[Q] Can't connect to ADB, sdcard got wiped - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I plug in my Nexus 7 to the computer, the USB options would not show up, no matter the USB cable. It still charges, though.
I tried to flash a new ROM with F2FS filesystem, so I formatted system and data in Recovery to reflect that, but when I went to Install the rom via TWRP (2.8.3.0), it apparently erased the internal SD card and now I have no system, no sdcard, or basically anything on the sdcard but the recovery. I can't get my computer to detect the device in ADB mode. What can I do?

Have you tried the mount usb in TWRP? If you formated every thing you should be able to move rom to sd card.

I haven't, but I don't have a USB OTG cable to do that.

You should be able to use computer and see sdcard.
I've done it when nothing else was working.

I might not be understanding you correctly. Do you mean connecting the tablet to the computer, and then in TWRP, "mounting" the USB OTG? I tried that, and the USB OTG refused to become checked.
I can "see" the sdcard in the TWRP file browser, it's just that the sdcard got wiped, so now it's empty.

My phone wont promt me to mount my SD card when i connect via USB to my laptop

I tried to figure out how to setup adb, and in the process tried to reinstall HTCSync2.0.25.
Ever since then (it may be a coincidence though) my phone does nothing but charge when i ahve it plugged into my laptop. I tried different cords, ports and computers and still no notification telling me to mount.
Is there a setting that i touched that may have turned off mounting?
Did i somehow delete the drivers? If so, what do i need to download because clearly HTCSync2.0.25 isnt doing anything for me since i tried removing and reinstalling + rebooting several times.
Any tips?
EDIT: Ive never had any problems before and i cant remember if i had any when i first got the phone or not.. I'm on windows 7
are you using stock ROM or? does you phone play sound when it connect to the laptop?
everything is stock htc sense.
no sound is made. its like the phone doesnt exist when i plug it in. it just charges. At first i thought it was my laptop, but then i tried my other computer and it didnt work their either..
Have you tried rebooting your phone?
yes, more than once.
Rebooting hte phone with the sd card unmounted (from the phone settings). Rebooting with usb debugging enabled. rebooting with usb debugging disabled. rebooted my laptop. everything
bad data pins on the usb port on the phone?
i doubt that. it worked fine 2 days ago.
Do you have DoubleTwist installed? I tried it once and it messed up my usb mounting and media scanning.
nopei havent installed any new apps between the time where it worked, and it didnt.
one day it did, the next it didnt.
Maybe its a driver error? wehn you first plug in a new htc magic, will it see the SD card or will it not do anyhting until your have the proper drivers? because i just reinstalled htc sync for the 10th time and it still doesnt see anyhting
Can you mount via recovery?
If yes then it's not hardware, cable or your usb port. Likely rom or app related.
If not then it's hardware, cable or your usb port.
well i dont know how to mount via usb, but the screen says fastboot usb when i plug it in.
Nothing comes up on the computer..

What kind of recovery are you using?
Reboot to recovery and mount the sdcard from there.
Plug it into your computer.
Does a removable disk show up?
Try a different sdcard
Try a different usb cable
Try a different computer even!
If all three fail then it's probably your phone (hardware).
Try to mount via recovery (sdcard in the phone, rebooted to recovery and depending on your recovery version... in this example I'll use Clockwork Recovery go to Partitions Menu > mount USB storage.)
If successful then it's rom related.
If fail then hardware (sdcard, phone hardware, computer hardware, usb cable) related
It's not difficult to troubleshoot. We just need to eliminate possible problems to pinpoint whether it's your sdcard, phone, usb cable or computer.
Thanks forhelping me. I appreciate it.
But I don't know how to mount via bootmenu. Il try a different sd card when I get home.
Also I got the stock recovery. Nothing had ben changed
Alright i just put in another sd card and still nothing. would formatting to factory settings help?
But before i do that, is there an app that backs up all my data and then restores it?

