[Q] Installed Alliance Rom - Experiencing issues with restart - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5
I installed Alliance ROM onto my computer. The issue I am having is that when I try reboot/restart, the phone starts to restart, but then the screen goes black, and then both buttons light up, and the indicator (top left) stays light, and it remains in that state.
I can not turn it off, even if I hold the power button down for 10 seconds. I have to take out the battery to reset it.
Can anyone please help me.

Assuming you used safestrap since thats the only option, if its in a rom slot(not the stock slot) thats your issue, if you noticed massive battery drain that is also why, rom slots are broken. There is an updated version a dude made but i think it may be for att only, search around in not fully sure.

Sprint S4 wont boot up, in any mode

I was headed home today and my Sprint Galaxy S4 shutoff. It would not come back on, so i removed the battery. When i reinsert the battery, my phone does a quick vibrate, then the white Samsung Galaxy S4 logo screen appears, then disappears, then thats it. Nothing else happens. I have tried different chargers, a different battery, tried download and recovery mode. Nothing has worked so far to get me any further. When i try to go into recovery, blue writing shows in the top left that says Booting Recovery, then it shuts off and nothing else happens. When i plug into a computer, the phone does not connect to the computer.
I am usually pretty good with anything to do with a phone, but this has me stumped.
I have not downloaded any new apps or any different roms or kernels anytime recently. My phone is rooted but still on the stock rom. This phone was rooted about a year ago when i got it, and as far as roms or programming or anthing, nothing has been done to it since then.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Ok so i was wrong, the phone will boot into download mode, but only for about 2 secs, then it goes blank and off again. So it seems like some sort of power issue with the phone itself, as in hardware. Not sure that there is too much that i can do about that, but does anyone have any ideas?
I just read something on here about Samsung having a bad batch of batteries. If I were you I would take my battery to someone that could test it to see if it is holding a charge.
Had the same issue. The dude at sprint said it was a bad update that went out but not sure how true that is due to the fact that i was running a custom rom and recovery. I was running clockword mod recovery and latest CM11 nightly. If you have the insurance I'd say bring it back and they should replace it.
Any fix?
I have just been experiencing this problem as well. My s4 was working fine then all of the sudden the power button would become very sensitive and would think I would want to turn the phone off. I would click the back arrow but the phone would still either turn itself off or reboot. Then it got worse and would get stuck in bootloops. Now I have to reinsert the battery every time for it to turn on. It gets to the samsung logo and then shuts off. I can get into recovery for about 2 seconds and then it shuts off as well. My s4 is not rooted at all. Can someone please help me? I really don't want to pay at least 70 dollars for samsung just to look at it.:crying:

[Q] Screen goes black after booting into android.

Hello, yesterday I started having a problem with my i9505 that I never seen before....
I noticed that when I unlocked the screen, the screen kept black and just the led on the buttons turned on, so I tought the phone had frooze, and I took the battery out then put it back and turned the device on again...
The "samsung galaxy s4 i9505" scren appeared just fine, the cm splashscreen was fine too, but when it finished booting, the screen went black...
I noticed that the screen doesn't give any haptic feedback, the buttons that are lit give haptic feedback normally, and the home button also don't have any feedback, even by pressing it, or holding it...
If I take screenshot, the screen flashes white, but goes back to full black....
If I hold the power button, the options "Power off - Reboot - Airplane mode" appears, and the buttons work, but if I press outside the popup, the screen goes black...
So, there's no hardware problem related to the screen, since it works fine while booting, and on recovery mode
But there's something software related that makes the screen keep black after booting, and it's not brightness related, since the menu by holding power button shows correctly...
Has anyone seen anything like this?
My device is an i9505
The ROM I'm using is optimized cm12.1 from JDCTeam:

Are you using xposed?

No, never used xposed
I've seen this before, but it took me a while to remember where. Usually, a black screen as you're describing occurs when the device has no launcher app. Since there is no launcher app there's no way to do anything. Now, it's unlikely you removed all your launchers so I can only guess you have a software issue with the launcher app itself.
Try doing a dirty flash of the ROM, if you haven't already done so. Don't wipe data or internal storage, but do wipe the cache. See if that solves the problem.

I alreadly dirty flashed the ROM wiping cache and dalvik cache
You're probably going to have to wipe everything then. Make a nandroid backup however, as you can restore your data partition after flashing.
Could be a Rom bug too...

I hope you tried reflashing your CM12. If that didn't work clear all data and flash a freshcopy of CM12. It could be a problem with your Rom too.... you could get an update soon..
I had the black screen problem and it turned out to be the silicon case I had just bought for it. Guessing it was pressing buttons together or something causing a corruption. After restoring it twice, twigged this and binned the case. Problem solved lol

Phone screen is black, but phone still "works".. Cannot get screen to come back on!

Phone screen is black, but phone still "works".. Cannot get screen to come back on!
I have no idea what happened, 5 minutes after being in my pocket I pulled it out and the screen was un-responsive.
The notification light is still on, power light, etc. The power button works, I can push and hold and reboot and the two bottom buttons on the phone light up. I was able to "swipe" my password and it vibrated and accepted it, I am getting vibrate notifications too. I just have a black screen and I can't figure out what to do!
I am rooted, but I haven't had any changes to the phone in a few weeks since I had rooted. I tried using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395 but I cannot figure out how to get the device to show up in the program to use.
I am at a loss on what to do...

