How do I use this thing? I Googled it but couldn't find much info. How do I add a server? Is it all done over WiFi?
How to use All Share
All Share allows you to stream pictures, video and music to and from your device over your local wifi network. It should work with DLNA certified devices. It works using uPnP. Basically, you can use it some TVs, home media servers and gaming consoles such as PS3. That said, I don't own anything like that. There is free software the will allow you to access and play files to and from your computer with ease.
I suggest XBMC.
Once XBMC is installed go to:
Configure Sysytem -> Settings -> Network
Check the following boxes:
1) Share video and music libraries through UPnP
2) Allow control of XBMC via UPnP
Now fire up All Share on your device select play file from your phone to device. In addition to your local computer you should see XBMC, select it and enjoy the stream. I've been very impressed with the video quality. I'm sure there are other application that will allow you to stream to your PC but so far this was the simplest solution I've found.
Oh and prepare to be disappointed, Avatar was not an option, aside from the trailer. If your looking to convert your own movies for mobile use I'd suggest you start with Handbrake. It's very easy to use.

It's intended to work over wifi only, however, this might be possible through ORB. It does recognize the device in All Share but frankly haven't tooled around with it much. I'll let you know what I find out.

I have been able to stream to my wdtv live with no issues. I don't have custom firmware, just the latest stock firmware.
However, my phone will not see wdtv as a server or nas? Which sucks cause that's where all the media is.
Playon, tversity, ps3media server and Xbmc all streamed media from a hard drive or my pc perfectly.
Playon was not able to stream, online media I.e. Hulu, adult swim.
I've been able to stream videos to my phone using AllShare from two of my Windows 7 machines, no additional software needed. I have a Homegroup setup and just have the the folders containing the videos shared with the Homegroup.

Windows 7 supports DLNA, which is what AllShare uses for media streaming. I'm able to share videos, music, and pictures over Wifi on my home network. I like to stream videos from my PCs to my phone for viewing either on my phone, or on my TV through the video out capability of the Vibrant's 3.5mm headphone jack.

I have windows 7, I created a homegroup and shared my libraries ...I cannot see the files or folders with allshare. It tell me no media. I restarted my computer and phone. I don't know what the problem is but I've been messing with it for a while now and thought I'd try and get some help

If you remember, what file format were you able to steam through playon to your phone? I couldn't get any files or online streams to work. Also did you use the "My Media" or the "Local Files" plug-in?

how to use allshare between vibrant and ps3?
hi guys... i've been reading all the threads on allshare but could not find an answer for the ps3 sharing. my ps3 recognized the vibrant right away but there was no content in video,audio or pictures. (yes i did choose files on the phone and added to playlist)..

Holy shiznit....This is bad ass...I can now stream all of my TV shows from my PC to my phone while I am laying in bed. Now I can watch episodes of Burn Notice while my wife hogs up the TV.
I just tried it and it works like a charm.
Those of you who aren't sure how to do it I will explain:
-Using Windows 7, download the latest Windows Media Player
-Add your videos to a playlist
-Open up Allshare and select the second option
-Find your playlist and start watching

So i can use XBMC and be able to control video on my PC from my phone, but when i try to play media on my PC to my phone the video and music library says no content. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...maybe I need my media in a specific folder? I tried my shared libraries in Win7, but nothing in those folders show up.

I had the same issue with Win7. Do you have the latest version of windows media player? If not upgrade, then make certain to select "allow remote control of my player" and "Automatically allow devices to play media" from the Stream tab in windows media player. This should to access the files instead of just seeing empty folders.
It works with an Xbox 360 using media center too.
Pretty useful for showing video clips on my phone via a bigger screen.

Still not working...I have the latest and enabled the two options listed, but when I select from my phone "play file from server on my phone" now my PC doesn't show up as an option.
The only time I see my PC as an option on my phone is if i'm running XBMC, but even then I don't see any videos to select.
Found this video that helped explain how to setup the video library in XBMC which was easy to do, but now when add any of my movies to the playlist it says it cannot play the video even though most of them are AVI...unless it can't play AVI on the phone player...if that's the case, that good sir is LAME.

