't seen a OTA update notification.
Hope this helps a few people out there
~ KS
this didn't work for me actually, about 12 hours after i applied it on d852 i got the software update notification; i've tried applying it again will report back if it works or not.
You can just hold the notification down go to app options and uncheck the show notifications option. And 90% of what you said about lollipop is not valid anymore.

If you just flash a lollipop ROM from recovery you don't lose anything. Bu i agree with you on the stability part.
code works for Verizon to access hidden menu but there is no WLAN Test option only Device Test; ELT Test; Log Enable. Anyone else been able to use this route to disable this OTA notification?

if you want to try the method i just posted on the original post it's a good lead, although if you are on another variant the software update app could have another name, you should be able to locate the app by seeing what app info screen you end up when long pressing the notification when you get it. I have a hunch this is going to be the universal fix because when i used this app i noticed the software update in google framework is already disabled by default so thats probably why the builtin method didn't work but we are still guessing so far that's just a thought.

İf that doesn't work you can use titanium backup to freeze app updates, software updates and update center apps. That's a solid fix.

that's for d855 and the titanium backup might work but freezing the entire app can cause more problems then disabling the notification, some of the other services are responsible for updating some of the stock apps like quick remote (i think) and personally i want those updated i just don't want to lose root
Kronic,
So I followed your suggestion by downloading that app. Opened it up and went into System Updates (my phone doesn't have Software Updates) but didn't find a DmNotiService option. I do however have a DmDownloadService that is checked and highlighted in blue. I'm wondering if this is it. Any ideas? Also do you know what the significance of something in blue is? I see red means it has been unchecked by can't figure out blue. Thanks for investigating this. Look forward to hearing your input on this.

my phone doesn't have system updates so that is probably just the same app with a different name; I would try to disable it and see if your update notifications go away, if anything else goes wrong you can always re-enable it later.
I'm not sure why the DmDownloadService is highlighted blue but if that service is inside the system update app it's probably the service that actually downloads the update where as the noti service is just giving you the notification. I haven't tried disabling the download service because i don't think it will ever run on it's own without you clicking the update, and if it does it's probably already ran... not too sure to be honest. It's been a few days since i disabled the DMNotiService on my phone though and i haven't seen an update notification since so i'm happy as a clam
So I forgot to write back. I skipped this completely, downloaded Titanium Backup and just froze the entire System Update folder which is what the update notification is linked to. Once I did that I rebooted the phone and not one update since. Been quite a few days and nothing so I'm almost positive it worked.

"device status - Custom" refurbished phone

Hi all
I've upgraded from S4 to s5 today
Bought a refurbished s5 unlocked from eBay (reputable seller)
Rather stupidly I didn't restore factory settings as I assumed seller would (they sell multiple phones so I'm assuming they know what they are doing!!)
Downloaded and updated all my apps and data already.
Then I've gone into settings and notice it says status is "custom". So I get message about custom software and updates won't work etc
I'm not quite sure why this would be the case?
I'm assuming they dont need to root to unlock the phone if it wasn't unlocked already?
Even if they had to root why would they install a custom rom? ?
2 questions:
1) I'm assuming I just need to download stock from sammobile and install using odin????
2) is there anything to worry about/check after buying a refurbished s5? Fingerprint works etc so I'm confident it's a real Samsung phone!
Just a couple of weird things like there is an app in the application manager called Baby crying monitor but there is no app anywhere I can find????!!!!
Any help appreciated.

Sorry, not sure what you mean by that? How do I check cashe isn't set to art?
2 other bits got me wondering..
There is knox mentioned in the application manager but there is no app for it (like this crying baby app thing)
also when I try to uninstall apps or try to stop "restarting" apps in "clean master" it says something about needing access and shows a screen shot of SU. Basically telling me I need root access with SU to able to perform those tasks.
Before I rooted my S4 I'm sure I didn't need root to uninstall programs through clean master? ??
I might be wrong but it maybe that a previous owner has rooted the phone and the root has been removed but a full reset not been done?
I dunno. It just feels a bit weird.!!!
As I am "Far from a Jedi", you could try using "phone info samsung". It is on the google play store. Will give you info about your phone to check.
Failing that, I would suggest a factory reset to return to a known starting point.
I know it will involve setting up your phone again, at least you will know for certain.
Hope this helps...

