Hi everyone, long time reader, first time threader. I've been reading alot about the Nexus One and without going into a ****load of detail, as you all know, the forums do attract alot of negative reviews, only because, obviously, the masses of people out there who are happy with their shiny new handset are sitting back, playing with their gadget, probably laughing at the world.
My phone arrives tomorrow, so I thought it would be interesting to start a thread that everyone can post their positive, satisfied testimonials in. If this thread fails I will take that as a fail over all.
Nothing negative here, if you're happy with your new Nexus let everyone know here. Over 9,000 pages.

Mine is awesome. I have none of the issues everyone is talking about. In particular, I like the battery life compared to my last htc, and how easy it was to pair to my 3 cars.

As a mover from WinMo to the N1 I am very happy. I still have plenty of learning to do about Android and will root when I think the community has enough tools to make it really worth it, but my first impressions are that this is a good quality handset that feels good in the hand and is very responsive.
I have been using it for 10 days and wouldn't consider any of the small challenges I've had anything more than an ignorance of what Android is possible of.

I've been a long time iPhone (jailbroken) user and have just got into the Android scene with my Nexus One.
I must say,...I'm absolutely loving the device,..my 3GS feels dated in comparison! I'd still say the iPhone OS has more polish then the current iteration of Android 2.1, but know that won't be for too much longer.
Loving the Android community too!

I would like to say that I am very happy with the phone having played about with it for the last 3 days. It is everything I expected it to be and the more apps/widgets I add the more impressed I am with it.
Being a smart/internet phone it heavily relies on a good connection. On 3g/WIFI it is easily the best phone I have used and in terms of ease of use and speed it matches the iphone.
I had to set up the APN settings after I got the phone and ever since then the connection has been fine. Please note that on GPRS the speed is not that great - which is not a fault of the phone.
It surpasses the iphone in terms of customizability and the fact that you can have a number of apps running at the same time without ANY slowing down! ON a Jail broken iphone everything bugged down due to multiple apps being used.
I only need a decent case now as it has slipped out of my hand several times due to its slick design!
Overall - very impressed, very happy, absolutely no regrets about not getting the iphone which was the only other alternative I was considering.

I went from having a G1 since February last year over to getting the nexus last monday (ordered it a couple of hours after the press conference). All i can say is... wow!!!
Well, actually i can say some more things ;-) This piece of aluminium and glass is lightning quick. It's slim, it has the best phone-screen that i have ever seen, Android 2.1 looks extremely nice (like what they replaced the drawer with). Not having physical buttons is no problem since it have tactile feedback (takes a couple of minutes to get used to but after that you don't really reflect over it).
My friend has the IXXXXX 3gs and we have compared web loading speed. Let me just say that the NE is always faster when it comes to loading the entire page. Sometimes it is twice as fast (we tried several urls of which neither of us had visited before - they were not cached). When you flipped the G1 over to the side, it sometimes took several seconds for the image to flip with it. On the NE it is instantanious.
As for the problems you guys have had with 3g->2g and back, i can't really say i've had these issues. Where i live (Sweden) it have worked rock solid since the beginning.
There exists one issue with the screen on the NE right now, but since is the praise-thread where we are all positive, i will save that for another thread

I've been a long time WinMo and Blackberry user here, and the N1 is my first Android device.
I'd have to say, I'm definitely impressed. The hardware is slick and fast, I've had absolutely no issues with the phone other people have had (except no 3g coverage when I'm at work, but life goes on). Pictures are good for a phone, everything is just nice.
Once an N1 with a hardware keyboard comes out, I'll give the current N1 to the boyfriend as he's smitten with it and -hates- hardware keyboard, whereas I have to have a device with a hardware keyboard (work-related, I send emails like a fiend).
It plays Pokemon Ruby perfectly. And...it just works.
On a positive note as well, yesterday in my office with had a Blackberry (Tour), WinMo (Imagio), WebOS (Pre), iPhone (3gs) and of course my Nexus One. iPhone, WinMo and Blackberry users were aaall jealous (especially the iPhone user). The Pre guy likes it a lot as well, but not quite smitten.

Again - I have absolutely no complains about the nexus at all. It is the device that I have been waiting for so long, and it does not disappoint in any way. Had it for 2 weeks now and still can't stop playing with it. Can't think of any other bit of tech where the novelty hasn't worn off after a couple of days
So I received the phone 10 hours ago, and only let it out of my hand because I had to go to the toilet and eat.
Its fantastic.

1 week old for me, moved from a Symbian. This is much better. Sorted out the sync process for my emails and calender (from Outlook - I love the fact I don't need to connect the phone to my PC to sync, I know it may well be days before I need to turn the PC on with this phone). No manufacture issues. Lots of looks from iphone droids (incl my gf!). Loads of Apps.
Can't wait for flash, because when that arrive, there will be no beating this sweet bit of kit - oh yes, and the price, for a SIM free, £360 delivered (subject to possible VAT) is an awesome price!
I can't praise this enough! I simply see it as a HTC with a google ad/logo on it!! Nothing wrong with that in my eyes.

