XT907 - Running the latest Carbon Nightly, Google Apps, freshly flashed from the old 4.0.4 via CM11. Things were smooth as silk, but I noticed when booting recovery, even before the flash, I have been experiencing moments of garbled screen when going into CWM Recovery. This issue is now persistent before the boot animation plays for a moment, and when turning the screen on, if done in rapid succession, it displays a moment as well. This is nothing more than an aesthetic irritation but I'd like my polished feel back. Does anyone have any handles on this particular issue? It's baffling me. I thought it might have to do with recovery but as far as I can tell that's a silly assumption to make. It's your average bars and colors screen garble and it's usually the same when it occurs. Any ideas or help on this would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone had this issue before or figured any ways to at least mitigate it's appearance?
It's worth mentioning my bootloader is unlocked, as well.
Update - I've identified what's the cause of it. When I install Google App packages, like the PAGApps package, or any of the generic packages it happens regardless of the ROM, provided it's a 4.4 based ROM and apps. Any one have any ideas?
I had that issue with a few ROMs on JBBL. What Gapps are you using? I've had no issues with PA Gapps Mini

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out why my phone keeps rebooting. I've tried stock 4.1.1, stock 4.2.2, pacman, carbon, CM10.1, aokp and they all seem to reboot. The reboots are pretty random but I can pretty much always get it to reboot within 30 minutes if I'm playing some sort of audio or video. Also when I turn my screen on (from sleep) it flashes this weird screen (see attached image).

could be a ROM/Kernel pairing. have you tried wiping system/data/internal storage - reboot recovery, then flashing a new ROM?
the static screen is common on custom 4.2.2 ROMs, but it's usually a quick flash. I don't get any random reboots though.
I've tried many different rom's along with the Vanquishkitties kernal but still random reboots
I noticed my phone acting weird, specifically it would not play any audio, I noticed this because when I was in the dialer it was going really slow. Then I tried to play some notifications and none worked. I rebooted my phone and all seemed ok, I've attached two logs the first one being while audio would not work and the second after the reboot. I'm not really sure what to look for in the logs but thought someone here might.
This might be something...
E/AudioStreamOutALSA( 300): pcm_write returned error -5, trying to recover
Or this, just a warning though...
W/AudioTrack( 692): obtainBuffer timed out (is the CPU pegged?) 0x63d72108 name=0x6user=00001000, server=00000000

Just noticed that when in the dialer and the phone starts working very slow, if I turn the sound all the way off, the phone becomes responsive
two more logcats for anyone interested in helping this time one is when trying to use google voice actions, I actually get an error message that says can't open microphone and the other is when someone called me and I did not have any ringtone but I answered and I could not hear them and they could not hear me, shortly after my phone rebooted, I did not catch the reboot in the logcat.
Also when it reboots it doesn't reboot all the way it boots to the boot logo screen and then hangs and I have to hold all three buttons until it reboots again, is there a way to get it to just reboot on its own?
After the reboot everything seems to be fine until I experience the same issues again
Which ROM are you on right now? That sounds like a kernel level issue

I'm currently using CARBON-JB-NIGHTLY-20130712-0020 and kernel [email protected]
but i've experienced this issue with every ROM / kernel i've tried even the stock ones.

Has your issue been resolved? I am almost facing the same issues of random rebooting with my phone and was searching for a solution....
Did anyone ever find a fix for this?
Stock rooted 4.1.2 with some frozen bloatware and a GSM-specific build.prop file. I get several random reboots per day. Has upgrading to KK fixed this for anyone?

Im having this issue and Im on kitkat.
Hi. I'm having wifi issues with my Nexus. It started after flashing MIUI. I was using TWRP to flash, it took a while for the google logo to disappear and to get to the Xiaomi bootlogo. After it finally booted, the wifi was stuck to "turning on", but never ultimately firing up(couldn't get it to turn on nor off, even having turning it off). I've also noticed that I have the same EXACT issue with CyanogenMod. I completely returned to stock, i've relocked the bootloader and everything. I tried CM installer today and i'm rooted again with CM, but still I have the same exact issues as before. I don't have these issues with some other roms such as stock, official Omnirom and such, i wouldn't think it would be exactly a hardware issue, since it works just fine with certain roms. Would anyone have an idea why my phone is having this issue? It wasn't always this way. Specifically, I haven't been having issues with 4.4 roms. Does anyone think it could be something related to bootloader, or something?

i have a similar problem... i rooted my nexus and flashed a custom rom (PACman) when it boots wifi is disabled, also bluetooth doesnt work neither any sounds, no music, no speaker, nothing, so i flashed Paranoid android (both based on 4.3) and i had the same problem
so then i flashed stock, everything ok, then CrDroid (based en 4.4) everything ok, then OmniRom (Based on 4.4) everything ok too...
i posted it here and got no replies, hope someone could help
Yes, right now I'm running an unofficial CM 11, and no issues. I wonder if something needs to be downgraded, in order for things to be okay again. I would still like the option to be able to run 4.2/4.3 based roms. Maybe I could try flashing to stock 4.2 or 4.3, then reroot, and test my results

