What Happens Is Who Wants Change rom But given case you want to return again kk not want to have any kind of problems ( modem and wifi) ... I can do ANY rom flash para xt1068 and return to the original sin no issue... SORRY THE ENGLISH
Sorry but from what i grasped from your post is that you want to update to another rom and want to return to stock kitkat. So you want to if there's going to be any problems with the Modem & Wifi?
If thats what you want to know.. Then you dont have to worry. There wont be any problems with the modem unless theres any bugs in the custom ROM.. @CarlosaAlzateP
Reply if you want more information..
As far as I know op, you can downgrade or update each of the following kernel, system, modem as per your liking and config, also I don't know what your point is but your kinda right you could update to lollipop while flashing a kitkat modem file (in theory,I used to do stuff like this on my z1)
Edit: still frame your posts better or not...

Hi,
I flash ROMs quite regularly but only the one's that seem stable to be used as daily drivers.. i'm not really in to experimenting etc. I've never had a problem with this and it all seems fairly straight forward,. However, one area that always concerned me was the modem.. I've fell foul on a couple of occasions where I've lost 3g/wifi etc and I just end up doing a restore of my nandriod backup i.e. the one i do right before any new flash.
Now I notice a few S5 flavoured ROM's which don't seem to include the modem and require it to be flashed seperately. I was wondering if it's possible to just make a backup of my existing (working) modem in isolation and reflash that when necessary. Is it that simple, or does the modem and rom somehow have a special relationship.. meaning flashing my current working modem isn't an option ?
Also, is there any apps that would do this for me - just back up the modem ?
FYI.. I'm currently using latest Google Play Edition by @Danvdh but tempted to give some of the S5 roms a go.
any info appreciated. cheers

Make a backup of your current rom incase you need a backup to return to ? I haven't changed modems at all since flashing (still mk9) & haven't had any problems ? That's just my input & I'm sure people will say I must have problems ie wifi or calls but no problem here
If you feel the need to upgrade your modem just d/l the modem you have now from samobile as a precaution then you can flash it again if you need it ?

I always back up my ROM before flashing.. but as I mentioned, the newer S5 based ROMs don;t include the modem so I want to know if there's a way I can backup my current modem (just the modem & nothing else), then I would just reflash that rather than having to hunt down a modem which may or may not work for me

Not that I'm aware of
hi guys,
so i did the mistake and i flashed the china lollipop rom. i was pretty desperate and i thougt that i'm stock with it forever.
but, i figured it out and decided to share my experience and maybe save you time (and probably a heart attack ).
let's begin!
first of all, with this #%#^# rom flashed, tou CANNOT downgrade back to kitkat. i'm no expert, but i did a big research and found nothing. if you do find anything, please share with us
secondly, if I tryed and flash above any other rom, the call sound was bad. wich lead us to the next problem - you cannot flash a modem (trust me, i tryed ALOT) without loosing your baseband, IMEI and signal - in other words, you lost the all idea of a cell phone! great..
for those of you who lost the baseband and IMEI, the only solution that i found was to re-flash all of the chinees rom files.
so, what do you do if you want to change the rom, but like me you get bad call quality?
here's what i did-
thank goodnes, AL-IRAQI uploaded the russian version of lollipop, wich you can find here.
now for all of those who wonders, don't worry, you will not lose IMEI and baseband.
after i flashed the russian version, i flashed the PRISM BARBONE rom (again- AL-IRAQI:angel and the call quality is perfect! so i get to live happily ever after
there is however one last thing that i don't know (because i didn't try) - are we able to flash a modem now that we are based on the russian loillipop? if any of you have information about that, please be kind and share it with the rest of us.
hopefully you find this usefull
Hi im a bit of a noob when it comes too this flashing business but i managed to update my i9505 to lollipop using odin and the official stock rom but the problem i have now is my network signal is now terrible where it was good before is ther anyway that a noob like me can fix this issue? Im in uk on giffgaff (o2)
i have never rooted my s4 before and if some one has a noob guide for rooting from lollipop so i can custom rom it up i might give that a look too, I wouldnt mind a nice slim custom rom with a few extra tweeks and without all the google and samsung rubbish that comes standard..
Thanks
P.s sorry for all the questions and sorry if this is in the wrong section
The signal problem is probably caused by the modem.
You have to flash the latest modem for your phone, country and carrier.
If you already are on the latest modem then a lollipop modem might help.
Here you can find a guide on how to root lollipop.
If you want a slim rom you better try CM12 or GPE. If you like touchwiz then look for a touchwiz based lollipop rom around the forum.

