I'm ruined by this beast... - One (M8) General

I had my M8 pick-pocketed a couple days ago while on holiday in Marrakech.
I'm so spoiled by this phone (excepting the camera) having come from Galaxy S, S2, Note 2 & Nexus 4 (latter two at the same time).
Using it is like having tantric phonesex with an otherwise perfect but short-sighted maestro phonehooker.
I'm well into photography (have my own darkroom etc, developing real film) and the camera on this phone sucks. But the rest of the phone is great (GR8, even).
I'm now waiting to replace this with the M9 in March with the better camera (hopefully). I can't see myself wanting to buy another M8 with the camera as it is . Back to the Note 2 for another 3 months then... But I don't know how I'll last that long....

Phonesex? Hm...

Note 1 to Note 2

Hi everyone, i have a note 1 right now and i thinking to migrate to note 2. For who do this movement, worth it? how about compare one ho another in battery life, speed of response in general? etc...
Well any help is very welcome...
Thanks in advance!!
Battery Life - Note 2>>>>>Note
Speed, Again Note 2>Note
Display, personally Note 2>>>>>Note (sRGB vs Pentile, end of)
And it's much more comfortable to hold, and the aspect ratio is standard (16:9), so watching movies is more fun with N2.
It's a worthy upgrade, go for it.
Search. There are threads like this already.
And there is no comparison in these phones. Note 2 is WAY better on all points. I suggest looking up comparison videos.
Wait for note 3.

Or Note 4.. or 5.
Or keep waiting. No idea why people keep saying this. Pick a good phone that suits your needs. If you keep waiting for "better", you'll just end up waiting forever. N2 should be good for a good few years to run everything that's thrown at it IMO.
Well it will be out soon and im sure his note 1 will do till then if he hss to get 2 year contract? If its not a 2 year contract then yes note 2 big jump
Out soon? It's at least a few months away from now. And the development etc. takes a while to start off and same with good stable phone firmware etc.
Specwise, Note II itself is good enough for a good 2 years IMO.
People don't realise early adopters are the ones who end up waiting and testing their devices to find something close to stable, not to mention the hardware related bugs as with SDS. We only recently started seeing aosp/cm ROMs for the Note 2 that are close to usability and the note 2 was released in 2012. Unless you're a developer I suggest you get the Note 2 for now. And if you aren't on contract get the Note 3 when its at least 4-5months after its release; that gives you atleast 9-10 months to enjoy your note 2.

It's probably 5 to 6 months away.
If I were planning on taking out another two year contract to get a free phone, I'd probably be inclined to wait. As it is, I tend to get a free upgrade every two years, and sell it to buy something new after a year.
I bought a Note in October 2011, and got a free upgrade to the Note 2 in October 2012 - I expect to be able to buy a Note 3 this October.
As to firmware, I never had the need to use anything other than stock on my Note 2. Assuming Samsung can maintain that quality, I guess the Note 3 would be the same (for me personally).
Regards,
Dave

I had the Note1 for a year and then moved to Note2 and I can tell that the difference is HUGE! Note2 is the first mobile phone that satisfies me at 100%. Note2 is narrower than Note1 so it seems smaller even being bigger than Note1. Proportions are better. The touch is very pleasant, S3-style, is very, very fast, the battery lasts longer, and the notifications LED is a big improvement to me. It's also the first phone that has healed my flashaholic condition! now with stock rom, perseus kernel and a couple of mods I'm happy!
Don't think twice, it's a big improvement!
EDIT: Only two things: Maybe the camera is slightly better in Note1, and in my opinion it's the maximum size i'm willing to carry daily with me.
One thing i think is clear. Samsung are close to release a new version of his devices every year. And we can decide when change it. I think that Will be a moment that the specifications of a device complain us in the most of it and then we can stay with it for a long time. Trught the distance, Windows xp was in some time the first really stable operation system from ms. Has a lot of years working and for me is enough and is working in all my pc's with no problem and with no need to upgrade it.
Note 1 is great in general, i think the only thing to be perfect will be when i dont need to have the battery icon in the top bar (jeje) and no lag at all in general.
At least is what i think.
Thanks for the answers...

I have a note 1 and sell it a month a go to buy the note 2.
The difference is bigger.
You can wait to the note 3, but when samsung release it they be much more spensive than the 2.
I was disappointed with the Note II display being smaller - one or two apps displayed noticeably less on the screen. Otherwise, the Note II is much better. I'm getting a Note 8 as my next phone.

