Couple of questions - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1) I have apps (bloat ware) on my Vzw G2 that I'd like to disable (for example, NFL). How to I hid them since I can't uninstall them?
2) is there a way to clear the cache from the apps other than one app at a time?
Thanks!

1. you have to root your device and then use an app like titanium to freeze/remove what you want - without root you can't do this
2. default "lg smart cleaning" app does the job just fine (one click cleaning) - i'm sure there are also some good 3rd party apps on store that can do that as well (i think even titanium can do that, but i've never used it for cleaning caches)

Does the G2 have the smart cleaning app? I've looked and don't see it.

[SOLVED] Apps saying not installed, but they are.

In my market, it says i have all these apps not installed. But they are all installed. When i click on them it doesnt say install, it says open. The apps run fine n are in my drawer. Is there a way to fix this? Its just really annoying when my "Pro" keys arent being used. Like, titanium backup says im using the free version when i have the pro version installed, same for my launcher pro key.

EDIT: can this be moved to the Q&A section, accidentally put in general. Thank you.
Same thing with me... google maps, youtube, and a few others are in the Not installed section, but when you select them it says installed, and you only have the option to open. I'm assuming they are still being checked for updates when I open Market... at least I hope they are. More annoying than anything else. Any thoughts?
Open up the "Manage Applications" and find Market. Clear the cache and reopen. Should show up now. Had to do that on mine.

I have the same problem, and agree it is annoying.
It started happening when I did a titanium backup after unlocking. So I guess there must have been some problem syncronizing with market after.
I have solved the problem by uninstalling the applications that were listed as needing updates even though they were already updated. And when reinstalled, the notification went away. It's not a very elegant way of fixing the problem, I know.
If anyone else has a better solution, please advise.
I learned this method from another forum (can't remember where); it always works for me:
Exit all applications on the phone
Home > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All
Market: Clear Cache, Clear Data (OK)
Google Services Framework: Clear Cache, Clear Data (OK)
Reboot your phone
Open Market app and Accept the TOS
Market > Settings > Content filtering > Set level > Show all apps (OK)
Market > My Apps: no more missing apps, or false positives for updates
I've tested this many times with the new Market app on my AT&T phone in both stock GB and piCRUST. It always fixes the display of installed apps within the Market app itself. But the list of apps showing on the Market web site under My Account (https://market.android.com/account) may not be immediately updated with the results. Sometimes the Market web site will be updated later rather than sooner, or only partially rather than completely. But this local fix will usually affect the web listing to at least some degree.
(Space reserved for future rant on market web site lameness...)
Did it, now i get a server error everytime i open the market. Just reinstall apk of new market?
EDIT: just used task killer to kill it all then retried n it worked. All my apps are saying installed. Thanks so much.

I see that error occasionally after using this fix, but I also sometimes see it after re-flashing the phone, and after other seemingly unrelated actions. It usually goes away for me if I just turn on wireless first before opening the Market app (no need to reinstall it). I think it's related to some error in the app or settings initialization, and not specific to this clean-up routine or anything else.
And yes, I've found that using a task killer also seems to help. Maybe indicative of another app blocking the Market from opening correctly at first run? I don't know, but once it goes away it doesn't seem to come back.
Thanks, this worked flawlessly.
Could I suggest you add "Solved" to the title of this thread so others that might have the same issue could use this?

Got it. Ive had to re do this fix after my phone shuts off, so its not permanent on my device. It might be for you, either way, it fixes it for awhile.

One other thing that will confuse the Market about what's kosher: using a non-standard LCD density.
In my case I had hard-coded build.prop to set ro.sf.lcd_density=300 and ever since I did that the Market website kept telling me that most of the apps I'd previously installed were not compatible with my Atrix 4G(!) My workaround was to revert to the default ro.sf.lcd_density=240 and then use the "LCDDensity" app to temporarily set it to 300. Whenever I need to go to the Market for something I just reboot the phone first and it reverts back to the default setting in build.prop.
If you've got it the other way around (e.g. build.prop is using a non-default setting, and you're using LCDDensity to override this back to the default), then that might explain why you're seeing this Market mischief return on reboot.
Even if you're not using LCDDensity (or you're using something else like "LCD Density Changer" which can make these changes permanent), you might want to check your current LCD density. Ditto for other property settings that might not be using their defaults.
Here's a list of all the things that the Market looks for to determine if a particular phone is compatible with an app:

Apps in Market not showing up under "My Apps"

The Market has been very unstable as of late. I have like 105 apps installed. Sometimes it shows 64 sometimes 42. Before the latest update, I was able to delete market data and cache and it would find all of the apps again, but the newest Market doesn't offer that option.
I have done an exhaustive search on this issue and have found very little. Can anyone offer any help?
It's glitching and not reading apps moved to sd as installed. Restart the market and/or clear it's cache. Sometimes that fixes it for me. Other times a reboot helps.

You could try wiping data on the Market app from Titanium Backup.
If you've got TB pro, you could also run the Market Doctor.

Disable apps or delete them with any root manager ?

Is it better to just disable system apps or fully delete them ?

There is ABSOLUTELY zero reason to touch any apps in /system, period. Ever. If you do, it will break OTAs, if you delete the wrong thing you'll have to reflash the ROM to recover, etc.
Settings-Apps->All, look for the ones you want to disable, do it there. If you can't disable them there, use pm disable com.app.name. If somehow you disable something critical, you can always factory reset to go back to normal.
If you touch /system, factory reset won't un-break what you did.
I use System app remover (ROOT) to delete system apps.
I always delete apps I dont use and want by deleting them from /system/app and /system/priv-app and I never had any problem or issue with it.
Also, currently, I use CloudyStock so I dont worry about OTA incompatibility.
More better is to disable or freeze unused apps. Why to delete? If you delete any essentially app from system your phone can be damaged.

Yes i think same maybe is better just disable apps. They will not work and that is it. Maybe phone when we delete some app trying to find that app and just cause problems. With disable is more secure..
I always delete what I don't want from my phone rather than simply disabling the apps. Of course, I've been tinkering with my phones for years, so I know what I'm doing. I also don't take OTA updates, so ruining the ability to do so is not a concern for me.

Why yes, deleting stuff like Chrome, Google+, Maps or any other app that can be downloaded from the Play Store will certainly damage the phone.

How can I have two icons of the same camera app but with different settings?

Without using titanium backup.
I switch settings on the camera app a lot, generally the resolutions. Is there a way to have two icons for a camera app so that each launch with their own set of settings?
I tried the app called App Cloner but it doesnt work with system apps. And I dont want to install a third party camera app.

I don't see how this is possible with your current setup. I think you have four choices.
1. Install a second camera app.
2. Use multiple Titanium Backup backups to switch the settings easily.
3. Open the camera app and change settings as you need to each time.
4. Uninstall the camera app, then install it as a user app and hopefully App Cloner might work.
I know two of those options you said you don't want to do but they're still available options.

Question about an app that keeps closing?

I have a 6t tmobile version that I updated to the international version and I have an app that won't load. When I click on it I acts like is going to open and then closes instantly. Is supper quick that you don't really see it. Help. The app is the YouVersion bible app. The thing is that the app was working fine before the update to international version. And the only older versions work.
Every time I update I have a few apps that do this. I have to open the play store and let Android system WebView update to cure this problem. Have you checked for updates yet?

Oh, I get it. Did you disable it? That is very weird. That was needed and it being outdated was the exact cause of my problems when I had similar issues that you describe.
I remove many things from OOS, but I've noticed there a few things I have to make sure are up and running before I remove otherwise I have issues.
What I would do is try and re-enable that and update it. See if that fixes it. If it does great. Try and disable it again after that if you want. However I think you may need it. Otherwise if you are rooted, back up that app with TitaniumBackup, and probably it's data in Android / Data folders and try a fresh install (This should be a last resort)? <-- That is unless it's an app that doesn't really have data that matters. If it's something that can be freshly installed without worry go ahead.

I figure out how to enable it, but it did not help. The app keeps opening and closing instantly
try this
force stop the app, its probably running in the background
wipe the cache and data in the app(settings/apps and notifications/
then un install the app
now reboot, and let the phone settle in a minute
go to app store and try to download/ install again
thats what I would try.
