i cant figure out how to re enable the ati hardware acceleration
i installed core media player and it disable it... any ideas?
Hmm, this is an interesting question. I remember such a warning when I installed Core Media Player as well. I didn't realise it's a global hardware acceleration switch that was turned off. That may explain why my device is sluggish...

Yikes. Me, too.
I didn't realize that either. I wish I saw this thread before I installed this morning.
Email the developer of Coreplayer and ask?
Can you not go under preferences on the video page and re-enable it (sorry if this is a silly quesiton)?

well i uninstalled it... so no
If it is disabled, which aspects of performance would be affected and by how much? Anyone tested it yet?

Well, isn't it just a matter of areinstallation, activate ATI, and uninstall again?
Don't think its disabled accross the whole device...
Well you're all making valid points regarding this, but I'm inclined to believe (despite the notice during installation), that it doesn't deactivate the hardware acceleration across the whole device, but only disables its use in the mediaplayer as default due to incompatibility. There are too may other aspects of the Athena that would depend on it functioning...like the camera and WMP10 certainly still uses it as MP4 video playback in ASP format is still considerably better than in Coreplayer or TCPMP...meaning hardware acceleration is not disabled by default in WMP10, in IMHO therefore not disabled by default throughout the device...only in coreplayer/TCPMP.
Just my observations...not 100% certain. Plus 2D games are greatly accelerated by the Imageon chip and I must say I have no issues in that department either.
Hi there
If I understand correctly, you're talking about the BMP-caching functionality of the Imageon. If so, no need to uninstall TCPMP, you can re-enable BMP caching from the "Options" menu, then "Options..." menu item, then "ImageOn" tab, then first check-box.
You'll need to soft-reset the device for that setting to take effect, which leads me to think that strangely enough, it IS a system-wide setting....

You mean the "Disable OS Bitmap Caching (Advised!)" setting? Hmm, I already have that unchecked so guess I'm OK?
-Krip
Yep, that's what I mean, from what you described (the question asked during TCPMP installation and all).
So yes, you're ok about that, although leaving this box unchecked *sometimes* causes strange artifacts in movies (parts of images that don't disappear as quickly as they should, for instance). But these occurences are so rare that I also left the box unchecked.
Hey, I didnt find any good threads about the new official rom that HTC uploaded the 9th of december.
I see a lot of peope that talk about the sms-issues, improvements of graphics but the only improvements I can see is (look below) and the upgrades there does not seem tempting enough for me to reset all data.
Improved Functions:
1.Flipping back and forth between songs is easier than ever. Whether you are listening to a defined playlist, or letting your phone shuffle your songs for you, your music will play continuously and fluidly.
2.Taking full advantage of the G-Sensor, Opera can switch seamlessly from portrait to landscape mode to allow more flexibility and allow for you to browse your websites however you want.
3.Staying connected to your loved ones is as important to you as it is to us, and we’ve enhanced our voice quality even more in this update. Now updated, we’re delivering crystal clear sound quality, making it even easier to feel close to your loved ones, even when you are on the move.
Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer version than what is currently installed on your device. If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reinstall the software.
To check what version is installed on your device, click Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, and note the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version.

there is more
I found more of it... sms sending and vieving impoved for example
Weeds2000 fixed the orientation on our Folio100 to work with games like Asphalt5 and now its possible to play, although graphics are still kinda messed up. but other games like the 3d tilt works nearly perfect now too.
you might find it useful, and VEGAn mod might be able to include this as my FolioTntMod is based of the TNT framework...
Find the download patch i made for our folio in this thread.
it also include a full 360 rotation fix, if you need it
As we all share the same Tegra2 platform and can nearly swap experience here, im posting this to share the fixes weeds2000 made for us...
Hope you find it useful..
Note:
The patch i made might actually work fine as update.zip on your tablet as well, or might need minor adjust to install, but let g tablet modders fix this if needed.
at least now you know its available.
Thank you! One question - do you know what file(s) were altered for the 360 rotation fix? Was it a lib file, for example?
EDIT: Also, to any other modders looking at this, the system.img is a ext2 filesystem image, NOT a yaffs2 image.

Roeby wan Kanobi, is this something that could work and be added to TnT Lite? My Clockwork back up just completed
Yes, I can package it as a supplement - I just need to know what to package.
Getting my dev unit ready with TnT Lite 3.1.2. There's also a new music player apk I need to test out.

