Hey guys, yesterday I tried to get an unofficial CM12 for my Nexus 4 but it doesn't work so I decided to reflash a stock version with NRT. The problem is that my phone get into a bootloop when I flash the rom. I've tried a 5.0.1; 5.0; and 4.4.4. I have also tried to do a wipe cache but it does an error.
Ave you got any idea ?
Flash factory image without nrt. Only download factory image, put nexus4 in fastboot mode (vol down + power), extract file downloaded, extract again and move up in that directory, you should must found flashall.bat (if you use Windows) or flashall.sh (for Linux, or mac). Plug the cable on nexus and pc, Clic on flashall.bat if you use Windows and it recognized well your nexus4 and wait, after reboot you can unplug usb cable.

I have been running clean rom on nexus for the past couple of days and decided to try another rom but i went into cmw mode and formated data and system and now i can boot my nexus or run cmw ??
Nexus root kit says im not in ADB mode and need to set nexus in debugging mode ARRRRGHHHHHH i cant because i cant load into JB ??
Help please anyone

Plug you tablet into the usb port on the computer..
hold the down vol key then hold the power key
Sometimes it takes a few times to get this to work .It should take you to the boot-loader screen . Use the vol + vol - key and scroll to where it says reboot boot-loader . or just boot-loader hit the power key..
you should now be able to get into cwm with the above and select recovery.. If that fails try below.. But much better tutorial on the programs thread ..
when you come back to the boot-loader screen you should see device found on your computer. Start the nexus root tool kit.. Go to advance and flash recovery partion back to cwm or twrp.. then flash custom rom..
silly guy you deleted the rom you were going to flash..
now you can also at where you get flash recovery . FLASH TWRP 2.2.2 I THINK (LATEST ..
PUT a rom on a flash drive .. using otg cable boot into TWRP AND You can flash the rom from otg storage..
hope this helps For some reason this device will hand with cwm without a usb cable connected to something powered.. can be another cell cable tv box your tv or anything .. Computer of course
I can load CMW now but its no use as i havent got a zip rom on the sdcard now grrrr

use the nexus tool.. to do the stock rom / unroot .. It will ask of your tablet can boot.. Select no..
it will boot you into fast boot and put a image back on your tablet....
You poor guy .. I think you need a hug...
OK i will write you a little guide to get you going again
This is pretty much what the scripts do, but you will be doing it by hand (always good to know what to do in case of emergency)
if you have the red triangle then you havnt flashed CWM, you are only booting it
1. Download the recovery.zip attached below
2. extract it to the root of your C: drive
3. open a command prompt (cmd) and CD to the directory
Code:
C:
cd recovery
4. rename your downloaded rom to rom.zip (for simplicity) and copy it into the recovery folder you extracted
there should now be 6 files in the folder
Code:
adb.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
fastboot.exe
recovery.img
rom.zip
5. boot your phone into bootloader (power & volume)
plug N7 into PC
6. in your cmd window type
Code:
fastboot devices
(to make sure your N7 is detected)
you should see something like
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (BOOTLOADER)
7. type
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
about 20seconds and you should now be booted into Clockwork Mod
8. go to mounts & storage and click on mount /data (not sure if this is neccessary but do it anyway)
9. make sure your phone is detected in recovery by typing
Code:
adb devices
your should see
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (RECOVERY)
10.back to your cmd window and do
Code:
adb push rom.zip /sdcard/
this will take a while to do (probably about 5 mins)
11. Once complete you can install the rom as usual in CWM
I did this once while setting up my dads n7. I wrongly assumed that cwr had USB storage mount as an option so I didn't copy the ROM over.
The best option for those in this situation without much hassle is to use the all in one toolkit to download and install stock ROM from fast boot. It will download stock image onto your PC and then flash it from fast boot. It will also reflash stock recovery.

I have had that android with red triangle twice. Believe me youre nexus is far from over. Just used the toolkit and flashed stock. Problem solved. When i used it there was an option that says...device on or cant boot up. So i just selected cant boot up. Put the device in bootloader and thats it.

that is correct, you cant mount usb storage, but you can quite easily adb push files from your pc to your /sdcard/ partition then just install them in CWM
i just got my N7 this afternoon, checked for defects, hastily download ParanoidAndroid N70000 (not realising that N70000 is the Galaxy note)
unlocked bootloader, flashed CWM
wiped System/Data then tried installing new rom only to realise that it wont install and because i have wiped system i have no android
easiest way for me was by downloading correct rom
adb push newrom.zip /sdcard/
then when you go to install my new rom is now on internal memory
okay so ive just rooted the device (nexus 4) running 4.4 kitkat and i had downloaded beanstalk and all the needed files to my computer, and followed this guide and wiped my cache, dalvik, and factory reset from TWRP recovery mode. i plug my phone into my laptop to install the ROM folders onto my phone and the laptop makes a noise meaning the phone is plugged in but the device is nowhere to be found in file explorer
i try to restart the nexus 4 to try with USB debugging on but it turns out it just keeps bootloop. so what can i do
please HELP??
Do you have a nandroid backup? Always have one. Boot into recovery and flash it. If you don't, shame on you, you're going to have to get your pc to recognize your device when booted into recovery and push your rom onto, or sideload the rom