What radio/baseband version are you using?
Hi, I'm using AOKP last nightly builds and since 2013-10-18 Wi-Fi started to stuck, settings ui errors and other problems. So I just tried franko kernel with official AOKP releases and Wi-Fi now is working fine. But i've faced skype problems). After 4 minutes it hangs and i need to restart my phone.
Hi everyone! I have a hardware related issue here.
I have replaced the screen (+digitizer in a whole) and since then it is randomly going off and on. Interestingly it even did the same in recovery (TWRP 2.3) BUT not with every software! Installing the TWRP 2.6 or above stopped it happening in the recovery.
I have tried various ROMs so far. The Eclipse ver3 did not flicker, but it has a problem with the registering on a network here in the UK. Stock + stock based ROM (Rage 1.2) are also switching on-off. I am currently looking for a working ROM.
Please let me know if someone with the same problem can find one.
Also tried to play with developer options like Disable HW overlays or Force GPU rendering with no effect.
I wonder if it is a different hardware version of the replacement screen or what else can it be? (screen came from etradesupply)
Update - problem solved
Good news. Installing CyanogenMOD 11 solved the screen flashing issues and everything seems to work right. Thank you developers!
Hi everyone,
Until recently I've been using a KitKat based ROM and I was pretty OK with how my NOTE 3 SM-9005 was performing. However, a few days ago I decided to try a Lollipop based ROM and the problems started. I had similar problems with 3 different ROMs with great reviews. My battery went, for example, from 100% to 15% in ONE HOUR while streaming from YouTube. It never did that before. Also, It sometimes gives a "system stopped responding" error or something like that (it's like the equivalent of explorer.exe crashing on Windows) and after a few seconds it starts working again. Other system apps crash as well every now and then and sometimes the phone just decides to restart by itself.
I initially used Philz recovery and after the initial errors I switched to TWRP and started from scratch. I completely wiped my system internal space before flashing and, of course, I wiped dalvik cache and cache before and after flashing the ROM. I only used recommended gapps. Also, I did not restore any system apps. I started from scratch after the installation and the problem is the same.
To be more exact, I tries flashing so far the following ROMS, experiencing more or less the same problems on each:
temasek's UNOFFICIAL CM12.1
AryaMod V5.4 TW Lollipop Official BOB6
BlissPop 3.5 Unofficial
I also tried the Dirty Unicorns v9.4 ROM from the Original Android Development section but this one went on a reboot loop initially after the first restart so it never really even installed.
At this point I believe I might have done something that I should't have, but it seems strange because this is not the first time I am flashing a new ROM and I never had problems in the past. Also, my NOTE 3 SM-9500 did not have any problem on my previous KitKat ROM. Did I miss something? Should I have used another kernel? If I understood correctly, the ROMs come with a recommended kernel already. If this is not the problem, what could it be? Should I have done any additional thing before flashing a Lolipop ROM after using a KitKat ROM?
I now installed an app for trying to find out what exactly drains my battery but this is not the only problem. The system itself is really unstable.
I would really appreciate some help, suggestions, or opinions. I really don't know what else should I be doing at this point.
Thanks a lot!
Apparently is the media server eating all that battery (currently 68%).
I will format the SD card hoping this fixes the issue.....but could this have something to do with the system error and, sometimes, restarts?
Well I really don't know what to say! A lot of people report battery problems on 5.0 just because they didn't wipe the phone while coming from KK! But you did, so that's no go. Battery life on LP is much better than KK for me, at least 20% better if not more. And I didn't face any system crashing issues either! Don't really know what's going on with you mate.
Someone suggested that maybe I shoud update the bootloader and modem to a Lollipop version but I really couldn't find any info on how to do that.
Formatting the SD card just slightly reduced the battery drain. The phone is still discharging like crazy. Any suggestion on how to update the bootloader and modem?
Thank you.
Hi all, I am new here. I was referred by a friend who knows more about this than I do. I think I understand how to get fastboot and TWRP, so that is taken care of already. Now the problem with my OP2 running OxygenOS latest version, everything stock, is that it freezes up after unlocking, and the whole phone is just terribly throttled at this slow speed for a long time. All inputs are extremely delayed, and touchscreen is nearly unusable after the lag begins. There are so far two temporary fixes I found: 1) reboot phone 2)wait it out/keep unlocking until it doesn't lag. I also have been unable to make a copy of my internal storage via USB, as it gives unspecified error during copying. And lastly, the screen dims on its own sometimes at random while anything related to auto-brightness should be off. Fortunately, I was able to make a hard copy of my internal storage thru some wifi file manager apps. Now my friend pointed out that my phone's issues could be related to a bad kernel. To remedy this, he told me it would be good to flash a new kernel onto my phone. I considered changing roms to CM, but apparently a lot of functionality is lost when doing this. He told me that I could retain Oxygen OS while flashing a new kernel, but I am not sure how to do this. I came across a post in the android dev section regarding hydrogen os, and I read that it performs better than Oxygen OS, but has minor issues of its own. I am interested in flashing this rom/kernel (I am not sure which is which). Here is the link in that section of the forum I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/development/rom-h2os-hydrogen-os-ota-clean-stable-t3195636. I see it says that it is working on Indian OP2, and running stock rom and stock kernel. Does this mean that my north american OP2 won't be able to get this rom? Also if it is the stock kernel, does that mean it is the same kernel as the one currently installed on my phone? Anyways, if anyone knows about my phone's problems, or has a way to fix it let me hear it please. Thank you!

I had the same issue with O2. I changed kernels and the problems persisted. A also word the device and started from scratch through fastboot and the issues persisted. I ended up on hydrogen and I've never looked back. There is a flashable zip in that thread for the newest full version .11. Follow the steps wipe everything besides internal storage, flash the full v11 zip and boot the phone. After this reboot to recovery (power and volume down). Flash the gapps and super su zip if you want root. After this you should be able to add your Google account and be good to go. One thing I did was remove all Chinese apps and the stock launcher. I use trebuchet launcher from cm 12.1. Phone runs incredibly smooth now. I recently started running AK kernel as well. The oxygen version works with hydrogen. I have been averaging between 5 and 7 hours of SOT for battery with up to 8 if I'm just watching videos. Hope this helps. The ROM is a little simpler and the notifications settings are different. But you can set apps to have priority notifications and they function similar to oxygens notifications at that point. Everything is in the thread if you have any questions I'll try to help you.