Well I mean it just does everything my myTouch 3G did except better, and that's really what I wanted
I use mine on the toilet! (I know; that is grody.) It is that hard to part from the phone. I'm coming from a rooted G1 that I spent a lot of time playing around with.
In comparison to the iPhone, Android + Nexus One hardware makes it far superior. Not saying the iPhone isn't a great piece of hardware in its own respect, I just think the marketing that went behind it has implanted the idea that it is the most superior phone out there. To me, the Nexus One has disproved that. I can actually have a phone with a background (live wallpapers, FTW) and not populated with a bunch of squares (widgets, FTW). I can actually view all my notifications and have quick access to them via simple swipe of the notification bar.
I use text-to-speech on this phone as I did on my G1. SayMyName is quite useful (despite some bugs on the N1, it reads the contact number not the name). On my G1, SayMyName would slow my calls down and it would ring 4-5 times before actually giving me a chance to pick up. Not so much on the N1. It is instant.
Camera takes nice pictures. Navigation works great (used it on the G1, but should be same on the N1, just faster). The screen is pretty, very pretty. Simply put, this phone is awesome!
I apologize for my ramblings; I've been getting a lot of flak from iPhone users. I hope everyone enjoys their Nexus One as much as I do.
I've used WinMo devices for the past five years or so (Since O2 XDA). Latest one was a HTC Touch Diamond.
I've been using my Nexus One now for a week and it never stops to amaze me. I thought my Touch Diamond was pretty neat, but compared to the speed and ease-of-use of Android on this blazingly fast N1... it's just awesome. And (unlike my Touch Diamond) it doesn't need soft resets three times a day....
Mine is really awesome. I have none of the issues some are talking about. In particular, I like the Speed, UI, Design, Flexability, Customizing, etc...Did I mention Fast
Got mine ~4 hours ago. After reading through these forums the past day to see what problems I might expect, the only issue I saw, but was prepared for, was one edge of the screen wasn't sealed. Turned the hairdryer on it for ~30 seconds, pressed down and the screen stuck. No dust was under the screen straight out of the plastic protector. No 3G swapping issues (T-Mobile).
Impressive piece of kit, especially coming from a Dash where some keys weren't working and sound quality had gone to crap.
Compared to my wife's MyTouch 3G, the Android keyboard is waaaay easier to get keys on the outer edge to register. It usually takes me a few tries on the wife's, but the N1 keys register on the first try.
Very happy ~4 hours in.
Had it around a week and a half now. Absolutely love it! After spending so many years with WinMo I can't describe the difference. Such a great piece of hardware too.
So I'm sitting at home patiently waiting for the UPS man to come with my new Vibrant. In my pocket is my beloved Nexus One.
I had a chance to play with a vibrant in a Tmo store and really liked it. Seemed speedier than my N1 in almost every aspect and that screen is just gorgeous!
I'd like to hear from any Nexus One users that jumped ship to the Vibrant. Are you happy with your decision? Any issues?
I'll be side by siding these two beasts for the next 14 days (return period). And only one will stay with me. I'd just like to hear some other peoples experiences.
I find the Vibrant better in every regard. The one thing I miss is how speedy development came to the N1 (for obvious reasons). I (and the developers) are more accustom to HTC phones...
BUT, speed, screen, sound, keyboard, I really like everything better.
Some people complain about a GPS issue, that a lot of us do not have.....
You wont have froyo immediately....
I like how solid the N1 feels in my hand....
those are about the only things I can think of.
I sold my rooted nexus one for this.
The good:
Better screen (WOW) you'll see
Better Speaker
Faster Data Pulling (you'll be surprised how good edge is even )
Better widgets (touchwiz is lovely)
The bad:
doesn't open apps as fast as Nexus
Switching from 3g to Edge takes way longer than the nexus
Battery a tiny bit worse than nexus
Feels horrible compared to the nexus build (the vibrant is cheaply built) PLASTIC
going from screen to screen, you will get a slight jerk... not smooth like launcherpro/ADW or 2.2 Froyo default home
Other than that, this phone is lovely and its a keeper. I'm waiting for a replacement battery. maybe the 3500Mah they had for the nexus one.That will also put some weight on it. it's like a feather now.
I too sold my N1. I did for all the aforementioned reasons plus I really like being able to take the phone instore for warranty issues instead of waiting a week or two for htc to get my phone fix it and ship it back.....
The battery specs on the Vibrant seem WAY better than the N1, but I've been seeing some complaints on battery life. Whats the deal with that? Was Samsung overexerting the standby time?
I'll miss froyo, But once it hits the vibrant I assume it will be BLAZING fast with JIT on the hummingbird. Besides the speed, Flash in the browser kinda sucks anyways on N1 (slow!). So going back to 2.1 wont be a huge loss.
I love my nexus, but its had its issues. I'm currently on my 3rd swap out from HTC due to the screen not working and dust under the digitizer. Hoping I have good luck with the vibrant and its GPS issues.
I guess I'll have to wait and see which wins... I plan on keeping both for a couple of weeks before I decide.

I beg to differ.. its user preference, I prefer it being lightweight its a lot different than the G1 whereas it feels like a brick. I don't think its a con whatsoever, doesn't feel cheap at all.. check out the videos where they try and "scratch" and damage it. The phone could take a hit.
Just got the Vibrant today, bought the Nexus on the day it was announced. I'm likely sending the Vibrant back and keeping the Nexus. Here are my first impressions:
1: Unbelievably light and, unfortunately, cheap feeling, particularly the buttons (Vol. and on/off). The build quality of the Nexus One feels like it's in an entirely different league here.
2: Nice screen size though my phone will not display a true white or grey. Instead, everything has a cyan/blue tinge. This actually is my biggest issue with the phone right now. The Nexus gives true whites and greys and, even with the brightness all the way up, no true white or gray on the vibrant. Menus, text, market and web pages show this every time I open them - it's driving me nuts.
3: The music app contains a real to life Equalizer and a number of other sound settings. This is one feature I really love and will miss if I send the phone back. Sound quality is very good, though not through the crap headphones Samsung provides. Here again, the quality of the Nexus headphones are noticeably better.
4: Neither the Compass or the GPS work correctly on my phone making the phone useless until a fix is released for what I actually use it most for - Google Places and voice navigation.
5: The image quality of photo's taken with the camera are very good for a phone. Auto weight balance works perfectly under various light sources. Much better than Nexus in this department, though I do miss the flash - which I used mostly as a flashlight!
6: The size feels a little uncomfortable in the hand compared to the Nexus but that's likely just something I have gotten used to.
7: Battery life seems like it will be much better than Nexus.
Anyway, I know the GPS and Compass will be fixed and perhaps I could get used to the flimsy build quality but the screen is a deal breaker as I expected it to be superior to the Nexus One. It's not. If I had to guess, I suspect Samsung has used some sort of Polarizing film to reduce glare outside in bright light which is resulting in the blue/cyan tinge.
Sold my Nexus and both docks, got a nice chunk if change and got the Vibrant. Its the best phone out right now IMO.

