So, due to the huge amount of threads with information for the X8 I found, I think getting the info you need is pretty confusing.
Not saying that this is THE guide for everything, but it should sum it all up nicely.
A Warning
First off, let me start by saying that if you don't think you need rooting, don't root.
It can be dangerous if done wrong, so be sure you know what you're doing.
With that out of the way, let's get going then.
Updates and Basebands
First, before you do anything else, you need to update your phone using PC Companion (download here: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/pccompanion/xperiax8?cc=us&lc=en). PC Companion will guide you right through all the steps for updating.
The latest version is 2.1.1.A.0.6, and the latest baseband is M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015.
You can check your version by going to Settings -> About Phone.
If you are already running a custom ROM, you should update using PC Companion too, because some roms (like MiniCM) need the latest official version.
Advanced
If you need basebands for your X8, here's a helpful thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976538
Flash them with FlashTool.
Rooting
This is very simple to do, really.
First, download SuperOneClick (thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682) and place it on your desktop.
Next, on your phone, go to Settings -> Applications and enable Unknown Sources. Next, go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and enable USB debugging.
You also need the proper USB drivers. To check if you have them, start SuperOneClick.exe and click Driver Check. If the driver check fails, update your phone with PC Companion.
Now, connect your USB cable from your X8 to your computer. When connected it is VERY IMPORTANT to select CHARGE PHONE. Really, I can't stress this enough.
Start SuperOneClick.exe and just click ROOT. Everything should go normally. You might get a message asking you if your OS is 2.0 or higher, just go ahead and click Yes.
You should now be rooted!
xRecovery
YOU MUST BE ROOTED TO DO THIS
Installing xRecovery is the first step in the world of custom ROMs. Installing xRecovery also means if you are stuck in a bootloop, you can just recover to a working backup.
The first step is to download xRecovery mini-beta 0.1 (any other version WILL NOT work on your X8) (download HERE: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8AJTKDTQ).
Next, download Root Explorer (download HERE: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LGC110EX).
Copy both the xRecovery folder and the Root Explorer .apk to your SD card.
Install any file manager from the Android Market (I recommend OI File Manager or Astro) and use it to browse to the Root Explorer .apk file and install it.
Run Root Explorer, browse to the xRecovery folder and copy the 3 files inside onto the /system/bin folder.
xRecovery is installed. To start xRecovery you press the Back button while the Sony Ericsson logo is showing during boot. Restart your phone and just keep pressing the Back button.
To move around in xRecovery you use the volume buttons, to select an item you press the Home button (the middle one), and to go back you press the Back button. Go ahead and make a backup of your current system (make sure you have at least 300MB of free space on your SD card.
You'll find the backup you just made in the xRecovery/backup folder. Name it something you can identify (don't use spaces). Copy that backup onto somewhere safe on your PC.
Backups are REALLY important, don't be a lazy bum.
So, you bricked your phone.
Don't panic, don't worry, everything is going to be alright. If you have xRecovery installed, just recover the latest backup you made. That simple. If, however, you DON'T have xRecovery installed, we can still recover your dear phone, don't worry
Using PC Companion: Connect your phone to your PC and turn it on. Look around the update phone section of PC Companion for an option called "Repair your phone". Just follow the steps and your phone will be in working order pretty soon
That's about it, I'll probably add a section for custom ROMs in the future, with links to ROMs I recommend.
So, if you have any questions, feel free to post below
Custom ROMs
Alright, when it comes to custom ROMs, it's mainly personal preference. I'll list some ROMs I've tried (and recommend)
For Beginners!
If you're flashing your first custom ROM, and you want a ROM that you can use daily, miniCM is probably your best option. I have tested and can vouch for both of these ROMs.
Floyo 2.2.1 miniCM 1.0.0RC2 by ponanovn (CyanogenMod 6): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964223
Really simple ROM, basically everything you need to get started in the custom ROM world. The fact that it has CyanogenMod 6 is kind of a disadvantage comparing to for example, Racht's or Jerpelea's ROMs (they use CyanogenMod 7).
It features dualtouch which means pinch zoom is working. To activate it, put one finger on the screen then another finger. Then spread your fingers. The SD Card safe to remove bug is finally fixed with the latest revision!
Not working: Compass isn't working, some Bluetooth headsets are bugged.
Rating: [ ]
Floyo 2.2.1 miniCM by lizypen (CyanogenMod 6): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036335
Very easy and very smooth, a perfect ROM for beginners! Battery life is better then average, because it isn't overclocked to an extreme level. Like Ponanovn's rom, it uses CM6.
Not working: Same as ponanovn's miniCM.
Rating: [ ]
More advanced ROMs
These use CyanogenMod 7, and the reason why I say these are more advanced ROMs are that they need a little more configuration to get up and running then these miniCM roms.
Racht's HackDroid GingerBread (CyanogenMod 7): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914513
Racht is an amazing cooker, and it really shines through in this ROM. This features GingerBread (Android 2.3.3). It's really nice, it just takes a little bit more configuration.
UPDATE 25/04: Racht updated his rom! No more SD-Card safe to remove crashes, which also means this is the most stable rom to date. Thanks Racht!
Not working: Camera.
Rating: [ ]
I'll add a review of Jerpelea's ROM when I have used it for a little longer
Time for FAQs!
Frequently Asked Questions
This section will (hopefully) answer all your questions related with the X8. If you still have any doubts, go ahead and post here, or send me a PM.
SuperOneClick is stuck at "Waiting for device"!
This is most likely caused by the lack of USB drivers for your X8. Go ahead and click Driver Check in SuperOneClick. If the window that pops up says "No issues found!" the problem is NOT your USB drivers. Otherwise, download PC Companion (which comes with the USB drivers for the X8) right here. Install PC Companion and give your PC a reboot.
I'm working on this section whenever I have time, which doesn't happen a lot, because of school.
This Guide brings you all the a list of all the ROM's floating in this forum.

