So after upgrading my N7 to 4.2 this morning, I stopped over at Best Buy to pick up their last Netgear PTV3000.
Unfortunately, I'm not able to get it to work but it could also be that I just don't know how to use Miracast on N7. Should the device just show up as another SSID?
Anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks,
Joey

Which app are you trying to "miracast" ?
The new Youtube has a "Pair with youtube TV" option. Perhaps you can try that ?

I actually found a few threads discussing how the miracast is still not there on the Nexus 7. Will just have to wait.
And it should be an exact mirror, not just certain apps
Now for the Bad News
Called Google support about Nexus 7, Miracast, PTV3000 problem. Level 1 didn't know about the feature. Level 2 couldn't figure out why the feature was not on my tablet. Level 3 said the feature is on the Nexus 4 - not quite ready for the Nexus 10 - and NEVER going to be on the Nexus 7. The main reason I bought this tab was for this feature ( I have poor eyesight ). Thanks for nothing Google! How about reimbursing me for the Tablet and Netgear adapter I bought because of your false advertising!
It doesn't seem to work on Nexus 4 either. N4 sees the adapter, but when I tap to connect, says "connecting" and never connects. Sigh Documentation of PTV3000 which is quite scarse says
*PTV3000 supports pre-standard compliant Miracastâ„¢ wireless enabled display devices.

which to me pretty much means 60 bucks spent for nothing..

Only the Nexus 4 is Miracast certified. The PTV3000 is not.
The PTV3000 doesn't work either with the Xperia T or V, even though Sony's product blog recommends it as Miracast dongle
The download has finally been posted! Firmware 2.1.5. Here is the link: http://support.netgear.com/product/PTV300
It seems that this is the same 2.1.5 that had the Miracast HDCP Authentication issue before. WiDi doesn't work either. You also have to switch between Miracast and WiDi. FAIL. Really disappointed with this. They even gave a big presentation at CES about how they are coming out with an update very soon. Way to go Netgear.
NEXUS4 :
PTV3000 miracast now works with the NEXUS 4, you just have to upgrade the PTV3000 firmware to the latest 2.2.9. It's a little slow to initially connect (~2min) but once it does it runs perfectly.
The NEXUS 7 with PTV3000 2.2.9:
I''m getting the following using PTV3000 2.2.9 trying to connect to Nexus 7 4.2.1:
From N7 wifi --> "Wi-Fi Direct": Peer Devices "Push2TV xxxxxx" available, click on it and then it goes to invited and then quickly to connected.
Once my N7 shows connected (above) my TV screen goes from Ready for connection to Connecting to wireless display device.... but the TV screen never goes past the connecting message.
I opened a trouble ticket with NetGear regarding the PTV3000/Nexus7 issue above and this is what I'm dealing with:
Per NetGear tech:
"Regarding your concern, as off now PTV3000 doesn't support Miracast so, it will not work with Nexus 7. We apologize for the inconvenience."
I responded to him with:
1) According to your NetGear PTV3000 Installation Manual the PTV3000 does support Miracast:
"Miracast Wireless Display
Push2TV now supports Miracastâ„¢ Wireless Display. To switch between Intel WiDi
and Miracast modes, press the button on the side of the Push2TV for 2 seconds.
You can then launch the wireless display application on a Miracast-compatible
smartphone, tablet, or laptop, and connect."
2) I also have a Nexus 4 that supports Miracast and it connects to the PTV3000 (although slow connecting) once connect it runs without any issues.
I'll let you know what transpires with the NEXUS 7 and PTV3000.
Refluga any luck?
How did it turn out for you Regluga? I saw your thread on Netgear support forums too, but didn't see any update after your last response. Were you ever able to get it to work? I am loving my Nexus 7 and need ability to mirror the output to my TV (Netgear/Miracast or any other means). Looking forward to your reply.
Cheers Bro!
How do I change resolution to 1080p, on Nexus7?
Hello.
I have a new samsung f series tv that supports screen mirroring (with last update firmware).
The last update of nexus 4 enable screen mirroring so i was very happy to test to my samsung tv.
But when i enter to source screen mirroring and enable from nexus 4 view settings the wireless screen (something like that),
appears at tv a message "connecting with nexus ... " and after 3-5 seconds dissapeard and say the first message that is ready to connect.
can help me to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance
has anyone manage to work screen mirroring to samsung tv with it's built-in receiver (not with external)?
Thank you.