PERSONALLY I don't equate light-weight with cheap...it's very VERY light weight, but it doesn't feel cheaply made to me. The biggest complaint I have about the build quality personally is the "metal" bezel(of course it's plastic). I feel like that will scratch if it's looked at incorrectly. lol. But IMO it doesn't feel cheaply made at all

This is a problem only SOME units have, and additionally, even if yours DOES have the problem, there's a fix for it here in the forums

I think this depends on the size of your hands. Going from a Touch Pro2 with a 3.6" screen to a 4.3" on the HD2 I didn't like it. It was hard to text on when trying to reach across the screen...but this 4" screen fit perfectly into my hands. It also makes it feel more like a "phone" and not a "pda". I know the Nexus has a 3.7" screen, but like he said, I think you'd get used to it.
7: Battery life seems like it will be much better than Nexus.
Trust me....depends on what you have running and when you have it running lol. This thing will randomly start apps that you never tell it to start(telenav for example) and they'll run in the background for no reason at all lol. I've had situations where with ZERO use....it just sitting idle....after 8 hrs it used up almost 50% of the battery. Darker(blacker) backgrounds help on battery life too. I tested a live wall paper at 100% brightness for 30 mins and a completely black wallpaper at 100% brightness and there was a 100% increase of battery life drain. 4% after 1 half hour vs 2% after 1 half hour(i actually think the same would apply to the nexus one since it's an amoled screen)

As he stated at the end though, the GPS will soon be fixed(officially that is) by Samsung, and you'll probably have to get used to the feel of it vs the Nexus 1...but I had an opportunity to buy either, and I used both for 1 day, and couldn't put the Vibrant down so I went with it.
Edit: and though not as good as an LED light, because the Vibrant uses SAMOLED the white screens at full brightness are ridiculously bright lol. So if you use one of the screen flash light apps, it'd probably be the brightest...but again, it's not as bright as an LED flash light. But Trust me...it definitely works lol

The screen on the specific Vibrant I received is nowhere near as bright as the Nexus screen, even at full brightness and the cyan/blue tinge is not so subtle. Many are stating that the blue look is normal with OLED's yet neither my Nexus nor my wife's have this problem at all. There is also growing evidence that the Vibrant display is not consistant from phone to phone, with some reporting the blue issue more than others, even when examining four vibrants simultaneously (so this is not just subjective). Thus, don't buy the whole explanation that Samsung added mor blue to counteract future blue degradation over time. I think what those of us with extremely tinged blue screens are experiencing is a quality control issue, plain and simple - perhaps it has something to do with an inconsistency in the SOLED manufacturing process, I don't know. I do know that all OLED's do not have this issue and, apparently, not even all Samsung SOLED Vibrants!
Regarding the "cheap" feel, my volume button rattles when I handle the phone and has no definite "detent" feel. Perhaps mine is unique, but this definitely lends a flimsy feel to the phone, particularly compared to the firm feel of the Nexus buttons. Think I wil return this vibrant and see what a replacement offers as I must have received a dud. To be fair, the Nexus my wife received initially had to be returned due to a quality control issue. I think most of these devices today are at the bleeding edge of manufacturing technology.
I got rid of my 3 week old N1 for the Vibrant, and I have no regrets at all. I'm very much in love with this phone. I think the only major issue with the phone for most is the GPS problems, but Samsung already said they're working on a fix.
Yeah, the phone is very light weight, but as soon as I bought the thick gel case from T-Mo it really did add a great weight to the phone.
I'm a phone whore that switches phones pretty much every time a new phone hits the market, and I've gotta say the Vibrant just might be the best I've ever owned.
I sort of gave up my Nexus One for a Vibrant. My wife wanted my Nexus One because T-Mobile still doesn't have a good phone for photographs (Vibrant included).
I had just gotten her a MT3G Slide, so I trade it back to them for the Vibrant.
So far, the only thing I have to complain about is the lack of a Camera flash, it completely hinders the camera in most lighting situations after 6PM EST, haha.
Also, the body does feel cheaply constructed. The Nexus One had the most solid design of any phone I have ever owned or held in my hand.
I miss my N1, but the Vibrant is a GREAT alternative. I can say I love this phone, and most of that love is coming from the BEAUTIFUL screen.
I had a Nexus, and my wife had a MyTouch. She was wanting to upgrade, so we decided that I would get a Vibrant, and she would get my Nexus. We have since given away the MyTouch.
I have to say, at first, I was LOVING my Vibrant! it was incredible! The screen, and benchmarks spoke for themselves! Heck, I was even able to ditch a couple of mediocre apps for the pre-installed apps!
I've had my Vibrant for...17 days now. I've NEVER had any luck with the GPS, although it is handy for a game called "The Great Land Grab", since I can now buy land in states and countries I've never even been to before! (I bought a piece of land in CHINA!!! WOOT!) I've tried ALL of the fixes posted here at XDA and elsewhere. All of them seemed to help, but then I realized it was mostly a placebo effect. "742 people said this fix worked perfectly! It's gotta fix my GPS! Hey, it only took 17 minutes this time! YAY! It's all better!" Coming from a long line of HTC phones (G1, MyTouch, Nexus), I've come to expect good GPS performance, and I use maps and nav a LOT. (Well, I used to) I'm extremely disappointed in this, to the point that I will never buy another Samsung phone again.
The screen is AMAZING! The picture quality is intense, and it displays video so fluidly! I can't say enough good things about how beautiful it is! The screen difference is .4 inches, but it looks and feels like it's HUGE in comparison. I've never seen a screen on a cell phone that can show as deep black as this. If you set your phone up poroperly, you can have it on, but not be able to tell (ADW.Launcher/black wallpaper/no status bar/no icons/empty dock/dock open - Looks amazing!) It's such a nice display!
The phone SHOULD be WAY faster. the specs make the Nexus look old and dated. Of course, when you're used to touching an app shortcut, and it just HAPPENS, a 2-10 second lag seems like FOREVER! There are some MAJOR design flaws in the Vibrant, such as the 16 gig internal storage. It's a class 6, yes, but it's got VERY serious i/o issues, so almost everything that calls on the resources on it stalls and lags. (You'll see TONS of people who say there's no lag, but most of those people came from a dated phone, like a G1 or MyTouch. It's WAY faster than any of the older generation 1 or generation 2 phones, but it's painfully slow when you're used to the powerhouse known as Nexus. (2 seconds doesn't sound long, until you're trying to show off your phone, and you feel the need to explain that "it takes a second or two to load up, but when it does..." and you have TIME to explain that to someone while you wait. It's not nearly as snappy or responsive as it should be, considering this is a flagship device with specs to make most phones look like crap. SUPPOSEDLY, this phone is more powerful than a PSP, but the design flaws make it perform more like an NES. Once it gets going, it's GREAT, but it's the getting it up and running that sucks.
The phone does feel lighter, and cheaper, but it depends on your point of view if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I personally prefer the feel of the Nexus, because it feels more solid.
The loudspeaker on the Vibrant is WAY better than the speaker on the Nexus, although I have to think it something to do with the "hollow-ish" phone back echoing the sound, and therefore amplifying it somewhat, but I haven't tried a direct comparison with the phone backs off.
The Vibrant out-performs most phones on the market in terms of benchmark scores (linpak not included) however, if you were to perform a side-by side comparison of getting those benchmarks loaded up, you would likely have no doubt that the Vibrant is considerably slower. (I'm talking of the latest generation of 1ghz phones, like Nexus, DroidX, and EVO)
If the GPS (and compass, which is HOPELESSLY broken) and lag issues could be resolved, I think the Vibrant could be a contender as possibly the best phone on the planet, but in it's current form, it feels a lot like that funky cousin you try to avoid at family reunions. "Well, he came from a great family, and he's really smart, but he's just a bit off...I mean, look at him, he's pouring his soda into his shoes!"
Overall, I think in it's current state, the Vibrant can't hold a candle to the Nexus, and depending on the I/O issues, it may NEVER compare, but if they can get it running better, and make everything WORK, it will make the Nexus feel like a G1.
My choice for best phone: Nexus