If rooted - yes: install a kernel that includes cifs support and then use play app cifsmanager to mount network shares made available on your PC. Your shares will appear as part of the local filesystem tree (under /mnt/cifs by default) so any app can then access network content.

You can try using Zumocast
Try es file explorer. Swipe the screen left when on your files and you can add you computer to your network.

In MX Player Settings, check the S/W (network) option. It kind of worked for me. Please let me know if that works for you as well..Want to make sure that it was the thing that removed my lag..

Nothing special that I can recall...how is your network bandwidth? Do you have a good router? Could be a contributing factor to laggyness.

Use BS Player. Tried and tested..Videos work just great..!! Btw, I roughly get around 25 Mbps..And I dont think the router would make any difference as long as you have a decent network bandwidth...Hope this helps..

Check the VLC player pro!! The latest version is free and u can browse the PC and stream any file.. audio or video!! And the setup is just one click!

if you want a nice "front end" to browse your library then BubbleUpnp is the go. Hook that up with the free Plex server on the pc and away you go.
Otherwise, if you just want to browse the network with a file manager, thats not hard either.

I use "Emit" to stream downloaded movies from my Windows box. I was so pleased with the free version, I bought the adfree version for less tham £3.
I have to say that this is the only video streaming app I tried so the other recommendations here may be better but I was blown away when, while being driven up the M11 at 80mph, I tethered to my ageing HTC Desire and streamed a movie from my Win7 machine back at home. (Admittedly, I only ran the movie briefly as a test, so it may glitch after some time). Also a tethered demo to some mates in the pub last night worked flawlessly.
It goes without saying that wifi streaming also works perfectly.
Another slightly different streaming use: Additional to the above Windows machine, I have an Ubuntu machine running MythTV+Apache+Mythweb which I use as my PVR (Personal Video Recorder). I found that when using the Maxthon browser on the Nexus 7, I was able to browse to the Mythweb page generated by my MythTV box and click on the "Direct Download" option of one of my recorded programs. It then offered me the option of "Download" or "Play". (It's worth noting here that neither Chrome or Firefox offered this choice - they just began downloading the recording) If I select "Play" and then select the MX Player, the recorded program begins streaming perfectly.

If you're rooted you can stream for free. I'm using ES File Explorer and Dice Player. Works great for me with little setup. Just load up the samba server inside ES with you're pc's ip address and start streaming. I tried a few others but this one works the best for me. No lag when watching movies or listening to music. :good:
I tried quite a few players including MX Player before settling on BS Player. For me it seems to be the best when streaming MKVs over WiFi.
I use UPnPlay here. Basically just plugging my devices into the allshare setup I'm using between my PC and TV.

how exactly are you playing these files? I checked that box off but my videos dont even open with MXplayer. im using gmote, browse for the file and click it and it opens up in gmotes player. you do it differently?

When I bought the Nexus 10, my original thought was to use it to watch movies. Meaning, stream video from my pc using the wifi LAN (I also thought to use it as a streamer by connecting it to my TV via HDMI, but that's another story).
However, this doesn't work right. There are many movies that appear laggy/jumpy/buggy on the Nexus 10 itself (even without connecting it to a TV via HDMI).
Especially when I try to play high quality 1080p mkv files (about 10GB-15GB per movie). I don't have issues with lower quality 720p movies/series, but half the 1080p movies I just can't play right.
I have tried the following players: MX player, BS player, VLC beta, XMBC for android.

did you try to put the file on your N10 instead of streaming it? That will rule out any potential WIFI bottleneck which may occur with files that size. Just to be sure. I cannot offer any other advice unfortunately.