This could be another watershed update Also- with the accelerometer corrected, folks will be getting exercise by holding up the G while playing games
added:
Perhaps the one extra update that would be nice is a DSP manager so dB level or gain increases can be made. Modders released a DSP manager on the Incredible that allows increases to 3.5mm and speaker output. Hardware based EQ too.
Perhaps being too picky, but louder speakers would be nice.
Did you see.. they provided the SOURCE!!!!! This is what we need!

What does the patch change? Would is break things when the application developer fixes the orientation code in their game.
We saw this problem fixed in the application in the Gallery 3D application by google, not in framework. http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/09/one-screen-turn-deserves-another.html

okay here are some details.
the framework.jar modified comes from this file: update-smb_a1002-3338-user.zip
the library should be generic, but is required for the gsensor/rotation/orientation fix as part of the new framework.jar changes.
the 2 primary folders in the framework.jar changed are /android/hardware /android/view
you should be able to easily spot the differences in filesizes..
do note: there is another change android\os\Environment.smali as i modified it to work with /mnt/sdcard and /mnt/sdcard/sdcard-disk0 and /mnt/usbdisk-disk0 for compatibility with folio mount functionality.
here is the "vold" also different but works fine with the tap'n'tap framework.
remember that /etc/vold.fstab needs changed to support the more new mount devices if you wish to use that one too.
360 rotation fix is in android\view\WindowOrientationListener$SensorEventListenerImpl.smali
orientation fix is
android\hardware\SensorManager*.smali
but again, the framework.jar is Tap'n'Tap based, so works directly on top of r3338 edition.. and i made a patch in my section with just framework + lib files included.

No, as far as i understand, weeds2000 only made the hardware swap sensor reading, so now it acts like a portrait mobile phone, where our Tegra2 has the chip rotated once 90degree.

Hmm, so it does a 90 degree rotation. And the device is still a default landscape device. We definitely need to make sure there are no negative effects on games that utilize the acceleromether and worked fine before.
I would assume that the android developers would recommend making this change to framework, instead of handling it in applications if there weren't implications.
Thanks for the explanation - this is something I suspected would fix it, but it's good to see that someone had pushed the idea all the way through to an actual fix.
So, I suspect that when the device boots up, it should be in portrait mode initially (until the sensor kicks in).

That makes more sense to me if that is true.
I read through the code ... Prior to the code change they were performing the rotation either for Acceleration minus Gy on the y-axis
or Acceleration minus Gz on the z-axis and NOT Acceleration minus Gx on the x-axis. Now the axis swap is always occurring... under all 3 conditions irregardless of sensor.
Dont know why there was an exclusion in the first place for Acceleration minus Gx on the x-axis...
When I get back I will look through the code some more...

if Google didn't "invent" the different way of reading sensors, there would only be one way of doing it, so developers would not be able to see it, so an update to like 2.2 or higher is now an requirement, right? but if older games do not check, it would work with them, so this fix solves it as i see it.
putting back androidos orientation handling to its original state, as many developers should be reading it.
I have ported the fix for both TnT stock and lite. As well as Vegan beta 4.

remember its all done by weeds2000 , i cannot/will not take credits for his effort here, i am just sharing the good work done on this fix.
I have released a new version of the fix, this should clean up all the remaining issues with the accelerometer/compass. Code is also much cleaner now. Some weird hacks you may have seen were caused by the legacy API which was used by my test game.
Only known issue up to now is that the mouse coordinates are also rotated.
The source can be found in the zip file attached to the original post, I hope that all changes are prefixed with // XXX:
The source files are based on the nvidia-froyo tree.

Does this work for the VegaN Ginger Edition, or is that fix built into the ROM, I think I am having issues with some games on that ROM.

