First, I have a Galaxy S4 i9505 (4G), the problem does not affect my device, but the device's my cousin who is a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500 (3G).
He recently purchased the unit from another person, the unit worked well, but had a small defect in the charging connector ...
He asked me to sell one of my cases and battery why his battery was apparently bad, why was not possible give loads on the battery, I managed to solve this problem.
The problem came when he asked me to update the device to Android 4.4.2 KitKat by several improvements, I downloaded the latest firmware available at SamMobile site and after that did the flash using Odin.
Knox had in 0x1 (the unit had been modified) and I read on some forums that night, that when doing upgrade directly from 4.2.2 version, especially XXUBMGA the EFS partition changes shape, thus having little network problem and signal.
Link : http://www.grupoandroid.com/topic/83400-modem-mg9-y-posteriores-modifican-la-efs/
My questions are, it is possible to resolve this situation? I read previously that the IMEI is restored from a backup made previously it is possible to recover the network signal, but made no backup of EFS ....
I also read a long time ago that it is impossible to downgrade to ROM's with lower versions if there Knox installed.
I did the update of Android 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 using Odin.
If possible downgrade, any of you can share the ROM XXUBMGA 4.2.2 for S4 i9500? Or tell me some possible solution installing another ROM / modem?
I am currently trying different modems and using the OmegaROM in my cousin's S4.
Thx
Extract the modem.bin file from the ROM download and flash that through Odin to correct this. Or simply flash the ROM itself again if you don't want to go through the hassle of getting just the modem file out of the download. Either option will restore the network.
The IMEI in this case likely has nothing to do with the problem you're having, unless the IMEI reports itself as null or starts with 049. If you want a proper backup of the IMEI, you want to download AntaresOne's backup tool from the I9505 Development subforum and follow his instructions to make the backup.

Got this with 4.2.2 version, past owner said problems started after downgrade to version 4.2.2 coming from version 4.3
Some post say my solution is a 4 file firmware + pit file is required but I can't find it anywhere on the internet for my model, some others say I need to flash some Kernel and Modem but I don't know which files to use :crying:
I Don't know what else to do if you have a clue please comment :crying::crying:
Only thing I can think of is googling restore to stock with whatever model and carrier you use. There should be something. Read instructions carefully several times and then attempt.

Hello All,
Please forgive me if this is the wrong area to post this, this is my first post here.
I have a Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 that I purchased. The previous owner had it rooted and the leaked Lollipop 5.0 installed. I tried to flash it back to stock (Australian) however it near bricked it. It was running really slow, a hell of a lot of lagging. I installed the DirtyUnicorn Lollipop 5.0 custom rom, and the phone runs fine, except for the fact it has no radio (i.e. no 4G/3G/2G connectivity and no telephony).
I searched for days and days on end looking for a modem/baseband compatible but nothing seems to work. Would anyone have any info on how to get the radio working? I really don't care about going back to full stock, as long as I can use the radio. I have included some photos of the system info and the sticker under the battery.
Thanks for your help,
Christopher H.

Pointless flashing a modem with no IMEI .
Hello sir,
i got the same modified device of galaxy s4 (sph-l720 converted into i9500)
i also read almost all the posts that fall in this category. But i'm no more concerned about that change but all i need help is about to flash that firmware again in my phone.
Actually what i did, i got the phone pre-rooted then i removed some of the bloatwares from the system and also some of the system files too.
Then i come to know that it is not properly working. It got more serieous issues over the time. The i flashed my phone with sph-l720 firmware but it does not let me change network modes between gsm and wcdma. While i can change those networks in i9500 rom.
So i want to know that can i flash i9500 rom on my sph-l720 again "anyhow"!!
If possible send me links or tutorial so that i can flash rom on my phone. Also i am also eager to use lollipop rom (of i9500) on my phone. My phone is now almost unusable.
Give me the straight and forward solution and i am also aware about hardwares of both the devies.
Is there anything that you can help. I will really appreciate that.
I am the follower of xda since 2012.
If anyone could backup their current rom of kitkat (i.e. Modified rom on sph-l720) using twrp recovery and share it with my google drive or onedrive, so i can restore that on phone that it can be usable again. I would be very thankful to them.
Install Phone Info *Samsung* and send the details of it.
Soory if it sounds dumbish, im from romania, carrier - orange. I flashed some stock firmware MBC-Germany or so, if it counts, that's the one i used to flash all the time since romania was not withing those firmwares. I know the device is old, i'm planning to buy a Letv 1s or redmi note 3 but i have to do something with this overheating thing, i can't sell it like that. I heard it wouldn't overheat on 4.4.2, if you have advice regarding this problem, please
Flashed several modems, got signal now but can't use mobila data -> "No signal found for mobile network". I tried modems starting with these letters: "XX,DK,DD". I'm now using DD one since i got best signal but no network signal at all, any solution for me ? IF IT COUNTS, i've been using cm13 android 6.0 before flashing stock 4.4.2 and i have an efs backup done @ TWRP recovery, tried restoring it, didn't solve anything.
EDIT : Still cannot be called -> "Not registered on network" - i'll try further modems hoping it will eventually solve my problem.
UPDATE: Tried them all @ Modem thread. I'm expecting help, can't solve this on my own, i'm a noob.
You sure you have an I9500? If so, it was imported. Enter download mode please and read off the information on the screen.

There is no firmware for Romania as the I9500 isn't available in Romania. Thus any I9500 firmware from sammobile.com should work. Flash the full firmware via Odin and not just the modem.

I mentioned that all the problems started when i flashed GERMANY STOCK ROM 4.4.2.
I'm going to ask an odd question here, but do you still have the original box? If you do, the full model number of the phone will be on it, e.g. I9505ZKAO2U. If you have that full model number, post it here.
In the meantime, try installing one of these.