You sound like a PR rep for samsung, not an actual end user. It's comments and sentiments like these that make forums useless for researching products. Too many people bitterly rationalizing bad purchases.
As an owner of a Vibrant I'm probably returning mine, after waiting the full 14 days to see if Samsung would at least indicate that they're working on any sort of fix. They finally started talking about the GPS, but there is no mention of the compass problem yet and I suspect it will remain broken.
The sick part is there are so many people new to android that they don't even realize how broken the compass is. Try using Layar, wikitude, anything related to augmented reality or positional awareness and you'll realize how useless it is.
If you don't care about fancy augmented reality/positional awareness applications or GPS working properly then the vibrant is a great phone.

Just out of curiosity, are the GPS and Compass interrelated somehow such that a GPS fix would fix the compass? OR, is there distinct hardware functions that control the two independently?

Last I heard, they think the compass is what breaks the gps, according to Tmo and Samsung. Which worries me, because a compass is just a floating magnet. If it's hardware broken, and that's what breaks gps, there may be NO way to fix it. ):

my GPS works fine.....I dont use compass and never did. Gave my Nexus to GF and using Vibrant. While there are many improvement to be made, its MUCH better then Nexus when it was released (I had 3 replacements, all 3 had: 3g issues, light sensor issues, pink camera, and crappy touchscreen....phone was almost useless, but after 3rd party ROMs, Nexus became a good phone with many flaws fixed)
yeah, compass seems to be ****ed, just checked. will compare to Nexus today. ps. navigation-wise I checked both and they seemed to perform the same.
read that compass is software issue and should be fixed. i think its fair to say that we ALL need to give Samsung a chance to fix issues. so far there was no update to Vibrant and it WILL come end of September....maybe October....
and its gonna be a pretty damn big update, not only we get fixes for bugs and possibly more add-ons (features) to Touchwiz, we are also getting a Froyo !

I've had my Vibrant for...17 days now. Coming from a long line of HTC phones (G1, MyTouch, Nexus), I've come to expect good GPS performance, and I use maps and nav a LOT. (Well, I used to) I'm extremely disappointed in this, to the point that I will never buy another Samsung phone again.
The screen is AMAZING! The picture quality is intense, and it displays video so fluidly! I can't say enough good things about how beautiful it is! The screen difference is .4 inches, but it looks and feels like it's HUGE in comparison. I've never seen a screen on a cell phone that can show as deep black as this. If you set your phone up poroperly, you can have it on, but not be able to tell (ADW.Launcher/black wallpaper/no status bar/no icons/empty dock/dock open - Looks amazing!) It's such a nice display!
The phone SHOULD be WAY faster. the specs make the Nexus look old and dated. Of course, when you're used to touching an app shortcut, and it just HAPPENS, a 2-10 second lag seems like FOREVER! There are some MAJOR design flaws in the Vibrant, such as the 16 gig internal storage. It's a class 6, yes, but it's got VERY serious i/o issues, so almost everything that calls on the resources on it stalls and lags. (You'll see TONS of people who say there's no lag, but most of those people came from a dated phone, like a G1 or MyTouch. It's WAY faster than any of the older generation 1 or generation 2 phones, but it's painfully slow when you're used to the powerhouse known as Nexus. (2 seconds doesn't sound long, until you're trying to show off your phone, and you feel the need to explain that "it takes a second or two to load up, but when it does..." and you have TIME to explain that to someone while you wait. It's not nearly as snappy or responsive as it should be, considering this is a flagship device with specs to make most phones look like crap. SUPPOSEDLY, this phone is more powerful than a PSP, but the design flaws make it perform more like an NES. Once it gets going, it's GREAT, but it's the getting it up and running that sucks.
The phone does feel lighter, and cheaper, but it depends on your point of view if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I personally prefer the feel of the Nexus, because it feels more solid.
The loudspeaker on the Vibrant is WAY better than the speaker on the Nexus, although I have to think it something to do with the "hollow-ish" phone back echoing the sound, and therefore amplifying it somewhat, but I haven't tried a direct comparison with the phone backs off.
The Vibrant out-performs most phones on the market in terms of benchmark scores (linpak not included) however, if you were to perform a side-by side comparison of getting those benchmarks loaded up, you would likely have no doubt that the Vibrant is considerably slower. (I'm talking of the latest generation of 1ghz phones, like Nexus, DroidX, and EVO)
If the GPS (and compass, which is HOPELESSLY broken) and lag issues could be resolved, I think the Vibrant could be a contender as possibly the best phone on the planet, but in it's current form, it feels a lot like that funky cousin you try to avoid at family reunions. "Well, he came from a great family, and he's really smart, but he's just a bit off...I mean, look at him, he's pouring his soda into his shoes!"
Overall, I think in it's current state, the Vibrant can't hold a candle to the Nexus, and depending on the I/O issues, it may NEVER compare, but if they can get it running better, and make everything WORK, it will make the Nexus feel like a G1.
My choice for best phone: Nexus

I had the nexus, and already I've had more problems with the nexus than I did the Vibrant, it's by far faster and more usable. I LOVED my Nexus, but still..seeing all the things wrong with it I definitely like the Vibrant better. True multitouch, super crisp clear screen where even Avatar looks like you're watching it in stereoscopic 3D. Everything has been superb. The GPS problem is a given and I read up before I bought. Still more satisfied, an yes battery life is better as I could never get a "full" days use out of my Nexus even with everything turned off.
I want to know from expert guys who have bought S4 or those who have expert ideas about screen smearing or other issues with S4, kindly advise me should we buy S4 right now or should we wait, or should we consider iPhone5 which does it all in good way but just smaller display or even HTC One?

