So, when plugging it into a monitor and only using the cable, the only options that pop up is the "Multimedia" interface where you can only listen to music or see pictures/videos stored on the phone. Has anyone found a way to do a real video out so you can display your browser or certain apps like Youtube? Or perhaps even enable Webtop so you can view it over just the simple HDMI cable. I hate to have to buy a dock just to use Webtop.

There is some value in the build.prop file that might enable this.
Look for ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=false
Change to true and reboot the phone.
See if that helps.
you need to be root of course.

Well that worked while the phone was booting. After it detects the HDMI cable it goes back to blank and then lets me choose between doing nothing and Entertainment Mode and none bring back the mirror. It was working fine tho. While it lasted...

In the multimedia mode, is it popping up with the Windows Media Player like big icon's view on the monitor?
If so, there is a "Start Webtop" icon that should kick off the Linux webtop.

I can't do that. While you are in Entertainment mode you can change anything on the phone or it kicks out and the screen of blank.
AFAIK the Atrix doesnt have true HDMI Mirroring, only the LG Optimus 2X has got that. I might be wrong naturally.

But the mirroring was working. Except that when it detected the HDMI quickly when I unlocked my phone it went blank and asked me what I wanted to do. Entertainment Mode or Do Nothing and none of them got me back to the mirroring. If anyone has a solution or idea, let me know. I'll test.

Yeah we need to write that down. It was working beautifully. I even so the Moto logo while it was booting and the unlock screen. As soon as I unlocked it OR it detected the HDMI cable, it kicked into another mode and overwrote that = true statement.
I will be rooting it tomorrow so I can dive in and see about getting true mirroring to work. But if we can't get it to do it, this may be a deal breaker for me. I can only assume it is possible somehow.

You can try to delete the following two lines from build.prop:
ro.hdmi.default.app=
hw.overlay.path.config=
back it up first!
Let us know if that worked.
I hope it wont cause a boot up problem (it should not but you can never know).

That doesn't do anything different. I've got it happily mirroring through the boot sequence, drawing the lockscreen and my security pattern to the TV, but just as soon as it unlocks, Moto's crapware takes over and away it goes. It never comes back until it reboots.
Forgive my relative ignorance with Android-- this is only the second one I've ever owned. Is there a way to bypass the restriction and uninstall either the Entertainment Center or the DockProvider packages? I have a hunch that it's one of those getting in the way of things, but I can't be certain.

US TMo Leo running NexusHD2-Gingerbread V3.1 on NAND by tytung
My TMo Leo touch screen stopped working few days ago, b/c of that I can't do anything w/ it except receiving calls (I can pick up call by pressing the call key).
I am getting a Motorola Razr Maxx in couple weeks(hopefully), so I don't want to spend $50 to fix the touch screen.
All the remote control app I seem all require some type of setting up on the phone, which I can't do.
Couple questions
Is there any remote control app that doesn't require setup on the phone?
Is there a way to configure the device so it will boot up w/ WiFi Hotspot turn on?
If the WiFi hotspot turns on on boot, I can at least use my tablet to get online, email and make a call (through Google voice).
Thanks

Seems like youre in a real pickle lol . As far as i know , pertaining to remote apps , there isnt one which does not need initial setup . What you could try though is having someone else setting it up , then extracting the settings files and db files and using adb push to push them onto your phone and try that . Thats all i can think of . Best of luck !
Maybe have problem with your rom...??

Is your screen completly off or can U see your screen?
In android commander there is a virtual input with buttons and U don't need any setup on your phone....only a working ADB connection!
So with this panel U can easily navigate through system settings.
And there is also an input panel.

Ok guys, i have been trying to figure out a way to control my nexus player via 3rd party control system with NO luck! i have been able to establish a good connection with the unit on port 8008, but do not see anything in wireshark or any other software that will give me examples of strings to send to the unit for the basic UDLR,OK,BACK,HOME transports! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me someone out there knows how to do this....i will buy you at least a case of beer i swear!!!!
Are you trying to use the nexus remote to capture the commands? It uses Bluetooth, in order to capture the tcpip traffic you'll need to download the android TV remote app from the play store, and then capture the commands in wireshark.
I plan on trying this myself when i get some time maybe this weekend, but feel free to give it a go and let us know how it goes.

It's not that simple. The input protocol from the Android TV Remote app is encrypted.
Although it's encrypted, it also seems to be documented by Google.
I have never tried implementing it though. We might do it for Control4.

