[Q] Phone wont charge when battery dies - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

So basically the issue is that if the phones battery dies, the battery will not be allowed to get enough charge to boot the OS. What happens is when I plug the phone in after it dies it begins to charge for a few seconds, then "Safestrap is disabled" shows up and tries to boot to the OS then the phone shuts off. I cannot go into recovery either. If I press the power button again the same thing happens. So, basically safestrap is not allowing the battery to get enough juice before the phone boots. The only way to remedy this is to put the phone into download mode and let it charge for a while. This is annoying because I need to plug the phone into a computer every time the phone dies. Anyway around this? I'm running Pure Nexus 4.4.4 and safestrap 3.75. Thanks!

Plug it in while it's off, hold power, wait for it to vibrate. Then remove the cable, but don't plug it back in until the Galaxy splash comes up. It should be able to turn on off the little battery left and the charger, and then it will continue charging.

Ok, I will try that next time. Thanks!

Fix for dead hd2 winphone 7 fter battery discharge

Probably the wrong place but this forum is beyond navigation for newbies like me...
if you have let your battery run dry and can no longer charge and get into your win7 hd2, here's how I did it...remove sim and sd card, plug charger in, it will boot and charge again... worked for me...
I'll make sure to keep this in mind, if it works! I'll make an edit to announce my results when that unfortunate day comes.
Pulling the battery out and sticking it back in works too.

Nope, that only works if you still have charge left in battery. removing and putting it back in also unlocks it because if you power on phone with USB in it locks for some reason. Well mine does anyway.
If your battery is completley dead then you have no choice (atm) to either charge the battery externally with a dock or by using a USB cable with end cut off (red wire to positive/black to negative).

Yes. That's what I also do many times. Never fails
No need to pull out your micro sd, it might cause your rom corrupt. Be careful!
Here's What works for me
Remove the battery .. put it back ... keep the down volume key pressed n press the power key ... THE phone will be on recovery screen... plug THE usb in .. leave it like this for like 15 mins n now reboot . It will be recharged just enuff to power the phone on ... keep the usb plugged and it will start rechaging ...
None of these tricks worked for me, and I didn't want to cut my usb cable...
But I solved the problem with dual boot. Now I can charge my hd2 when it's turned off, and I even have my battery able to charge up to 100%
I presume the phone will not charge if theres not enough power to enter WP7.
I thought the phone would charge by the USB power lead if its turned off.
I guess enter MAGLDR or the Tricolour screen will allow it to charge?

I've let my phone turn itself off twice since I've been on WP7 and pulling the battery has been enough to get it to boot up far enough to charge both times so maybe I've just been lucky or maybe the phone shuts down before it's completely discharged...
Oh man, this happened to me the other day. Battery died, phone wouldn't hold a charge. Freaked out!! But after some trial and error it worked.
Its not possible to charge the phone when its turned off?
This happened to me when I was still using WinMo. When I connected the phone to charger, it seemed dead (no led light), but after some time (I left it charging over night) it catched up and charged.
This is not possible with WP7? I wouldnt say, that MGDLR could change the way of charging when the phone is off.
keep an external charger for this problem. at least we can hope in the next update of the ROM will solve this problem
In my case, since I fall asleep while listen to music, in morning I wake up, phone already shutdown and can not boot. Even when I plug in, it boot to htc welcome then reboot.
I have tried to pull out the battery and put it back but nothing happen, my phone keep reboot.
So, I pull out the battery and charge with external charger (can charge battery only without phone). Then after 30min put it back then it works.
Thanks god. So be prepare an external charger because WP drain more power then we thought even with the warning 10%. I can not have enough power left for an over night.
This works for me.
This is known maglard issue. This steps works for me every time.
1. Remove battery and after few seconds place it back.
2. Connect your phone with PC through USB
3. Now enter bootloader by pressing Vol Down and Power buttons at same time.
4. Leave it connected for a few minutes.
5. Disconnect your phone from PC and remove battery for a few seconds.
6. Now place battery back and power up your phone.
7. You will start WP7 and now you can continue charging battery normaly.
MGDLR choose last option
it hapens to me and what i have done is in MGDLR I choose last option an it satart charging after some minutes you have to take out the baterry and reboot
it work for me
Happened to me this morning:
1) Took battery out, placed in cradle, put battery in, and held down 'POWER' whilst it booted to MAGLDR.
2) Selected USB Mass Storage Mode, waited for 10 minutes, pulled the battery out, whilst still in the cradle.
3) Re-inserted battery, allowed WP7 to boot, and orange light came on whilst booting, and started charging in WP7.
Thanks to all in this thread!
Nick
Tghe VOL DOWN + POWER works. Happened to me yesterday and after 10 minutes in tricolor I was able to boot.
Bootloader Charges Battery
VICTORY! I was frustrated, and pulling out the battery for a few seconds didn't help at all. Putting the phone in the bootloader (tricolor) screen for 10 minutes worked for me. Phone is back in WP7 and is charging.
No need to pull out battery just hold down power button boot to magdlr main menu leave charger in for 5 mins than boot wp7 (first option in menu) than shud work

