Hi,
I've had this tablet for a while and recently decided to install a custom rom. I've been rooted for a while, but left it mostly stock. My problem is that I can't find a custom recovery that works as advertised. Philz seems to have problems formatting the cache and TWRP doesn't seem to work properly either (people keep posting that 2.6.3.3 works, but that version isn't available for download on the TWRP site). Not only do they all seem to have problems wiping the cache and whatnot, but once I install them I can longer boot into recovery mode using the hardware button.
Is there a recovery that actually works properly? Where I can properly wipe the device to install a new ROM and where I can boot into recovery if something goes wrong?

I am using TWRP 2.3.1.0 and no matter what ROM I flash with it the system gets stuck on the Acer logo. I had ClockworkMod before and it worked fine most of the time. The reason I switched was because the latest 4.2 ROMs didn't work with ClockworkMod. I switched to TWRP using the Acer recovery installer app. Then I did a full wipe without doing a backup (the ROM that I had there before wasn't that stable so I didn't bother). Then I tried installing a couple of CM10 ROMs using TWRP. The ROMs actually went hrough the install process fine, but every single one I've tried so far with TWRP gets stuck on the Acer logo. Then I went back and tried 4.1 and even 3.x ROMs and they all install, but can't get past the Acer logo. Is there an easy way to use TWRP to go back to ClockworkMod so I can get something installed and get past the Acer logo? Thank you in advance for your help.

Thanks for your reply. I tried doing that and it makes no difference. I am not sure why TWRP doesn't work for me, but if I could use it to get ClockWorkMod back I think I'd be ok
What ROM were you running when u changed recovery to twrp...
What do u see using pwr/vol+ buttons?
Without the unlocked bootloader v8 you won't be able to flash any ICS/Jb ROMs or change recovery...

Okay Idk what's going on exactly but I've tried downloading sacs custom 7.2 several times md5s all check out and when I go to flash it in twrp 2.6.3 it fails same with twrp 2.5.2.zip they both keep failing. However I was recently able to flash miuiv5 after a download so the recovery is still working (also it restores backups fine)... So. I'm wondering what's going on here they aren't bad files and it just won't flash! Does this rom have that aroma installer? Am I missing something that allows that?
Currently running trifforce 3.1 with agat kernel and twrp 2.63

It could be a product assert. If the TWRP is not made for t0ltespr (Sprint Note II) or ROM isn't made for that the two could be trying to verify the wrong model against each other and failing. You can remove this from the zip by looking for the assert in update-script.
Another option if you're open to it is to try my unofficial CWM and see if that avoids your issue.
Good luck!
rom help
In order for it to work, you need to flash sach's custom rom version 7.0. Let it do a full install and setup, then boot back into recovery. Then flash the 7.1 or 7.2 update. Hope this helps.

Do Not, I repeat DO NOT do a system wipe in TWRP after installing 7.0 or 7.1. Let the aroma installer do the wipe. I learned the hard way, I wiped it myself and went to update to 7.2 and got nothing but failure notices. Once I re-flashed 7.1 and let the aroma installer do the wipe, it installed with no problem
ive always done a system wipe with no problems. be sure you are downloading the full rom and not the update. and make sure your downloading from a pc over a good wifi conection, then i make sure the file size is about the same size before transferring and flashing. hope this helps

After wiping system, caches, data in Twrp advanced wiped are you getting the fail? if so just reboot recovery and try to install again without wiping. I have had the flash fail for me too and a recovery reboot solved the issue for me. Also in aroma don't factory reset wipe just wipe cache and dalvik. Also I am on TWRP 2.6.3.1

OK, so I have rooted my LGG2 (international, UK, 3 network) and wanted to install a different rom. I followed the instructions to install TWRP and have installed rom manager app. In rom manager I have set current recovery to TWRP and gone to reboot into recovery. This, however, doesn't boot into TWRP. It boots into standard android recovery. Any idea what I have done wrong? Is there perhaps a different TWRP I need? I watched a guy on youtube do it all with ease and it just seems I've had nothing but problems! If I can get TWRP working, I'm sure I can effectively progress further, but at the moment I'm tempted to just unroot it and regain some of the apps I'm not allowed to use, due to the problems I have faced
Any help is greatly appreciated
How did you install recovery, autorec?
If so you're good to go just hit power button x3 through that screen as if you're going to factory reset. It takes you to recovery.