Don't know if this addresses your specific problem but:
1. If you boot your phone into recovery, or just leave it at the bootloader screen, the Nexus 4 will not be displayed in Windows File Explorer. Only when it is booted to a full system will Windows recognize it.
2. Nevertheless, if you hear a tone from your PC that indicates your phone is connected to the USB port, then you can open a command window on the PC and start flashing your system images via fastboot commands.
3. follow the useful guide here (it is for a nexus 5 specifically. just substitute the appropriate Nexus 4 mako factory image)

Hello,
I saw that the OTA update to Lollipop was available on my phone today, so I went ahead and let it download. Upon completion of the download, it restarted and applied patches, then restarted again and has been stuck in boot loop for about an hour. After reading several other threads on how to try to reset the phone, I'm stuck. When I try power + volume up or down, the LED status indicator flashes red and I never get to any kind of other screen. Am I completely screwed? I previously had stock 4.4.2 with no modifications.
Finally was able to get to the bootloader menu. Apparently having the phone plugged into the charger was preventing me from getting there for some reason. I ended up having to wipe the phone to get it to boot
so you can get into clock recovery right? download nexus 4 toolkit..that might save your phone. I suggest you to unroot and flash everything to stock and then unlock again and start everything from scratch. good luck.
Similar issue on an OTA upgrade to an unrooted N4. It's stuck on the Lollipol boot screen with the rotating Circle thingies.
I can get to the Android System Recovery but there's no CWM or TWRP on my N4. I'm guessing a factory reset will fix it but is there a way to preserve my pics/files on the phone before doing so?

I guess TWRP Recovery has option to enable MTP and you can access the internal SD card by connecting mobile with computer using usb cable.

Flash TWRP Recovery using fastboot.
1. If you have otg y cable, connect it and use file manager to copy all the files.
2. OTG method is failed then select “Mount”, then select only “Data” and connect your Nexus 4 to your computer and Enable MTP in TWRP. now you can use adb pull and push commands.
I ended up going the factory reset route, which wasn't really a bad thing. My photos had been backed up in dropbox and the play store remembered all the apps and were able to reload them. The only things I really had to do was reload some music onto the phone and re-enter passwords for apps.
Same story here: sideloaded the OTA zip file, then had bootloop. Tried a few approaches, but none worked. In the end only wiping the data was the solution for me. Lost some userdata in a few important Apps...
I went through this yesterday. The only way to get it to boot is a Factory Reset from Recovery. It works like magic, but sucks you lose the data.
Got the OTA yesterday and also got a bootloop(stuck in boot screen animation). I couldnt afford losing my photos/videos as i had no backup , so i figured out a super easy to get it to boot without wiping data .
I was unrooted with stock recovery running stock 4.4.2, bootloader was unlocked. I flashed CWM recovery through fastboot and wiped chache+ Dalvik from there then simply rebooted the phone .
I had already tried wiping cache from the stock Android recovery, needless to say that didnt work for me.
If anyone else is having the same problem please try the method above and report back, cheers!
I post this on Google Product Forum 2 days ago. Hope it helps