Uhhh.... yeah. There are several apps on the Market that will back up your data and restore it. Mybackup Pro ($$$) and Titanium Backup (Free) are the most popular.
But I would suggest installing a custom recovery first.
Try clockwork (use my signature) by downloading Rom Manager.
As long as you have root, (you do have root right?) then you can easily install a custom recovery.
Honestly though, it sounds like a problem with your computer or cable. If you can access the sdcard from your phone then it doesn't sounds like an issue with the card.
yea i guess its a problem with my phone then. I just did a factory reset and still nothing. I tried different cords on different computers so its unlikely that they're all broken..
And no i dont ahve root. Thats why i needed to connect, i was trying to root my phone!

Yup. It sounds like an issue with the usb port on your phone then.
It seems like it's not recognizing the cable when it's plugged in to switch to enable usb mounting.
but how could this happen so randomly? i had it plugged in and no problems, then when i went to replug it in a minute later nothing happened.
It's not a driver problem?
My computer gave em a popup once saying the device malfunctioned or something

It could be a driver, but if you tried a different computer then it's like you said... it's unlikely that all your computers are having the issue.
Just for the hell of it, uninstall the drivers, plug the phone in and try mounting it.
We just need removable storage and that doesn't take any special drivers at all.
yea thats what i tried yesterday, which still didnt work
i'm on hold with HTC now.. i'll see what they say. it's still under warranty
I cant believe this randomly happened.

[Q] Please help, TWRP, no OS, no Mount, Wiped my phone

Hello from south korea
I have a twrp 2.6.3.0 installed d802 G2 and I accidently wiped my internal sd card so my device only boot to twrp not OS.
I tried to mount but I can only find exclamation mark on device manager which means I cannot use adb, fastboot, adb sideload, flash recovery what so ever..
I've been searching xda forum for about 10 hours and still get no results. I formatted, wiped, factory resetted, tried to install superSU(but won't work)
I think i've tried basically everything I can try.
Any suggestions? please help.
Can't get into download mode also,,
pushed volume up button and plugged usb -> boot to twrp
pushed volume down button and plugged usb -> boot to twrp
pushed both volume buttons and plugged usb -> boot to twrp
It gets me crazy and still stuck on here.. I think my phone is real bricked..
any suggestions?

Buy a usb otg cable and use a thumbdrive or better, get a microusb thumbdrive like this one:

Perhaps by connecting the cable mentioned above would allow you to get into download mode and then heading in this direction: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370

Do you have the UTG cable connected? Have you tried connecting it at different points of the process?
(Just throwing out ideas here....)
You could try PMing jkang (the OP) to ask him specifically what he did.

what's the difference between UTG & OTG Cable? if these are the same , yes, I test my OTG Cable on another device [SAMSUNG Note 2] and it's work...
I had the same problem over the weekend. I wiped my entire phone from twrp, and the usb mass storage from the otg cable was not working for any of my usb sticks. I had no way to put files onto my computer.
But, then I used twrp's android adb sideload and managed to get clearn rom xe 1.1 onto my device. Then I used twrp to install the clean rom onto my device.
Took me like 6 hours to fix it. Adb sideload might be a good option for you.
I'm in the same boat.
USB OTG doesn't connect though, I chose install in TWRP, but I don't see my USB drive.

Had it, wouldnt even charge. A combo of plugging/unplugging multiple times, w/rebooting enabled me to charge it, then i flashed the official 21s or 19s, dont remember now, and it started working. Also, sometimes just reversing the cable (phone side) did the trick.
Try rebooting w/ different cable and see if that helps the pc connectivity issue.

I'll try that, but it seems that there was glitch in the current some sort of fluctuations and it maybe fried post of the USB connector. The thing is I simply can't root and install any custom ROM other than that it is perfect. Thanks for sharing!

Nope... Sold it to someone who claimed to be able to fix it. It's a shame, I loved that phone.
I've just received a "new" Pro3 from Aliexpress which has this exact problem. Although it looks new, the dust and fluff in the USB connector gave away that it's been reconditioned.
I have another 2 of these phones which connect to my PC fine.
The PC doesn't even detect a connection with this one though.
Now I can't unlock and replace EUI with LineageOS. I'm not going to use EUI.
I have the same problem. It is charging but cannot connect to pc. It must be a windows 10 problem, because with windows 7 it connects ok.

Your issue is just the driver, update the drivers on the PC and you will be fine. Also make sure in developer options that usb debugging is turned on and default usb settings are on file transfer mtp.

