The Note Edge is Not Worth it - Note Edge General

After a little over 24 hours with the Edge the honeymoon phase is already over, I can honestly say its not worth the extra $200. 24hrs may not seem like a lot of time but I've spent nearly 20 of those hours playing with my phone (you know how it is when you get a new Android.)
After playing with the Edge all day today I really dont think its worth the extra money. Theirs just not enough content for the edge part yet. Some of the panels like the CNN News one don't even work half the time ( its been stuck on loading all day today), my weather in the edge hasn't updated since I got the phone, I dont like the Yahoo Sports panel because you have to choose a team or teams which makes it useless during your sport's off-season, I just want general sports news (a ESPN sports ticker panel would be awesome), no custom icons, and lastly you cant even choose your favorite apps in all the panels. My goal was to put all my apps on the edge and leave my screens iconless but I am unable to do that because I can only choose my favorites in one panel.
Bottom line the Edge is not worth $200 additional dollars to me plus the uncomfortable feel in the hand, it has lots of potential if it gets more support though. I will be returning mine on Monday for a regular Note 4 or Nexus 6, I am going to give it a year or so to see if the edge grows and gets more app support if so I can see myself with a Edge 2.

Well... 24 hours is a long time to spend with a phone. I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Cool story bro. I wanna follow you on Twitter so hard!

welcome to xda, where we solve problems, not cry about them.
i'm not sure how you spent 200 extra dollars but, that sucks. sorry to hear that. take it back and get a note or a nexus
it seems like you are more concerned with $ than the phone. if you are tight on $ the edge was not for you anyway.
i am using my edge in the way you intended. try creating FOLDERS in the fav apps panel. i have apps in folders in the panel.
Samsung released the SDK to allow you to do whatever you want. even duplicate the fav apps panel.
i'm not sure what you were expecting from the edge. but you probably should have done some research before buying it or at least spent time with it in the store.
It was totally worth it for me. i love my edge.
...seriously, how did you spend 200 extra?
"note 4:
$720.00 spr
$825.99 att
$699.99 ver
$749.76 tmo
note edge:
$840.00 spr
$945.99 att
$nah.yo ver
$870.00 tmo"
i'm confused? how?

So basically , to sum it all up , you just don't like the edge panel. The edge panel is not the overall experience of this phone. The edge panel works coincide with the main screen. You must not play a lot with your phone in that 24 hours.

I paid $945 at ATT on the Next plan, over $1000 with tax.
Is their a way to get custom icons in the panel?
Why is my cnn and weather panel not working?
How do I get more than one panel where I can add my favorites?

Didnt realize the regular Note 4 was $825 on ATT, thought it was $700-$750, but still over $200 more than the cheapest one.

your beef is silly.
you are mad because it doesn't do something that nobody ever said it would (custom icons and multiple fav panels). all my panels work. the cnn panel is trash. more fav panels- you don't get more yet.. add folders to the panels (second time being said) or build it with the sdk.
take the phone back and be done with it. if this is your attitude, you are't going to be contributing to development, and if you are on att, you can't root (yet).
go get the Nexus. don't even bother with the note. you'll probably have some unrealistic expectations there too.

Maybe you don't need to be rooted or use this app but I used unicon on rooted device to have custom icons (velur icon pack) in panel.

Att has locked up the edge and the note. Root hasnt happened for them yet.

I love my Edge and so much so I returned my att model and bought the T-Mobile version and rooted it. Now its even better. I had the Note 4, sold it. I have the Nexus 6 and it's collecting dust.
You need to get into the settings to have the weather update hourly. The CNN panel works for me.
I have the favs panel full. You can add a ton of apps and folders. I have 15 apps/folders in one edge panel.

Yup. If it don't root, give it the boot!

I have the sprint note edge, didnt pay over 850. And its the bees knees. I can root and play with it or odin back to stock like i have done waiting for 5.0.1
I love this phone. Favorite phone EVER

This screen with the edge bar is so convenient

I personally love the edge. Less clutter on the screen. And you can add as many favorite apps as your hearts desire. Or make folders. And my weather stays updated, i have it set once a hour to update, unless i manually do it.

