Multi window is confusing. - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I owned The N4 For 3 days now andI really like it.But I do not understand the options of MW view. Can you tell me what does the first option in the screenshot do?
Thank You!

Swipe down from any of top corners. (not all apps works)

The first option in the screenshot is for apps that supports it, for example, when you enable this option, content (videos) in the stock video player will automatically open in a new window instead of fullscreen.

Multiwindow on any AOSP/CM rom [Xposed][Working]

Warning : Do not install this if you're running art on 4.4 (xposed works only with dalvik) or any other rom with multiwindow framework built in like mokee.
Here's a guide to XhaloFloatingWindow Xposed module :
Firstly basic installation Guide and Original thread
After following the guide, you will be able to launch notifications in floating window like halo, but you'll need a secondary launcher like floating notifications or bubble launcher to launch apps in floating mode.
But to get true multi window(not just halo like behaviour), do the following in xHaloFloatingWindow app.
In popup behaviour:
1) App pausing is off.
2) disable auto close checked.
3)force new windows in halo checked
4) show app in recents checked (this one's your choice)
In movable and resize :
1) turn on movable and resize
2)in titlebar settings, enable title bar.
3)in moving settings, enable all.
4)in resizing settings, nothing is on.
5) in system ui mods, prevent moving home to the front is checked, rest is off.
And the result is .....drum roll.... multi window like behaviour.
See screen shots attached
Feel free to experiment and post your results. I'm on Cm11 by CodyF86.
P.S : for some reason, opening more than one app on home screen causes the new app to hide previous app. I just open a random app, like contacts app and now opening new apps wont hide previous apps.

Only it suits for simple roms without halo or omni multiwindow. ...
You can use SensonicHD rom it has in built unlimited floating multiwindow. ...you may refer bellow.... ...

I love it! it's great for tablets, but I guess it's still pretty new? some apps don't function so well with it.You said something about bubble launcher and floating notifications. I've tried bubble launcher and didn't see the difference. Maybe I've configured it wrong?
Thanks for posting!:good:

Multi Window Tutorial

A while ago someone posted a thread about Remix OS which really made me think how good that would be. Unfortunately as we can see development for this device is next to 0 so i decided make this guide for anyone who might want to have a similar experience on a stock rooted rom with xposed.
***I DID NOT MAKE ANY OF THESE APPS, I JUST ZIPPED THOSE THAT I USE AND MADE THIS TUTORIAL SO THOSE THAT WANT THIS DONT NEED TO SEARCH EVERYWHERE TO FIND THEM***
***The xhalomultiwindow beta app was found near the end of the xhalomultiwindow thread and the sidebar is from another thread on XDA and all credits for the apps go to their creators***
Firstly ... there are bugs like sometimes something will force close or some apps might freak out a bit when being resized in the floating mode and not scale properly but it works in my opinion well enough for every day use.
With this tutorial i assume that you have xposed installed and running. If you dont, just do a fast google search for *xposed for lollipop 64 bit* or something similar and you will find it on XDA.
1. Download the zip in this post and extract with 7zip
2. Install the Xhalofloatingwindow-beta apk
3. Activate module in Xposed installer and reboot
4. Install the sidebar apk
5. Run the Toggle MultiWindowSidebar app from your app drawer(this should make a arrow in a white semi circle show up on the right side of the screen-the sidebar)
6. Run the MultiWindowSidebar app from the app drawer and enable start on boot and keep service in background. Here you also add in the apps you want to have and choose how they open if you drag them or tap them from the sidebar. I have it set in Drag Launch Mode to XhaloFloatingWIndow Portrait (landscape has weird scaling) and in Tap Launch Mode to Default which will open the app like normal android would
7. Open xHaloFloatingWindow from the app drawer and in the Popup WIndow menu set the Popup Dim to 0% (it is a matter of personal taste but i like it more this way with no dimming)
8. On the next page (swipe right to movable and resizeable) enable the switch and here you can play around a bit with the settings and set them as you like
9. Do a reboot just for good measure, it probably isnt needed but i did it anyway.
10. Have fun and dont try to kill me if something freaks out because you made the window 1x1cm
Another app that works nicely with this but is totally standalone is OGyoutube, while you can use normal youtube with this the OG app also allows playing in background downloading and playing with the screen off so i would highly recommend it.
Thanks for sharing! I'll play round with this
Another screenshot of Hill Climb Racing running in one window, Adblock Browser in another window while Moonlight streaming runs in the background at 1080p 60fps (the stream keeps working with apps over it but you might need to disable App Pausing in XhaloFloatingWindow app)