@usmanxhmed you can choose whatever you prefer. People here will bash you if you mention any iOS devices. But tbh I just switched to S4 and currently having yellow tint issues .. I believe my iPhone 4S's display is brighter and clearer than my current S4, only that it's smaller. You may want to wait.

If you consider to buy a Iphone 5 instead of the s4, better go with the One. Its closer in terms of fluidness, haptics, optics and display.

You're probably just too excited with your S4. I had an iPhone before the S4 and the screen is much brighter. Also, my S4 has a yellowish tint, which is not something i'm happy about. Oh and all those features by Samsung are gimmicks and useless, I turned them all off.
It's a good phone, don't get me wrong, but I hate how this forum is filled with fanboys defending it with everything. Phones DO have disadvantages whether you like it or not -.-
The screen is definitely brighter on my brothers iPhone 5, but most the time you have it on mid brightness anyway, otherwise the 1400mah battery will run out

@3473 Yeah a smaller battery and drains fast, but the screen does not disappoint imo. I always had my brightness on 80%. The thing is, I never noticed it until today, hence why I am annoyed by it so much. I realise it now every time I turn on my S4 :\

@NNIicckks This is my first samsung as well, hence why I'm disappointed. Can you hold your phone with an empty white screen to your laptop (both on full brightness) ? See if you can find yellow tint in yours.
Firstly i am not iFanboy, as i bashed all my life iPhones when i use to love Symbian, the likes of e52, which i bought 4 times in few years and i use to dislike Android as it stole the show and i use to laugh at iPhone as i thought it lacks basic features.
Then features made me switch to Android and i could never switch back to Symbian which i still love, but can't use as most of them you know why, thought i have an old Nokia 5630 for emergencies like now.
Used few Xperias, Desires, Galaxy and the last one i sold was HTC One x About 40 days ago to get decent money out of it just to save money for S4.
Then S4 was so dam late after its announcement, i could not wait, i bought brand new black iPhone 5 just to try iOS for the first time in life, to see why girls, and people like girls like iPhone so much, mainly i evaluated in past because it just do most things, and it does in fairly better way.
When i bought it, i liked iPhone5 screen, not just the brightness because i usually set brightness at 40 percent, to save batter, but the blacks, the colours and it was decent package.
I was surprised that you cannot change even SMS app in iPhone but little happy too that i could never decide which SMS app or which launcher i should use with Android, i was happy there is no home screen in iPhone as i was always nervous to use any widgets on Android due to poor batteries of all android phones.
I was sad that you cannot block calls, you cannot record calls and you have to pay for paid Apps unlike in Android, in which i use to find Apps from net and manually install them. i decided not to jailbreak iPhone because i bought it for ease of use and not to mess, so i given up in whatsapp being paid and start using viber.
then i found it iPhones bezal is prone to scratch like a fire in jungle, softwares were beautiful and screen was too small i felt, though i bought to use for long term but due to those limiations i bought new iPhone 5 with good loss for S4 a week ago after using for 2 weeks.
Now i kept my savings back to buy S4, now guess what, screen, issue, over heating, battery drain? now i think did i made bad choice to sale iPhone, as it was doing most things good and plus its size was great to carry it around, if i could adjust with smaller screen thinking, little is big if little can do most big screens task, as i sold iPhone for big screen S4 plus normal android features like default softwares changing, hacked apps, sharing of songs/videos and larger screen to view web pages and videos and pictures.
Though iPhone screen was very good, i was fond of AMOLED sharp colours too and deep blacks.
Now nobody knows whats the situation of S4 in Pakistan, i called the retailer he says he has no clue about about smearing, what it is, means he is not sure if its there or not, so i am left to spend all my savings to buy this fun and see if my luck is good or bad.
Another thing that let me down is no response from Samsung, i think they taking success as granted just as Nokia did and see its condition now, My beloved Nokia too took success by granted an stayed in past glory, by feeding ancient generation slow CPU when the world was moving to dual cores, they thought we are Nokia we can do whatever we want.
Now samsung is silent, no official response, are they this careless about consumer or worried about 10M pre orders?
now i am here without a smart phone? how can i buy S4 when i am not sure if my unit will have issue or not.
For HTC One X lovers, Metal is good, but prone to scratches and dents more than plastic, so you have to put silicon cover, metal gone and phone becomes fatter, but fine, its ok to bear it, but power switch is not fine? it must be pain for me? HTC in years every reviewer bashed your power button placement, and you are not willing to learn, this time put even farther.
Screem is better but why smaller? battery is nice and again smaller as was the case in S3 and One x? why HTC has to do these compromises is beyond me?
But the two things that is putting One off for me is power button placement, hello i have to use second hand every time? and batter concerns?

Have to agree. I don't have or notice any of the screen issues folks are going on about. Compared to my HTC Evo 4G LTE, the whites might not be quite as bright at times, but the colors are so much better and the screen is very easy to see and use, even in full sunlight. I guess the screen comes down to personal preference in the end, but I sure would not let any minor issues like that have been reported stop you from trying it. It's not perfect, but I'm really enjoying mine so far after a week of using it.
Hovering affect is waist, so as air gestures? they are not reliable plus they will drain battery plus they will slower the phone, plus they make the OS heavy plus simply touching the screen is more assured? and if you have to show these off, then i should not take your advice.
You can talk about benefits of larger screen, more sharing options and other useless features, please not gimmiks, thanks.
I wanted S4 to be automatic choice for me, but a phone with unreliable screen?