Get a nexus 6! I just stopped by this forum after frequenting it daily when i had my edge to see where dev. Is on the sprint side... Im glad i jumped ship still nothing for sprint... Its been bout 3 weeks and couldnt have been hapier...Roms galore....!! And nexus is so much faster..no touchwiz to slow it down.

I like to have a very minimalist home screen and the edge panel is great for that and adds functionality and accessibility

Yay. You upgraded and got:
No expandable storage
No removable battery
Lower mp cams front and back
Earley access to lollipop, which being released for all phones.
Less physical customization options
Less options for organization (stock)
Lower pixel density
.193 inches more screen
No s-pen
Lower build quality
You certainly hit that one out of the park. You just have a big android phone not a true phab. Only clear advantage is wireless charging right out of the box.
Enable tablet ui and enjoy though. Its a great phone if you just want a big phone with android.
Top marks and thanks for visiting.

Note Edge vs. Note 4, in retrospect

I got the Note 4 from two carriers when it released, knowing that I will want the Edge as my daily driver. The design is just too cool. Now that I have used several Note 4s and Note Edges for some time, I'm not so sure anymore.
Yes, the Edge design is interesting, it's a conversation piece. It gives the phone [yet] another leg up on those iOS fanboys. It does add the utility of shortcuts and information tickers. At the same time, I'm giving up on screen size and the use of any "edge action" (apps that can be triggered by touching the edge, not to be confused by the Note Edge). Apps such as PIE Control, APPSI, Smart Task Launcher, and Dock4Droid are all very useful for various purposes.
The Note Edge's screen is about 3/16" shorter than the Note 4 (and Note 3), and because of the Edge bar, its total useful screen width is also reduced. Especially when considering the native screen resolution, the seemingly small screen size differential makes a big difference, and again, when you consider the lost of "full right edge" use on the Note Edge.
I know that at the end of the day, it's what I want, how I use the device, how I customize, and what pleases me. I am simply sharing my thoughts.
At this point, I am on the fence whether I want to use the Note Edge or Note 4 as a daily driver....
Yes, you are 100% correct.... The edge screen is nothing more than a glorified side launcher, like PIE controls or even Toolbox on the S5. That being said, it does ADD functions that can not be had with any side launcher. Tickers, notifications, multiple layers of sort cuts such as touch to call contacts etc. As it has been said many times, this is a brand new concept and a niche device, development with be slower than for the Note and S series. Yes, the Edge is a side launcher, a freakin bad ass side launcher. Just wait a minute and you'll see things pick up.
I have another perspective to consider...
My Note 4 is white and my Note Edge is black... (Since T-Mobile/Samsung decided not to sell the white version)
I always buy white Note's... at some point I got a Black Note 3 but I quickly replaced the back door from black to white. The Black Note 3 with a white back door looked awesome. But in this case, with the Edge, I cannot even replace the back door to white because there is non on Ebay.... None on Amazon, and none anywhere... I also ALWAYS buy a Qi wireless receiver from Ebay.... this time... NO Qi wireless receiver for the Note Edge anywhere...
