Just got the Tab 4 and I have a Brother WiFi printer. The Tab 4 refuses to find this printer on the network (yes, they are both on the same network). Every time I try to print something it asks for a "service", so it sends me to Google Play to find a service. I already have the Brother app installed but this is the most idiotic thing ever because when the Brother app is installed I need to either select a file, photo or browser for example. So I wanted to print a web page that I visited earlier in Chrome for example I now need to get to the same page in the Browser option of the Brother App and then print it.
There has got to be a better way to do it and I can't understand what am I missing and why it cannot find the printer on the network.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you/
Is this a WiFi printer? I don't think it is supposed to be connected to the same network the printer needs to enable its WiFi and you will find it in the wifi scan with the tab.

I have a wifi Brother printer as well. I'm pretty sure you can use share in the chrome menu to send the webpage to the brother app. I havent actually tried the brother app. Ive used Print Hammermill from the play store this way though and it works fine with my printer. Hope this helps.
OP is over a month old without a solution posted. Have you had any luck setting this up? If not, have you considered Google Cloud Print? I use my parents' printer when I need, and they are about a 20 minute drive from me... So far no issues other than having to clear the cache from time to time.

At school, and home, I have printers setup through my network, but with the iconia I am unable to do that. Is there an app,or program that can be installed so that we are able to wirelessly print. I have been able to use one really cheap printer plugged directly in and print,,but that's no help when I'm at school.
I use my tablet for school work. I use documents to go pro, an awesome app...
Any help would be appreciated

Google cloud print works, sort of - but the printer needs to be plugged into a pc running some s/w. HP eprint printers work with cloudprint without a pc....but then you could just email to the eprint address with the HP's.
Printing support in HC is lacking.
I have a program called printershare that works good. Search on the market or appbrain.com
webprintout works
try webprintout at jsoftunlimited com. you can even upload a file and print from that or email the file to print. though only drawback that it requires you run on a pc attached to the printer. have fun!
Try HP iprint or eprint free, worked for me

how to use webprintout to print your photos/pdf/docs from iphone or android
in android, in file manager/explorer or photo gallery, select file or file(s), choose Share, select email, forward it to jsoftunlimited at gmail . com with your print id in the subject line and each of your photo/pdf/doc will print individually.
samething for iphone, in photo gallery you can choose email photos and email it to jsoftunlimited at gmail . com with your printid and it works the same.

This is what I use as well. Great program and have not had one issue yet with it.
There are two ways to do it without root. Both of them require US (or other paid-app-available area) VPN.
Solution 1:
1) Remove your Google account from your tab.
2) Connect to VPN on your tab.
3) Re-add the Google Account under VPN connecting.
4) Open the Market (if it's running, stop it first) and you'll be able to purchase paid app.
Solution 2:
This solution requires one wired and one wireless network adapter on you computer.
1) Set a hosted wireless network on your computer. This makes your computer as a WiFi hotspot. It's easy to do this on Windows 7, you will find tutorial on Google. Your will see a virtual WiFi adapter after setup done.
2) Setup VPN connection on your computer. Share it with the virtual WiFi adapter.
3) Connect to VPN on your computer.
4) Connect your tab to the wireless network hosted by your computer.
5) Open the Market (if it's running, stop it first) and you'll be able to purchase paid app.
The main idea is to make sure your tab sends out the very first byte of your Google account information with a US IP. That's how Google identify your location. Your won't do that if just simply connect yo VPN on your tab because a US IP always comes after your tab communicate with Google server.
Hi karlarso,
Forgive the newbie question - but is there an issue with Samsung Tab's installing purchased apps via android app store? I haven't come across this. I know Samsung has their own (lame) app store...is Samsung forcing people to use the Samsung App Store instead? Can you use Android app store or Amazon android app store if you wanted, without having to root?

No, the Android market is completely open and available to Tab users, rooted or unrooted. Samsung does not force anything.
I have absolutely no idea what the OP is about or why anyone would ever need to use that procedure. Maybe it's something to do with non-US devices; its impossible to tell from the post.