(updated 29/11/2014)[not perfect but it is a SOLUTION]
The idea of this is to downgrade your nexus 4 without wiping your data, which means stuff you will need includes:
1. adb and fastboot on your computer (I am using mac but you can find it on windows as well. There are tones of website and forums telling you the latest method of getting it onto your computer)
2. factory image of nexus 4(I use 4.4.4, since that's what it was. I don't have the time and energy to try to do the same thing with lollipop. you can try can leave a comment).
update: do NOT try to flash 5.0 rom using this method. You will be stuck at boot loop again
3. usb cable
4. nexus 4 with unlocked bootloader(the process of unlocking bootloader will wipe your device)
5. computer
steps
1. unzip the factory image (something.tgz)
2. for me, after unzipping the .tgz, I still find another .zip inside. unzip that too.
3. hold vol+, vol-, and power button simultaneously to enter fastboot mode
4. open terminal(mac)(it would probably be cmd for windows)
5. connect your nexus 4(in fastboot)
6. to make sure it connect successfully, type "fastboot devices". if something like "005040c0d54bb291 fastboot" appears, you are good. Otherwise, try reconnect your device/boot to fastboot again/use another usb cable
7.now we need to tell the terminal to navigate to the location of the unzipped factory image. to do that, i suggest you put the unzipped folder to somewhere easy to find, like desktop. these are some commands to help you navigate:
"ls" allows you to look at whats inside the current directory of the terminal. For example, this is the output after typing "ls" for me:
some folder Photos
nexus4image.tgz how many folders do you have
5.zip occam-ktu84p
more folder occam-ktu84p.zip
after knowing where you are, use "cd" (below) to go to your folder
"cd" means change directory. For example. "cd Photos" will brings me to the "Photos" folder. And then if I type ls, I will see a whole bunch of photos in my photos. If you go to the wrong folder, type "cd ..", and it will bring you back to the previous folder.
8. flash bootloader.
enter the following command, BUT REMEMBER TO CHANGE THE NAME TO FIT YOURS(DIFFERENT VERSIONS HAVE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT FILE NAME AT THE END(type ls first to help you type the correct name)
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-mako-makoz30d.img
9. reboot bootloader. just copy and paste
fastboot reboot-bootloader
10. flash radio
enter the following command, BUT REMEMBER TO CHANGE THE NAME TO FIT YOURS(DIFFERENT VERSIONS HAVE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT FILE NAME AT THE END(type ls first to help you type the correct name)
fastboot flash radio radio-mako-m9615a-cefwmazm-2.0.1701.03.img
11. reboot bootloader. just copy and paste
fastboot reboot-bootloader
12. flash system
system.img is located inside the zip, use ls to help you navigate. This steps takes the longest time, total time on this step is 87 seconds while the others are less then 1 second
fastboot flash system system.img
13. flash boot
boot.img is located inside the zip, use ls to help you navigate.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
14. flash recovery
fastboot.img is located inside the zip, use ls to help you navigate.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
15. format cache(not the memory, so everything should be fine)
fastboot format cache
16. reboot and wait
this will reboot your device. You probably have to wait for a while to initialise all the apps. after than you are good to go!
fastboot reboot