I ended up ordering a White Original Qi Wireless Back Door... At least I will have the white back door plus the Qi... but... IT WILL BE A FAT NOTE EDGE... lol and NO case will fit afterwards...
That's my dilemma...
Having just updated my Exynos Edge I prefer it to my Snapdragon Note 4. To be fair my Note 4 uses Knox so perhaps that has an effect on its speed. The Edge of the Note Edge adds to the business productivity features and therefore it is my preferred device
Hey there guys, I recognize a few names here primarily from the T-mobile Note 3 forums, where I'm still spending most of my xda time. I can't say that I'm particularly surprised to find posts such as this one here. I've described the Edge as a "device that I wanted to want", seeing a TON of potential, particularly with regard to productivity/mutli-tasking, in a new, cool-looking form factor. However, (shockingly) Samsung's implementation of the Edge bar made it kind of strange and gimmicky, so it was crossed off my wish-list.
Well, I'm paying you all a visit to bring over some excellent news which is currently rocking a couple of threads in the T-mobile Note 3 forums: @dwitherell, the creator of Tweaked ROM, officially stated that he has chosen the Note Edge as his next phone (i.e. to become home of Tweaked), and has already ordered one For those unfamiliar with it, Tweaked is an excellent TW based ROM with many very strong supporters. Many self-professed "flashaholics" put down the... flashahol upon discovering Tweaked and now strictly update. Additionally, Dwitherell is an extremely talented developer whose creations are always a pleasure to use and packed with very useful and creative features. He's also a really great, friendly, helpful guy! The need for xposed modules is far reduced when running Tweaked, because so many mods that can usually be accomplished by use of a module are baked right into the ROM. Last, as a side benefit, the Tweaked threads always have a very strong "community vibe" going on. It's always nice when your device has a nice active forum, with many friendly, helpful folks.... Expect to see many fitting that description migrating over to this forum in the near future
I actually received an extremely impressive list of devs who have also decided to continue their work on the Note Edge from a reliable source. I'm not exactly sure who has personally "revealed" that they've chosen the Edge as their next device and either already bought, or are definitely buying one, so I don't really want to mention anyone else, but there were 5 or 6 very talented people, and the person who sent me the list described it as "confirmed".
Anyway, my previous perception was that the Note Edge would be a great device if only it would be "fixed". It hit me as a "pleasant surprise" that that pretty much seems to be the plan! I personally was thinking that I'd pick up a Note 4, pretty much because, "Meh, there'll be nothing better until I can upgrade again." (Old version of the T-Mobile JUMP program). However, the Edge is now looking MUCH more appealing, Actually I feel like the prospect of "Tweaked Edge" is quite a bit more exciting than "Tweaked Note 4".
So hopefully that gives disappointed Edge owners something to look forward to. The Note Edge is about to blow up in popularity/desirability (at least among xda members). I definitely plan to get one myself in the near future. Any Tweaked fans should definitely check out the main Tweaked thread as well as the one in General, for a bit of entertainment if nothing else. Guess I'll catch you all again soon :good:

S6 won't have the S-Pen. For those who find the pen and larger display useful, the Note is the way to go. I have been riding on the Note cycle rather than the S cycle. The next S would come, then the next Note would follow with everything the S has + the pen and larger screen....
I know but i really did like the size of my S5. I had the Note 2, then the S5... The smaller screen was almost perfect for personally but i did miss the pen

Technology wise the Note is Samsung's high end device so the S6 may have different cosmetics but i expect it won't be a step forward on specs.

Hey, there's one of those familiar names, good to see ya over here buddy! Pretty surprising/intriguing decision made by D (et al.) to upgrade to the Edge, eh?
I'm thinking that Tweaked probably won't be the first solid ROM available, as D tends to take a bit longer perfecting his releases. I can't wait to see what he comes up with though!
Man, I was "for sure" going to get a Note 4 actually the same day that I learned about all the devs who had decided continue their work on the Edge. I had a solid plan to go over to the store right when a shipment came in so that I could compare a few devices to be sure that I walked out with one lacking any unacceptable screen flaws, but then I bailed at the last second... can't tell you how glad I was to have not traded in my N3 running Tweaked 3.95 yet!
Anyway, great to see ya! Hope you enjoy the Edge as is until its full potential is unlocked :good:

What it's come down to...

So after owning the AT&T Note Edge since launch, I've decided to switch to a OnePlus One.
I've been an avid Samsung user since the Captivate, but the fact that AT&T has gone to lengths to keep users from rooting their phones, I've decided it's no longer worth it to continue to use the Edge while we wait for root
My breaking point was my Edge locking up over night and shutting off, making me miss my wake up alarm and requiring me to pull the battery in order to get things going again.
The lack of Edge support has also been a huge factor in my decision. Ok, so a few apps have stepped up and welcomed edge users, but simple functionality that should have been available from launch still isn't here. Case in point: activating the Edge screen when the the phone is in lockscreen should be seamless; it's far from that. Customization is very conservative compared to what one would thing the Edge should do right out of the box.
Maybe I should have gone with a T-Mobile version, but it's too late for that. So for the time being, my Edge is going on a shelf. Here's to strides hopefully being made for those of us stuck with AT&T's bull****.
Sorry you have a problem with AT&T. My sprint note edge is very responsive, haven't had 1 major issue with it. Your case in point, I just don't see. I can activate and use my edge screen easily with one hand from the lock screen and while the screen is turned off.
Customization all depends on what you want to customize. Anything is possible if you take the time to learn what you want to do.
And I'm not rooted.

As far as the stock rom, it just doesn't run as cleanly as it should, even with At&t bloat disabled. My note 2 seemed to perform smoother in most instances. Unfortunately that's something that can't be changed until root is achieved.
The edge screen when you swipe up and down doesn't instantly activate. There's a lag. The app edge screens, only one is customizable. The other is carrier locked with their crap. And you cannot change the icons of the apps on these screens to match launcher icons.
Very basic functionality that cannot be changed without root...no matter how much you learn bud.
I'm just sayin, for how much I paid for this thing, ANYTHING should possible. But it's not. Where is the scrolling twitter, Facebook feed. why isn't the night clock seamless with the edge screen?
I understand you don't share my point of view, but after months of trying to love the phone for the functionality it shipped with, I know damn well now that I'm compromising only because of what I spent on the damn thing. Without root, it's far from extraordinary.

Edge screen experience ......

share your edge screen experience and apps you used to make edge screen more productive .
I am using it mainly for quick launch and it is big time saver.
It's not as useful as it was made out to be. Not only that there is almost no development for the Edge screen. I don't think they've added anything in a few months... Sucks ass man,

Long list. Helped hugely by the Edge panels on play store.
1. Switching of course
2. Popup windows when I want to refer to another app. Faster than traditional multiwindow
3. Shortcuts to tasks and widgets (Shortcuts for note edge plus Popup widget)
4. Quick contacts, with option of vibe, sms, WhatsApp etc
5. Quick phone all and messaging
6. Pedometer
7. Switch between open tasks , preview also

Popup windows and shortcuts are through additional paid panels by EHZ Studios. Called Multiwindow for Note Edge and Shortcuts for Note Edge respectively.
Multiwindow gives the option of quick multiwindow or popup windows.
Shortcuts can be to an app's predefined shortcut, tasker task, or Popup Widget. Very flexible.
Switching is with the standard task manager panel that comes pre installed, or can be downloaded from Galaxy Apps. If you hold the Spen over the app icon on the Edge you see a preview of the current screen for that app.

Have mentioned 7 earlier. Standard task manager panel which shows open apps and preview of current screen if you hold spen there.
Yes, swipe pad is good. Personal preference basically.
Couldn't agree more on the replacement phone. The mainstream edge models are nowhere near this.
Most reviews classified the edge as pretty but useless. Which makes me wonder about the capability of the reviewer and how much they really understand technology ☺
Samsung on its part has not done a good job selling this. They don't even have all the edge panels on their app store. Now it's a vicious cycle where they will think the sales don't justify a followup.

Samsung on its part has not done a good job selling this. They don't even have all the edge panels on their app store. Now it's a vicious cycle where they will think the sales don't justify a followup.

Sure.
For some reason I don't think I have the standard task manager panel. ..... I am using switchr at the mo. Infuriatingly I can't compare. [emoji20]
Is there anything we can do to convince Samsung they have an absolute gold mine if they just got their act together?
I think all they would need to do is use the concept of an edge on both sides. (From an aesthetics perspective 2 edges work and I can't see them going back from this) ... but make one side a "real edge" and leave the other as a "fake edge"

I agree.I keep thinking about upgrading, but the useless versions of edge screens that are on their new phones would just piss me off.