not 100%
I can't exactly remmebr I've done it all in drips and drabs. I think I flashed it with usb. But don't recall. I haven't heard of autorec. But when I use ROm manager, it tells me I have twrp installed. But I select it as the recovery in rom maanger, reset my phone and it goes to the standard android recovery not twrp. And press power x3 when? i just tried in android recovery and it just rebooted the device. I tried while booting and nothing...
Are you on kitkat? I'm sure 3 got ota already.
I'll get link for autorec. Its easy to set up, just install and run.

yeah
thats right im on kitkat. I'll check out that autorec if you think it will help, perhaps twrp wasnt installed properly and thats the issue? When I use twrp manager for play store, it tells me "something went worng, seems we can't get information for your device" after i select g2d802. Worth a shot at autorec

Hey Everyone
My note 3 roots fine using auto-root and I have tried twrp, cwm, and also philz recovery. They all install fine to my knowledge. However, Once I boot into recovery to flash the custom ROM. I delete cache, user data and delvik and reboot back into recovery I install the rom from sd card it fails. No matter what Rom I used. I have tried Sacs, X-Note, C-Rom, Anthem, no matter what it always freezes and I have to restore stock. Any ideas?
Thanks

After the custom rom (X-Note,BobCat), my Note3 sm-n9005 freezes randomly, and a boot is required.
The problem doesn't occur when using cyanogenmod 11.
BR,
I have the same problem. Can only install asop ROMs but touchwiz ROM won't boot after install. Phil recovery doesn't work for me. Any assistance would be great

I was running (and am after the restore) Android 4.3.1 slimBean jflteatt build.2official.
So my friend convinced me to try CM12 lolipop nightly.
I made a backup wiped everything and installed CM12 and the gapps.
upon boot after the instalation all the play services were crashing so we reinstalled CM 12 but without GAPPS and all was fine.
BUT now i CAN"T reboot my phone. Regardless of ROM (except stock) the att galaxy s4 gets stuck on the boot splash screen (the screen before the boot screen) The screen it gets stuck on looks like this: http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/8910/20120813002112.jpg
The screen used to look like this: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aCD7kATq-to/UaIBfYW5oKI/AAAAAAAAO88/ShlHR6459kk/s1600/boots4.gif
I have tried restoring and installing a clean ROM but that did not solve my problem. Only way for me to restore is to wipe everything, then format the data and the restore. I restored to stock TW MDL via a TWRP backup i have.
I am running TWRP 2.5.0.1 (I think). I am currently using the SlimRoms 3.4.0 kernal. I am rooted according to root checker.
Can someone please help me solve the reboot problem? (Could it have anything to do with Xposed?)
I would update twrp and try again. You have an old version.

i have 2.5.0.2, what do you suggest i update to ? (and how?)
I've been afraid to update anything because if it aint broke don't fix it.
Do you suggest TWRP 2.8.0.1 touch recovery [2014-09-12]
as this suggests?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2413746
thank you for your reply.

Flashing roms in an old version of twrp won't work. If your rooted, which I assume you are, get flashify forum the play store. Then download the latest twrp.img and flash it in flashify. http://dl.twrp.me/jflteatt/ The link is for the at&t s4, if you have a different variant you'll need a different image.

If you want cm12 download the zip and gapps and flash those in twrp. Do the default wipe in twrp first. Note, it will wipe your apps but if you have had Google backup your device it will restore them.

I don't wan't CM12 at this moment. I just need to have old SlimRom working without the reboot issue. too much business related data there at the moment. So should i reinstall slimRom and the restore that data maybe?
Could it be the slimKernal? Ive had the problem where it gets stuck at that screen for a long time now but id just do a batery pull and turn it on and it would work after 2-3 tries.