I decided to go to Android 5.0.1 from CM10.2 on my Nexus 4. I guess I did not think it though that well and relied on some crappy guides too much.
I have CWM Recovery 6.4.3 installed, so I thought I just place the factory image on the phone and install it via CWM. So:
1) Copied occam-....tgz on the phone;
2) Rebooted into CWM recovery;
3) Did wipe cache/format system/wipe dalvik;
4) Went to install .zip menu... and figured out that the file is no longer on my phone.
I thought OK, I do it via ADB and cable, so installed ADB, drivers etc. and connected my phone to my computer. However, adb does not see it most of the time (when at logo, bootloader, recovery) and only once adb managed to see it (*some number* device unauthorized) while the phone was at Google logo. And I realized I forgot to set up the USB debug option. What are my options now? I can go into CWM recovery, but ADB does not see the device, as I forgot to set up recovery before flashing. Help, please?
The computer sees the phone as MLP, but I still cannot see its storage in Explorer, so I cannot copy the .zip file.
Update
I managed to make adb recognize the phone, but consistently says that it is not authorized, which makes sense. And there is not way I can mount it as an external storage .
first of all, you have a serious lack of knowledge. not activating USB debugging in android settings has no effect whatsoever on ADB usage ability when you are in recovery mode. Secondly, installing factory images is not done through recovery (the downloaded factory image zip is not even flashable so it would work not in recovery), as factory images also contain RADIO and BOOTLOADER images that are flashable through fastboot (not the recovery). The only thing from factory image that you could flash via recovery is a zip file named - in case of 5.0.1 factory image - image-occam-lrx22c.zip (you can find it if you unpack the downloaded factory image on your PC). And this zip file is a classic ROM (system, userdata, boot, cache, recovery partitions). However, even if you were to flash the correct zip (rather than the zip containing entire factory image complete with ROM, RADIO and BOOTLOADER) Android 5.0 (or 5.0.1) comes with updated RADIO (maybe bootloader aswell, i did not check), so you are supposed to update that aswell prior to switching to 5.0/5.0.1
now here is what you should do:
1. download 5.0.1 factory image from gooogle
2. make sure you have ADB and drivers for Nexus4 correctly set up (in order to check wheter it works go see point 3 of this instruction set)
3. boot to fastboot mode (vol down+power) and check if 'fastboot devices' gives you back device id (you should open command prompt in platform-tools folder, where both adb.exe and fastboot.exe are present)
4. proceed with this instruction, start at step 8 http://androidforums.com/threads/guide-how-to-flash-a-nexus-factory-image-manually.706533/ (in step 11, name of zip file is the one that is INSIDE downloaded factiory image file (image-occam-lrx22c.zip) and you either do the single zip flash or flashing each of .img files separately (system, boot, userdata, cache, recovery)
ps. 1st android 5.0.1 boot after flashing will take up to 15 minutes. (it took 10 in my case)
Update 2
Thanks dzumagos! Sure, I do not claim to be a specialist by any means. I managed to successfully install Cyanogenmod many times, so thought I would give this one a go as well.
I read your post after I fixed the issue. Basically I did exactly what you suggested, but following another guide and it worked fine, also took it around 15 minutes to load the first time. I noticed I do miss a few tricks from Cyanogenmod
Hi,
rooted 2017 16GB ShieldTV.
Unlocked bootloader.
TWRP was not installed just used to boot once and installed SuperSU (I feel like an idiot learning this only after)
Played with it - removed some critical system apps, and also managed to disable USB debugging (this only as I thought that TWRP was installed - and felt safe to do ANYTHING)
Now - boot to fastboot happens, but there is no adb.
Any saving method?
Original recovery gives options to ADB sideload and USB update.
Tried to use this by putting official Nvidia stock image on USB and but it reports signature failed, and refuses to flash.
Any help?
Thanks guys
SOLVED
Writting this as soon as I could cool down.
Situation:
- Shield ATV 16GB 2017. SW Nougat 5.2
- Unlocked bootloader (every boot gives that safety warning)
- System bootloop on Android circles animation (managed to root it previously and removed some critical apps by mistake)
- NO USB debugging
- NO custom recovery (as process for rooting only used TWRP to flash SuperSU, nothing else)
- Entering fastboot possible only by hardware method (controller connected by USB, hold A+B buttons while Shield is plugged off 10sec, then plug Shield in. Two short vibrations of controller and fastboot screen appears.)
However - NO adb in fastboot. (pinging with adb devices gives NO response). Only option that works is entering official recovery which gives options for adb sideload or update from USB. However - no zip file is accepted due signature check (and I tried tons of them)
Tools
1. Windroid
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2499926
2. Proper TWRP build
http://nvidiashieldzone.com/download/twrp-3-1-1-1-shield-tv/
3. Custom flashable rom (I used Lineage OS for Shield - lite and without Gapps - to speed up booting into environment that works). Put it onto USB drive
4. Oficial Nvidia recovery image (https://developer.nvidia.com/shield-open-source)
5. Minimal ADB and Fastboot (http://nvidiashieldzone.com/download/minimal-adb-and-fastboot/)
6. Nvidia controller plugged into USB port next to HDMI
7. Male-to-male USB cable (for ADB)
8. USB mouse
Process
1. Start Windroid and choose device (Nvidia, Shield TV)
Windroid will automatically download resources in Data folder (incl. TWRP that did not work for me), so dont block it with firewall.
2. Download proper TWRP from link above, and replace the one in Windroid Data/Recoveries folder using same name (Recovery1.img). You will notice difference in sizes. One that Windroid downloads is 25mb, while the one from link is ~ 16mb.
3. Enter fastboot on ShieldTV using hardware method (above mentioned with A+B buttons)
4. Now quickly In Windroid click button Refresh - and status will be updated to Fastboot
5. Then again in Windroid - click Flash TWRP and accept safety questions.
6. After successful flash - reboot into TWRP (here you need USB mouse - so you can unplug Nvidia controller, and plug mouse)
7. In TWRP - Choose Install - navigate to external USB and select flashable zip (Lineage ROM as above)
8. Once booted - enable USB debugging again. (you could be prompted on the Shield TV to allow your PC as debugging device, if so, say yes)
Getting back to full stock ROM with TWRP and unlocked bootloader
1. Install Minimal ADB and Fastboot you downloaded
2. Extract boot.img, system.img and vendor.img from Nvidia stock recovery image (leave other files out), and place these files into Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder (it is in Program Files x86)
3. While on (in LineageOS) connect Shield TV with PC using male-to-male USB cable
4. Start Minimal ADB from destkop icon and run following commands (commands are only in italic)
adb devices (checks if device is online. Its a must to proceed)
adb reboot bootloader (reboots to fastboot)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img (will take longer as its a big file)
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
Once finished - reboot to TWRP, plug in USB mouse (instead of controller) to navigate, and perform Factory Reset.
If you wish to root you can do it via TWRP (which is what I did, flashing SuperSU previosly downloaded to USB)
Thats it - you are back from the dead!
Post updated - with process how to go back to stock
Thanks for this guide. It saved my ass!
Hi phnikola
thank you very much for your super instructions.
With this tool I could bring my TV Shield 2017 back to life, which got stuck in the Boot Animation.
I thought it was a trash can case, also contacted NVIDIA support to see what they were saying.
So I can also send the possible to me for the purpose of repair saved, thanks to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greetings Akki