I'm actually thankful that they made it less wider - and even Note II is sometimes a tad awkward to hold. Can't imagine how awful it would have been with the original Note. Plus the aspect ratio is more standard with Note II, which means movies etc. fit perfect on N2. And it's still 5.3'' vs 5.5'' right? So not sure why you'd say that.
As there are fewer pixels, some apps display differently. E.g. Google Reader lacks the "Mark All Read" button on the Note II, but showed it on the Note, which is tiresome. (Of course Google are abandoning that app, so its's no longer relevant, but there are other examples too). And I did not find the Note awkward to hold at all - and I do not have big hands.

Upgrading to The Nexus 5?

Is anyone here upgrading their nexus 4 to a nexus 5? Why or why not?
NOOOO..
1- nexus 4 , still has the top tier hardware , only smapdrgon 800 , Apple A7(gpu is stronger , cpu is weaker) and tegra 4 chipset are above it , s600 is slightly faster with same gpu..
2- nexus 4 hardware to software compatibility is really good , qualcomm wont abandon s4pro like, TI did for omap ..so software isnt a problem ..
3- personal reason , bought nexus 4 just a few months back , so i still love it , really like the glass , however n5 desing is also good , but if you try to sell n4 and n5 to some person without telling the hw specs , hell definately pick n4
... but still most people want top most hardware .. its ur choice
No, phone is buttery smooth, blazing fast, has a great community, always latest android version, still one of the best phones so no reason to upgrade for me.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
i traditionally always purchase the newest nexus phone to be released... however, i feel that this time the upgrades are only marginal. sticking with my nexus 4.
I am keeping the N4 but I get my N5 Tuesday, so I will have and use both.
Using the N4 for GSM and the N5 for CDMA.
Gsm costs me $5 a month
CDMA $0 a month
I will be upgrading, as the camera is very important to me. The N4's camera while better than any previous phone I had, is pretty bad compared compared to the N5 from the samples I've seen. 1080p video was also horrible, especially the sound! If it weren't for the camera, I would probably keep the N4 as performance is great (unless you like games).
Got my nexus 4 2 weeks ago and is the best phone I've owned.. No reason to get the 5
Sent from my Nexus 4 + 7
No, I'll certainly wait until the next nexus (nextus? ). The difference between the 4 and the 5 just isn't big enough for me. And the 4 is still more than good enough because of the reasons stated above (also, I think the camera of the nexus4 is good if you know how to use it, xda has lots of examples).
Its just that the past generations were really leaps apart, the n5 and the n4 aren't.

well from the nexus 4 and 5 theirs not much new the newest thing is the android 4.4 which will be coming for the nexus 4 im going to wait .
Earlier post of me playing devil's advocate:
" This is absolutely the worst purchase a man can make.
Fellowmen, we are nearing the 3 score mark on the age of mobile phones. Is it too much to ask for basic things like week 2 day battery, or signal in buildings? How many lives must the farmer slain before the suits comprehend my pain? How elementary is it that demand is there for quality, but yet no one steps up to the plate?
This wreck of a device is exhausted with thermal issues, rinky dink speakers, and a camera worse than my ancestor's Polaroid. What is the world coming to when 4 cores lag?
Why, why is my agony ignored and embellished in the bliss of the sheep? O, I ask thy name be reverberated to clicks of fine course treats."
Hopefully this post will convince everyone to be innate with haste for the time being, for we know not the status of the supply chain.

I don't think im getting the Nexus 5, I bought the 16 gig Nexus 4 in mint condition off Kijiji for $180 just back in June, and its still a beast and I like the glass design. Looks more premium compared to the matte finish on the Nexus 5.
Nope.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Biggest reason in for me to upgrade is LTE ! (at&t)
Secondary reason would be a camera upgrade. Comparing pics of the two devices, the bezel looks so similar. Once 4.4 hits, the translucent notification bar and menu bar will make the screen real estate look HUGE on the Nexus 4.
Honestly the nexus 4 is still a sweet device, just wish it had LTE.
I suppose I would enjoy the better camera, but I have had my Nexus 4 for almost a year and have had little to complain about the camera, or just about anything else for that matter.
My only real beef is the cell reception... I get better with my old RAZR, especially when holding it. I ordered a Nexus 5 with the thought of trying Sprint via Ting to see if I get better service than T-Mobile, but I have seen remarks that Ting won't be able to activate it. I am rarely in an LTE service area so no benefit there.
So here I sit, on the fence so to speak... wondering if I should open the box when it arrives. Wondering if I'll be able to activate it on Ting... or if the radios will be any better on my existing T-Mobile service, and just how much better the camera and speakers are, and of course how many new device/OS glitches there may be to put up with.
Starting with the Nexus 4. I just don't see a reason for upgrading. It's been a great phone and it's getting updated. With no new innovations coming down the line (from anyone) I think I'm going to stick around for a while.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger for the N5 because of the 1080p screen and LTE.
I'm absolutely getting the nexus 5. I've had my nexus 4 from day one, and I've lived every minute of having it (still do). But in my opinion, the nexus 5 is leaps and bounds better. It's an all around upgrade. I purchased 2 of them
Got shipping notification early this morning so hopefully they'll be here on Monday or Tuesday.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
I have the four and also bought the 5 - although some say the hardware updates are marginal, having LTE without modding or hybrid radios will be nice.
will be keeping both N4 and N5 in my daily use rotation since they are both awesome phones.

