can anybody recommend me a ebook converter / maker
got me a book as txt and i really would pref reading it as
ebook lit or at least pdf
i know i can just search google but there are soo many of them some are shareware some are comerical some are free.....
it's a jungle out there!
PErsonally I use mobipocket, for a couple of reasons..
It supports OEB (Non- protected books, so in 10 years time you will still be able to read them)
The reader is free (on the website it is advertised as a trial - this is for the pro version, install it anyway under the trial, aftrer the trial ends you can still use the software but some of the more complex functions are disabled -like autoscroll)
The reader will operate on palm or PPC - meaning I can share my books with my friends who have palm, rather than having to reformat them.
They also supply a publisher program for creating the books, this is free for home use.
It's not microsoft

The reader I use is muBook from http://gowerpoint.com/.
It can handle .PDB, .PRC, .TXT, .RTF and .HTML as e-books, and display inline .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, .WMF (in RTF) or .BMP.
If you're starting from a TXT file, you don't gain much by converting it to an e-book format, unless you add niceties like an index.
Which book is it? If it's out of copyright, you may be able to get it from manybooks in an e-book format (with index etc.).
well as to which book it is then no it's not a copyrighted book and it's not a book you'd find anywhere on the internet, somebody i know wrote it and all
i wanted to make it ebookish
because then when reading it i would be able to put bookmarks in and get a bit better more cleartypish font then the std notepad
as a rule just make it's easier and more easy to read it

Hi,
I use mobipocket too and I guess, it is a great program. You can convert your .txt - file with mobipocket publisher 3.0.
You don´t need the profressional version and you have the possibiblity to take indexes and a lot of more features of formatted textes and add your bookmarks and other features.

well i of cause have that ms ebook reader and i have acrobat reader if at all possible i would pref not installing any more ebook readers on my xda2

I guess, you will be able to convert your text into pdf- or -lit - format. But the readers have less features, the files are much bigger - but it is possible...
First I had the microsoft reader and the pdf-reader too. Now I have only the mobipocket-reader...

Microsoft have a plugin for MS word that will convert a document into eBook .lit format.

uBook will give you the choice of any font you like, with 3 different modes of anti-aliasing/alpha blending, multiple styles/backgrounds, font sizes/colors, columns, bookmarks, annotations, and it will even figure out headings etc. (for example convert CHAPTER 1 to a chapter heading). No conversion necessary. It just works.
Why lock yourself into some company's proprietary e-book format, when there's great, free, open source software that will read all sorts of formats, and offers a lot of options? If you're using an e-book reader that doesn't read .TXT files and can display them nicely, then you're cheating yourself.
You can also try PDF Printer . It supports Vista.
Does anyone know any apps which will allow me to place bookmarks and whatnot for .txt and html files? I liked what I read about the functionality of mobipocket reader but hate that it's so restrictive.
I like Isilo. Otherwise, a very old school but useful app is StarBuck.

Hi,
I using my htc touch hd for reading scientific papers which almost al of them are in pdf format. The high resolution screen of the HD makes it quite clear and comfortable to read. However Adobe Reader LE is lacking the highlight and mark text options which is really unhandy for me.
Does anyone knows another pdf reader which does containt these options? If so, would it be able to actually safe those highlighted texts as addition layer and transfer it to pc. The meaning is to be able to read and mark publication when travelling and to be able to read them on pc with the saved highlighted text.

Hi. I use Repligo by Cerience.com - converts PDF to their own format and lets you highlight, comment & set bookmarks. Take a look! I've had this program for years but I can't find it now on their site for WinMo. If no sucess try Foxit Reader instead - a good pdf reader.

Modifying an application requires some effort.
You must do some reverse engineering and then modification.
If the application is one that you've never heard of and aren't even interested in trying,
then the motivation to expend some effort is missing.
If this "Repligo" reader has page turn animations, then it is surely not designed for eInk.
If you were going to make Repligo Nook Touch compatible you'd want to add in EpdController functionality.
So what is so special about Repligo over and above the handful of reader apps already discussed here?
repligo has a variety of options for annotation, highlighting and it supports multi-touch ...it's really helpful for technical docs...what apps do u suggest for pdf technical books..i'm a chemical engineering student and I read a lot of papers full of formulas and figures..

IMHO pdf sucks on a small screen, unless text reflow can do a decent job, which is unlikely when you have
text and figures..
Have you tried to see if "NoRefresh" helps with Repligo animation?
Other Common pdf readers here are
Mantano, (has a free version)
EZpdf (paid)

ezpdf has lots of excess flashing and also slower than repligo...mantano is good but the only problem is that when I annotate a book it does not save on the book in order to watch it later on your labtop...but repligo saves the annotation right on the original pdf...
I recently found great use in exporting my s-notes as PDFs, so I couldview them along side other s-notes in multiview. I probably should have figured out this trick earlier, but I realized there is a lot I could ptobably use PDF formats for, that I don't know yet.
I was wondering what PDF related tricks on the Note 10.1 other XDA members have picked up, and if anyone knew a few good PDF uses that I might not know, or good starting resources for me to find out what else PDFs are capable of.
For my college PDFs & s-notes, I would really like to know the best way to splice, combine, & change the page order of PDF files. Can anyone recommend a handy app or program for this purpose?
Thanks. I keep finding new capabilities for this tablet every week, & I got it within a month of its original release!
I don't know if this is included in snote but with ln you can add an index to every page of your notes. So I handled it that way that I do write every new topic or the exercise I am currently doing to the pages index and after exporting as PDF and syncing with my laptop machine I can make use of any 'search application' to look up something within all the amount of my notes. As a hint under Linux I do use 'recoll' to scan my pdf, but I'm sure there will be others that do that as well.
Got my point? Otherwise I can explain it more detailed later, spare time atm.