Nope, no nothing. No logos, no screen flicker, no colors of any sort - just black. The LED goes blue as it boots up, etc, so I know it does power up.. and once it is done I can even swipe my password and it gives the feedback vibrate..
Just in case this was an issue with the root and whatnot I flashed the stock with Odin and I still am getting black screened.
I contacted VZW support last night, and the chat rep told me they would have to just replace the phone. I am guessing this may be a hardware issue.
Yea if there is no logo whatsoever when you first turn it on, it sounds like a hardware issue, not a ROM issue
I forget exactly which logo shows first (S5 I think) that isn't part of the ROM afaik, the Samsung animated logo is the ROM, so if you don't even get the one before the Samsung animation, doesn't sound good
Is it the G900F? If yes, the only thing I can think that might possibly work, is this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/g900f-debrick-img-lollipop-t3240626
Don't use unless it's the G900F

I don't believe it's G9000F... and I am fairly certain now that it isn't a software issue since everything else 'loads', just not my damn screen.. lol.
Thanks for your help though
The reason I posted that link, is, if the bootloader has corrupted, it is possible you won't get any logo at all, and that debrick image basically tricks the phone into using the MicroSD card to boot into download mode from, where you can recover the main storage
It should tell you under the battery which model S5 it is
If the screen doesn't even light up, then it sounds more like hardware
See if this gives you access

It is connector issue.
Either connector is slight loose or if not then need to Change the connector.
My one has same problem.
Solved for less than 10$.

Samsung S4 stuck on first logo screen

I only use my S4 to listen to Spotify and Podcast, no other apps are present. I use it until I the replacement Headphone thingy comes for my Nexus 5x.
It's my old phone and it worked great until yesterday when my screen went completely pink and then my phone restarted. Now it's stuck on the first logo screen.
Not the Samsung animated logo screen, but the very first completely white text Samsung Galaxy S4 logo, I can't post pictures.
I am using a Cyanogenmod Rom because of the memory leak bug on stock rom.
I can't boot to recovery because it just boots for few seconds, then shuts off, vibrates 2 times and goes back into the boot screen where it's stuck.
The vibration thing happens everytime I try to boot the phone. The logo comes up, it shuts down, vibrates twice and then it gets stuck on the logo indefinitely.
I can boot to Download Mode and I can't boot to Safe Mode.
Any ideas what I could do? I really want to listen to stuff again.
Could be a power button issue. Open the phone, clean the power button contacts with a bit of pure alcohol, quickly press and release the power button several times in a row using a bit more pressure than usual, reassemble the phone, and see if it works.

It's still stuck the same way.
When I got to the Recovery Screen once, the screen turned yellow and phone restarted.
The power button may need to be replaced. Do you have a multimeter to test the connections?
@audit13: I've got a feeling the power button isn't his issue. On a properly working S4 the screen wouldn't flash a particular color before rebooting. Given that this happened to him suddenly, I think he has an issue with the SoC itself.

I have a almost dead S4 i9515 model here, it stopped working.
Here at home I plugged it in and it vibrated continue and nothing more.
Tried a couple of times to go to recovery (unrooted, so the standard recovery) and one time I got a Samsung logo with something blue in the top left side of the screen and nothing else.
Cleaned the power button and started the phone and got the Samsung boot logo, but it got stuck in the logo loop.
How can I check the power button with a multimeter? Is there a trick to get to the connectors?
You need to remove the back frame to access the power button connectors. There should be there of them. Without the power button pressed, touch the probe across the outer two and see if there is any current being passed.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2l_6fwzuIwA
Will try it this weekend, if it is the button I will just take it out, and try it that way till I get a new button.
Thanks for the tip!
Well, the button was not the problem, see next post
While starting it won't pass the Samsung logo boot,
while starting via recovery (power, home vol-up) I still won't pass the Samsung logo screen, but now with the message in the top left screen 'Recovery Booting...'
It's dead I believe, the power button is okay, but after a few difficult boots, it wouldn't pass the Samsung logo.
But now it doesn't respond at all anymore.
Is there a way to access this phone?
Via adb or Odin? I don't think so, if the phone doesn't startup I can't do anything...?
It is bye S4 I guess...
I am blocked here too with a GT-I9506, and can't fin anything, so yeah, i guess it's dead, mine too
Time for something new...
Anyone managed to revive his I9506? I have similar problem, if you can guys look into it and tell me that you have tried this already:

Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900H(exynos) No display, only sound & vibrations...Bricked ?
Hi, I have SM-G900H(exynos).
1. I was on AJ's S7 rom for SM-G900H(exynos) which was good.
2. But I wanted to change the rom but I wanted a lighter rom so I flashed lighter + v1 by yash92duster, after that my phone shows only blank display. I can
hear booting sound & feel vibration but no display.
3. I can go to recovery & download mode but can't see anything due to black/blank screen aka SCREEN OF DEATH. I have tried all Volume rockers + menu button methods for no good.
4. To solve the issue I flashed Official stock rom lollipop for India (INU) (downloaded from sammobile)....everything is good but blank/black
screen is causing me trouble.
5. I went to Samsung service center & they said your display is gone which will cost me Rs.11500/-($200). I don't want to pay 200$ for screen replacing because I think screen is not problem.
6. When the phone is switched off while charging, the notification red light blinks, during boot up the notification light is blue-green &
only multi-tasking button lightens up but the back button is no light.
** I don't have any backups. :crying:
WHAT TO DO NOW ? PLEASE HELP.

If flashing a stock ROM didn't help and the screen never turns on at any point there's a good chance the issue is hardware related. The led has nothing to do with the screen. Otherwise you wound sew an icon at charge. I've had my phone display not work while on a ROM. This is not that issue at all. I could still get into recovery. And the screen came on outside of the ROM.

Yes, there are reported cases of a loose connection behind the screen. But its not an easy fix, you can destroy the screen

Go to a not Samsung phone repair shop and tell them a cable at the back is loose and only works when you push on the screen. They can fix it. Or you can do it yourself but you need to really research it first. And remember its better to be overly cautious as opposed to eager.