6.0.1 customization advice

Have: Nexus 6P stock 6.0.1. Need: some customization. Items in green have a solution.
I've enabled Developer Mode and System UI Tweaker. I'd like to do this without root, or anything that would affect individual Google Play-installable apps. (The reason is, I need this device for final user release testing, so it should be what users have just from factory reset + install apps and normal OS upgrades):
Different wallpaper on Lock Screen than behind icons and widgets. (Tried: http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...-lock-screen-wallpaper-help-how-can-i-do.html - No triple dot menu visible in Wallpaper)
Full brightness on Lock screen instead of 90%, independent of brightness settings. ("OK" option: same brightness as manual brightness in Settings) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/home-lockscreen-brightness-t1704705 - no Lock Screen Options in Settings)
Disable peeking globally. ("OK" option: put them in the statusbar like 4.4.4) (I don't want to disable peeking for every new app I install: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Here...ifications-in-Android-6.0-Marshmallow_id75408) Temporary solution: I will manually disable peeking for every new app that shows them.
Global saturation setting for icons. (They're all saying "click ME!", that's an icon designer's job. With an excellent high-contrast screen like this, it's a crowd shouting.) ("OK" option: some other way of getting icons to look more Zen.) Icon packs for launchers are that "OK option", browsing tons on Google Play left Hexacon and Dual Shadow. So Hexacon.
Remove the Google Now bar from my Home Screen (without disabling any services). (As in, I taught the device my voice, so I don't need it there for me to tap. Tried: https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-remove-the-google-search-bar-from-your-android-homescreen - it's not long-tappable nor draggable, nor does it appear under Google Apps in Widgets.) Best solution so far: Nova Launcher.
I'd like to be able to do this:
Some quick way (preferably swipe) to access a more compact Quick Settings widget, like on my Xperia Z. I've reduced it to 9, can't remove "Invert Colors" and Location toggles.
Global Night Mode for everything in the System UI - to make it look similar to the Quick Settings. (This is a "like to" only because it's been promised in N. I really need it like, now. ) Best solution so far: Nova Launcher.
Basically I have the greatest phone, so I want it to look good at all times, and with the aim Clean, Fresh, Zen.
I posted here bc the forum was most specific. Feel free to refer or advise me how to best get answers as I joined tonight.
Any & all advice on single questions is appreciated Not possible is a valid answer, and I'm also prepared to wait for N if that's the answer.
I used to think of "ok google" as a novelty but its become more polished and if it remains reliable Ill continue to use it more& more. As it applies to keeping things clean it sort of does eliminate need for extra widgets.
If you have ok google everywhere u can just say " ok google...launch settings". Same goes for music apps, podcasts, youtube videos etc.
Started using a new app other day you might like called sesame edge. I set it on the right edge, virtually invisible and it brings up quick access to apps.

Thanks, trying it out. Also tried Sesame in the hope that it would let me set a different lock screen wallpaper, but it only had "their automatic lock screen wallpaper or off" as setting. I sent feedback to them, so let's see.

I dont use a lockscreen but on Pure Nexus which Im using now there is an option to set lockscreen wallpaper.
I use action launcher 3 which doesnt allow me to remove google bar (i dont think) but nova will let u do that. I like the bar cuz on action launcher i can put several shortcuts for whatever i want.
ASAP launcher is very minimal. Again you cant REMOVE the bar but swipe down and it turns into a simple clock widget.

Thx, tried Nova and it gives me Night Mode. Thanks for that Still, no way to have a different wallpaper on the lock screen than on the home screen, and I can find no Prime option for it either. Pure Nexus requires CM.
Can I mix and match this type of apps? Will they interfere with each other? Sesame seems to work with Nova at least.
What about Hi Locker? http://android.wonderhowto.com/how-to/get-back-lock-screen-customization-android-lollipop-0160204/
Can custom lock screens lock me out of my phone, make me butt dial, hog battery? I just want to change the gdmn background!
As I wrote, if some feature comes in N I'd rather wait than mess up my new phone.

Seems Im constantly tweaking things and having problems recalling exactly what I used. I know making lockscreen different from desktop is something Ive done many times. Do u have xposed? Pretty sure gravitybox has that option.
As far as butt dials, I use sweep to wake & it was a problem. Always remember to put it in your pocket screen facing out. I also need to do that when using bt headphones or else i get distortion. Anyways if i find something relevant Ill let u know.
Thx for suggestions!
I want weather, clock, and a background that matches my high-end case on the lock screen AND NOTHING ELSE, and then wherever there are icons I want a neutral background or just a color so I can see them properly. I think that's being a normal user with sensible demands.
Right now a huge dark gray or white slate COVERS the background anyway. I don't mind it, it lets me see the icons of all manner of variety and quality against something neutral, still... just allowing a background to set behind your icons seems to be an easy addition... since Froyo... Anyway, end rant about Simple Things. Android at least lets you customize them.
I'm battling notifications now. Light Manager is recommended for the 6P - testing it out now for notifications that are actually important, will report.

[Android] Any way to move or hide the Note Saver preview window?

I love using the Create Pad for note taking while reading (i.e. using Note Saver), but enabling note taking automatically opens the small live preview window in the bottom right of the screen.
Is there any way to close, resize or reposition this preview window without stopping note-taking mode?
The window is not too bad in landscape, but in portrait mode it often covers the content I'm trying to take notes of!
I am sure this still bugs most of us with the Android version. I decided to root and found if you disable com.hanvon.portableink (Floating Windows) that you can toggle all you want. Nothing happens apart from it toggles mode. If anyone knows of a non root way of disabling this it could be handy,

Split screen for any app?

Hi all,
I was excited to start using the split screen functionality like I used to do on my note3, but noticed that not all of my apps show the "split screen" option when I touch the apps ... dialog in the recent apps area.
Some examples of apps that DONT show the split screen option are:
Netflix
Gallery
Clash of Clans
Camera
But other apps DO allow it like youtube, chrome, and ebay
I hope I don't have to install some 3rd party multi window app to get the functionality.
Does anyone know of a way to enable this for all apps?
I'm running: Oneplus A6013, OOS 9.0.5, Magisk v17.1, 4.9.106-ElementalX-OP6-3.04#1
I figured it out!
Under Developer Options,
Scroll Down to "Force activities to be resizable" and enable the option
Reboot
Enjoy

At least in Android 10 it doesn't work.
It makes the apps "resizable", but not "splittable".
