Hello everyone,
Some days ago I purchased a 3G capable Xoom from a US seller through eBay. I live in Athens, Greece. The eBay ad specifically said that the device was unlocked but apparently it is not; it requires activation from Verizon to use the mobile broadband plan. I tried activating it with my local 3G card and, although I am getting 3G bars, it will not activate (obviously!).
I tried flashing the device with Tiamat's 2.2 ROM but it did nothing about the activation part. Is there a way to bypass the activation or any way at all to use 3G with this device? After paying a huge monetary sum for import duties I cannot simply ship it back and ask for a refund. I am royally scr€#%d if it does not work, I bought this tablet for its 3G capabilities and it is useless to me without it.
Thank you in advance!
Hello,
I'm thinking of buying a Galaxy Tab 10.1 wi-fi 4G (with Verizon) 32GO.
The question I can't find answer for nowhere is this:
The 4G is set with Verizon, witch is in United States. I live in Canada. Is it possible to use that tablet only on wi-fi from Canada without an account to verizon?
If so, can I later decide to change from verizon to choose a local provider to use 4g?
Thanks a lot!

Yes the Verizon tab can be used without an active SIM card as basically just a wifi device, HOWEVER there's a couple of issues you should be aware of.
1. If you're looking to apply custom ROMs to the device from this community know that of the various versions of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 the Verizon model is the least supported.
2. Most importantly be sure that the broadband network you're intending to use the device on ultimately is actually compatible with the device. I don't believe the Verizon tab is intended to be a full fledged international device but I could be wrong. It's possible that Verizon is the only network that the Verizon version of the GT 10.1 is compatible with.
If it were me and the decision to go with a mobile broadband plan is several months away I'd go with a used wifi only GT 10.1 for now and then put it up for sale again later to buy a tablet with mobile data plan on contract or used.
Thanks for your respond!
I think I'll do as suggested, but only a wi-fi one for now... And see later!
Now.... you are talking about ROMs... I'll have to learn about that! I don't know what it means!

hi, i want to purchase the nexus 7 lte but it's important that i be able to use it with my existing verizon data plan (eventually). i've read the threads and understand they will be certifying it (eventually). i don't want to wait to purchase it so i want to make sure i'm buying the correct model (for verizon activation later). i noticed there are 3 versions being sold at google playstore: 1) with AT&T sim, 2) with T-Mobile sim 3) Unlocked. would the unlock version be the correct device to get or will they be coming out with another model, once verizon completes their testing and certifies it? thanks for any advice.

I purchased the Google Nexus 7 LTE (2013) which came with the T-Mobile SIM.
I took my microSIM card out of my Samsung Galaxy S4 (verizon) and put it into my Google Nexus 7 LTE (2013) and verizon LTE data worked fine. I forwarded my Verizon phone number to my Google Voice number, and used the N7LTE as my phone for a week. However, I found that GrooveIP and Talkatone apps would sometimes miss incoming google voice calls even when I was using WiFi for data. So, I moved my verizon microSIM card back to my phone.
It is my understanding that all three models of N7LTE offerred by Google are the exact same tablet. The only difference is which promotional microSIM card is included in the box.
Good Luck,
Howard
P.S. I do not know if Verizon can see that I am using the phone microSIM card in the N7LTE tablet. If Verizon can see this, then it is possible Verizon can take actions like dropping data service or cancelling my account or whatever else one can imagine. I do not know if Verizon can see which device the microSIM card is installed in. I also don't know if Verizon cares or not.

I made that post for new buyers like you. All 3 versions work on all 3 carriers. Buy the t-mobile one since theyre the same price and keep the sim with free 2gb data for a rainy day. You can use your existing sim (microsim) in your new tablet until it is certified, which, knowing verizon, could be a long wait. Just know that if you have a nanosim or a traditional sim card then you will need a cheap adapter.