Ill go probably for Note3 or ill move away from samsung they eraned that by taking ages to update S3 and then when the updated it was crappy because we were no longuer the prodigal son therefor were rushed out.
And they forgot that this isnt about the phones its about the people that spend tons of money on their products to in the end get real desapointments.
So sammy hope im wrong but S5 was the missing nail on the coffenet.

S5 is ugly, doesnt have anything really new and interesting. LG G2 from last year is better and cheaper. Samsung did very bad job this time.
I'm too for note 3 over s5. My phone serves me as a tool for work not as a toy so s3 is enough for me.

For me, it will be another brand. Samsung is too busy.
- Plastic again and again... I prefer metal like iPhone
- No real hardware improvment (2Go - RAM ... WTF)
- A Printer Sensor (like iPhone)
- Not other new...
No. Love my S3, and waited for the S5, but its back is horrendous, it's bigger overall with big bezels, TouchWiz on it looks horrendous and I expected something totally different. Let's see if HTC has something better at 25 March...

Samsung have dropped the ball, I couldn't care less about fingerprint scanners and all that bloat. I want more ram i9305 which launched in 2012 had 2GB, and a larger battery, Samsung total caught on the hoof by the Xperia Z2 which total trumps the SGS3SS, I suppose in 6 months they'll be an S5Pro with better specs but i'll either jump ship to Sony or await Nexus.
GS5 sux its back cover looks like medical plaster, am either gonna stick to my S3 with temasek rom (CM 11 based) or go to Note 3 which has much much better look or wait as long as my S3 is surviving
No way!!! Mo more Samsung!
I'm thinking keep it reasonably cheap and jump to nexus or get the Sony flagship
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
No.
I'm surprised it doesn't have 3Gb. Not because it's needed (though it may with all the usual crap samsung puts in) but because it's not a new thing anymore (note3). I quite like that the back is replaceable. It's SO UGLY. I may have a change of heart about this holding it in hands but that's my first impression. It'd probably be better off with some black cheap back cover from ebay.
I really don't like raised cameras at all too. It's a great way to scratch the lens and it probably makes the screen wobble if it's being used on a table.
Dem extra features. I believe it was wozniak who said features =! from innovation. All those extra functions are nice but they're only adding stuff 99% of the people will only use for party tricks. Not really sure what i expected but then again it's their job to come up with impressive stuff not mine. This one just seems lackluster.
The only reason i'd get it would be if i got it offered to me and i had no say in the matter (company replacing phones for that one, etc). It's a great phone for sure but not impressive considering what else's out there. Also, samsung needs to learn how to treat their customers better and if for nothing else, i'd like them to learn this lesson.
To be honest the only thing that gets me mildly excited about the S5 is the fact they FINALLY decided to put away with that exynos crap in favor of a decent processor, even if it's "just" a quadcore. Since they're not using it anymore on the flagship device, i'm hoping they stop caring enough about older phones that they release proper sources.
If i have any say on my next phone it'll most likely be a nexus - a cheap always updated powerhouse. I may also look the apple and the microsoft way. I wouldn't buy them with the current offer but I'm not adamant for anything if they do grow greener grass on the other side.
TL;DR: S5? No, ty.

S5 have same memory as s3 lte with some extra gimmick
For now z2 seams good deal and waiting for htc one.
I've the same disappointment when they introduced s3 with 1gb.
now they dropped the s3 from 4.4.2 upgrade list because of lack of memory. They will do the same to s5 in the feature.

How do you find the storage. I like being able to plug in a microsd (though it's mainly full of nandroid backups)
Can you use otg in recovery?
It doesn't matter what phone soon, with glass and the moto 360, will we even get a phone out of our pockets in the next few years anyway
Whatever it is, will likely be an American model for whatever I choose. I will probably end up buying it off of the Google Play Store, as I don't like the bloat that the OEM's put on the phones. My wife has a MotoG that was purchased recently, and except for the MicroSD expandable storage and the removable battery, it meets all the specifications of the SGS III. It suits her fine, but I find these aspects a nessecity in a mobile phone. I don't know what my next phone will be, but it must be able to take MicroSD cards, and have a removable battery.

