[Q] G900I Taiwanese ROM to Australian ROM? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm about to purchase a Galaxy S5 G900I on eBay from Taiwan and I am was wondering if flashing the Australian equivalent ROM on the device would work? I am planning on using this phone with Virgin Mobile (who run off of the Optus network) so would I have a problem flashing the Optus Australia ROM? Should I just flash the generic Australian ROM? Or would doing either of these brick my phone?
Sorry for the noobish question and thank you in advance!
Cheers,

Bump?
Just to confirm, I want to change from Taiwan (BRI code) to Optus Australia (OPS code) firmware. Both firmware are designed to run on the G900I, so flashing the Australian ROM should be alright?

OKay then, well I found out that all should be good and it wont void the warranty since it's official Samsung firmware. I'm still wondering though, will I receive future firmware updates?

If it's not rooted then it will give you updates. If you root it then you'll have to flash any updates manually in odin. Also remember this simple rule: if a rom is for [INSERTMODELHERE] and your phone is [INSERTMODELHERE] then it is perfectly fine to flash it, no need to start a thread about it. This is the kind of question clueless people ask on yahoo answers. Smh. Next time dare to spend more of your own personal time on research and don't **** yourself when you see a mouse. Good luck cowboy :fingers-crossed:

Typically the Taiwan (BRI) and Hong Kong (TGY) models are NOT compatible with other models, so you may need the PIT file from the firmware you attempting to flash. Otherwise that may brick your device.

did you do this ?

I tried many firmwares from sammobile site, all for g900i with different codes and countries and they all work
I just don't know what's the best one to flash hhhhhh

Firmware update for SGS!!

hey guys, i bought my sgs a month back in singapore and the screen jus gets ppl drooling over it. My current firmware version is i9000dxjf4, and Kies mentions this as the latest firmware but samsung-firmware.webs.com shows that there are three other updates after i9000dxjf4 for the asian region. Is it safe for me to download and update the latest firmware from that website inspite of kies confirming that i'm having the latest firmware. Could u also check out that site its quite cool.
Thanks for your replies....
Kies won't show updated firmware as the Samsung Firmware releases are not official. You can by all means download and install, but they are unsupported and there are risks if you don't do it correctly! Most of us here have flashed new firmwares just fine though.
i was also wondering , i'm in asia so should i install asia specific firmware update or can i download european firmware update. I see that europeans get firmware updates frequently than the asians??

there is a FAQ guide on these boards for roms/firmware etc
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
thanks man my problem got solved.....it was informative....
So, did you download the latest firmware from the Samsung site or went ahead to use one of the custom firmware? Would like to hear if some of the problems that we had been experiencing went away after your upgrade (e.g., GPS, lags, 3G/Wifi switch, etc).
I assume upgrading to the firmware from Samsung does not require rooting. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'll try to stay unrooted for warranty reason.
Cheers.
o you have to be ****ting me, please use the search before falsely getting peoples hopes up......

How to update my phone?

So,I bought a new s4 octa today. All is great ranging from the bright screen to the nice 22 gigs available. But I'm having some kind of problem.I don't get any updates via OTA,also I tried using KIES and it says I have non-Samsung device and that it has latest firmware.
The baseband version is i9500XXUAMDK and the build number is JDQ39.I9500XXUAMDK.
I don't have heating problems as I topped 40 Celsius with 32 in standby or just playing with it,but how do I update?

In what country do you live? Also install CPU Z from Play, that should give you info about the phone`s hard- and software. Non-Samsung device but still the latest software?

I'm so sorry,I was mistaken when saying that it's non-Samsung.It's recognized as GT-i9500 so no problem with recognition.I live in Romania. Are you sure that what I have is the latest software? If not,why don't I receive any updates?
EDIT: I used CPU-Z from the beginning, and I have 32-34 when just browsing or watching vids and it gets up to 40 in gaming.

The I9500 is not beeing officialy sold in Romania, the I9505 is. It is probably an imported device from another country bro. There is no Romanian I9500 rom available on Sammobile, only I9505 roms. The MDK is quite an old rom. You could flash the Russian I9500XXUBMG1 rom with Odin for instance. There aren`t many Euro roms available as far as i can see, the Russian SER is the only one next to the German MBC rom http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=17177. Check it on Sammobile yourself http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9500&pcode=SER#firmware. What was the language when the phone booted up the first time?

You flash official firmware in this case, so no. In what language did the phone boot up the first time, German, Russian or another language? BTW look in item 1 of my signature for how to use Odin.

I highly recommend that you find out more about your version before starting flashing other firmware. Look at the box, it should give you a hint. Also, find out the CSC (see in Kies, somewhere in the files). After you know your CSC, check sammobile and download your existing firmware just for backup so you can always flash it back to original if needed.
Then look if there is any newer firmware for your CSC. If not, you can flash a newer one for i9500 with a different country code.
If you're planning on rooting, you'll lose warranty, but can always turn back to stock if you need the warranty, triangle away and stock firmware will help.
However, if you root it, first thing you should make an EFS backup.
Edit: Oh wait, triangle away is not available at the moment for i9500... Forgot about that.

I found out that my i9500 is designed for South Africa(XFA).Now,when I look on sammobile,I see that the latest firmware for me is MDK(April) and that's the one I have. How the hell the latest firmware for South Africa is the April one when all the other countries have newer ones(from july and sometimes august)?!?

You can flash a newer firmware from another region, or you should consider the benefits (and the risks) of custom roms.

[Q] Update from 4.3

Hi everyone,
I have a question:
I have a Note 3 LTE (SM-N9005) that was purchased in the United Arab Emirates. Now, I want to upgrade the phone to either 4.4.2 or possibly 5.0. So I went to Sammobile trying to find the right version of the lollipop upgrade to flash it via Odin, but there's none for the United Arab Emirates.
So, if I start from the baseband version that I have which is xxudmj7 (from Bosnia and Herzegovina), which country's 5.0 upgrade could I take in order to be able to safely flash the upgrade and have the phone work without a problem? I live in Canada, so I would preferable seek an upgrade that would work with either LTE bands 17, 7 and 4.
If anyone can suggest which upgrade to download from Sammobile to flash, it would be appreciated. Since the phone is from UAE, I don't know whether there is a restriction to flash another country's version
Alternatively, could I be able to flash the leaked version via Odin like in here, with my phone?

Thank you!
You can use any rom for 9005. But Not Hong Kong one. All others.

Thank you. I will try that and report back. I'm assuming that you're advising me to install any because they are all the same aren't they? Since I live in Canada, would you have any suggestion as to which one would "better"?
Thanks again!

Change software from another location???!

I have S6 Edge+ South East Europe software version. Can I install UK version? Could it trigger Knox or make some problem in bootloader or something else. I did this on Note 4, but I have forgot how it went. Last year.

What about csc? It remains as it was in original rom, right? Then OTA wont work, yes?
Up for ota question.
Cant you go back another rom if security version is lower?
And when you go back, will ota work?
if you intall another ROM the phone will rssult having the original CSC and the new one so OTA won't work.
to have the new CSC stick, you need to hard reset afte flashing, i read somewhere

Change official ROM

Yes you can download firmware and flash through Odin, this does not invoke anything root related and leaves Knox intact. I used btu, but dbt is another choice.

AFAIK that's only within the first 5 minutes after the very first boot. There was a sticker on the box on my eur version saying I need to use a eur sim for at least 5 minutes before it would accept anything else.