Didn't buy it new, i don't have the box of it anyway. How would that help ? It's not a fake s4 for sure if you have any doubt.
The full model number on the box as described would have allowed me to pinpoint the original firmware that was supposed to be on the phone. The last three letters are the CSC of the phone, and thus the firmware that the phone should be using.
Now, the only way to find out that information is by parsing it via the IMEI, which has the country of origin within it. To the best of my knowledge, none of the sites that allow you to enter IMEI numbers will retrieve that information. IMEIData.net used to do it, but require a subscription now.

Imei is unknown, got efs backup from back when i was on 6.0 gearcm. But i can't read it in any way. Tried restoring it, the imei is still unknown.
Take it in for service, especially if the EFS backup doesn't restore the IMEI to the device using the EFS Backup tool.

I really doubt that's so much of a problem. I remember encountering a similar problem 1 year ago when i flashed 4.4.2 rom over 5.0. I can't remember what i've done but i know i had been struggling for 3 or 4 days. I remember, anyway, it was related to some applications from play store, one called busy box or so. Moreover, then i had no EFS BACKUP. That's why im so careful now with it. My guess is that if i flash back to 5.0 that problem will be gone, but the phone is overheating, unusable if you ask me. Hope someone will be able to help me
Found that on youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT42ri37RBU.
Now my question is how do i find my imei within that backup cause the files are .md5/.info/.win/.win.md5.
UPDATE : Flashed that rom, same problem.
Bump. Flashed gearcm 6.0 and a XX modem and its working well now. Any help there, still? I have to flash 4.4 again soon and I need a solution.
Actually, the point is simple:
Anytime you get unknown baseband after downgrading, flash Lollipop modem back, done.

Hi All,
I have a newly refurbished Korean samsung galaxy s4 LTE active (LGU) SHV-E330L with baseband E330LKLUDPH1. It heats up heavily and have battery draining issue due to wifi reconnection and mobile signal searching in countries like India, pakistan and Bangladesh. Also, it does not have LTE band 3 support which is usually available in the international version i9505 or i9506 of the same device and is also supported by the chipset.
I updated the device with custom ROMs but it could not change the baseband, if I try official firmware, I get fail : auth error in odin along with secure check fail for: aboot.
I also tried flashing bootloader and modem from i9505 and i9506 only but could not change the baseband and get the same auth error.
I also tried NV writing to NV item 6828 but it gave success message only but did not update the values, as I checked by backing up again.
Currently I have twrp recovery installed along with 6.0.1 marshmallow and it shows model SM-G900M galaxy s5 but still all those problem exist.
My questions are :
1. Is it possible to change baseband? How ?
2. Is there any stable baseband for galaxy s4 without any issues?
3. Will it softbrick the device if I update the bootloader and modem now?
4. How do I backup/restore/flash modem or bootloader using TWRP ?
You cannot cross-flash the bootloader from another s4 to this phone using Odin. Also, cross-flashing the bootloader could hard-brick the phone.

Thanks for replying .
with Heimdall , is it possible ?
I can leave alone the boot loader , I only want to flash compatible modem.bin and non HLOS bin .
Do you know a way to fix this ?
I have tried many custom roms but none seem to help about network .

Really?
You can only flash firmware from the same model as your device.

I don't recommend cross-flashing modems either and an incompatible bootloader/modem could hard brick the phone.

Hi , I understand , it can brick the phone but how do I resolve the problem ? if not the boot loader but a compatible modem firmware such as international version of GT-i9506 could help ? Is there a compatible modem software other than the original firmware ?
As I stated my problems clearly in the original post, I have several problems with device software as i think they are software problems.
Is there any fix or solution for that other than what I tried ?

could this be antenna problem ? changing hardware will solve this ?
1. You can only flash a baseband that applies to your device. Attempting to flash other basebands will fail and could damage the device, as @audit13 mentioned. As @krasCGQ makes clear, using Heimdall instead of Odin won't change this fact.
2. There may be other basebands available for your device, but that requires downloading the ROMs from sammobile or samsung-updates and extracting modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin from them.
3. Updating the bootloader and the modem won't brick the device, so long as they are for your device. For example, you can flash an I9505 modem and baseband on any I9505, but cannot flash the same baseband and modem on an I9500.
4. You don't. You need Wanam Partition Backup and Restore to back up the modem partition. Backup up the bootloader you can do as well, but there's no point to it.
You asked how to resolve the battery drain and your other issues. Start downloading older ROMs and trying to flash their basebands until you find one that works well for you. Since you cannot flash basebands from other devices onto yours this is the only viable software solution other than "sucking up and dealing" with it. To answer your most recent question, changing the motherboard could in fact solve the issue, but like the basebands, the hardware is specific from one model to another. For example, you cannot place an I9505 motherboard in an I9500 device. You would need to purchase a SHV-E330L motherboard.

Thanks for the reply.
1. I9500 has different Chipset but i9506 has same as SHV-e330L . I understand the risk. My question is are you aware of compatible basebands for shv e330l other than original ?
2. I backed up using twrp recovery including bootloader, modem and efs, is it sufficient or do I still need Wanam Partition Backup ?
I will try older basebands for the same too.
One thing strange, originally , NV 6828 bit for original device should have been 15 for 1+3+5 LTE but are (08 10 00 ) band 4 + 13 LTE .
1. Chipset is irrelevant. If the baseband isn't for your model of S4 you will not be able to install it.
2. TWRP doesn't back up modem partitions at all, because the partitions in question cannot be seen by TWRP. Wanam is required.
I never was able to add bands to my I9505 and nearly bricked the device in trying it. I would stop trying to add bands.