No dear i am not isheep, actually i was symbian fan, when it died i went to android, used many android phones, i was waiting for S4 after selling HTC One x, but it was getting long wait, so i bought new iPhone 5, liked it, but had small screen and lack of sharing features so i tempted to sale it again for S4 as i thought it is automatic choice, but now after these issues i am confused

Well a personal question, you are not forced to answer, but why your wife has 2 iPhones any ways? is one not enough?
and few people don't have free brain and free time to waist on custom roms or all that stuff, they just want to use phone and after using iPhone i know its limitations and strengths now.
Plus, man take it easy, dont enforce your thoughts on others, and dont think what ever you think is absolute right for everyone, every one as different needs and brains, hence different preference for phones.
So if you tell phone one is good and phone too is crap, i will sit back and feel sorry and i will think you need time to be mature in life.
You should say my favourite phones has these benefits which other phone is not having, thats better

Well dude, perfect is nothing, not iPhones scratch prone premium body, not HTC One bigger body with smaller screen as compare to S4 or its power button position, but for the like of me, who is not that rich and he save some money to buy expensive phone, its not easy feeling to buy it when he reads all this up here?

I understand. All I can tell you is that after using mine for a week, I don't find ANY display issues at all with my S4. I think there is just a mountain being made of a mole hill, personally.
BTW, some of the "gimmicks" are useful. Like the hover thing. In certain apps, it's kind of like hovering your mouse over a thread header in this forum and getting a preview of the thread.
The issues aren't that significant and they don't make the device unusable. Apart from these tolerable display issues, the device is amazing. Perfect audio quality, great battery life, thin and light.
iPhone 5 is also a great device. Yes, the display is small but it has great contrast and accurate colors. Just know that there will be things that you could easily do on Android but can't on iOS.
I didn't get a chance to use HTC One, so I can't comment on that one.

How you can't even use proper grammar and still feel the right to insult someone else's smartphone choice is beyond me.
I have had my t-mobile note 3 for 2 days now and I have to say its nice, but its not so much nicer than my note 2 that I need to pay 708$ The s pen sensitivity is pretty crappy on the bottom half of the screen and the build quality seems pretty cheap to me. Its constantly popping or creaking as I type or just handle it. Dont get me wrong, its a nice phone.....I was just curious if there were any other note 2 owners out there thinking about taking it back before the 14 days is up.
I paid $300 for my AT&T version, so I'm not as far in the hole as you, but I'm loving this phone

Maybe you have a defective device? I played with the AT&T's floor model and found the spen extremely responsive. also I didn't get the whole popping/creaking feel to it. If you like it enough try to return it for another, if not then return it for your cash and grab your GN2 and put her back to work

I am going to keep it a few more days, like I said its a really nice phone but its not substantially nicer than the note 2, I dont think its enough to justify the rather HEFTY price. At least not for me. 95% sure its going back.

At over 7bills I can't blame you. I would have to be 110% happy with it to keep it.
My only real concern is the regional lock that is the subject of many posts here at XDA.
I have not experienced any of the problems you mention and it seems silky smooth and fast compared with my Note 2. There are some software glitches that I'm sure will be sorted out soon but the increased performance, better display, 32 GB, wireless ac and increased internal memory means I will be keeping mine.
I will still be keeping my eye on the forthcoming Nexus 5 and HTC One Max but neither are likely to have a microsd slot and a removable battery.
If something better comes along, I'm pretty sure there will be a good second hand value on the Note3 anyway.

Mine is pretty smooth as well, one of my complaints with the note 2 is gallery load time. I have picassa and dropbox synced in gallery and it takes forever to load. I figured the note three would not have this issue because of the difference in specs but it still does, not to the extent of the note 2 but it still has some chop to it. Also whenever I am sending a text and another text is coming in it will have the slightest delay, again way better than the 2 but still present, which also is a bit of a bummer.
I'm considering returning mine before the 14 day window is up, especially if a root solution isn't found soon (AT&T). I think I'll end up waiting for the Nexus to be released and then decide which I'd rather have.

I constantly watch movies, play games, and torrent just about everything in the world :laugh:. Thats the whole reason I'm going with the Note 3. I'm tired of lugging a tablet around to the Car Detailers, Work, When I'm at my sons school waiting for him, doctors office (only if my wife is there so I can stash it away in her purse), anywhere that I have down time pretty much lol

Did you come from a note 2? I never root my phones, I used to....used custom roms...but every single time that something really cool was happening and I needed the camera or just anything really the Fu*&ing phone would freeze and or not work and need a restart. Just gave up on custom, now I just disable the crap I dont use and press on LOL

I constantly watch movies, play games, and torrent just about everything in the world :laugh:. Thats the whole reason I'm going with the Note 3. I'm tired of lugging a tablet around to the Car Detailers, Work, When I'm at my sons school waiting for him, doctors office (only if my wife is there so I can stash it away in her purse), anywhere that I have down time pretty much lol