Yes, it would have been nice if the OP elaborated on what it was for... I believe it's for those who imported the Tab and live in a country where access to paid apps is not available from the Market.

For example, China.
Great hint
Thank you so much, this worked perfectly!
I am an American living in China and I have not been able to get to many apps that were blocked and have not been able to pay for any app even if it did happen to show up in the Market. I had researched and tried many different things. For others that may be following in my footsteps, it seemed that an app called Market Enabler was specifically designed for this but it does not work on wifi only devices.
I tried what the original poster suggested (Option 1) and have now been able to see some apps that I could not before and have already purchased some that I could not.
Thank you very much.
Another work around
You can view paid apps in the market once you add a credit card to your Google checkout account. (the same Google account you are using on your phone).
I happened to make a payment through Google checkout and the next time I went to the android market on my phone it was showing me paid apps.
Hope this helps!
There are two other (similar) scenarios where you need this:
1) You want to buy a movie/book from google (service is only enabled for US)
2) You want to watch movies on Hulu/netflix
Further more for option two, I do think that an US socks proxy would do (or a spam sling - proxy with all ports open).
I don't think that it's transparent for the Xoom on the PC AP in which way the PC makes the connection to US.
Looking for a good free print app that works I tried e print and print not but have to pay..just need to know before I have to buy one
I use cloudprint.... free, easy to use, always available
Cloud print works.
To use cloud print you have to have a net Active printer or a Google Chrome browser on a pc. THE PC must be on to print and there is some delay. Depending on your printer brand there are some print apps from say HP BROTHER KODAK. and so on..
I have a new Brother printer that has wired or wireless and bluetooth netWORK it will print direct to the printer.. from over the internet or from anywhere in my home. Awesome.THE App is on the market . Find the one suited for your printer or install chrome browser on your desktop.. install the cloud print plugin to it set your printer model in the application inbeded in chrome browser.. then install the app and on your tabler and assign it your google account setup on google chrome on your desktop.. ..
IT WORKS WILL WITH SOME LAG
and some documents dont print properly. This could be because my printer was OLD MODEL.. bought new one a week or so ago...
I use PrintBot. There are free and pro versions of it. My HP deskjet 5150 printer is fed by a D-Link wireless print server, so it has its own IP address, using the LPR method. As such, I can print by wifi directly to the printer, even if no PC in the house is running.
This model of HP is not listed in the PrintBot settings, so I use the HP deskjet 5400 series, and it works fine. Note that this older printer does not have wifi built in. This method will work with pretty much any printer connected by USB to the wireless print server, which is hard wired to our LAN.
The best way to print from your tablet is to have a network printer hooked up. This can either be via WIFI or wired ethernet. Most printer companies have their own apps for printing while connected to the same network as the printer. For example I have an app called "Samsung Mobile Print", and "Lexmark print". Both were free and both tell you what printers are compatible with this app.
I have a Wifi enabled Canon printer
Does anyone know if the Wif Drivers for this will work on an N7 to work wirelessly??

Thanks for the tip about Cloud Print. I hadn't been able to print from my ZTE Warp phone (Nexus 7 is on the way) and now I can. Much appreciated.
I use PrinterShare which works great with Google Cloud printers, WiFi printers, etc. Have never had an issue with it.

This is what happens while I am not on my wifi.
I click Print on my Note 4 and when the printer menu pops up, it asks how I want to connect. Obviously, I do not want to use WiFi. I have tried to disable all other printer services and leave only Google Cloud Print, but I cannot select the printer.
Here are the 2 screenshots.

Any ideas why is this happening?
Did you setup cloud print support for your printer via desktop www.google.com/cloudprint

Just had this issue with my Note 4 as well. Need to print once to the printer over wifi. Then you WiFi be able to select the printer from the recently used list over your data connection. Seems like a bug were you can not select any printers from the Google cloud print plugin.