Hey everyone, I bought a used unlocked G900T on ebay. It's blocked from T-Mobile due to nonpayment, but the seller (who has 100% positive feedback) put his AT&T sim card in it and confirmed that it DOES work on AT&T. I have not received it in the mail yet but the phone appears to NOT be blacklisted, just blocked on T-Mobile and T-Mobile MVNOs. This will work on my service because I use Cricket (an AT&T MVNO). I was wondering, if this phone DOES ever get blacklisted for any reason, will my Cricket account get suspended for using a blacklisted device? If so, how would I get my account unsuspended?
Thanks.
Oh, and even if the device does get blacklisted, I'll just use it as a media player. I got it for a pretty decent price.
Posting this as a heads-up for anyone looking for a fairly inexpensive Moto G4 Play.
Target carries the Consumer Cellular variant of the Moto G4 Play; XT1607 for $99.99.
It can be SIM unlocked for a couple dollars on eBay and bootloader unlocked through Motorola.
NOTE: 15% off from now until end of Monday, November 28 @ Target.com
(Thanks mrw187!)

This is confirmed XT1607 model? I don't want to buy then find out its XT1609.
:crying:
Yes, it is XT1607.
It is listed underneath the battery on the IMEI/Serial Number sticker and once you navigate into the bootloader.
I will post pictures later in the day.

I just put my buddies sim from metro PCS in it worked for one call and then stopped working. I'm betting it's more metro than anything, when he got an unlocked phone it wouldn't work till he called them and gave the imei number. You might not have to sim unlock with this bad boy I have a feeling it already is being that there's no x1607 unlock auctions out there, just the Verizon variant

Since you have one and were considering it for RingPlus, did you check the MEID on R+ device checker - https://my.ringplus.net/device_validation_requests/new
Someone checked on Slickdeals for R+ and Ting and it was not eligible (Ting said GSM, but not CDMA).
So these may not be in Sprint's whitelist database. And if they're not, you won't be able to activate on Sprint or a Sprint MVNO.
Got this CC Moto G4 Play Target deal $85, thinking save alittle cash. However, I think its time to rebox and return now as it really doesn't appear that it will ever work on Sprint MVNOs, despite having the right radio. I tried RingPlus checker and it fails; I guess its not on the Sprint whitelist. I bought an Unlocked XT1607 from Frys BF deal $109 and it passes RP checker as expected. So, for $25 less, you can get this CC XT1607 working on 3 of the 4 US carriers. I had to buy a SIM unlock code on ebay for $2, after which, I tested it successfully with a Verizon tracfone SIM, as well as a Freedompop global GSM SIM and they both worked great. I also had no troubles getting the bootloader unlocked from motorola, TWRP, Root, SuperSU, and finally- Xposed framework. But, in the end, I really bought this phone because of its "universal" radio and removable battery, and with one of the 4 carriers not working, its not worth the $25 savings over just getting the fully unlocked model; at least IMO.
Is it possible to use the native android hotspot without rooting the phone? Or is this hotspot programmed for CS use only? Or possibly even blocked as are some tracfone branded phones? Once in a while I need to use hotspot on the road, but not wanting to root or anything special.
I just tested the tethering function on the CC Moto G4 Play and it seemed to connect and work just fine. Note that my test set was rooted, but I didn't make any changes to enable the tethering. Also, for what its worth, I was testing using a freedompop global SIM, but that shouldnt matter either. Hope that helps- tested just for you, before I return it today!

Did the same thing, I had two of these for my parents and ring plus didn't like the imei. Wound up grabbing two from b and h last Monday and they showed up last night. Ran both through ring plus and they're good to go!

well, I still have this thing because target return period STILL isnt up due to holidays (my reciept says return thru 1/24!), so I'm trying to fire it up on BOOM! but having troubles. will not connect to the "V" network. Shows my BOOM number when I insert the SIM and everything appears the same in the "cellular networks" menu including the correct APN. PRL version is also the same as my two other working handsets I've swapped the SIM into for test. The other two sets (LG Transpyre, and Moto G4 Play xt1609) are both Verizon branded phones, and of course, this one is Consumer Cellular but SIM unlocked, and bootloader unlocked. So, it seems like I need to update the PRL, or Profile, or APN, or something. Maybe run some #*#* codes? any clues?? I called BOOM but the rep I got wasnt technical.

I wonder how many of these are floating around on the used phone market now, and if there's an easy way to check. I guess just have the eBay seller share the IMEI with you and test it on Sprint's BYOD checker? Would it tell you if it's explicitly not going to work, or only "We can't activate this phone online.", which is ambiguous?
Can't find an unlock service on eBay for CC... at least not any for $2. Does anyone have a SIM unlock code or other method to use this phone on different carriers?
I'm trying to buy these broken phones off eBay, fix them, and sell them.