I cant tell any difference on Netflix, however high resolution movies that I have put on there look fantastic. I too torrent just about everything, the Utorrent app and pirate bay browser work quite well on it, just fyi.
I came from a VZ Note 2. I am on T-Mobile now for the Note 3. I just received my second Note 3 today, and the build quality far surpasses the first one I received. No gaps between the bezel and screen, plus the home button isn't super loose. This one was for another family member, but after seeing the discrepancies, I called T-Mo for a replacement for my first Note 3. That one should be here Tuesday. For the price I think Samsung should have some better QC. I hope I get lucky with the replacement or I'm keeping this well built Note 3 I got today, I paid for it...
Note 2 was excellent, but I am bored with it. Pure and simple. I use my phone a ton and it is always with me. If I am going to splurge on one thing, it might as well be my phone.
I got my N3 yesterday and have spent a full day setting it up exactly like my N2 it's replacing. I'm a heavy productivity user and actually buy Note's for all their s/w features. I have 131 apps installed on my device and have about 10 push(ish) syncs going at all times. I'm kind of a power user.
The N3 runs circles around the N2 in every conceivable way. I'll post a full comparison in the N2 vs. N3 thread after I've used the N3 for a few days the way I previously used the N2.
Here's some early observations:
You can use S Voice while the phone's locked. So with the phone sitting on my desk I can have it open the dialer, e-mail, messaging, or contacts by voice so it's ready to use when I pick it up.
Bluetooth audio output is friggin amazing. The N2 was significantly better than my ex-One X but the N3's separation, clarity, and depth played over my high-end(ish) car audio system is so superior as to make it seem as if I was listening to "mono" audio before.
The capacitive buttons working with the stylus is almost worth the price of the upgrade. And the N3 is the first device I've ever used that finally allows you to use voice commands (Google Now, S Voice) while connected via A2DP. I have no idea why it was so hard previously but that and 100% interface control with the stylus is enough for me never to look back at the N2.
The multiple page lock screens are pretty cool too. It's amazing how much you can control and access without having to unlock the phone.
Going from the N3's display back to the N2 makes the latter's look downright cloudy and dingy. Auto brightness on the N3 is significantly brighter than the N2's as is max brightness. Reading the display in bright sun is a joy. It helps that Samsung finally moved away from black and teal for their stock apps.
Battery life is impressive; far better than the N2's and charging speed is remarkable.
The rectangular shape with a flat textured back makes it so much easier to hold; especially in landscape. And the speaker everyone's been *****ing about is plenty loud and even louder than the N2's in certain situations because being bottom (vs. rear) mounted ensures it won't be covered up if you lay it flat or hold it in your left hand vertically or right hand horizontally. The N2 feels a generation behind the N3 physically when you move back to it from the N3. The N3 feels like a serious mobile device where the "designed by nature" ovoid shape of N2 seems a bit tired in comparison. But obviously that' subjective.
There's no discernible lag even with all the crap I have loaded on my N3 where the N2 stuttered occasionally (not its fault; mine).
To each their own but I'm pretty shocked at how much more advanced the N3 is over the N2 in pretty much every area I care about. My Gear arrives Monday so I’ll have even more kit to play with.
As for people like OP, I don't know what to say. I think people have different expectations based on how much they use their device to accomplish. To plays some games, browse, listen to music, and update social it doesn't really matter what high-end device you use because they'll all be competemt. I use my devices hard and can't imagine anything coming close to the N3. And I loved my N2 and said the same thing about it but it's totally eclipsed by the N3.
Came from Sprint Note 2. Um... Not really a big difference. BUT.... I like new gadgets. If I didn't feel as if I had to have the N3 I would have stuck with the note 2. Very expensive phone and accessories make it hard to stomach..I agree.

I ended up selling mine and getting the HTC Butterfly S. Overall I didn't care for touchwiz and it's hardware button layout. I just really wasn't feeling the phone. I'm back using my Nexus 4 until my Butterfly arrives and I still prefer the N4 over my time with the Note 3. I think I will stay clear of all future Samsung devices.
Ehh to each it's own. I'm coming from a note 2 and a iPhone 5s, so I'm literally in love with this thing.

Hi folks. I've been on a T-mobile Note 4 for a long time now, and love it- no problems yet and an 8000 maH battery keeping me quite happy.
Thinking forward to buying a new phone soon. Lots of new stuff coming out soon, but the V20 still looks attractive to me (being able to get a 10,000 maH zerolemon battery is a BIG factor). IR blaster and SD card availability is big to me too.
Couple of questions:
1) Thinking about what's coming out, and having lived with the V20, would you wait for what's coming out this spring, or even sit back until the "V30"?
2) I love taking pictures with the Note 4, and they turn out well. Low light, well, not so much. Flowers on a sunny day are great. Are you happy with the main and selfie cameras, or do you find yourself wanting "just a bit more" (for the average user... I'm not a full time amateur photographer).
Your comments would be much appreciated. I just retired, so I have more time to play with things these days- so I'm sure I'll be using the next beast I buy extensively especially for reading, nice photos, and the ir remote (oh, I got a great e-z chair for tv time ).

I like my V20 but unfortunately I do not "love" it like I did with my OG Motorola Nexus 6.
The stock battery is utter crap and I am on my 2nd LG battery after having to recall the 1st one. The 2nd one greatly improved but not by much. Rooting this phone has saved me from returning it. If it wasn't for Root I would of returned the phone.
1. Other than the G6 or the S8 coming out - what other phones are coming out (T-Mobile Wise)? Nothing right now seems to give me that "wow" factor like the Pure Android experience from the Nexus 6 did (yes, as you can tell, I loved that phone) The Pixel phones are a complete joke to me...horrible design....
2. The camera is okay for an average user. I do find myself liking the fact I have two lenses to choose from. Wide angle and normal angle. Very helpful in the Security field that I am in. But be warned the pictures are not amazing like Samsung devices.
If I were you, kinda wish I was right now. I would wait for the Note 8!
But other than that the 2nd Screen is incredibly helpful, to me. The removable battery and SD card is a great addition. The IR Blaster is cool but I do not use it at all. I have enough "Universal" remotes. LG's UI is pretty neat I like it a lot better than Samsungs ugly TouchWiz UI.
To each their own, I suppose.
I think the phone is awesome, the smart phone market has peaked advancements aren't going to be as neat as they used to be.
The snapdragon 820 is about 3 times faster than the 805 in your note 4 (assuming you've got the snapdragon variant).
The camera is snappier than the note 4 and takes pretty good photos (better than the note 4).
If you like the stylus though I'd wait it out 6 months for the note 8.
It's a worthy upgrade and it'll probably be a phone that would carry you through two years if not longer.

Absolutely the best phone I've ever had.
Very well built, great reception, zero lag, large screen....and I have to disagree about the battery. I've had nothing but FANTASTIC life, and this is with two different batteries, one just for backup just in case. Fast charging works great...volume is perfect, removable battery, rootable and TWRP-able...honestly, I wouldn't even think about "upgrading" from this phone right now. Samsung who?
I came from the note 4 also. This phone is much faster (no Lag). I didn't think there was any lag with my note until I got this phone. With that said, I am rooted with a custom rom and that did speed things up a little. My note was also rooted with a very nice custom rom.
When the note 7 came out, the were a lot of people on XDA saying they wished there was a flat screen version, i.e. not the curved screen. You can bet the note 8 will have a curved screen which makes finding quality screen protection tough. The v20 does have slight curving at the top and bottom, but people here have found tempered glass solutions that work.
You can also bet the note 8 won't have a removable back, so replacing the back plate with a bigger battery and cover won't be an option.
The camera takes very good pictures and if you understand the options in manual, you can really optimize it. Is it as good as the note 8 will be? No.
Sammy screens are also the best looking. The V20 screen while it has the specs, just doesn't look as good as a sammy. If you use a kernel with kcal support, you can get close.