I have written these instruction many, many times. the answers are here if you search.
Remove all external hard drives from PC
Update PC
Install All in One Tool, use AIT to update android/leeco drivers/adb fastboot/enable system wide privileges.
Enable developer options> oem unlock, adb debugging and file transfer (MTP)
If in TWRP Recovery, the system must be mounted to be seen by the PC
If the drive is encrypted > it has to be formatted ( Not wiped) Reboot to Recovery > Issue resolved
Read the signature, its highly applicable

Okay, try using an older version of Twrp Recovery. ( A Non Treble Version)
Use OTG if you have it. Otherwise place te TWRP image on the SD storage > When installing your will need to select install IMG ( instead of zip) Install to Recovery, Reboot to Recovery. Click Mount, select data, and erase all of the encrypted data on your phone by choosing Wipe, Format > type yes, Reboot to Recovery. ( check boxes) you want the the phone to be read/writable.
At this point go to File manager > SD Card> You should only see a TWRP folder > Fo to Wipe Advanced wipe, select everything except your OTG drive > Wipe > Reinstall your Rom, Gapps, and Magisk. Did this work?
If no,
Reboot to TWRP recovery
* Select Advanced Wipe
* Select "Repair or Change File System".
* Select Change File System > Even if its already ext 4 select it again
* Format Data> Yes. Reboot to recovery > Full Wipe > Finished
* Now /data is mounted back. > You should be able to install whatever you want. > hopefully > if not you may have a hardware issue, such as the usb card, flex cables or worse.
@tsongming Good morning friends I have my Leeco Le Pro 3 with no system installed, just twrp working. When plugging the otg or the PC he does not recognize anything, I already bought 3 otg and tested with 4 cables and more than 5 flash drive, all this and without success. I installed all the necessary drivers from which, downloaded the tool all in one, tried the qfil mode, but the phone is not recognized on the PC. Has anyone managed to solve this problem?
I have 3 X720 and one of this has got the same problem.
TWRP 3.2.1.0 could not recognize OTG USB and Internal storage. Now Lineageos doesn' start . The start is in loop.
PC doesn't see X720 also in fastboot when the other two in fastboot works.
I think it's a hardware problem!
I have also chankged Micro USB Charging Dock Port Charger Connector, but nothing is changed.
How could I make?
Thanks

Do You think that changing the dock port will be the solution ?
Is the change difficult ?

Z17 Lite won't boot after v1.05 ROM update

Hello,
After rooting the system I tried to upgrade the stock firmware.
I probably did something wrong because now the device won't boot.
At startup it shows the "Nubia... Powered by android" screen and does not continue with the boot process.
I still have access to TWRP so I tried to wipe everything and to install the ROM from TWRP.
It looks as if the ROM is installed correctly, but it requires reboot and after reboot the same "Nubia... Powered by android" screen comes up.
I also tried the emergency recovery but that installs only from external sd card (that the Z17 lite does not have), or from OTG device. I connected a USB thumb drive with OTG cable but it doesn't recognize it
At this point I have no idea what else to do.
I'd be happy for any assistance.
TIA

UPDATE: I tried different USB drives. One of them mounted. I found that this one was formatted in FAT. Since this is a small 2Gb drive that cannot hold the ROM, I found another drive that was formatted in ExFAT that also loaded correctly.
I loaded the ROM as suggested and now the phone is working again.
My guess is that the phone can't read NTFS file format in emergency recovery mode.

Nexus 6p stuck in twrp with no os and no connection to pc

i made the boneheaded mistake of deleting everything off my phone in twrp (3.2.1-0) and ive had little success in trying to recover it.
1. my pc will not recognize it when its plugged in, this was also an issue when it had an os on it. ive tried to install the google usb drivers as well as the hisuite drivers with no success
2. i bought a usb otg adapter so i could possibly push the new os through there but when ever i try i get 0mb when trying to select the storage in the mount section of twrp. ive also tried reformatting the usb multiple times but that didnt work either.
3. there is no connectivity while in fastboot as well as adb
I'm caught in a tight situation and don't have the means to buy a new phone if anyone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it