Control4 Driver - Google Nexus Player
Hi There,
Any luck with the Control4 driver for Google Nexus Player?
I'm unable to find my Chromecast (2nd gen) using Quick Connect. Quick Connect does find several Sonos speakers and a neighbor's TV (which is not very helpful since I don't know the neighbor )... I've understood from several articles elsewhere on the net that Quick Connect on the S6 could connect to Chromecast. Is there some setting that I'm perhaps not seeing that I need to toggle (the S7 Edge is my first Samsung phone)? I've tried reconfiguring the Chromecast on my 2.4 and 5 ghz networks, with the phone connected to the appropriate network each time, to no avail. I'd rather be able to cast the screen quickly via Quick Connect than use the Chromecast app. Connections via the Chromecast app are also unreliable by the way.. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I'm also having the same problem I used to do it easily with my S6 Edge but S7 Edge andust S7 not finding my Chromecast.
Why are you using Quick Connect for Chromecast? As long as I'm on the same Wi-Fi network I can send things to my Chromecast. It just works. No need to "connect" each time I want to use it.

Because casting via the Chromecast app requires extra clicks. Open Chromecast app, open hamburger menu, click Cast screen, click Connect to Chromecast. In principle, Quick Connect should allow me to swipe down, click Quick Connect, click my Chromecast. Anyway, it's supposed to work, so I'd like it to work
I cant find my chromecast as well on quick connect in my s6 edge plus (updated to android marsmallow)

I have a Galaxy S6 and until yesterday it was running Android 5.1.1. Now it's running 6.0.1. Before the update Quick Connect worked with my Chromecast (2nd Generation) perfectly. Now it does not recognize it.
I assume your S7 is running 6.0.1 as well.
Was this by design? I hope not and that a patch will be created SOON!
I also hope that a patch can be written to fix this issue.
I'm used to being able to cast / stream to just about anything using my HTC phone.
I'm a first-time Samsung user and, although I love the S7 Edge, I find this a major frustration !
Fortunately, there is an easy enough alternative. ES File Explorer has a Chromecast add-on that you can choose to add the first time you attempt to cast. It works very well.

I haven't come across any information that states one way or the other. I know it's a Samsung feature, not Google (Android), but your guess is as good as mine at this point.
Under developer options in the settings menu (turn on by going to About Phone and tapping Build Number repeatedly) there is an option for Authorizing Wireless Display Devices, but I haven't had the opportunity to see what it actually does yet. By default it's turned off.

Its something that Samsung took out.
There were some apks (ChromecastFrameworkService.apk, RemotePlayer.apk, SecEmbeddedServerService.apk) that was responsible for this functionality that was removed in marshmallow.

I've tried to flash these APKs from the Lollipop ROM, but after that my S6 failed to boot. Didn't tried to debug to see whats going on (maybe installing manually instead of flashing resolve this, I don't know).
For those who wants to investigate, here (XtreStoLite Deodexed Aroma Add-on Package 2.4a) is a package that has these APKs. Maybe you guys are luckier than me.

Since I wouldn't know even the first thing about debugging, there's little chance of me figuring anything out except that it appears I won't be able to get this functionality back anytime soon
Hopefully there will be someone out there who wants to investigate (and find a solution)
I love the S7 Edge, but I really do miss HTC connect and it's ability to connect to anything.
Samsung's Quick Connect is really a step backward and Smart View is useless as well..

How does one that is not technologically minded do this?
If anyone of you here still need some guidance on how to enable and use chromecast here it is.
Go to the playstore and download the chromecast app which can be found here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.chromecast.app
You can add the chromecast app as a shortcut to your home screen or to the "App Edge" feature.
And or you can also download the Google Chrome browser at the playstore which can be found here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.chrome
When you see the chromecast icon on top of the chrome browser's title bar click it to start chromecasting.
Quick Connect has nothing to do with chromecast and will not connect to the chromecast dongle.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

Yes, I've understood that the problem is that Samsung has crippled this functionality in their 6.0.1 version of Touchwiz. I haven't found a way to get the functionality back despite posts in several different forums. The Google Cast app does allow you to connect to Chromecast, but the process is more cumbersome than casting via the quick settings menu. I hope someone finds a solution for this problem.

4. Is there any call recorder app that doesn't require my phone to be rooted??
5.how to record slow motion video? I am unable to locate the option in the stock app...

1. To get wifi streaming to your Samsung TV you'll need to edit your build.prop (requires root access) and add the commandlinde;
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
3. Enable developer settings and scroll all the way down, there you'll have an option to add "hold back for 3 seconds to kill app"
Those are the only ones I can give an answer to right away.

2) That is a feature offered in custom ROMs. Stock firmware doesn't incorporate anything as such.
5) While the camera app is running, you will need to swipe from the left side of the screen. When the menu opens up, select 'Slow Motion'.

Just in case that you decide to root, you can follow this thread. I has every bit of information that you would need. An advice, don't just skip to the steps, consider reading it from the start. So that you will have a better idea of how everything works.
As for developer options, you will need to enable it. Go to Settings > About phone, and tap on the build number for about 5 times. And then, 'Developer options' should be visible just above 'About phone'.
