On the nexus player how many players(gamers) can play at the same time? i mean how many controllers can we pair at the same time to this device? i would like to pair 2 asus game controllers or maybe 3 or 4.
but i imagine i can only pair one...i have never pair 2 bluetooth devices to other device at the same time.

I have the Asus controller and a Moga Pro connected at the same time. Only game I've found that's 2 player tho is GP2. Double Dragon needs the second player to use their phone.
Google website for the official controller says 4 but good luck finding a game that will even work with 2.
As I discovered browsing around, looking at documentation, etc, games have to be coded to support multiple players/game pad inputs. If the game doesn't support it, then all game pad inputs are interpreted as a single input (all players controlling the same character, etc). If you find a game you want single device multiplayer support (ie: double dragon) then the developers need to add that feature. Android does support multiple players input, so you can connect multiple game pads.
3 playing bomb squad
we've tried bomb squad with 2 game pad + 1 remote on nexus7
the remote is a little lag
though the game is wondful

I want to hdmi out from my a500 to 42" and use my Lg o2x phone as the game controller to play gameloft games. Is this possible ? If not is there some controller app that I could pair with tablet and use that to control the games ?

you might be able to use hdmi out but i highly doubt that you could use a phone as a controller for gameloft games. the only thing i can think of is that you can buy Bluetooth controllers, but so far I've only gotten them to work on emulators (but that was with my droid x, now i have the xperia play and no longer need a Bluetooth controller )
Not from direct experience but something I thought was cool
I was experimenting with my new A500. I plugged in my usb mouse. Works great. Then I plugged in my usb floppy. What a contrast between my 32 gb pad with a 32 gb card. I couldn't even store one picture at full rez.
OK, now why I really butted in here. I got the HDMI adaptor in the mail today and found that it made my XPlane look great. Sound and graphics were great. The pad itself was the controller and the image was on both screens.
BUT
I tried a game that is portrait only and it doesn't scale for a widescreen TV. Unless I wanted to play laying down or turn the wall mounted TV on its side, there are issues with playing phone games on the big screen.
Maybe a little off topic, but maybe helpful.
On another note, I have used the google remote control app to control my Logitech Revue but it is a hardwired portrait, so it is not so great in landscape.
Hope this helps someone out there.
Some interesting info here. I was not aware of the portrait only issue.
Search on here or youtube. Somebody has a video using an android phone as a game controller playing shadowgun on a asus transformer
I just watched it. So it is possible, just need to find something with a d-pad that makes sense. The video I watched the on-screen control scheme looks nasty. I'm not sure if its possible to change that layout or not but I will look into it tonight.
Its prob just better getting a real game controller. Ps3 or hardwired xbox 360 remote since our a500s have full usb and honeycomb supports game controllers

I agree. Sad part is I have 2 wireless 360 controllers and no wired ones. Makes me feel bad that I have two dual core devices yet still have to use wired controller.

Are you saying you use your Xperia play as a controller for your tablet? How do you do that? I have Xperia play as well.
there is an app calles droidmote (server and client) and it is supposed to do that. control an android device with another. havent tried it yet, but if someone has money to buy it, please share your experience.
So, here's the situation:
I have 3 gamepads, one is a fake dualshock, which isn't compatible with my nexus 7 at all, not to my surprise, and 2 other normal pc usb gamepads.
One is a fairly cheap Logic3 gamepad and the other a Logitech Rumblepad 2. The Logic3 one actually belongs to my little brother, so I can't really use it all the time.
Now, I was trying to hook up my Logitech gamepad to my nexus 7 with an OTG cable, might I interject I'm running PA 2.99 beta 2 with the stock kernel it comes with (if this is important for some reason), to use it as a gamepad for emulation. I'm playing a game on Gameboid, the GBA emualtion software. Now, it recognises both the gamepads. The problem is, my own gamepad doesn't function well in that, when assigning "hardware buttons" in Gameboid itsself, all buttons except the D-pad show up as '<unknown>', and don't do anything. The logic3 one I borrowed from my brother to test gives the same message '<unknown>' for every button, but it DOES work. Every button is recognised, and functions seperately when playing the game, so I can actually play with the Logic3, but not with my own gamepad.
Does anyone know what might be the cause, does this mean my gamepad won't really be compatible, or is this kernel-base/ROM-base? Are there drivers/kernel modules I should look for?
Any help would be appreciated!
Sincerely
MajorMonodon