Have you thought about contacting the seller and saying I want a different phone or money off as this shows custom, has Knox flag been tripped in the download menu? From power off hold vol down + power + home.
Thanks to all replies!
So a factory reset has got it cleaned up.
I've used the app mentioned in previous post and everything is legit.
Knox is at 0.0
It still says Custom though but considering everything is legit I'm not too fussed
Would like to know why it says custom though!!???
Unrelated question (didn't want to hog posts by creating a new one....)
I've been using clean master on my s4 and I was using between 35-50% of ram.
On my s5 I'm running consistantly at a lot higher ram I'm having to boost frequently during the day
Is it because the s5 just uses more ram or is it related to the fact I was rooted on the s4 and debloated a tonne of c**p? ????
(The ram is well over 1gb most of the time. Even when I boost it only goes to about 50%)
I don't get lag or slowness but as a bit OCD I want lower!!!)
Any ideas why it's so high?
Its normal, IDK why. I'm running AICP and even I've never seen my ram usage dip below 1.2GB, it was 1.4GB on the Sammy rom.
Annoyingly I've now reinstalled all apps and folder etc (after factory reset)to find out that certain apps won't work because it says my phone is rooted.
Is my only option now to try reinstall software through kies ??

if your knox is 0x0 your varanty is fine. well u can use xblast xposed tools to change the custom to official. after this u can receive updates on your phone. if u don't want to keep your phone rooted after update phone is going to be unrooted if u want to keep it buy su pro and tick on survival mode.

i need help please ??

I have attempted to root my phone, and it has succeeded but i noticed that after root there was huge lags and there was an annoying notification from samsung saying that my phone was rooted .so what i did was flashed stock rom but i accidentally flashed a downgraded version of the fimware that was on my phone ...so my phone went into a soft brick...so i quickly download the latest version of my phones fimware that was available and flashed it on odin.and that was problem fixed and now the Problem is my signal in the status bar only shows 4G or sometimes 4g+ and never LTE, which I have gotten before. I'm also getting H+, and H, as well as 3G, which I never got before. When I had LTE it was a significantly faster than any of the others H+, H, 3G, E.
I downloaded the firmware from Sammobile, and I'm 100% sure I used the G935T firmware. If you know of a better place to download firmware, or an official site that'd be great.
Anyone have any idea on how to fix these? Thanks.
:crying:

Hello there mate.
In response to your question, at the first step you were step. Right after rooting your S7 Edge (G935T) you should:
- Install BusyBox by Nathan Campos (Play Store) Grant SU permission and Install under /system/xbin
- Install Trickster MOD Kernel Settings (Play Store) Slide left to panel options and go into general. On that menu head down to governor and switch it to INTERACTIVE
- Head over to developer options and look for Force GPU Rendering and turn it no (2D Hardware option on Apps)
- Open Titanium Backup and under backup/restore list search for "security" and freeze the SecurityLogAgent (This will disable all the notification from SU that keep bothering you every time)
- Install BuildProp.Editor and when you run the app after granting permission, search for ro.securesupport.storage and change the value to "false".
After this you wont have any lags, problems, or malfunctions at all.

System UI Permacrashed (systemui tuner)

I screwed up pretty bad. Every since i started using System UI tuner (the app) any changes to the phone like changing resolution and stuff would cause SystemUI to close down and the phone had to be restarted, but it was fine because it worked after the restart. Earlier today i put it into maximum power saving mode and it crashed the same way but every time i restart it shows the "SystemUI has closed" right as the phone boots up and i have a black screen and i can only turn off or restart.
The creator of the tuner app had 3 solutions to this problem. a simple restart , which didnt work
The second was solution was to input something using the adb but adb never connects because Maximum power saving mode disables Usb Debugging (fml..)
And the third one was to send him some file on ur phone and he'd send u back a fixed one but thats prob not gonna work cause i cant usb transfer anything onto it anyways.
I tried backing up using TWRP , wiping everything and restoring but the same issue happens
Is there anything i can do other than a complete wipe? Like is there maybe any way to uninstall or remove the SystemUI tuner with TWRP. or maybe put myself out of maximum power saving mode or something like that? Please help..
From twrp you should be able to navigate to data/app and delete the app from there. Long shot but might worth the try.
Use Safe Mode to uninstall SystemUI Tuner
Same thing happened to me on S8+
It would go straight to a black desktop and I could pull down notifications and use the nav keys at the bottom but couldn't do anything else.
Eventually I noticed the little message come up like you mentioned and realized it was related to SystemUI Tuner so I started in Safe Mode and uninstalled the app.
Once uninstalled the issue went away. I ended up reinstalling and use SystemUI Tuner but I am more careful and I know what to do if that happens again. Maybe if Samsung didn't remove so much and lock down the rest we wouldn't have to do this just to use a built in android feature.
