I rooted with Towelroot but did nothing else. Will this prevent me from getting the OTA Android 5.0 update, when and if it comes available?
Thanks!
Once you root and alter system an OTA will never work.
I have rooted the altered some files then unrooted and OTA worked perfectly

Yes sorry I didnt add that ota is possible if you unroot the device. Ota isn't possible while rooted. Also I wouldn't expect 5.0 for a few months if at all. Verizon does updates so slow.
How do I unroot when I only have access to a Macbook Pro? Odin and stuff like that are Windows only.

Mobile odin
I looked at Mobile Odin, bought it, and ran it. Says device is not supported (SM-N900V : Verizon Note 3)!
Any other suggestions?
Almost all android phone can connect to a pc. Buy an old xp unit just for your phone flashing uses.

Unrooting using Framaroot, or use OTA Rootkeeper. Either way works, but be sure to reboot after unrooting. Otherwise you will just get the same error message about the system being modified. Also, if there any any bloat apps frozen or uninstalled, you will have to undo that (in addition to unroot) for the system to come up as not being modified.
This is a rather stupid move on Samsung's part.

Kies will still work for the update though, even modified, at least for me. I did however set Kies up with it stock & then selected the "Auto download updates" feature in Tools / firmware upgrade settings, so if there is an update, whenever I plug the N8 into my laptop, it tells me an update is available & then gives me the option to install it now or wait.
Even stranger though is that even modified, I can select to reprovision & install factory firmware (Upgrade & Initialization) on the Note 8, but now on the Note 10.1 once it says "modified" status, you lose the ability to provision & reset with Kies & you get the "N8013 does not support initialization" error, even though both are now running the MD3 firmware. Go figure.
Framaroot from the play store works to temporary unroot for purposes of updates. Just install it abd choose the option to temporarily unroot, then reboot and check for updates. It will download and install the update. I recommend another reboot when its finished. Then load up framaroot and restore root. All in all with a fast internet connection the whole process may take 10 minutes.

I tried using Framaroot to unroot my rooted N5100. I then checked for updates and it told me that they are not available to modified devices. I then even tried uninstalling everything and doing a factory reset and im still not able to check for updates. Any idea how to get my device back to the way it was out the box so i can check for updates?

No. The new boot loader checks the system partition for changes. So if you even have the SU binary or any other modified or new files in the System folder or any subfolder, it will not work for updates.
On other devices, like the Note 10.1, you have to revert to an older boot.img to be able to keep the status as unchanged. Unfortunately, that doesn't exist for the Note 8 as far as I know.
I have modified my multiwindow to work with all apps. When I used rootkeeper I was still able to update so I giess it works with some mods but not all.

Hi Guys,
I rooted my Samsung S4 (GT-9505) using motochopper, but since discovered some of my apps don't work with a rooted device.
I would like to unroot it back to factory settings.
What do I need to do? Is it a case of downloading an official ROM and using ODIN to flash the official bios back on?
I have reset the counter with TRIANGLE but my device status is still 'custom' and not official.
Is there a simple way of removing the root that motochopper adds or is an official ROM the only way?
Im in the UK and would like to flash to the latest Vodafone ROM and unrooted as new.
Many thanks
First of all, there's no app that would stop working because of a rooted device. Rooting just gains you administrator privileges, nothing more, nothing less. And yes, the best way to unroot and get the official status back is to download and flash an official rom through Odin.

Many thanks for your reply,
Unfortunatly your wrong there, Barclays PingIt (my bank account) knows when a phone has been rooted and displays an error page saying its breaching security and stops the app from working!! Crazy I know.
You can uninstall super su then reboot the phone.
You can get instructions from the Exynos Abuse thread by chainfire. It's at the bottom.

Hello there
I found that flixster wouldn't stream ultraviolet movies with root. I did find that using voodoo ota root keeper from play store helps that. Click on temp unroot, then when you've finished using that app that doesn't allow root, restore root. Unsure that this will work for you, but no harm in trying.

You cannot update a rooted device via OTA - it'll download, but it won't install. You have to unroot to install it, and I don't even think it works. - Better flashing it via Odin, then re-rooting.
I installed this new room now I lost my Root. Is there no way to get it BACK? I NEED titanium bad

I can't see a signature in the mobile app, so forgive me if it is stated. This may not work if he is in US. The i337 is not listed as a compatible model, most likely because of the locked bootloader.
That app sounds great though. I will have to remember it for other unlocked Samsung phones.

Odin probably wouldn't work because we can't get custom recoveries onto our devices.
Any other root methods available for 4.4.2?
You mean it's been a whole WEEK and we don't root for this yet???
What are we paying all these devs for?

So I saw an update for "performance improvements" (~200MB) on my rooted 900F. I unrooted and updated. No problem. Once I reboot there is a second update ~1.2MB. I installed that and rebooted, tried to run towelroot and it says device not supported. Tried a few different modstring values including the temp root and none of them work.
Moral of the story; don't update if you want to towelroot.

Hard to say, it doesn't seem much different but I've only had it installed a couple of hours and not used the phone too much yet.
I can tell you, however that it adds more bloat! There is at least one new app I noticed called "My Galaxy"
EDIT: Also, they've changed the animation for fingerprint unlock failure to some horrible alarming flashing red/white thing instead of the subtle one it was before.

Because I'm an software engineer and I know exactly what I'm doing by rooting.
Denying root with this knox and other bull***, locked bootloaders, etc, is totally unacceptable to me.
I refuse to lose warranty for some hardware fault that might occur (and I've had many issues over the years and dozens of phones) on something I own because I got "root" access.
I dare someone to tell me that I've lost warranty on my laptop because I installed CentOS, logged in as root and twiddled with my bootloader.
It's entirely and utterly a matter of principle.
Don't expect you to agree, just helping you to "understand".

Quite simple, when you see the ota, remove ALL changes yiu nade to system (e.g. adblock hosts file)unroot from within SuperSU, then reboot then accept the OTA.
Bare in mind if you do this, there is currently no way to root again without knox trip