I'll buy a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact now.
My S3's display shattered for the second time now and I am fed up with minor annoyances with CM11 (no 5 GHz Wifi, Bluetooth range problems (maybe related), battery drain after 1st call). The bloated stock firmware doesn't attract me either.
Additionally, Samsung's open source support is mediocre.
Plus, the S3 screen could be a bit smaller for my hands.
Don't get me wrong – the S3 is a great phone, there are just some small details that annoy me. Oh, OLED display – how I love it...
But when I get the chance to unlock a Z1 bootloader or get an unlocked phone, I'll switch.
So far I'm not impressed with the lineup, so I'm sticking with the S3 for now.
The new HTC One looks really nice but I can't live with such a crappy camera. And I don't wanna buy another Samsung phone so the Galaxy S5 is out.
The Sony Xperia Z2 seemed nice, but it's just way too large for me. I'm hoping for a Z2 Compact to come out soon. If it keeps the awesome specs of the Z2 in a small package, I am so sold!
The One Plus looks interesting, but I got a feeling it will be in short supply initially, and by the time it's available the LG G3 is probably out and some leaks of the new Nexus will probably be out.
All in all, an interesting year if you're patient Also the S3 is serving me fine, running a Kitkat ROM on it and it flies and feels as new. My only gripe is that im missing a lot of the Samsung features (camera features, face detection, Allshare etc), but if the elusive offical Kitkat update from Samsung ever comes, there might not even be a need to update my phone this year

Hi!
I had S4 for 2 years and I think will keep my S6 for 2 years as well ?

until S7 arrive, I replace every year, I get my phones for free anway.
Probably until the next nexus, assuming it's 'normal sized' ie not like the n6 and good ie not like the n6
I moved to the s6 from my trusty nexus4 and really miss stock android. Yes the camera and app is better on the s6 and the finger print reader is ace... But the whole software experience from all the bloat to the aggressive memory management is annoying.
I also like having new updates quick and playing with developer previews and custom ROMs. Both very scarce on the s6. I also resent Knox and having to work around it or trip it to obtain root.
So prob about 8 months I think me and my s6 will be together
I don't know, depends what the competition releases in the next 6 months.
It will be something that doesn't use snapdragon 808/810, that's pretty much all I can see for certain.
I only just upgraded from the S2 which I used for 4 years and nothing between even though I could have upgraded much sooner at almost no extra cost. So, quite likely till 2019 unless I get really bored with it
I'm not the guy who swaps his phone every time there's a new flagship in town, but I am the guy who gets a new phone every year or so. I always go for the phone with best camera, and doesn't look like the one I currently use. Don't think I'll go with Samsung again though. Love my S6 Edge, but the laggy software is killing me.
I am one who swaps phones often. I have a S6 Edge for two weeks now, which replaced a Xperia Z3 Compact, which replaced a Nexus 5, which replaced a LG G2. I will likely swap when a phone sized between the Z3C and S6e (which is bigger than the G2) is released with flagship level specs. That could be the Nexus 5, it could be a Z4c, it could even be a LG G4 downsized. It could even be a downsized S6. It most likely will be the next Nexus 5.
2 or 3 months until next 1+ comes out or if not until new nexus comes out.

two years. Usually odd numbers galaxies are crap, so my next one will be the s8
Honestly if htc bring out a great m10 I'll switch to it. Reasons are:
* the speaker on the S6 is so crap and distorts and vibrates .
* my screen has cracked at some point don't know how but it did and no sign of a drop anywhere?
* the edge uncomfortable at times.
* the camera does not have any shutter speed control , I know 5.1 but the will only be half a second .
Things I will miss:
* the camera is really nice on auto
* the themes are great.
* amoled screen is the best hands down.
I change phones once a year so this is normal for me.
And yes I will be talking to samsung about the crack and speaker also the phone freezes and stutters sometimes .
For the first time ever i'll probably keep it till it dies or they bring out an identical phone with twice bigger battery and waterproofing in the same footprint. There's no better phone right now and anyone complaining of camera or lag has no clue.
This should of been a poll
I think I will stay with this one for the next 2 years ... as i think that any big improvement can't be made in one year ...

I'll keep it untill either it breaks, or there is a new Moto X or Nexus that I like.