Will not boot, powers down

Last night my battery completely drained so I charged it over night and when I went to power it on it says booting WPH go go go, boots to the HTC green logo screen and powers off. I have been running WP7 flawlessly for 3 weeks now and have not had this problem before. I don't really want to reflash right now because I'm hoping there's a way to salvage everything in the phone.
Are you sure the battery charged last night...reason I ask is...when it completely drains the battery wont charge when the phone is off due to Magldr.
Yeah, it's off the charger right now and it just keeps powering off after the HTC logo
same exact thing just happened to me. I'm going to start from scratch and redo it.
I am curious to know as to what caused this, it's very odd since the ROM has been working flawlessly.
your not restarting with usb cable attached are you?
how did you charge your battery? external charger?
there is some talk that charging in magldr usb flasher mode works dispite no status lights BUT its unclear if the battery controller will auto cut off when full, overcharging could shag your battery
oh a while back i had some odd restart issue too, pretty much as you have mentioned, happened 4 times in a row then worked
Help me too!!!
Me as well, about an hour ago, my battery drained, so I plugged it in, and the phone keeps restarting, but then powers off...
I've kept it on the AC for the past hour, and now it no longer hit's the magldr, it just flashes the screen black, then dies...
Is there a way to JUST CHARGE my battery? Without having it in the phone?
too bad you didnt seach for this issue, i wrote a nice piece that would have got you out of that mess if you hadnt kept restarting it, oh well never mind,
if you cant even get to magldr then your looking at an external charger, you could try connecting up an old usb cable directly to the battery but be very careful!
This happened to my old HD2 after I gave it to my sister once I got my HD7, to enable it to charge again all I did was remove cable, remove battery. Re-insert battery and attach cable, hold down the volume down button on the side of the handset and press the power button.
The phone will turn on and show the tri-color screen. Leave it on this screen for 20 minutes and the battery will charge, then simply reboot and you will be able to boot back in to Windows Phone 7.

Thanks for that tip...I am going to remember it in-case I one day run into the same problem

[Q] My Nexus 7 keeps turning on when I plug it in

So this is sort of a weird issue, and my tablet has only started doing this recently.
When the tablet completely runs out of juice I plug it in. For whatever reason when I plug it in it tries to start up - I get the Google screen, then the boot up animation, then I get my home screen. It's at 0% battery so a second or two after this happens it shuts itself down. Then it starts itself up again - Google screen, boot up animation, home screen, shut down. It continues to cycle like this as long as it's plugged in. And because it does this it never ends up charging. It just cycles endlessly.
I've tried holding down the power button while it's plugged in. It shuts off, then proceeds to start up again. I try unplugging it, shutting it off, then plugging it back in, and it tries to start up again. I never see the battery charging screen that's supposed to show when it's off but charging.
Sometimes I can get lucky and turn it off at just the right time to keep it from turning back on again, and I'll get the battery charging screen, but I haven't been able to this time around.
Anyone know why it insists on trying to start up when I plug it in? I'd actually rather it NEVER did this and have it turn on when I choose it to.

Normal Defy Battery Behaviour?

I recently acquired a Defy and immediately installed CM11 on it. My main phone is a Nexus 4 and one of its best features is that even if the battery is completely drained, if plugged into the wall charger it will immediately boot up. The iPhone I had before would show a low battery screen until it reached around 10%, at which point it would finally boot.
It seems that when the Defy battery drops below 15-20%, it will not boot at all - pressing the power button does nothing. I plug it into the mains and the usual white light does not show. It still seems to charge and I can eventually boot into recovery to see that power has reached around 20%. At this point if I disconnect from the charger the phone usually boots up. I haven't had it long enough to troubleshoot extensively but I think that while plugged into the wall it is less likely to boot successfully. An unsuccessful boot starts with the Motorola logo, then the screen goes black and the buttons flash once, at which point the boot fails.
Is this at all similar to the experiences of anyone else, or could it be a battery / firmware problem?
Thanks
Have you tried to remove battery, insert it again and then try to boot?
I had the same problem once, I'm on cm10.2. Maybe we should replace the battery, I always charge it before reaches 30%

Had the same issue on omni, flashed other rom at around 20 % to not run into this situation.
Try reconnecting power a few times, maybe you can put enough juice into the battery to boot right into twrp - that's where it might charge - did for others - and where you have to go anyway for a new rom.
I had a similar situation on the stock rom. I had battery but the phone shut down and wouldn't start. When I plugged the phone in it didn't show a charging light. I left the phone plugged in for a few minutes then simply held the power button for about a minute and it eventually booted. Good luck

Try to plug the power cable then firmly push (hold) the power button for 2 minutes. Sometimes this way the stucked phone turns on... Good luck!