Is your phone branded or unlocked? Coz this is very important. UK(O2) still without lollipop update. This is the possible reason that you are receiving weak network signal.

Hi everyone,
just a long-time forum-lurker in the dark here, now I'm here asking for help to restore my galaxy s4.
Here's the story:
gt-i9505 no brand, italian official firmware 4.4.4 (kitkat), never updated, only used towelroot to gain rood adn unistall couple of unused apps.
everything worked fine
Then i decided to upgrade to lollipop.
downloaded last samsung lollipop rom for my phone from sammobile, made a full backup via TWRP Recovery, and installed lollipop via Odin.
Then the nightmare begun :
1st problem, no modem, no connection, only wifi, i restored EFS, still not working, reinstalled modem via odin and then i got my imei and connection again.
2) think i've tried to change the rom to a custom downloaded here (i don't even remember the name), then i tried couple other roms.
this as far as i remember
Now the phone has a samsung original lollipop rom, wifi won't turn on, data not working, knox status is obviously altered (so i cannot restore it via kies or whatever the software name is now) BUT It overheats a lot after few minutes and i'm forced to shut it off to not damage it.
I'd like to restore it to a full working condition, i think i've messed up with bootloaders, modems and roms from different android versions.
can anyone help ?
Current status is

Hey, @dokrobei
Take a look on my Guide.
You need the guide clean install from the scratch. Please read it carefully till the end. There avaible links with all necessary stuff like modem/bootloaders/stock rom-firmware/recommend customs roms etc.
Hi @Retrial, thanks for the answer..
I've managed to reinstall stock KitKat 4.4.2 and working modem drivers, following another tutorial here. Now Wi-Fi, 3g and bt works fine, BUT the phone overheats a lot. It's not a battery problem and sure it's software related 'cause it wasn't like this before my stupid first attempt to upgrade to lollipop.
I've searched the forum for the overtheating near the flash zone problem, some say that is a microsd problem (wich I removed), some other that's a battery problem (wich is not in my case).
Do you think I should start from scratch again following your guide? IHow do I know wich modem / bootloader is right for my phone? I think the problem is there, maybe wrong modem version..

First of all there is no need to still be on KitKat...a lot of apps don't support Kitkat nowdays...and is outdated.
I will recommend first to proper upgrade to Lollipop stock and then use some of the latest android Pie Custom JDC Roms by following my complete guide. As I said above there is a full guide with links and very well explained steps. The latest Firmware for our S4 i9505 is QK1 - No matter which country you will choose, and it's recommened to have the latest. Just read it carefully till the end and check the asterisks.
The overheating it may be no compatible Modem/Bootloader since you messed up with Lollipop. To check what Modem and Bootloder you can simply install "Device HW Info" or "Phone Info" app and check.
Let me know how it goes, and if you have any question or problem feel free to ask. Good Luck :fingers-crossed:

After every flash the device become hot. Let the rom settle for a while.
If you have PK2 Firmware then you need PK2 Modem and Bootloader. So no, don't try other modem/bootloader.

I flashed it last night and checked if it was working this morning. I'm sure the high temps are not related to the usage or to the battery. It become hot eachtime i turn on wifi. Havent tried with data but I think it will be the same thing.
Hi everyone,
I flashed the last avaible eXistence rom, US version. I've got a battery drain caused by QcrilOemhookMsgTunnel. Searching for this WL I learned that is related to de modem. I am having a poop signal strenght by my career indeed.
Can you tell me if and how I can install the correct modem? I never done this and I need to understand more about risks and methode to install/flash it.
Thank you in advance!
Download your current android firmware from XperiaFirm... Flash it using flash tool.. On the exclude place... Tick everything except modem.. And flash it.. Android version must be same..