I think the main problem goes back to their staggered launch. This device came out over a month (or longer in some markets) after the Note 4 and most of the people who would have considered buying this had just bought that... at least that what a few developers I asked told me why they didn't get the edge.
I hope the s7 plus or note 6 has a true edge so I can upgrade...lack of development is killing me

I wonder if there is any way to force the issue with samsung?
Samsung need to hire ehz studios
I can't emphasise how useful the edge is.
The shortcuts edge with pop up widget (as learnt from this thread) has now taken things to new levels. ..
I can now seamlessly switch from watching a movie on the tube on the way to work.... to my currently running amazon music playlist from the pop out widget on shortcuts panel when I leave the station to walk the rest of the way to the office. .....
I have a big problem. ...
The pop up widgets that I'm using on shortcuts panel work when the screen is LOCKED!!!!!
I am shocked! !
Does anyone know how to fix this! !!!!
Is ehzstudios around? It would be good to talk to correspond with him on this as well! !
I've been looking into methods to automatically trigger the edge screen. I find it a glaring oversight that you have to rub it to initiate the ticker. It takes less time to just unlock the phone and pull down the shade.
If I could get Tasker to simulate an edge swipe every X minutes when the screen is off, I'd be happy.
So far, haven't figured anything out, Tasker seems to refuse to trigger anything with the screen off. I don't want to use Augmented Smartwatch Pro, I find it clunky.

Ya, I beg to differ. With RuggedHunter's app, the ticker is great. My phone sits on a desk or table many times throughout the day, with the edge facing me.
Now, I get a notification and the edge panel scrolls. I can see who's emailing or texting and if it's important, I'll pick up my phone and check it. If not, I can just leave my device there and keep doing what I'm doing.
Pointless for you, maybe. Samsung just dropped the ball with adding features to this edge panel, but a talented dev now filled in the missing pieces.

Concerns? Dislikes? Buyer's Remorse?

Anyone disappointed in a few things like I am?
1. Regardless of how you feel, Verizon removing things and adding even more bloatware is beyond nasty. It's low.
2. The battery life is average at best.
3. There is lags. It's there. Apps open slow, typical Samsung UI stuff. It'll never change.
4. I just don't like the edge. It offers nothing and makes hitting a button close to it awkward. Not to mention cases are just bleh due to trying to fit around it.
5. The S-pen has a smaller tip, but I find it less responsive than it used to be.
6. New theme store is meh. Themes I purchased on my s6 aren't there. I think this feature will improve though.
I like the phone, but it definitely doesn't wow me like the Note 3 and Note 4.

I am having way better battery life on the Note 7 than my Galaxy 7. I haven't noticed any lag. I agree, the "edge" is a gimmick.

You should use Samsung's browser and use the adblock extension. It is amazing.

I use Adguard on occasion as it sometimes bogs down the phone. Love/hate relationship with it.
Well, I get way better battery life than any phone I've ever owned. I end almost every day at 50% and I used to charge by 6pm. Apps open faster than any phone I've ever had and have no lag so far. I love the edge for quick weather and sports scores. I don't love finding a screen protector and case that play nice together. The s-pen seems WAY better to me. I don't use the theme store so I can't comment there. So far, I adore this phone.

Apparently you guys have never had a Nexus. This phone is good, but it does have lag issues that it just shouldn't have in 2016.
And when I say edge, I dont mean edges apps. You don't need to have an edge screen to use the apps you mentioned. They would work just fine if not better on a flat screen like the quick tools Samsung used to use
Not being a jerk, but every phone that gets released, people make wild claims like " 8 day battery life, fastest phone in the world" blah blah. To be fair, there is always someone who makes a thread like this as well. I'm that someone this time.
I like the phone, but it really isn't the holy grail it was made out to be... I feel like it needs an update to clean some stuff up

I like the phone but I don't think it's a huge upgrade over my s7e. I think I'm going to return it and just keep my s7e. Kind of sick of Verizon for removing helpful features from this phone that were meant to be there.