I also came from a Note 4.
I personally never used the stylus for anything except taking screen grabs. I fount it easier than remembering the button combo for a screenshot.
My gps stopped working due to a known defect in the note 4. I broke the display trying to take it apart to fix it.
I love my V20 so much more than my note 3 or 4 or 7 even.
I won't buy note 8 as like all Samsungs -
1. The sound will most likely be horrible.
2. You probably will never be able to root it.
3. As nice as the amoled looks - everyone I've owned as well as my wifes, bil's, sisters all suffer bad screen burn in.
4. If they force that curved edge screen again. I hated that on the Note 7.
I'm done with Sammy. LG V20 is the best I've ever had so far
I also came from the Note 4. I got the s7 edge which i gave to my wife. The buttons(or lack of) take a little getting used to, but the ability to root determined my buying the V20 and I think it is on par with my note feature wise(minus stylus\plus FM radio) just faster and maybe a bit lighter. If Note 8 is rootable, i might jump but i doubt it. I could keep this phone for awhile.

Another perk with LG is that the amount of garbage software that it comes with is minimal when compared to Samsung. I know the note 3 and note 4 were filled with Samsung garbage apps.
The other consideration is there is no know so warranty shouldn't be a issue since there is no knox switch that gets flipped when you root it, you can (in most cases) reverse the rooting without any problems.
Of course I turned in my v10 rooted and they didn't even care (T-Mobile) so I am not sure if this is a real issue with warranty or not.
I say go for it, its going to beat the note 4 in just about everything. The only perk for the note 4 is the amoled display which saves quite a bit of battery. Of course you can always get aftermarket battery packs to off set it with the LG v20.
The v20 battery life is much improved over the v10, I typically have about 30 percent battery by the end of the day (this is with spotify and Bluetooth running during the work day).

I really do like it a lot, although it had to grow on me a little bit. In term of pictures, I think it takes rather nice pictures (at least for me). The wide angle lens is pretty cool too. My note 5 broke so this is why I have this phone. The second screen is really useful and I like that it doesn't have a notification light. The screen is nice and big for reading also. I don't use the IR blaster at all so i can't really tell you what its like.

The v20 is OK but my note 7 was far superior. Better camera, screen, battery life, only thing the v20 had over the note 7 was the DAC. Personally I would wait until newer phones comes out. I'm looking FWD to the note 8.

As someone who have had a wide variety of samsungs and LG .... I believe i will be keeping this phone for at least 4 years easily. There are just not way too many cons and there are way to many pros. The battery can sometime be a pain but that's just like any other phone since nothing last forever. But hey, the dozen mode!!! OUTSTANDING! my V20 consumes 1% of battery in 8 hours with screen off and 2nd screen on. so, it might not last more than 5:30-50's+ hours with screen on, full brightness, wifi on, gps on, and a video in 1440p. But,,,, as far as dozen mode goes.... It is outstanding! And if the promotion stills on, you can get the phone for 600+ instead of the 800+ by exchanging any 4g crap phone ($19 dollars at walmart should do lol). Im happy with the phone (sometimes pictures if zoomed in can look like waterpaint style but it doesnt happen that often (At least to me)). And as far as waiting for the V30 or note 8 ... Well, that is truly up to you. However, if you are hoping for root , there is just not guarantee given the fact that they are truly patching up every door from nougat 7.0 and up. So... you could wait for the V30 or note 8 but if you wish for root or developments.... i dont recommend to buy them before someone finds the way to root it.
I was one of the ones that was coming from an S6 edge instead of something newer, so obviously it's a bigger upgrade for me than it was for most others. I am pretty happy with the camera. I miss having the double-tap home button from the Samsung for the camera launch, but that's about it. I took it with me to Colorado and took some quite lovely pictures in the sunshine. Most people will concede that the low light performance leaves some to be desired, but I usually don't take any in conditions that are that bad, where that I would complain afterwards. I kind of figure that in sub-optimal conditions, I'll have sub-optimal results.
My battery seems to be quite fine, BUT, I'm also rooted and running a debloated ROM (the US996 stock deodexed, on my 995 Verizon model). The battery under whatever kernel it's running, is quite fine, and it is removable for people needing more length. I wish it had wireless charging, but that's just how it is. But for example, 8 hours on standby, and I was still at well over 75% today at work. And I can usually get through a good 3 hours of straight video playback at least. But the way people use their phones varies so much, it's hard to say. I do get better life rooted than when it was stock.
It also is plenty snappy, and I've had no issues, no overheating, no weird battery drain, no lag, or the like. I would say that coming from what you have now, it might be a step up but you might feel it won't be a big enough one yet. But the LG G6 being rumored out might be worth holding out, assuming you aren't looking to root. That might get tricky as Nougat (mentioned above) starts getting locked down. I have faith in the community - after all, it didn't take long for the V20 to get opened up, though there are some that worry that it'll continue to get harder as exploits get patched.
For what it's worth, I love mine. I miss a couple weird tricks from other phones, but on the whole, I am very satisfied with my decision.

Random FYI... Double press down volume when screen is off opens camera. (options in settings to open and immediately take pic or just open)
I figure you already know and just miss the convenience of the home button location but... Just in case...

Yup, there is that one. But it's also a little more awkward that way. It's just as easy to double-tap the screen and swipe into the camera app. The home key on the Samsung was perfect, because I could bring the phone to landscape orientation, double tap, and bam, ready to go. It's rare that I need to get a picture THAT fast that I need to, but it was really convenient.
I love almost everything about it, but If this thing had a brighter or amoled screen I would never get another phone.

Do not bring AMOLED INTO IPS!!! Every single phone i had with AMOLED screen (10 to be precise), all of them developed burn in image. LOL I will never buy another phone with AMOLED screen. Unless..... They A) fix the issue with the burn in image, and B) they manage to make it last at its full potential for at least 5 years and then after 5 years the pixels can start dying. Not to mention that many of the AMOLED screens from nowadays have removed soooooooo many important features in a phone such as removable battery and sd card slots. That alone makes me move within an instant to LG G or V series (AKA Large Giraffe as some people call it LOL)

Hahaha Yeah it would have to be a revised version of that hardware. I just find that the screen is way too dim outside. I even used that adaptive display mod which does help, but washes out the colors.
I literally just went from a note 4 to v20 and its amazing. The phone is so much more intuitive . tap screen to wake .fingerprint scanner unlocks phone faster than I can swipe. So much more. All around it just works better. I feel like all Samsung phones are the same. Bc I've had only Sammy past 8 years. I love this v20
