Well, I haven't been using my nook touch for about a month, and I decided to boot it up. I realized that it's probably dead, so I charged it for a day. When I tried to turn it on, all it did is go to a white screen and then a half dark and half white screen. I can't turn it in, no matter how long I press the button. Please help! Yes, it is rooted

Yes it has, but I doubt that It is correct, because when I unplug the charger and plug it back in, the light turns orange again.

Don't worry about that - that actually happens with all NSTs, including mine.
Now, to begin troubleshooting: Please describe in as much detail as possible what the screen of your Nook looks like currently. A photograph wouldn't hurt.

It's grey on the left half and white on the right. There are two skinny lines of grey toward the middle on the right hand side. Sorry for no picture, but there's not much to see anyways.

Sounds like a very bad case of stuck pixels to me.
Now, last question (I think) - you have not been able to get the Nook to change the screen at all since you first tried to boot up, right?

Yes, I have. It was on my screensaver during my first attempt, then flickered to a white screen. After that, the half and half.

Okay. Well, unfortunately, the extent of the instructions I can give to you is very short. I've done a bit of troubleshooting with Nook people before who have problems like yours (stuck pixels), and what eventually fixed them was time. If you just leave your Nook in its current state in a secure, room-temperature location, eventually the screen will/should fix itself.
The only other option would be buying and installing a new screen, and I don't even know if there are any NST screens on the market anymore (since it's a deprecated device).
Sorry about this. :crying:

What?
You got into the Download mode....
That is used to flash with ODIN3.
If you are not using it to flash your device right now, you may Sir. turn off your device and boot it up again, or even remove the battery.
If you are flashing you should see by now a green bar growing on your screen. Do no turn off your phone by this time!
thanks guys...i just held the power button for 10 seconds, its ok (i was sort of scared that i might brick the phone if i pull the battery). Wow...this forum is awesome, I got responses almost instantly! Thanks
you sure it's green?
the last time i flashed mine was a purple download line going across the screen
ahh never mind, you were talking about the Odin3 side.

No Sir.! I was actually talking about the bar which grows on our device screens, you sure it is Purple?
I was really convinced it was green, damn me
both times i loaded a new ROM it was purple going across the screen
either it's my eyes having colour problem, or you are, or maybe each devices really picks a colour at random
LOL

Haha.
I will have a better look at it next time
mine was green......maybe its just how the phone is feeling at the moment?? haha
If it doesnot have the 3 button recovery, the white "samsung i9000m" splash screen will keep cycling over and over... when that happens do we do the same thing (remove battery or power off)?
I want to test a unit at a bell store before buying but dont want to "break" it.
If you are not in the process of flashing, a battery pull would do.

Take out the battery and put back in. then switch your phone on. Sorted.

Assuming your phone is not physically damaged, you can try pulling the battery, then reinserting it and turning on your phone.
i took it out and left it out for a night and put back in and still nothing. the phone is in new condition. the pc wont read it also

Great! Hopefully, things will work out well, and your next thread will not be so panicky that you will actually have time for both punctuation and capitals.
lol i really suck at that.
I have an issue with the screen of my Nook simple touch. The refresh rate of my screen went down a small amount, and there is this large area of the screen where the black parts of the screen are not showing up. I will attach pictures. It is most visible when reading and when in the app drawer. This started when I began to use a custom background image for the home screen and the lock screen, but I am sure this is a hardware issue. Should I attempt to hide all traces of my root and go and attempt to return it? I have had this for about 3 weeks, so it is still under warranty.
Thanks!

Try rebooting your Nook. That may or may not do anything.
That does look pretty horrid. Almost looks like a finger run from bottom left-ish up the center. Does it start out clear, then degrade to this, or is it always this bad? Is it OK in the reader and the B&N home screen?
Keep in mind, anything not written by B&N probably doesn't refresh as often as it should for a clear display. Next time this happens, force a refresh by pressing the 'n' (shortcut menu) hard button twice. That can help if the display gradually degrades.
Did you find a solution?
I had the same problem too. Only the bottom left corner is working.
Attached the screensaver page.

Out of curiosity - could you post your custom background image too?
Does it resemble traces on second image you posted?
Thanks for all the response! Once I get to a computer I will respond to this.

I've never heard about "Stuck Pixels/Screen Burn" on E-Ink yet, but that's how it looks like...
But than we should all see them, because it's not that many screensaver images.
I'm
Ok. I think I figured out what went wrong.
During charging, my battery failed and overheated. This caused the battery to be stupid and overheat whenever it is charging, or for some odd reason, not in use for a period of time. The way to fix my issue is restart it 10 or 20 times, and let it sit outside (while it is cold, otherwise put it in your fridge) for about 10 minutes.
My question is:
Is there any way to replace the battery of my Nook? Or is it easier to hide all traces of root and take it back to Barnes and Noble? (I bought it 3 weeks ago)

Oh… AFAIK, these types of battery lose it capacity if exposed to negative temperatures (in Celsius, below water freezing point)

AFAIR, it’s two weeks unless you bought a protection plan...
I might be mistaken (both times). Please somebody correct, if I’m wrong…

Got the same problem right now, trying to solve it. Was about to post new topic but saw yours. Can you boot your device into bootloader? Mine seems to be able to do that and I see everything but once it shows the Google logo during normal boot or recovery, the screen goes dark and blank.
Very mysterious indeed, never seen this issue before...
Hoping someone can shed some light on this...

Can you remind me of how you did it?
Cause vol up+power\vol down+power won't work for me
What screen have you bought?
Cause I was super anxious about getting original Hydis, now chungwa they now sell everywhere
at first, I would think that I somehow messed uo the cable - but if you are saying, that you are able to boot
mystery!
I guess, we need some experienced service man here

Vol down + power. Though upon further reassembly, it seemed to get worse. Now my screen won't even light up or show anything. Try shining a flashlight on the LCD panel. Do you see anything? If you do, it's likely a bad data cable. In which case, you should find one on eBay.
deltatux
It isn't working at all(
But I can't be 100% sure, cause I've so many change cycles
Buying things on ebay means +1 month of waiting, so I'd prefer to know exactly, will the new cable heal me tablet
Anyway, have you decided, what happened to your screen?

For me since I shone a light and there is something showing underneath and I know that the panel should work since I did see a Google logo and fastboot did properly show up before I reassembled it again 2 times before it completely disappeared, It's likely the data cable, so I repurchased a data cable from eBay.
Have you tried shining a light on to the LCD panel to see if you see anything? If not, it's likely a faulty LCD panel.

So, my device had been acting funny for a while, automatically shutting down, stuck on boot loop, fingerprint not being recognised, battery draining really quick.
But since they had been a minor inconvenience, I didn't look in to the problem. But today morning, while I was watching a vid on the Youtube app, the brightness of the phone suddenly decreased, and using the brightness slider had no effect. And then, after a while, the screen went black, with only the finger print sensor vibrating, if touched. When i connect it to the charger, the LED light does not flash. It is not even getting detected when I connect it to the PC via USB.
Any help please ? I think the warranty has run out.
P.S. - All these errors seem to be taking place after the an update. Though I don't remember which one. Also, running stock ROM, didn't flash anything.

I did as you asked. The phone vibrates as if restarting. But there's no display or sound.
Also, I remember just before it went dark, it had just started raining, maybe one drop fell on the screen. Is any way that's the cause of my problem ?