Have you tried MX player's hw+ mode? Also try dice player. I have tried a higher resolution than 1080 and it worked fine in MX but it was mp4!
As I have no bluray remuxes or space on my tablet to try them, I have downloaded the test video called "Birds" from here, 40 mbps bluray remux and with MX player I can play it using HW codec with no stutter or lag. With SW Codec it has stutter and through network stream from PC with SW codec it stutters as well, and HW codec doesn't seem to work at all through network stream

I have made several trials according to your advices. The problem is indeed the wifi.
I have copied a movie that didn't run well through wifi to my N10 ("The Host" - 12GB), and it ran just fine with both BS and MX!
I have also tried "birds" from the post above me. When I tried to run it through wifi:
- MX player with hw+ was completely stuck on the first picture.
- BS player with experimental decoding was very bad, but a bit better than MX.
I have tried it with the N10 very close to the router, so it's not bad wifi reception.
When I copied "birds" file to my N10, it ran just fine with both MX and BS. Since it's 40mps bluray, it's much heavier than any of my 10-15GB movies in terms of mpbs.
Anyway, the problem is indeed caused by the wifi, which is a major bottleneck. Now the question is where is exactly the problem: the router (I have N type router)? N10 wifi? my computer wired Ethernet connection to the router?
How do regular streamers work with 1080p content?
Can I do anything to fix this bottleneck? Perhaps a better router?
What if I use usb OTG and connect USB DOK directly to the N10, do you think it may work?

Ah glad you got it to work finally. Yes the router can play a part in it, however if you are happy with your wifi setup otherwise (stability, range etc) I would not change the router just for this. There is no guarantee that a different router may indeed play your file without hiccups. It may also be that the tablet wifi is not up to the task of streaming the movies, but this is just an assumption on my part.
The cheapest solution, while not the most comfortable one, would be to use an OTG cable and a nice 64GB USB stick and just fill that with movies when you want to watch them. Maybe you can find more info on the net regarding streaming and wifi issues and solutions, but be ready to drop some cash for those routers.

I have the same router type N, cheap one that came free from my ISP, talktalk, and exactly the same issues when trying to play through network. I know that when trying to copy something through LAN from my PC to my tablet via ES File Explorer, it only downloads at 300KB/s, which is slower then when I download something off the internet at 1.8MB/s (which is the maximum I get from my ISP) so this leads me to believe that the problem isn't the router, because it can download fast enough for 1080p (maybe not fast enough for that "birds" test at 40mbps, though) this leaves the protocol that android uses to talk to windows PC, the Samba share or something like that.
Do you use windows as well? I'm thinking of trying to stream through a linux share, see how that goes.
I also use Windows - I've defined a user with password on windows and I connect to the workgroup on my pc with it. Perhaps you are right and this is the issue. Please update if you find a faster way to stream.
What if we use an external hdd which will connect to the router? You think it might help?

Hey, I've made some good progress.
I downloaded an app called MediaHouse UPnP / DLNA Browser from app store and a uPnP server (I used XBMC - all I had to do to set it up after installing it was to add my movies folder under videos and then go into system>settings>services>uPnP and select share video and libraries trough UPnP) and that's it. Then I just open MediaHouse on my Nexus 10 (leave xbmc in background on pc) and browse my files... It works much better then the normal share: I can play movies that I couldn't play before with MX Player and play them using HW+ decoder. The "Birds" demo isn't great but it's much better, I had the best results using bs player, but still a bit laggy, but since you say your videos aren't quite that high in bitrate, maybe you'll get lucky.

Thank you, this is indeed a very good progress. I was able to play 1080p movies!
Only problem is I can't stream .srt subtitles files along with the movie. The srt file is at the same directory of the movie. XMBC on my pc plays the subtitles, but on my N10 using MediaHouse, it's just being ignored.
Any advice?

OK, apparently uPnP doesn't support subtitles, but I have been able to copy the sub file over, normally, using ES file explorer and then, after you load the movie via mediahouse, in mx player you can click on menu>subtitles>open and select the file from your local storage where you saved it.

Here is an alternate OTG solution that I use for HD content of all types.(OTG USB Gigabit Ethernet adapter). Just a thought. Note that the drivers for this adapter are in the stock ROM.

I've found another solution:
Using MKVmerge, you can easily merge mkv and srt file. It takes only 2-3 minutes for a movie. Output file is mkv file with embedded subtitles. I've checked it and MX player shows the subtitles just fine via MediaHouse.

