Towel root - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does towel root method work on AN12 update. I have read the root methods for under AN12 but since this update has been out for a while now i thought maybe they got towel root to work.
Thank you in advance.

Short answer is yes, however, you will need to ODIN your kernel first then gain root with towel root. Read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784860

Towelroot v3 refuses to install on Galaxy S5 from Verizon.
I'm having problems getting Towelroot v3 installed on my Verizon Wireless, Samsung Galaxy S5 16mb phone.
We were running fine while being rooted under V4.4.4 and Rom *NHA*.
We removed SuperSU, and uninstalled. it.
We installed the update, with no problems.
We rebooted, into Download mode, and flashed Kernel *NCG* .
We copied Towelrootv3 over and attempted to install it... (This is where the problem begins...)
We attempt to install TowelrootV3.apk. We get the popup that gives us the warning, along with the checkbox, we select the checkbox, which allows us to go ahead with the installation... the install begins but then suddenly says, "App not installed". (??????)
I have ensured that we are booted up under the NCG Kernel, and that we have selected:
Settings ->Security->Unknown Sources [ck'd]
Settings->Security->Verify Apps [Ck'd']
Developer Options->USB Debugging [not Ckk'd]
Developer Options->Allow Mock Locations [Chk'd]
No matter how many times that we try to install it, with different settings etc.... it fails with "App not installed!"
What could possibly be the reason that it refuses to install when we are using the *NCG* kernel?
I removed the NCG kernel and put the NK2 Kernel back in, and rebooted for the time being. It's working well, I just cannot get TowelrootV3 installed so that I can install SuperSU.
I've rooted another S5, using the very same procedure, and had absolutely no problems.
What am I doing wrong on this phone? It's driving me crazy, and I don' t have too far to go...:silly:
Thanks in Advance!
Please Help.

Problem fixed... working now, successfully Rooted
Well,
I found that if you do not copy the towelroot.apk to your internal memory, it will not allow you to install towelroot.
Instead of Downloading towelroot.apk from the website from the phone itself, I downloaded it onto my PC. Then connected my phone to my pc, and placed it into "Access Picture" mode so that you can upload and download pictures into the phone's internal memory. I used that mode to copy towelroot from my pc to the phone.
I used Odin3 to load up NGC Kernel.
Then I disconnected from my pc, rebooted the phone, and was able to install towelroot with no further warnings.
Once that was done, I was able to use Odin3 again to load back up the NK2 original Kernel. I then rebooted again,
and then I could "Make it Rain". After a nice summer rainstorm, I was able to install SuperSU from Google Playstore and install it.
I sure hope that when 5.0 comes to our Verizon Android S5 phones, it's equally as easy to get root access as it has been for 4.4.4. I would surely be hindered without it as my phone relies upon a lot of apps that require root access. Unless Verizon changes their ways, this will be the last Samsung Galaxy I will ever purchase, so that I can move over to a Nexus device.
Thanks to everyone who has stepped up and helped us keep our phones productive and rooted.
Cheers,
-Stone

[Q] Cant install su/superser.zip from twrp rcvry

Alright,
I'm running the MF9 stock firmware. this is my second S4 both were L720's. I rooted my first s4 in my sleep with the auto root/stock recovery, with Odin and the .tar file. I kept the files on my computer, since i have vast amounts of space and partially lazy; i didn't delete them. When i got my second s4 the firmware was MF9. So i flashed the tar with Odin, everything seem to work fine. no errors or hangs, when it booted back up to main menu it didn't have super user..
I downloaded the super user app, from the app store, said my binaries are out dated and needed update
okay, go for it.. everything was smooth/green other then the out dated version of superuser. but when it tried to get root access it failed
I used Odin to install openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-jfltespr.tar everything was smooth
used adb to boot to recovery, worked great twrp booted up
i installed the superuser.zip from there
everything was smooth no errors /cleared the cache
rebooted still no super on my desktop/app drawer
I'm trying to avoid flashing stock rom then trying to re-root if any other possible way to root my device
would greatly help.
for all the people that say"google is ur friend" ever link is purple that starts or has the words "root" "superuser" "L720"
it is my friend but people are smarter and more dynamic then Google "my friend"
Thanks,
-L
Solved!! L720 cant install su superuser in recovery twrp/ cant gain root
Ive been working on this for the last two days, seems like all i needed was to post, i work in a support desk. Oddly alot of people have issues when they have been trying to fix, yet when they ask for help, there either figure it out. or it simply fixes its self
Well, i fix this issue my self
i used file manager and went to the /system/apps folder
my plan was to erase all traces of super user and re-install
when i got to super user
it wasn't like the normal icons, this one was different from the ones ive personally installed from the app store
so i installed it
it uninstalled the"app store" super users and installed this one.
(i have uninstalled super user previously before this and tried to flash with no success, hence the deeper clean)
It went about installing, and BAM!! asked me to grant super user control, i agreed to the prompt and opened up busy box
it finally loaded up correctly asked for super user access. I granted it
Issue resolved> idk why this was harder then before, but it works that's what matters, I know no one posted here, but hope this helps at lest one other person then me, Thanks XDA and all the programmers/theme'rs/developers

[Q] Dissable Knox Security help?

