Community,
I would really appreciate some help with my S4 WiFi issue which is killing me for about 8 weeks. I have tried like everything i could find on the internet, but i cant find a solution that works for me. Time to hookup in the XDA and hoping for that one magic trick. I'm a little experienced and really no moaner or lazy technician, but i can't find any solution. Things i have tried:
- Battery removal while the phone is on.
- Slapping the phone on the backside.
- Reseating WiFi cable after removing the grey back from the phone.
- Editing build.prop
- Editing/removing WPA-SUPLLICANT file.
- Factory reset.
- Numerous of other ROMS.
- Uploaded the new Modem file, nothing worked.
- Tried to downgrade to 4.3, but it seems once your on 4.4.2, there is no way back.
- Disabling WiFi in Service Mode.
- Tried the "WiFi Fixer" App.
None of them seem to work in my case. Any suggestions you guys have to help a brother out?
Try to do a factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache partition via a recovery and then flash the official rom again (obviously the flashing part is done with odin).
Hope this helps, let me know if not.

Did this before, except the Dalvik cache, since i don't have the option in the recovery menu. Yes the flashing is done with Odin. Any idea how to get rid of the Dalvik cache another way?

Hi mate ,
What rom do you have , stock or custom ?
I see you tried a lot of things , Wifi is kernel controlled what kernel you have , did you tried a different kernel?
when you said "Disabling WiFi in Service Mode." you mean using the dial code *#0011#?

I'm currently using i9505XXUGNG2, but i have tried NK4 and NJ8 just to remember some of them. Tried around 20 different ones, but none of them work. The NK4 worked for like 5 minutes, but then i came back to the same old %!#@$. Download are all from samfirmware, so i think they are stock? I have used customs roms in the past, when i owned a S3, but can't find any ones i can flash with Odin for S4. Should i try with an custom rom? And you know where to find them?

Well in principle the stock rom should be better , unmanipulated if you will , if the problem is present wit a stock rom is most likely it will be present in a custom rom
When it first showed this problem? , similar problems happen when you have a bootloader / modem mismatch
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50787570&postcount=2549
when using custom kernels sometimes too but if you are stock that is not the case
You could try a different modem ( check page 1 of the post i gave you) , also did you try switching the power save mode of the wifi off (*#0011#)??

That is from a stock rom.
After all you have done and if you tried different roms I start to believe it may be hardware related, i was going to suggest to try a different kernel but in a way you already had .....
When the problem first showed up? , if you scan for wifi networks can you see then? what happen when you try to connect? you said when you had NK4 it worked for five minutes.....did you try it again and see if it works again even if only for 5 minutes??

I can't enable WiFi. By drop down and through settings. What happens is that the WiFi button lights up, like it's trying to enable the WiFi card, but fails after a couple of seconds, no error code is displayed. Scan is greyed out. I have got it working on NK4 for 5 minutes yes, and then it broke again. Already tried the exactly same rom again, but no success.
The problem showed up couple of weeks ago. Not directly after the upgrade to 4.4.2. But after a couple of days after the upgrade through OTA.

In case you might suspects it is an hardware issue, i might let it resolve by the Samsung store in my city, since it still has warranty.

Hi guys.
What should I do, if my major function of the phone doesn't work?
When I try to call somebody, phone hangs (can't see even screen with options of the call), but it is actually calling.
It's weird to have this not working at all.
Tried reinstalling rom, installing other roms. Still the same. I did format to everything what's on my phone.
Help!

You need to give more information than that inorder for us to help you , are you using 4.3 custom/stock ? check youre baseband version, and check what kind of bootloader do you have (To check your bootloader go to download mode and if you have a KNOX WARRANTY VOID then you are having the new bootloader.

Oh I'm sorry.
Now I'm using Phoenix V.7 rom. It is 4.3 touchwiz rom. I tried other roms also (4.4.2 - 4.4 - 4.3 - 4.2)
My baseband version is XXUEMK8 (today I thought about modem problem, so I installed XXUEMK8 instead od XXUEMKF, which is recommended for Phoenix rom. The same on both modems) New bootloader.

Ok so I flashed everything I could've flashed every modem, every firmware, tried all the Wifi fix out there, custom roms, kernels everything for a week I flashed almost 6 hours a day. I managed to get my Wifi fix by using Triangle Away from Chainfire from here. I am currently on MJ7 but I guess it works on other firmwares as well. Just install apk and reset flash counter(root access needed). I honestly can't believe I fixed it, I was convinced it was a hardware problem. Donate to Chainfire if this helped you !

