LG G2 - Upgrade path? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am curious, what have others upgraded away from the LG G2? I have an upgrade ready from Verizon and while i like the G2, I am wondering if there is something better out there. I think the G3 has been out to long to make it a good upgrade.
Thanks,
Rich

[Q] Update for LG G2

hi guys i came from LG Optimus 2x section and as LG user i have a question in my mind that bother me to consider LG G2 as one of my choice, as some of you that doesn't know LG Optimus 2x only receive 2 updates in its era, in ICS we wait for almost 1 year to get it, as i understand its looks like 90% NVIDIAs fault because of its apple like rules, so LG Optimus 2x is dropped by LG and never look at it again
so my concern is, is LG will going to update/support LG G2 for at least 2 to 3 years and provide its sources, because it is Qualcomm i know its open source but its up to LG if they will release it. Are they provide on-time update or it will end up like LG Optimus 2x and other 2011 LG units?
my very concern is the update and sources needed by the developers
i know LG G2 is a superb phone and it is a phone that is complete package, another concern about camera shutter lag is it software that can be fix or hardware that cannot be fix?

The LG sources have been out for well over a month now, this isnt an issue, where the issue is is that there are several variants, off the top of my head I believe there are 7. 7! So yeah development is fragmented because of this. Also there are 3 camera Mods that take care of any issues you will have with the stock camera app. Theres not much else to say here. Everything else is subjective and opinion till we find out more.

Hopefully they learn from the Nexus about updates, nevertheless we have a solid Dev community to assist us if LG wants to abandon us, but its way too early to make those kind of judgements, we shall wait and see

LG G2 New Optimus UI

Hi Guys
I have seen many leaks of the new LG Optimus UI and it looks really nice and clean compared to the LG G2 current UI I was wondering what are the chances of this UI coming to the LG G2 do you think LG will give us an OTA update for this new UI after the LG G3 launches? I currently hate the UI and i am thinking of selling my G2 but if the UI gets updated i would definitely keep it. Interested in your thoughts. :fingers-crossed:
I belive it will eventually be released to G2 users but not for at least 3-6 months after G3 is released.
It would be silly to allow this to occur.
However, I am sure the community will extract the apk for it and allow us G2 users some early Xmas cheer
Thankyou for sharing your thoughts would be a great xmas present!

Once there is a system dump from the G3 I'm sure someone will make a theme you can flash.

Will LG give us 4.4.4 and beyond?

What do you guys think LG is doing? They bothered to do an update with some minor fixes and gave us knock code, but did not bother to bump us to 4.4.3. So do you guys think this is a good thing or a bad?
The way I see it is it could go two ways: Either LG is keeping us on 4.4.2 and fixing things here and there, or, jumping us straight to 4.4.4 or better (L).
What do you guys think? Anyone with insider knowledge?
I would say since the nexus 5 is so close to this phone hardware wise, doesn't that give us an advantage?

Well it's hard to say anything at this very moment. Nexus 4 and LG Optimus G are very similar - heck, almost identical, but it's still stuck on 4.1.2 (YES, 4.1.2) although 4.4.2 is planned for it.
Honestly LG is really good at keeping the new features from their older phones, but we will sure benefit from project volta IF Android L should come to the LG G2.
We also have to keep in mind that LG is sort of trying to catch a bigger market share and putting a lot of effort into their phones, so the lack of upgrades is likely to change.
I agree. Considering that google is pushing 4.4.4 to nexus 5 phones as we speak. I didn't know that about the N4 and optimus. Hmmm, it is really hard to tell. However, as you stated LG is really trying to get a leg up on the competition, and I think the G2 is still not dead and very much capable of bringing $ so no reason to abandon it now that the G3 is out... That's quite a leap from 4.1.2 to 4.4.2 Lol!!
Anxious to see what happens.

Well now the question is are we getting 4.4.4 or android L first...

How good is LG keeping up with the Android releases and how often does it update UX?

I have been a HTC lover for almost sever years (Desire HD --> ONE X --> M7 --> M9) and I've decided to go for my next phone. Although the U11 looks like an impressive phone, I'm still a bit hesitant to go for it. Next to G6 and S8, the U11 sure looks like an ancient phone (I'm not a big fan of shinny backs and the front view of the phone looks awful in my opinion).
Not a samsung admirer hence I would like to give the G6 a try, but my only worry is how much is LG dedicated towards releasing the android updates. I didn't have troubles with HTC and I am sure Samsung will take care of this too but not I'd like to know how much is LG committed towards this. I do like the vanilla android but I don't feel like getting into the rooting business anymore (I'm too old for that and can't keep up), so I'd be heavily relying on LG OTA updates. Also I hear that LG UX has immensely improved, but would like to know if you guys think that LG will keep updating it's own UX.
Thoughts and comments are welcome, as I'd be ordering my new phone today.
Just got the G6 a few weeks ago, and as a first time LG owner I was wondering the same, I'm sure others will give more informed opinions but from what I've read LG are quite good at keeping us up to date, I've had a UX and a patch update since I got the phone which is promising.

Only been using a V20 for almost 3 weeks and from what I've read here and the V20 forum I believe LG aren't quick, or even regular, with updates.
But maybe you've left it a bit late to be asking, hope you get more replies soon.
Edit: two conflicting replies already
I am probably going to answer my own question but surprisingly LG got the first Nougat update compared to all other phones out there. Source - http://www.androidauthority.com/android-oem-update-speed-743073/
Here there are, more ore less, the major updates received by the G-Series starting from the G2:
- G2: 4.4.2, 5.0.2
- G3: 5.0, 6.0
- G4: 6.0
- G5: 7.0
LG is pretty fast to release major updates, but it isn't for security patches.

The V20 was the first phone to be released with Nougat 7 out-of-the-box.
Not a lot has happened since then.
In my experience, LG has been quick with their updates. I believe my Sprint G5 was one of the first to get the Nougat update.
LG is usually first to update to newest Android versions (except Google's own phones offcorse).
G3 was the first OEM phone to get Lollipop update, G5 was first to get Nougat,...
We may not get the 7.1 update but I'm pretty sure they'll skip it because we'll be the first ones to get Android O (minus Google's phones).
I've had this phone for almost 2 weeks now and allready got 1 UX and 2 system updates so... They're really fast.
Really does depend? My G4 is fine for updates my G5 was more miss than hit!

LG V35 Root?

Is there any hope on the horizon of root , for the att v35? or atleast the ability to flash a debloated ROM?
Any ongoing projects in the works that I can keep up with or donate to?

Well, this is not the V35 forum. It's the V30 forum.
The LG V35 (Snapdragon 845/JudyP) is basically a G7 (Snapdragon 845/JudyN) which sort of looks like a V30 (Snapdragon 835/Joan). But really V35 (JudyP) has nothing to do with the V30/V30+/V30S (Joan) series.
To debloat the AT&T V35, you can cross flash the open market V35 KDZ (which is debloated) with the AT&T V35 -- like we do with the AT&T V30 (H931) and US998 V30. Theoretically this would also carrier unlock it.. I suggested that here in this thread, and was eventually told YES it would debloat it, but not carrier unlock it. He says he uses an Octopus box. However, due to the guy's first response, I still don't quite believe he knows what he's talking about. He only came up with that information after I called him out on his first answer.
Go read the thread...

We can all hope but nothing yet. Your best bet would be to keep up with LG g7 devrlopement as if they have a breakthrough it'll most likely work with our v35 or the v40.