Nope. I successfully connected my Nexus 4 to my 55' F6500 last fall. After i updated to Kitkat (vanilla and CM11 tested) screen mirroring stopped working.
Same with my Sony Xperia Tablet Z. Worked with 4.1.2 - stopped working with Kitkat.
It seems liek samsing TV's don't like Kitkat right now.
Allso a Slimport cable will do.
I', thinking of moving away from samsung and over to the new Nexus 5 when it comes out, however i need screen mirroring (miracast) Anyone using screen mirroring to a latest model samsung TV, does it work, what's it like?
I just bought a Samsung 32F6400 tv, wich has screen mirroring that is designed to work just with samsung phones/tablets.
I turned on wireless display on my phone, it connects to the tv, and after that i get a 2-3 sec black screen on the tv, and then it says Screen mirroring off/disabled...
Did anyone get this to work on a samsung tv ?
problem with Samsung
I also have a Samsung TV 2013 edition and when I try connecting via miracast it says connected then the TV stops and exits miracast mode, however the nexus 4 did work with my freind's lg smart TV and my brother's note 2 worked on my TV so I'm guessing that the problem is with Samsung not the nexus. And I was using stocl android 4.3 ....:crying:
I'm hoping there's a port to make it work with Nexus phones.. Anyone?

I have a Sony Bravia, a Panasonic Viera and Samsung pn43d490(doesn't work) and screen mirror and slimport works great with sony and panasonic, but the phone screen still on all the time, I want to turn the phone screen off while using netflix, please need help
Hey guys I just noticed yesterday in the display options is an option called cast screen. When pressing this option it says no devices found.
My question is with this option available does this mean I can mirror my tablet to my tv? And if so will chromecast support this or do I need a miracast adaptor?
I have the first nexus 7(2012) model on 4.4.2
Thanks in advance

I have the same question. I noticed this option on my Nexus 5 but not sure if it was there on 4.4 or showed up on 4.4.1 or 4.4.2. Hopefully somebody chimes in.

I've only noticed it since 4.4.2

I tried to get it working with my Netgear PTV3000, but it wouldn't work. I'm assuming it only works with a Chromecast adapter.

Just Google. Android display setting cast screen
....the answer is there...forthcoming screen mirroring for Chromecast.
I read two sources stating that chromecast will soon have screen mirroring but how reliable are the sources? I have ordered one anyway so hopefully mirroring does come to chromecast. Until then I'm happy to view what's available so far

Cast screen works perfectly between Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 and Sony 42W650A... Sometimes, the connection fails while casting but hey, it works
It is supposed to be Miracast. If you have a receiving device that supports it, it should work.
Cast screen isnt only for Chormecast, its for all Miracast devices. I have 2013 Smart Tv from Samsung and SGS4 i9505 with CM11 and still cant get it working. I managed it only one times, and I dont know how :crying: (I had in developer options turned on Wireless display certification, and then in Cast screen option have many more options, but i dont know working combination now)
Anyone can help?

New Cast Screen option (4.4.2) replaces the Wireless Display option which was there (on Moto X) before KK. [Settings/Display/Wireless Display]...
It works on my Nexus 7 2013 to cast to my LG Smart TV 42LN575V....the screen is mirrored perfectly, in Miracast mode, not Chromecast, direct mirror of phone screen on TV.
Cast not working on Vivokat 4.4.2 (Incredible S)
My Incredible S with Vivokat 4.4.2 build #4 can't see my WiFi dongle (T516 from W2Corp). This dongle works with DLNA, Airplay and Miracast. The phone can't see my computer with Airplay server running as well. If I use any application such as iMediaShare or Streambels, Airplay works as it should, both to the computer and to my dongle. I am not fully aware of what Cast ought to support. Is it only Miracast or is it both Miracast, Chromecast and Airplay. Can anyone help clear this and have any good idea on how I get Cast to see my devices?

Did it work with Chromecast? That's the only reason why I want to get one.
Just an fyi for anyone looking at this thread or the OP this is now available after the chromecast update yesterday
I didn't realise this was supposed to be working with the n7 2012, bit it worked for me this evening! Anyone else?
Chromecast Mirroring support didn't work for me on my Nexus 7 2012 that I upgraded to 4.4.4 last night. It does work on my Note 3 phone however and works well.
The google support page says that it has support for the Nexus 7 2013 version though. I don't know anyone that has one though to see if that is true.
The Wireless Display/Cast Screen under Display Settings is MiraCast only. I just tried it with my Chromecast and it doesn't work. You can only mirror your screen to Chromecast by using the latest Chromecast app.
On some devices, screen mirroring is disabled in the Chromecast app, but you can use this app here to enable it