Had a Nexus 6. This blows the doors off of it speed wise. I can actually open the camera and take a picture, answer a phone call, and not have the unlock screen take about 15 seconds to actually unlock.
Makes me wonder if I had a bad device all along. It wasn't like that at first though. Somewhere after 6.0 it slowed down and never recovered regardless of factory resetting.

Concerns:
Future updates, but I knew what I was getting into.
The durability of GG5, but the whole issue may be overblown...time will tell.
Dislikes:
The screen protector I bought. There is already dust under it. Not to mention it must have lifted off the center, as I miss keys all the time. I will sit tight for a while on it and see what else comes out over the next month or so.
Samsung Keyboard - I like Google Keyboard for typing, Samsung S-Pen input for writing, and Google Voice Keyboard. No way to get this combo easily.
Price was steep for this phone, but you get what you pay for. I wanted premium, and got premium.
Buyer's Remorse
Nope. None.
I miss the Ascending Ringtone Volume setting. I can't find it in VZN Note 7. All the good basic ring tones are gone, too.
Someone PLEASE unlock the boot loader on this phone.
Really wasn't expecting to see the different ui was actually looking forward to the new one as this phone was supposed to have the grace ui , so very disappointed in that as it was a feature that was a factor in my buying it its more or less the s7 rebuilt as a note with edge panels, so Im annoyed there. I also don't like the fact that I had to make a custom shortcut for the Samsung cloud service when that was also a feature which was a deciding factor for getting this phone , all in all don't get me wrong the phone is beautiful it runs like a dream its screen is fantastic etc. but I really disagree with the feature removal , the device maintenance app , and the difference in ui these are things that were supposed to make this phone unique and there not there , I mean I really like it but im annoyed at the same time if that makes sense lol. What really sucks is I gave my s7 to my wife and shes ecstatic about it so I cant really return it now cause shes now one with the s7. That and i traded in her old phone.
I agree DBCAB. I don't know what is different in the UI aside from a slightly different settings menu. Is there more?
I am also sick of Verizon. There is just no other carrier with a signal here. They're the reason I went Nexus and tried an iPhone. You never know what features they're going to remove or bloat they're going to force when it comes the all other Android phones.

I'm not thrilled about Verizon, the way they tamper with what is already a somewhat compromised ROM is vile. Their latest security update had crapware in it. What more can you say?
The phone is amazing, imo. It absolutely kills the Note 4 which I had, it's not even comparable. I'm using a Nexus 6P, I swore on all that is holy I would never use a locked up Samsung phone again and I can barely put this down. It looks better than any phone I've ever seen, the software is actually...dare I say it, useful? Even the damn iris scanner works well. It's not laggy (yet), and I'm getting better battery than my Nexus. I missed the stylus. I don't know if I can bear a locked down phone, but this is the only one I've tried that makes me think about it A LOT.
My only dislike is how gdamn hard I have to work against Verizon and Samsung to get the most out of it. Sneaking to get Samsung Cloud, downloading an older, superior version of SNote with full capability (wtf is that about?!). Otherwise, wow, quite a phone and I was prepared to hate it loudly.

Just the standard yahoo sports one. When you click on the little gear symbol to customize the edge screens you want, Yahoo is literally the first one I can select. It's pretty basic but I like it for my baseball scores at a glance.

The $900 price tag got to me along with the edge screen so I returned mine for a Galaxy J3 lol. Seriously the Note 7 is nice but between what Verizon dose and the limited choice of screen protectors that stick and cases that do not peal them off made me return the device. I'm looking to ditch Verizon all together so I opted for the cheapest smartphone they had in stock to fulfill my device payment agreement. Surprisingly the J3 isn't all that bad for what I do on the phone.

I wouldn't expect early cases and screen protectors to be perfect til people got a chance to beat on them. I still ordered them though and just got them in today, at least get some protection.

It's going to be the same as the S7 Edge I just traded in. Not too many choices.

S8 in late 2018?