I think you can write the developer and tell , that the games is not working normally.. all other games work fine, so why would one game stand out, only reason, bad programming, or misunderstanding of androidOS and orientation. maybe developer thought he should fix the "orientation" in his game on tablet, and forgot other trying to make it reverse.. so: bad programming and choice of developer..he should follow guidelines and not his ideas.
It turns out that the recently circulating hulu-capable hacked version can and does play back at full 30fps in 720p on the Transformer. Success!
This lead me to question why it would work though. I downloaded this hacked version (Google search it, I won't link it here) and also downloaded the original 10.3.185.22 version it is based on (it's about 2 months old). Testing the hacked version and I do indeed get hardware accelerated 720p. I disassembled them to figure out what was changed between the hacked and the official version and the only change is one line in the Flash Player library that reports to the browser what version of flash is running (Sort of like a UA string hack for Flash). This isn't enough to disable hardware acceleration though, and guess what: strangely enough, I also get hardware acceleration on the non-hacked version as well. Crazy that!
So, the tl;dnr version: For some reason, the latest Flash Player does not accelerate 720p video. I still don't know why. An older version (10.3.185.22) DOES accelerate Flash and can be used to fix this nagging problem. Download it here:
http://www.filesonic.com/file/1037676654
OR HERE:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10724980/Flash.Player.10.3.185.22.Android.apk
To install:
First remove any installed version of flash (go to market -> my apps -> Flash Player -> uninstall)
Copy the downloaded .APK to your device and run. No root required, but you will need to turn on non-market app installs.
Before testing, reboot into recovery and wipe cache. (The whole point is to wipe the browser cache - People report that this helps. If you like, you can just go to settings -> applications -> manage applications -> All -> Browser -> Wipe Cache)
Test playback on 720p stream or use http://www.youtube.com/my_speed and look at what the 'video fps' tells you
EDIT: You may have to run this in the STOCK BROWSER. Opera calls the Froyo version of the library which does not allow for hardware accelerated playback.
Some other notes:
The youtube test video still reports software decoding - this is normal, it's looking for the PC HW accel module, which Android does not have.
Some people are still have trouble making this work. I'll admit, it's sort of like voodoo - I've torn through the files in the .APK and the only file that is changed in the old version is a compiled library that I can't (legally) decode. Without source code, I still can't tell you why it works for some but not for others.
Apparently some people never had problems in the first place. Congratulations - we don't need to hear about it here. Unless you know why it works for you and not for others, don't add to the length of this thread.
It's not the latest version, but nothing significant has been added since this one, and at least it works right!

This version is the modified 10.3.185.22 version that is NO DIFFERENT than the official .22 version except for the modification one line that tells the browser it is a Windows based version of flash instead of Android.
If you install this version of Flash, hardware acceleration works but you cannot update via the Market (even though it tell you that you have an update) because it will fail every time.
The official version I linked will not play Hulu but does update via the market and at least for now, seems to retain hardware acceleration.

Strange.
Gary, can you ADB to your device?
If so, can you
Code:
adb uninstall com.adobe.flashplayer
And then try installing this. Note that it does take a few seconds for the video framerates to stabilize due to some inherent WiFi flakiness in the ASUS drivers.

I don't have access to adb atm, but I figured uninstalling Flash through the GUI rather than adb would have the same effect (and I did uninstall Flash before installing that version). I also tried restarting the browser, cycling opengl on/off, and rebooting the entire device.
After the intro, it still falls to 3-5 FPS on youtube.com/my_speed on 720p.
just uninstall the hacked version then install market version and the ability to play 720p at 30 fps seems to persist.

To be honest, it really makes little sense why it works. The old version works and the new version works when updated via the market (though it shouldn't because it overwrites everything) so honestly, I can't really troubleshoot to any degree.
My advice would be to just nuke anything in the /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer location, then install my linked version. Install that, update via the market (You might have to reboot or use Titanium Backup to get it to attach to the market) and see if it works. There is no good reason why it didn't work in the first place, and there is even less why it works now. It's like a ghost in the machine.

It's not a limitation of the Tegra as much as it is a limitation of the screen size. With a larger screen you have more pixels to push and that strains the hardware when it's not designed for it. Unfortunately, the Tegra GPU wasn't ever really designed for tablet resolutions - but it works and they use it - it's just not going to match the only 480x800 display (in the SGS2) in terms of fluidness.