Does this happen only on Gameboid or on other android emulators as well? It could be the gamepad is just not compatible with it since your using an OTG cable. I would double check the rom's thread and see if anyone else is having issues with using wired controllers just to be sure. I can't even play Gameboid for too long without it crashing my Nexus 7 and making it restart on its own. I'm still trying to figure out why this happens.
Does anyone know of any bluetooth controllers that work with our device? Phonejoy or anything? I'm on slim rom 4.2.2 build 2 with KTmanta kernel.Thanks.
Ps3 will work with the sixaxis app.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
I use a $30 "controller for tablets" that I got from GameStop. It works perfect in my Game Boy Advance and SNES emulator. In the emulator itself go to controls and then assign the buttons however you want. The one problem with modern versions of Android is that when a bluetooth controller is connected, you can no longer use the on-screen keyboard because the controller is your input device. You have to disconnect the controller (or just disable bluetooth) if you want to type stuff again. No that big a deal since you only really have it on while playing a game anyway
Looks like it is on sale now for $20:

Ps3 controller through sixaxis app is awesome and has more native game pad support from apps than any others I've seen... Some games even change all the buttons in game to reflect the ps3 controller... I like where it would normally say "tap here" and it will say "push X"
The bard's tale comes to mind
Plus it let's you set up touch emulation for games that don't have native game pad support
Thanks for the input guys! I tried the one from gamestop. It was red samurai brand. Didn't work. Phonejoy is updating their hardware and is no longer manufacturing those remotes. I'm gonna go with sixaxis. Thanks!!
So things are going pretty well in terms of gamepad playing on my NPlayer using my F710. My roommate plugged in his wired controller to see what would happen. We were both controlling the same character.
Does android allow for multiple gamepad inputs for things like emulators and whatnot? I haven't had a chance to check and don't know when I'll be able to. There doesn't appear to be any local multiplayer games for android yet. (while double dragon is listed as local multiplayer, it is actually local in terms of using bluetooth on separate devices)
Try to test it with Age of Zombies, it has 4 player local co-op.
I actually managed to find the answer to this question. Multiple game pad input has to be programmed into the app, so the facilities are there in the API, but the developer has to make it work. I guess we'll just have to wait for more NPlayer friendly games to show up.
Wait, so you had your F710 and then someone connected another controller? USB hub? Or did you manage to pair the F710 without the dongle?

F710 uses the unifying receiver from Logitech. You have to use the dongle. I have a USB hub with storage, F710, and another gamepad connected and they all work.
I have one official controller and a xb360 controller and was able to play Bombsquad and Riptide GP2 perfectly well with 2 players. I really wanted to play MAME, but couldn't get the emu to identify them as two separate controllers. I think it's app specific.
Sent from my Oneplus One with Tapatalk Pro.
I tried 4 controllers and 2 cables but the shield never recognizes it. Is there something special I need to do?
2 cables?? What controllers are you using? Wireless?
Note that the charging cable is only a charging cable there is no data at all. X360 Wireless controllers can only be used on PC or Android devices with the PC receiver Microsoft sells.
Lmfao really?. I've never seen another cable for the 360 to be honest so I assumed that was it. So what's the name of the cable I need?
So I guess I need to get the wireless dongle then huh
Yes if you have wireless controllers they only work on Xbox, for other devices you need the receiver. Wired controllers yes they work without any configuration or addon equipment.
As I said the cables you attach in the front of the controller are only for charging purposes nothing else. Even when you plug it to the xbox and use it, it charges the batteries only the connection is still done via wireless.
Yea I understand, I never had a wired controller so I had no idea.
I don't need that $30 new adapter right?
I see people saying $5-10 ones on ebay, do they mean these?

Yes those are the chinese ones. I cannot ensure you that they will work straight out of box. I read some posts where people add to edit files to use i on Android. Don't know if its true or not. MS ones are much more expensive but they work fine without tweaks but they are also rare. One possibility is you sell one of your remotes for a good buck and buy the combo remote + receiver. I bought one recently for around 40€ but I had only one remote at home.
Which games are you planning to use it on? Full android TV someone reported today that some Android games are not fully compatible because of the Dpad location. I'm guessing some games need a joystick there like the PS3 remotes have. I'm using mine attached to the PC and I use it to play streaming games only, range is quite good on that receiver. For Android games I will probably use the BT ipega gamepad I bought 1 year ago or droidmote
I will use it on some old retro games with friends. Mario kart, tecmo bowl etc. No games too crazy.

This one is official microsft, guess I will get this one
Yap that's an original one. Happy gaming.
the USB cables for the wireless controllers are ONLY for charging.
I know its stupid but theres nothing you can do except getting a wireless adapter.
I got a receiver, ordered it today
Just get the 360 wired controller.

I can confirm that the 360 pad is not fully compatible with some AndroidTV games. Specifically, Portal and Half-Life 2 won't accept input from the d-pad. It has nothing to do with the physical location of the pad, as it should show as a "POV Hat" regardless of its physical location. It just doesn't work for some reason.
...which is a shame, because the Shield controller is rubbish.

Dpad also doesn't work on Borderlands the Pre-sequel. And Trine 2 just flat refuses to recognises that you have a controller attached at all. Everything else I've tried works fine.