Looking to buy my wife a new phone cause her iPhone 6S battery is dieing out. I plan to get her the S8 exynos and flash a pixel room. Thought about getting her an S9 buy the exynos version has problems with poor battery. Plus the S8 is on sale for $375.
Her use is mainly messaging, social media apps and youtube. How's the speed/fluidity of the phone?
I ask cause I have a pixel 2xl and it's working flawlessly. Smoother than the OnePlus 6 I had before it. The SD835 isn't far behind the SD845 like one would think. I also heard good things about the exynos 8895.
I really don't want to get her a phone with issues cause I'll end up having to buy her another one. Would appreciate detailed opinions/reviews. Thanks.

I got the phone about a month ago and here are my thoughts:
-Not as fast as a Pixel 2 or a Oneplus 6 but still good enough. You wouldn't call this a slow phone. Apps won't launch as quickly as a phone with stock android, but it's not a big deal imo. Reduce the animation time from developer settings and you'll be good to go.
-Camera is fantastic. Sometimes even better than the S9.
-Battery life is good after some tweaking. I get about 6 hours of SOT and a full day of mixed use.
-Samsung Experience UI is so much better than the old TouchWiz. I'd suggest that you try it before switching to a custom rom. Features like Good Lock can help you customize your phone like never before. It's not the gimmicky bloat of the past.
-The curved screen is a bloody pain for phone cases and tempered glasses. But I still like it. Makes the grip of the phone much better for me. I'd suggest getting a full screen glue tempered glass from AliExpress or a Whitestone Dome from Amazon (this may sound like a trivial point but trust me, it's very important).
I think the S8 is a great value buy over the S9. I got it for about $380 myself and I have no regrets. Fantastic features, keeps the headphone jack.
6 hours sot? do you mind sharing your tricks, master?
i usually have 3 and end the day on 30-40% left at 8 pm
anaway, i can fully recommend this phone, still looks and feels like it came out two weeks ago

I've followed most of these settings.
Make sure you add most of your apps to the "Always Sleeping Apps" list in the battery settings.
Turn off background data for apps you don't need.
Use the "Moderate" setting of battery saving and customize it to your preference.
SOT varies from person to person. On a very heavy day with a full day of 4g use I can get about 4.5-5 hours SOT.
On a light day, I get about 6-6.5 hours
Today was quite a light day. Maybe about an hour of continuous 4g use. Rest has been WiFi and social media.
I only make 3-4h SOT....
So... NO
After year and couple a months that's my opinion.... Awesome
I have this phone for about 10 months now. I had no troubles with it. I haven't seen an app crash since i updated from a really sh phone, alcatel one youch idol mini 3, so from my experience its effin superb phone. Display is amazing, really, amazing. Full screen videos are outstanding, youtube option to zoom till filled is just wow. 2 apps at the same time is my fav option. YT on top and anything else on the bottom. Two accounts for social media apps. Additional storage.. amazing camera with super slo mo 4k video etc.. all in all my experience for s8+ is 9/10
Keep it stock, for a woman its better.
I just got mine second hand about 3 months ago. That is a good deal.
Coming from iphone 6plus(work phone) I did not think I would like it. My other phone at that time was an essential phone. And all my previous phones were pure android. So I did not think I would like the samsung overlay.
It is great the only thing I have done was turn on developer options to get rid if navigation buttons and notification area.
I use it heavily for work email. My app is not battery optimized. Syncing data for changes documents and some tethering data.
Each day I put on the charger at 5:45am and I take it off the charger about 7am and it last me all day until I go to bed about 11pm. I don't pay attention to the battery percentage since I hide the notification at top.
As for speed I don't have a problem.
I would not worry about rooting the phone unless there is a tweak you really need. I have rooted and ROMed every phone but this one. The samsung extras are really good

Was only thinking to do that to get rid of bloat and make sure it doesn't slow by time as everyone says about Samsung's phones. From the comments I've been getting I see that's not needed anymore. Thanks.

Nah I still got mine other than a couple stock restores due to bricking mine doesn't ever lag. But I am also rooted and tweaked to the max allowable.
I would have to say depending on the price it's still a good option just no root method for US users any more