I have a similar issue. I uninstalled via settings/applications and then used terminal to verify that /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer did not exist.
I get about 6 fps. I even tethered to my phone to get a faster download because my DSL speed was too slow to keep up.
I have stock 3.1 rooted.
Yeah, it's becoming clear to me that this is not an exact science. There isn't actually any reason why it shouldn't hardware accelerate on the market version when it does on the hacked (or just plain old) version.
Note that the youtube.com/my_speed video does report two frame rates, one titled "stage fps" and one "video fps" - it's that second one that is reporting the true decode speed. Also, if you're seeing spinning dots in the middle, that's your internet too slow to keep up, not your device.
If you're having no luck with the official .22 point release I linked, try using the hacked version linked in the second post and see if that changes anything.

okay installed this flash (hulu verison) and now opera 11 shows that flash is not install...anyone else having this issue?
I tried the linked version as well- not sure what is different but it does have a different checksum.
Perhaps I have to actually watch a hulu video first?
--- I poked around at some of the methods and the ones that flash via clockwork mod also install some libs- perhaps that this the other piece of the puzzle? It's bedtime here, so 30 fps will have to wait until later...
After uninstalling the newest version and installing the .22 modified one I am getting 30fps and little dropped frames in the speed test on the stock browser. Unfortunately Opera is still showing around 10fps.

I've explained this in detail in the OP but basically the .apk just installs the libraries to it's personal /data/data/ directory and the browser is able to dynamically load them from there. There is no need to install additional libraries because all four of the shared libraries flash requires are installed by installing the .apk.

Yes, unfortunately, Opera loads the libstagefright_froyo.so instead of the libstagefright_honeycomb.so which is the required library for hardware accelerated playback. I'll mention this in the OP.

Hey,
I didnt know where i should Post my Bug Report so if its the wrong section dont hold back to tell me.
I'm currently using my Galaxy S2 for daily use and after flashing some Kitkat Roms Omni is in my opinion the most stable rom and with Nova + ART a damn fast Rom, so thank you very much for supporting my Device.
I dont know whats happening the last weeks but it all began with an Opendelta Issue, i wiped all Data / Factory Reset via TWRP and flashed the Rom completely new and OpenDelta still didnt work, it just said every day its all up2date. Now after a couple of days it is working again, dont know if it was a Server Issue or something else - at the official Omni Page no one post News so i have always to guess whats happening
Currently i found 2 Bugs, if you want to call someone you open up the Dialer and then the Button for the Numbers but after clicking it, theres nothing(Screenshot is attached). You have to go back and try it again then the Numbers are there. The second Problem is that there is no Zoom in the AOSP Camera App if you record a Video. My currently workaround is the Google Camera App, there all is working fine. Also there are some Issues with Apollo , freezing , doesnt update the Song DB etc. , dont know why its so popular - its horrible. Replaced it also with a 3rd party App - Omich/Rocket Player.
The last Problem is that not everywhere in the Settings the correct language is used, if you need some translation help im sure many users would like to help(including me) but that is in my opinion nothing critical .
...and sorry if my Text was hard to read, its not my native language but im working on it :silly:
Regards
Per the FAQ, this is not the place to put bug reports.
However, I9100 hasn't been maintained in a long time, so filing a bug report will be a waste of time. Support for this device is currently going to be dropped with Android 5.0, and if it receives 4.4 bugfixes, that'll have to come from a new maintainer as none of the former maintainers have time/motivation for the Exynos 4210 devices these days.
Some of the issues you describe with Apollo aren't Apollo issues, but the result of a very deep-down core bug that has a side effect of screwing up storage access. This bug has been known for nearly a year (there's a big thread disucssing it somewhere around here...) and still no one has found a fix for the root cause. In fact, it's one of the #1 reasons the device is getting dropped for L. (It will absolutely not receive nightlies unless someone finds and corrects the root cause.)
Hey,
Thank you for your response. :good:
I reported the Bug on jira and there is a workaround for the Dialer Bug: Setting The Animator Scale higher than 0.
The Drivers are the problem right?

Well, there are three things you listed:
1) Dialer stuff - probably some sort of odd HDPI issue and/or graphics subsystem stuff. The Exynos4 graphics subsystem is why many developers don't want to ever touch the platform again.
2) Zoom in video - What resolution was Google Camera? Zoom has NEVER been available for 1080p resolutions on the Exynos 4210 family, not even stock firmware will zoom in 1080p
3) The storage issues are a symptom of a deep-down kernel bug that no one has found the root cause of. This is the #1 reason the device is getting dropped for 5.0 - there is no chance even if a new maintainer steps up that nightlies will resume until someone tracks down the root cause of this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612329 has more discussion (warning: It's long...)