Update: not permanent fix. After I mess around with the phone Wifi shuts down by itself. But if I leave the phone a alone wifi stays on even 12 hours. Since then I managed to fix it also by flashing repeatedtly Cf auto root or using triangle away( like after 20 times once , once after 3 times). This is the only fix that works for me, also if I try to flash modems or wifi fixes some time wifi turns off right after flashing some times not. Any idea on how to keep it on for longer time? I think it might be hardware at this point what do you guys think? Why does it get fixed only by triangle away and auto root ? What happens then? Pls help!

You can try this:
To make wifi work when it wont turn on or connect, change this in the build.prop:
ro.securestorage.support=true
TO
ro.securestorage.support=false
Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297379
Hope it works for you.

Thanks man for your reply! Already tried changing build.prop, also tried a lot of wifi fixes most of the kernels I could get my hands on. My only fix that has ever worked was cf auto root and triangle away and this after using them some times even 30 times in a row. My question is what exactly happens in the process of cf auto root and triangle Away that sometimes restores the wifi, so I can pinpoint the issue! Thanks for taking the time to reply!
Hello guys, after I flashed a custom rom my phone went into a bootloop. I decided to flash stock , via odin. After I flashed the stock rom for my region (open european) I got many FC messages , the phone was unusable.
I started digging and flashing roms. Now I have i9505xxugng8 which is a nordic country rom.
When I try to open wifi , the button gets green for one second but then it stays deactivated.
1. Tried to remove battery
2.Tried to delete the wpa_supplicant.conf file from /data/misc/wifi or /system/etc/wifi
3.Tried the non-hos bin.
Nothing worked. I'm desperate.

I also have this problem. Went from CM11 to stock (GF was supposed to use the phone and preferred stock...).
And now, no wifi, tried most things, checked build.prop, deleted wpa_supplicant, pulled battery, cleared cache.
Nothing works.
I'd be ok with going back to CM11, but the S-View cover won't work with it.
Any more ideas?

I don't think this is your problem, but just to put this out there in case other people stumble upon the thread....
This can be caused by using a custom kernel in a CM11 based ROM that was built after about August 3rd (give or take a few days)
CM changed the way the Wifi and data are managed by the kernel. So older customer kernels aren't compatible.

Hello
I'm comming from jellybean and i just did an update with odin to lollipop. I've 2 problems.
1: the wifi is greyed out and i can't turn it on.
2: I can't open the playstore and i can't add my google account in the account setting. I'm getting this message : google play services has stopped.
I did a clean flash ( wiped all data and restored to factory setting. I flashed the original lollipop rom now for the second time and thats not helping.
Does any one now a solution for this?

Hi, thank you for the reply. I did some work on the device and flashed CM 12.1 via TWRP. Wifi worked good in it but I missed S Pen & S health (S Pen Helper Add-On wasn't good in CM 12.1). Hence, i searched about downgrading to 4.4 KitKat only to get back wifi and Stylus both. I have been partially successful in my effort i.e. I have flashed BTU firmware 4.4. and got the Stylus back but wifi problem persists. The wifi button simply does not turn on. It's different from the problem most people face regarding not scanning particular router or forgetting passwords etc. I am just trying to explain so that you guide me to the specific solution. I have tried short code *#0011# and turned OFF power save mode too but it didn't fix either. I liked the CM 12.1 but the trade off with Stylus was not in my favour therefore I had to revert to Stock ROM. So the current state of my device is shown in screenshots attached. Please help!

Tried both the applications. Even rooted my phone for the second app to give it access but nothing worked. IMO these apps can only fix when the wifi button is green but the internet connectivity got some issues like resolving DNS etc. In my case, the wifi button stays grey always. It turns dull green when i tap it and goes back to grey again. From the settings menu, when I swipe the wifi icon right to turn it on, it freezes for a while and gets back to left. I can still use Wifi with Custom ROM like CM 12.1 but I can't compromise the S Pen functionality which is why I returned to Stock ROM. In Stock ROM, Data Network & Bluetooth etc. are working fine. It's just the wifi which won't Turn On at all.

Wifi sudddenly broken?
I have been using AICP nightlies and everything has been great.... I was looking around in MiXplorer and dropped my phone (pressing many buttons catching it) and now my wifi will not turn on... at first my data wasn't connected either but then I flashed the http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=11326 and l got my LTE back but still my wifi will not turn on... . Oh yeah, and it says "Google play services error" persistently... I've I also wiped dalvik cache, cache, system and restored the system i had backed up w/ TWRP . No luck. I tried dirty flashing the newest release for hltespr which was the 20150925 from today with GAPPS-LP and no luck.... Whatever I hit in MiXplorer really effed some stuff up I suppose.. I have a full backup I can flash but it was over a week ago and I will lose a bunch of work..... Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue w/out formatting and completely wiping and starting over? If I have to go back a week or two it will truly be detrimental. Thanks in advance to any kind sir who will accept this mission!!!:fingers-crossed:
