I love AOSP, concept. But the lost of the LG stock camera, is keeping me "attached" to stock firmware. Is anyone working in porting the stock G3 camera to AOSP. If not, I think that we need a good developer as a volunteer for this work. I'm pret tu sure that the estire G3 community would really thankful in that case.
It might a good I idea to have a idea of the people interested in supporting this project.
If you find to have the Stock camera in AOSP is worthy, please vote +1. May be if you are enough, one of our talented developers, get interested in this project.
Thanks in advance.
:fingers-crossed:
Not possible to do that.
i don't think it's impossible.. someone ported this for g2 (although not working on ART)

Yes. I think so. I have read, about the LG G2 camera ported to AOSP.

Did anyone try the g2 camera app on the g3?
Stock-quality camera and Knock Code is keeping me attached to stock ROMs and there's barely any on the D852 Xposed module for Knock just don't cut it yet...
guys i installed g2 camera on a lollipop aosp rom.. it's working.. taking picture.. but dpi isn't fixed.. it's not full screen and icons haven't right size
It should work everything with the stock lg cam wich use not the lg framework.
But thats are only 3 things. 4kuhd recording and [email protected] and audiozoom.
I know that because i implemented it to freedcam.

I have done a first comparison series.
So far, at least, at broad-day light, I cannot see any significant difference in quality among Stock AOSP, Google, Lenovo and Stock G2 camera.
What do you think?

If you test with low light and try HDR you will see that it does not work.
The only HDR implementation currently working is with stock roms...
low light with non stock camera app is *&#**@ !!!!!
that g2 camera is taking picture well .. i hope someone fix dpi setting .. at least it'll be full screen
I'm on Cyanogen Rom and happy with the AOSP camera. I'm not an avid camera user and don't use stuff like 4k.

There is an alpha quality Cyanogenmod rom, look a few posts below this one. Need a 3rd party camera app but otherwise it works great.
My guess as to why so far the only Motoblur based roms (aside from CM7) is because many potential devs are waiting for CM7 to become a bit more stable/complete, and then use that as a base. Give it time, they will show up eventually.
The cameras are fine. Its a phone, what did you expect? Its not like great camera quality was an advertised feature. And with regards to the front facing one, of course its terrible quality, all front facing cameras are because they need to be as compact as possible.
The bootloader was only unlocked a few weeks ago. The source was released in less time. Getting the atrix down to barebones aosp/cyan7 will take a while, but as mentioned it's in alpha/beta stage right now. Patience is your friend. I'm guessing within a month or so, we'll at least have RC's available.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
Yeah front camera sux. LikePukemon said there is some work done on cm7 but they need more time to make it stable. I would say there is already many hacks done to atrix but dont expect any sense rom as its almost imposible to port htc stuff. Atrix is still fresh and new so give it another few moths for serious deals.

First of all, why would we make sense roms.
Second of all, there is a cm7.
Third of all, rooting your phone is always a good idea.
Fourth of all, the ffc is the same megapixels as all the other ffc is it not? Also, the main camera is great when you use d3 camera.

My wife injured her thumb recently and I took two pictures of her hand. One with the Stock ROM and another using CM9 and UCAM, which gave me the best results overall on any custom ROM. I thought I'd share the two pics so you could see the difference that the Stock ROM and Camera combination actually makes.
Both shots have identical lighting and background, etc. You can clearly see the distinction in the two images in terms of quality.

Take the same photo in the same lighting, etc. using the stock camera. Otherwise, there's no way to judge it. I had good shots with the CM9 camera on occasion, but I found that, overall the stock camera beat it nearly every time, and this direct comparison was just an example, so I thought I'd share.
I'd be interested in a comparison shot in the same lighting, etc. using the stock camera on the same SII if you can do it. That's how I did mine. Same device. Different ROM/Camera. This isn't my way of slamming CM9 or custom ROMs, because I loved CM9 while I was running it, and I may go back to it again, but the camera issue is a big one for many, so I thought I'd share the pics to give people a good comparison.

I don't see much difference either. The only thing I wonder is if maybe we have different camera hardware modules, because mine does seem to make more of a difference than yours, as my pictures illustrate, particularly in situations where the flash must fill in for shadows, etc. The stock camera does a better job of not blowing them out, as you can see.

Good review. I've now got version 10 installed and it is working perfectly. Super fast, no fc issues, and pretty decent battery life so far.
Thanks for all.
Hello,
Great ROM! I have a question though... Does anyone know where I can find the setting for Active Display? I'm not sure if the functionality is in there... I'm on V8.
Thank you in advance!
Nice video. I have a lot of faith in Temasek. He is a great dev!

I am interested in whether there is support for Bulgarian language! This stops me try! Sorry for bad English!
This ROM is amazing. There are some camera issues but as I never use the camera it's become my daily. The battery life is a huge step up from samsung ROMs, I put my phone through quite heavy usage and 1 charge a day is more than enough. Compare that to it basically living on the charger cable with other ROMs. I've had 6 devices and many variants of CM, this is right up there in terms of optimisation and speed. I'm sure once temasek resolves the few remaining issues it will be one to beat. Can't recommend it enough. Haven't been this excited for ROM releases since codefirex on my old desire HD.

I have a G900W8. I was fed up of the Samsung bloatware, so I installed the CM11 klte nightlies. It was great but the camera is consistently terrible, and my notification sounds didn't work. CM11 nightlies are obviously not in a release state.
Is there another ROM with a great camera (like stock) that has a pure Android interface or something similar? I don't use any of the Samsung apps and I never will. But I need a good camera!
Please advise!

It's not a good solution at all. I use Google Camera and Smart Camera/Better Camera too. If stock camera results are 9/10, Google Camera and Better Camera/Smart Camera results are 4/10. My photos are blurry and have no optical stabilisation. I want a rom with the same camera output as stock or almost as good.
Which Smart Camera are you talking about? Link?
Don't know compatibility but camerafx is always a good one. Alliance ROM is awesome. I have TW version 5.5 with AOSP theme and a nova launcher. KT kernel. Stock camera. Very fast ROM with AOSP look and feel and KT gives amazing battery. 900T

The problem is that CM11 obviously cannot access the camera hardware on the level that stock can. There is some kind of software optical stabilization in stock that is simply not present in CM11. I think it is a ROM problem, not a problem that can be resolved with a different camera app.
Does Alliance fit the criteria I'm looking for? Namely, a camera as good as stock, no Samsung bloatware, and a Aosp/CM feel of pure Android? I hate the TW notification and quickset panel. And I want the Google dialer.
Sent from my SM-G900W8 using XDA Free mobile app
Alliance does have the stock camera and you can opt to have no bloatware during the install. Having said that, it is a TW based rom so it has the TW style notification, quick set panel and dialer etc.
I'm in the same situation as yourself. I want an aosp rom but need a fully functioning camera and Bluetooth. So I've had to stick to TW based rooms for the time being.
Alliance does have themes, one called aosp but it doesn't make it look like stock aosp. It does give a more aosp feel though.

Well everything (including Bluetooth) works extremely well on the latest albinoman CM11 nightly, except for the camera. The camera takes reasonably good photos, but not as spectacular as stock. The only thing missing is the optical stabilization, which is mainly a problem if your hands shake.
So last week I tried going back to TW with Xtresolite and Alliance but I got completely fed up with the TW interface. It is really crap compared to pure Android! Every task takes more time to accomplish. Just the TW dialer drives me crazy. I love the Google dialer with built-in search.
So I went back to CM11, because I can live with "reasonably good" photos.
A friend of mine on the galaxy note 3 just tried a CM12 beta and he said the camera was dramatically better. I don't even understand how they did it, especially as devs don't yet have an official lollipop ROM to grab a cancers framework from...
So maybe albinoman's CM12 will have a better camera.
My hopes are pinned on Samsung coming out with a Google Play Edition, so we can just copy the rom. Maybe I'm hoping in vain...

I use Phoenix ROM ... minus all the bloatware, chooseable by the Aroma installer ...
After that installed 'System app remover' ... removed some more bloatware and apps I never use ...
After that updated everything else via Google Play.
Then installed 'System cleaner ROOT' from Flaki (use the first version, NOT System cleaner 2 !!! It's got a bug in integrating updates, if you do, you have to reflash because it will not boot anymore !!!)
After all this it's stabel, mean, lean and clean ...

I seen the old Moto camera posted before but not the new one. This is the stock Motorola Camera+ from the MotoX with Gallery. This is based of 5.X.X so it should work across most lollipop builds. I have tested this on stock and AOSP ROM's.

If you want the additional options (settings) to work you must change you're build.prop on the line that says "release-keys" to "tests keys". I will upload the build.prop also, I stripped out the OEM specific junk also. The exact line in the build prop to change is :
ro.build.tags=release-keys (original)
to
ro.build.tags=test-keys (changed)
Of course all the same rules apply. Myself or XDA are NOT responsible for the lack of common sense or stupidity, resulting in bootloops or non functional devices.

I actually have the new HTC camera on my N6 right now and I still think this camera gives better images. I went to a instant print machine the other day. I was really impressed of the quality of the pictures when printed.
Both the HTC and the Motorola are missing HDR options. The Motorola Camera has less functionality than the HTC camera, specifically I need to be able to set focus while 4K video recording.
The burst mode is very good on this one. Overall I think ALL camera apps are missing one thing or another, which I think is very frustrating.
LCamera is outdated, has no HDR and latest dev build has issues.
F5-V is slow & buggy atm and I don't like the UI, 4K video is broken, no HDR.
Manual Camera has great UI & Control but no video recording & HDR ?!!!!
Motorola has ****ty UI, but feels polished. Burst mode works great, but no HDR. No focus control while recording video.
HTC Camera has a ****ty UI and no HDR. (But is the best one overall with focus control during 4K Video recording)
Google Camera is a joke but is the only one with working HDR.
Pick your poison.
I would love a fully functioning ColorOS camera port.
Any advice ?
Um, I can look into porting it over. It might just work if you strip the apk out of the ROM.

I just downloaded it. If I have time I will work on it tonight. If not ,after memorial day I will get it done. I will also put it on my github so others can use it.
Just a quick update for anyone following this thread. I gathered up some source stuff and will be starting to dive into the ColorOS camera port along side a few others.
If you have any other camera that's not functional on the N6 post it in this thread and I will look into it.
I don't think HDR+ is even possible unless your on Google camera. It's closed source

Mostly closed. HDR+ is not impossible I think it can be done. Just need the right base and proper kernel. That's in future plans of mine.

Can you put in the 1st post what Version number is in your zip file? For both the Moto Camera and Moto Gallery?

I think I'd love you forever if this became a reality.

Lol I got sidetracked with developer preview. However, I do have the ColorOS camera running on the N6, but it won't take a picture when you press the button or force closes. I pinned it down to some kernel tweaks that need to be made. So no ETA's but I'm getting there.
