Hi guys!
I just flashed the 4.4 factory image with full wipe, didn't root or anything, the phone is completely stock. Everything seems fine, except for Google Now: swiping up (including lock screen) starts Google Search, which doesn't listen to "Ok Google" and doesn't display what Google Now used to display, in fact it's just a blank white page with a search bar at the top.
How do I get Google Now back?
I will appreciate your suggestions!

I think OK Google is available just in the US
Also, You have to slide left for Google Now.
have you tried turning google now on? longpress any empty space on a homescreen. press settings, turn on google now. if you dont have that option, install google search from the play store.
Log into your Google account, then go in "Google Settings" -> Search, and enable Google Now in there.
Both of you are referring to the Google Experience Launcher which KitKat for Nexus 4 do not come with, it needed to be sideloaded. (Not Google Search, the Launcher apk)
After changing the language and locale to English (US) I got the "Ok Google" listening back. Looks like this feature is not available if the device is set to English (UK), which is a bit dumb.
The Google Now screen with cartoonish mountains, Google Now cards, etc are still missing. I have a blank white Google Search page with the "Search, or say "Ok Google" search bar.
I tried long-pressing on an empty space on my homescreen, there are no Settings and/or way to enable Google Now there. Any other suggestions?
I had a similar issue, even GEL and GoogleNow were installed, but "Say 'Ok Google" didn't show up.
Cleared the data of Google Play Service, had to assign my widgets again, but "Say Ok Google" showed up

Then install this launcher. Tap and hold on, go into Settings and see if it has an option to turn on Google Now. http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...once-you-get-your-kitkat-update-apk-download/
Also there are some bugs for Google Now right now: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...-5-users-problem-may-spread-to-other-devices/

Thanks, I tried the Google Experience launcher. Unfortunately, Google Now is still missing and the settings still don't have anything related to Google Now
Update: I also tried adding a Google Now widget to the homescreen, the widget appeared saying "Google Now is not available".

Okay one last thing. Are you in Greece? I think its only available for USA.
You can try this: http://rezzo.wordpress.com/2012/08/19/how-to-get-google-now-working-fully-outside-of-the-usa/
1. Uninstall Google Search using Titanium Backup
2. Find and install Google Search v2.6
3. Activate Google Now
4. Update Google Search to the latest version

I am in Cyprus, and Google Now worked just fine before.
The issue may be related to Google Location Reporting suddenly being unavailable. I can't change its settings, it just says "not available in Cyprus". I wonder why, as it used to work.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, this seems to require root, and my device is not rooted.
Well, let me try a factory reset, may be something screwed up during the initial setup
Update: tried everything suggested, except deleting Google Search which requires root, and Google Now is still missing I give up.
Update 2: apparently, I'm not the only one with this issue, Google product forums are full of people with missing Google Now. So far nobody knows why it suddenly disappeared after upgrade to 4.4 and/or how to get it back.
Ok so I was disabling a bunch of pre-installed apps from my S4 but mistakenly disabled 'Google Search'. Dumb move I know.
The first image is my current phone's firmware.
The problem I'm having is that when I go itno Settings>Application Manager>Disabled and click on Enable it asks me if I want to "Delete all Data and Disable App"
Clicking on cancel just returns me to the App Info screen where the Enable button taunts me with it's uselesness.
Clicking on OK asks me if I want to "Replace This App with the Factory Version"
I've tried disabling and re-enabling other apps to see if it's a phone problem, but those other apps have re-enabled just fine.
I'm stumped as to what to do. I don't want to delete all the data as I have 'Google Now' calibrated just perfectly to my current lifestyle, and I really don't want to do a 'Facotry Reset', setting everything back up again is a massive ball-ache I would certainly like to avoid.
Any suggestions would be a great help :fingers-crossed:
EDIT:
Ok so afer getting impatient I just decided to go ahead and click on "Replace App with Factory Version"
After deleting all the data the "Enable" button re-enabled the app as expected.
When I opened the app I got a message saying that an 'Updated Version is Available on The Play Store' so I went ahead and updated it and then replaced the Google Now widget on on my phone.
To my surprise, all of my 'Cards' and recent searches were still there, I guess as Google collects as much data on us as possible I should of expected they would of retained it, and on this case I'm glad they did.
So in short - Problem Solved.
Hey.
I get the Nova since a few weeks now and can't use the "OK Google" phrase to activate the vocal search command. When I try to set it by learning assistant in Google app > Voice > OK Google anywhere (something like that), it says my mic is unavailable. I join a screen capture.
Thanks for your help.
same problem
I can confirm that I have the same issue on my phone. CAN-L11C432B100

I too have the same issue, i find it very frustrating. I think the Hivoice app ( hided ) is blocking the Ok google detection. Hope an update will fix that, maybe with android nougat.

i deactivated the google app...So decided to re activate it for curiosity and why not try to use it a bit hehehe...
I did not see/get any error or force close...or what so ever about the app.Everything is running well (for now) and when the app aske me to test the ''google ok'' thing,it has recognised my voice and is also working...no error from Mic or HiVoice ect...

I had a similar issue that ok google would not work so For weeks I tried everything and eventually I found a solution to my problem. Hopefully works for you guys too.
Settings> apps > default app settings > assistant & voice input > assist app > google app
Good luck. Let. E know how u get on.
Cheers
For a while now the hotword has not worked on my device. When I looked in settings just earlier, they're now completely greyed out!
Anyone else experiencing the same issue?!
Tried changing the language to English (US) instead of (UK). No difference.
PS: I'm using a substratum theme, that's why my Google app is black.

Have you disabled some speech app, if you disable the motor syntethiser of google it won't work well. I had this issue and reenabling/reinstalling the app solved the problem.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, I found that I had to uninstall all updates to the Google app, then it started working flawlessly.
It's very weird that you have to decide whether you want the latest Google app, or its main feature to work.
A number of people also reported this issue. I'll update again once it gets fixed.
Edit: the app updated again automatically, and I realised I could set up the voice model again and it's now working on the latest version!
Anyone having issues with the Google app? At 1st when I got the phone with stock app versions, "Hey Google" was working fine. But since I updated the app... (Regular & Beta versions) the only way to make it work is by pressing the microphone icon. (thru widget or app itself) But it never works via voice command (by saying Ok Google/Hey Google) Any ideas? It simply doesn't work. (Using Stock Launcher/ Nova Launcher/ Any Launcher & cleared app cache/data) Thanks.
Solution
Works fine for me, using lawnchair v2 though I doubt that makes a difference. Maybe retrain voice?
Works fine for me on stock launcher. Just tried it and woke up every Google device in the living room including my OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren and Google Home Hub. I'd say retrain your voice to it.
I'm actually having the same issue and idk why either lol, worked fine out of the box and then I updated and it no longer works lol
I had to delete and retrain my voice recognition profile before "hey google" kicked in again.
Reboot device and force close google with clear data and retrain google voice pet ? working fine
Found a solution...
Settings > Security & lock screen > Smart Lock > Voice Match > and enable "Access with Voice Match"
Finally Ok Google / Hey Google working 100%
Finally!