As far as I know this is the work of scritch and you are posting it here while scritch already has the thread about it
You better request Moderator to delete this
Both of the link of cm10 and kernel is from scritch so.....
Any moderators here, original-ganjaman or colossus...

Hey buddy did you ask the creator of this for permission first? and also it would be better to post this in the General section because these guys will eat you alive for making mistakes like this anyway ask this guy by way of message:"original_ganjaman" to move or delete it IF you did not have permission to do this.
Reported this bulls**t.
okk i think there is a little prejudice here but, lets hear what the op has to say before shooting it down.
maybe this is A thread to combine all three?
nobody will know and if we become an ass right off the bat we might have just lost a potential developer for our device.
guys, please try to be patient. i believe that most of us here would really want to see cm 10running on x10
Sent from my Xperia X10 using xda app-developers app
I want to think you are of good faith, if only the camera fix was not linking to my github repo but to a real camera fix, this thread would be ok.
You should have made links to my thread instead of linking hardcoded kernel and rom version, since (I hope) this will change quickly.
this is just a thread about a rom a few threads below.
reported this one!!!
also no credits added
How i can remove a thanks??

This theme was created to discuss the errors arising from the three developers of Jelly Bean. Here we will share our patches to fix bugs, and parse user errors to install the OS.
then you need to make one in general not in development.
and add CREDITS

OP, this thread is all wrong. You start it by saying you wish to start a discussion about CM10 development, then go on by posting other users work with no credits, or even a explanation why its here to begin with Discussions do not belong in the development section, adding other peoples work does not make it development. Now stop with these useless posts!