It took a while but I read the whole thread! I'm happy that you mostly solved your issue, about the Wi-Fi issue it's caused by your LAN speed, I use my old Xoom as media server here, sometimes it becomes really laggy, I solved this problem connecting both the devices (Nexus 10 and Xoom) on my S4 hotspot, believe this is FAST! Using SuperBeam app I usually get from 35-40Mbps. I think most of the android phones with hotspot functionality may have good speeds.
I use Bubble UPnP BTW! Also, if you think too uncomfortable having to manually select your subtitle, I believe BS Player still downloads it automatically and put on auto too. It used to do this with me, I don't know if it still downloads .
Well, those are just some more alternatives you may want to try . As there are some good solutions over there!

I have found a way to stream external srt subtitles along with the movie, using uPnP.
Apparently, only some uPnP media servers and clients support it. In addition, only some movie players can extract this information when streamed through uPnP. I've found several such uPnP media servers, but most of them require payment after a trial period. However, I've managed to find one that doesn't!
So, in order to stream videos with external srt, you need the following:
1. Serviio on you PC.
2. BubbleUPnP on your android device.
3. MX player on your android device.
4. The srt file should have the same name of the movie file, and they have to reside both at the same directory in your PC.

You are mistaken - read again the thread. The bottleneck is not the LAN speed or the router, it's smb/cisf protocol, which is too slow to stream 1080p videos. Using uPnP protocol instead of smb/cisf, over the same LAN and with the same router, we have managed to solves the issue.

i was searching for hours now without luck.
I read there is an DLNA Native Client in our LGG2 but only thing I found Is smartshare (stream to tv) smartshare beam ...
When I had Allshare on Samsung i could pretty see my WMP dlna server with files to play. Or play from Laptop via "Send to"
I repeat , I want to play Video files or Music on LGG2 streaming from Windows Media Player via DLNA.
Do I need an external app for this?

No, you don't need nothing. If Windows Media Player streaming is turned on you got to start stock Video player and choose in upper list "Nearby devices" and you'll all your WMP files. No need to BubbleUPnP or smthng
I have "Toshiba 43" 4K UHD HDR LED Fire Smart TV (43LF711C20)" with Dolby Vision support.
When I try to play movie from network share the picture is green/violet. I tried different players from app store with same result

Try getting a different copy of the movie from somewhere else - the copy you have might be corrupt.

This indicates that the TV is not getting and decoding the DoVi layer. In order to get DoVi to work on many TVs you have to switch HDMI format from standard to enhanced. I don't think that this applies to the TVs internal apps and OS but it might be good to look for something like that.
Have you set dynamic range to adaptive under fireOS settings? Is this happening in multiple apps?
This TV has VERY limited settings

It made to show you as much as possible paid promotions.

Ah ok, yeah I was wondering if you were talking about commercial apps or video players.
A lot of video players don't support DoVi. I don't think Nova Player does:

I haven't had any major problems playing DoVi in Plex. The one problem I have noticed is that DoVi files using an .MP4 containers don't play without a lot of buffering. Remuxing to MKV (MKVtoolnix) makes them play fine.
So the good news is it isn't you, it's your app.

Yeah, Plex is for streaming videos from another device like a laptop.
If you really want to play files locally off of a flash drive, I tested a couple players
MPV - No
Nova Player - No
VLC - No
Just Player - Yes

I would see if you can install the Plex server on the DLink NAS and then run the Plex client on the FireTV. This will give you the most pleasant and lightweight interface.
You will have to see if it's possible to install.

I'm not sure if Just Player can access a NAS, it doesn't look like it.
If you can't get the Plex Server installed, Kodi can play from a NAS. Kodi is a favorite of a lot of people.
Unfortunately there is fix for DNS-327L / DNS-340L. I have 3 of DNS-320 and 1 DNS-320L

You can still use Kodi, a lot of people prefer it over Plex anyway.

Kodi is very flexible, but at the cost of more complicated.

If you haven't sideloaded apps on your FireTV yet, Kodi might have a steep learning curve. You are going to need to do some googling.