Alright, I'll run down my problem and hopefully someone can help. I have looked at all of the threads and none have helped me . I am however, very confident one of you guys!!!
Alright, when I Updated to 4.3, I decided that I wanted to go to Cyanogenmod instead of the touchwiz from samsung. I had previously done it with my s3 and everything went well!! So I decided to give it a go. From the moment I tried to root my phone, a notification would pop up on my phone saying "Security information An application attempted to access system on your device without authorization. This attempt has been blocked."
It doesnt matter what method I use (mottochoper, terminal, mac, pc) I always get the same message and everything stops and whatever program I use tells me it couldn't finish.
I have a macbook, I tried uninstalling kies, rebooting my s4/mac, everything!! Nothing works because of this message.
I also tried to dissable and force stop Knox, but it just keeps happening.
I unchecked the box that allowed know to be activated under security, but it keeps happening!!!
I can't root my phone, and it makes me sad very sad ((( The closest I've come to rooting my phone was with the mac Cyanogenmod installer. It almost worked! But then, the security thing.
I have a Galaxy s4 from at&t, running 4.3, a macbook running 10.9, a bagged lunched I prepared for myself that could be yours, and internet access of course.
Someone help please!! Thank you in advance you beautiful folks you!!!!

What rom are you talking about? You can either delete all know related files in the system/app dir or freeze the files using TB backup.

If you're running the stock 4.3 OTA, then you can't run cyanogenmod or any AOSP ROM first of all. Second, if you do have the 4.3 MK2 system, you need to either use Saferoot or Kingo ROOT. If neither of those work, use the third post in ted77's update.zip thread to flash back to entirely stock without the security updates (it will erase data and internal sd) and then root.

[Q] CM11 unrooted my phone?

I just finished backing up with TWRP and installing the latest nightly build of CM11. I logged into my Google account okay, but for some reason it's not doing the automatic install of all my apps like it usually does when I install a new ROM. Odd. Okay, that's annoying, but whatever. I did a backup with Titanium, too, so I guess I can do a full restore of the apps with that, instead.
However, when I try to use AdAway, it tells me that I don't have root. I install Root Checker, and sure enough, no root! Well, that should be easy enough to fix, I think. I run off to towelroot.com, and then download and install Towelroot. But when I try to root again, it tells me that my phone's not supported! My phone is a SM-G900T, and I had rooted it successfully with Towelroot about a month ago!
Any ideas? How can I re-root my phone with CM11?
Got it. I kept finding articles asking how to unroot after installing CM. It's just a setting in CM, though (under Developer Options). Root is off by default; so, I just had to turn it on.

Sky Go still blocked when rooted?

Hey guys, is sky go still blocked on rooted devices? I have an S5 that i rooted a while ago but returned to stock for the purpose of sky go, Has anyone found a way around it? i know there was rootcloak and a few other apps to try and prevent it but those didnt work back then, Hope for a reply. thanks alot guys.
Wasn't there a sky go xposed module for this? I maybe wrong... I use "hide my root" and a stock kernel when using the "all 4" channel 4 on demand app. Maybe the same will work for you? Root cloak didn't work me, the normal or xposed version both were fails for me. But the app I mentioned did the job.

I felt I had a simile but without effect hoped for , try this
There's finally a way round the restriction that prevents people with rooted Android devices from being able to use Sky Go.
Follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/mod-magisk-v1-universal-systemless-t3432382
It involves:
1) returning to stock ROM (unrooted)
2) installing a custom recovery such as TWRP and booting into it
3) installing Magisk
4) installing Magisk's version of phh's Superuser
5) rebooting into system
6) installing phh's Superuser app
7) installing Magisk's management app
8) whenever wanting to use Sky Go, disabling root in Magisk's app
9) re-enabling root afterwards in the same app.
I can confirm this works reliably. I have it running on my rooted LG V10, having never managed to get Sky Go to run on a rooted device before.
Do bung the developer who invented Magisk a donation if it's worked for you and if you can.
Sent from my LG-H960 using XDA-Developers mobile app
My device: Gt-p7500 with lollipop aosp.
Sky go was detecting the rom (not rooted ) wasn't stock and it considered that as a root problem showing the error message. After many tests I assumed sky go was detecting the aosp rom by reading a string "key tests " in the build number and looking the SeLinux mode permissive.
The solution was: rooting the device, mounting system with twrp, downloading app "prop-editor "(play store) , edit the parameters of the build.prop file (under folder system) and replace every "key tests " string( with whatever you want) in the parameters., set enforcing mode of Se Linux by flasing a zip file ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=12047) After that full unrooted the device, reboot....and finally everything works. I hope it will be useful. Ciao.

S6 SM-G920P BoostMobile G920PVPU3BOL1 5.1.1 STOCK Root XposedFW Viper4A 2020

Stock out of box Samsung Galaxy S6 From Boost Mobile.
Disclaimer >>>Might Work With the Sprint S6, since Boost is just the prepay of Sprint, the same phone I think...
First to say this is a rare find (2015 Release) but if you can get your hands on this awesome handset it has, 8Cores, 32Gb of Memory, 16mp.Cam, and as far as i know the Last Samsung Galaxy With the iR Blaster. So I take No-Responsibility to any Malfunctions or Broken Devices. Personally Had Little to Zero Problems Achieving this I would say This is the Best, Most stable Rooted Device i'v ever owned.
Im Posting here expecting that everyone knows what ROOT, TWRP, CWM, SuperSU is, Developer Mode/How to activate, how to reboot to recovery/Download Mode, Flash via Odin, and use TWRP.
I'll try to put this whole thing in chronological order. so out of box... or anyone who can restore their device back to this build BOL1It Works Flawlessly, Very-Fast/ResponsiveSystem Wide Equalizer>V4A-starts on boot, Xposed FW, Xprivacy, Lightning Wall, and The Google PlayStore still works.
Take Phone out of box [UNACTIVATED/NOSIM/AIRPLANE] LoL... Turn on at home alone... DO NOT CONNECT TO WiFi/DATA it will force update BOL1. Dont sign in google Acc. or Samsung Acc. SET UP http://wakasoftware.com/app-freezer-setup/ Once Completed With Freezer App Set up Reboot and Freeze The following Apk.'s
Search (Update) in Freezer app. You should find [com.sec.android.fotaclient, com.wssyncmldm, com.sec.fwservice, com.sprint.ce.updater, and [NOT100%ON com.policydm] Disable them. Next search sprint in Freezer; Disable every apk. listed under sprint search [com.sprint.zone, com.sprint.psdg.sw, com.samsung.sprint.chameleon, com.sprint.w.installer, com.sprint.ce.updater, com.sprint.w.prefact, com.sprint.dsa, com.samsung.sprint.setupwizard, and com.sprint.voicemail]
You can probably leave voicemail enabled boost has theirs installed anyways. Not sure if sprint-Vmail works or not. Go ahead and freeze any bloat ware or apps you don't want. Disable at own risk. If something messes anything up, reboot to recovery, factory reset, then start over lol
THIS WILL TRIP KNOX
Alright now go developer options and turn on OEM unlocking (allow the Bootloader to be unlocked) Now im going to thank (spammy l) XDA Member for this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...ainfire-autoroot-stock-custom-kernel-t3294308
Follow That Root Method-Just USE THE LATEST SuperSU & TWRP instead. Im on [SU 2.82-SR3] & [twrp-3.3.1-0-zerofltespr] Once obtained Root, an have installed TWRP&BUSYBOX; Create a Custom Recovery backup-TWRP BEFORE you go on to install XposedFW.
You can connect to WiFi/Data, set up google, samsung accounts, and activate wireless services/put SiM Card Back/Disable-airplane-mode now that you have the sprint apps disabled. WARNING if you root this without sprint apps disabled sprint will detect root on the phone and try to force update and continuously restart the phone only 10seconds or so after bootup. I did not know this when i first activated my services. Even after i turned off wifi and pulled the sim card out it was still rebooting only 10seconds after bootup. Giving me only moments to navigate to freezer app and search ''sprint'' and freeze freeze freezze.... so thats why we freeze them first. Also by disabling the sprint Apk. s it Removed the Boost Mobile Boot Animation not sure which one but just FYI just see stock samsung boot.img cool still.
Next have to Thank (wanam Contributor/Developer) For Their Forum( https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960 ) on how to install XposedFW For [5.1/6.0]Lollipop/Marshmallow. Follow That to get Xposed Installed properly. Once flashed it dose take a few minuets to startup, it will boot cycle a couple times, be patient.
Last but my personal favorite piece of software to place in to the system, ViPER4Android-FX 2.5.0.5
My last shout-out goes to (kevintm78 Senior Member) for his method on installing V4A The Proper Way. Here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/themes-apps/how-to-viper4android-install-proper-t3691597) after all that you should make a new custom recovery point to save your work. Thanks to all just wanted to put all that into one place for this specific build of phone.
A Few Apk. s to Mention
--Galaxy Universal Remote Version 4.1.3 out there on the web<<aptoid