rom porter patch beta 1

after too many test i finally made a patch for porting ics stock roms from arc/s (and maybe other xperia 2011 devices) to pur lovely xperia play
it will install all the things that you need for fully working rom on xperia play and deletes the cybershot camera(because it not working on our device)
installation guide:
there are 2 ways for installing
1-if the rom has armo installer
2-if it doesnt have armo installer
if it has armo installer its very easy to use this
here is the instruction
1-open rom zip and ics rom porter.zip files with winrar
2-find the device section in rom zip file
3-drag all the files inside system folder in the ics rom porter.zip to lt28i(xperia arc) folder of rom zip
4-now simply flash the rom zip ans choose xperia arc as your device and everything will be fine
if the rom doesnt have armo installer
do the same thing as i said for the the roms with armo installer but instead of draging the files to lt28i folder drag them to system folder
bugs:
1-no touchpad. i need help for this part.
2-flashable.zip is broken. i need help for this one too
3-build.prob will be replaced with xperia z v5 by markphyton so you wont see the original tweaks after the port
4-some of the roms will give bootloop because they have more space than our system partition. if some one can repartiton a kernel with more system storage it will be great
to do list:
1-making an armo zip with all build.prob form popular roms and the requested roms
2-adding touchpad fix
tested on(working):
1-anzumi : by myself
2-4.1.b.1.13(arc version by jader) : by myself
tested on(not working):
xperia ray 4.1.b.1.13 (touchscreen had some problems)
download link:
http://d-h.st/eJv
thanks to:
1-markphyton : i have taken my files from his rom
2-all the developers of xperia arc :for making roms(that gived me the idea of this patch)
3- xda: all of us know why
4-dev host : i use it for uploading my files
5-xperia play users : for not giving up
reserved
please help me for fixing the bugs
i will start working on gb and jb patch as soon as i get time
waiting for reports now
that all i can do now
if you want to help for completing this patch i need help for these things
1- someone with good knowledge in making armo installer and update.zip files
2-someone for helping me in making build.prob files of requested roms
3-(the moost ipmortant) helping me for fixing touchpads
Smokerman is good in porting roms, you should ask him for touchpad fix
I have basic knowledge of aroma installer and build.prop editing, if i can, i'll help
touchpads
@smokerman
can you help me for fixing the touchpads?
i will release an update soon
things that i changed:
1-fixed the flashable zip
2-im using 4.0.4 ics build.prob instead of xperia z rom by markphyton
jb patch is being tested now
for now i only get bootloops
but im trying to solve the problem
i aslo wanted to make an gb patch but i saw that we will get a little problem in gamepad after porting gb roms from arc
(always open game pad. you cant use touchscreen for gaming anymore in ported gb roms.)

i can help for sure..what is the rom? send me the link..i will look into it on the weekend.
well im making a patch for all of the roms
i need to know the way so i can support all the roms that xperia play users want
do you use farenheith's patch for fixing the touchpad in stock based roms?
update coming in less than 30 minutes
im doing the final test
changelog:
1-you don't need to do anything yourself now. just flash the rom + the porter package and everything is finished
2-build.prob replaced with 4.1.b.1.13 for xperia play (made by myself)
3-updated most of the files
to do list:
1-building a 410mg system partition kernel.(i really need help or this one. i don't have enough experience)
2-fixing touchpads (i really dont know how to this because i never fixed touchpads for stock based ics roms. please help me )
also i saw project lard remover script
it can remover build.prob lines
if i can remove xperia arc lines and replace them with xperia play lines most of the bugs will be fixed
but my problem is with different build.prob lines like 4.1.b.1.13 or 4.1.b.0.631 and these things
for now i will add a guide about how to make the build.prob yourself for activating the build.prob tweaks of the rom after applying my patch(for better speed)
update: i got bootloop using the new zip although its working with the old way of porting (extracting the files to the system folder)
i will release it when i fix this problem

Hey @pankspoo!
I appreciate the share but is it really needed? There's already a dedicated original thread for all devices here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-installer-versions-changelog-t2714053
More importantly, that thread has some first hand troubleshooting tips =)
All other info on Xposed is nicely grouped on https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed
Anyway, enjoy the new official release y'all!
