I have a rooted Note 3, snapdragon variant. Rooted with towelroot
The main reason i rooted was to change the screen's dpi; i cant stand having everything oversized at 480dpi
I changed the dpi by editing the build.prop
My question is, what would happen if i unrooted (through SuperSU) and then did a factory reset without manually changing the dpi back to default?
Would it stay changed or would it revert to 480?

It will stay. Factory Reset doesn't touch System Files, it only removes the User (Data) Files. It's not like an flash with Odin.
So all changes you're doing with your System won't revert by doing an Factory Reset.

So I can have, say, 380dpi settings even if i unroot by not changing the build.prop back?
What happens if i want to change it back to the default?
I'd have to root again so that i can edit the build.prop?

Exactly.

Of course it stayed at the value you have set.
Because the build.prop file is on system partition. And factory reset only affect the userdata, not system partition.
What if i update my firmware?

Is there a way to factory reset the Vibrant to, well factory settings? I tried it from the menu>privacy, but that really didn't do anything. I want to clean up the system files. How do I go about doing this?
That method does wipe the phone and returns it factory new, software wise. What exactly is not going away when you perform that?

You can also do a factory reset from clockwork recovery if you are rooted and have it setup.
If you manually removed any files from system/app or copied any new ones into there, then a factory reset wipe/data/cache will not restore or remove those apps.
Just adding this in, in the event you did modify anything in this folder.
You would have to replace the files removed, delete the ones added, or perform a flash via odin to restore the app folder to its original condition.

Hi,
I got many times the message, in google play, that app xx is not for my device.
After googeling about this issue, I have found that there is the possibility to change this when I change some values in the build.prop.
I have change this values and after a reboot I stick to the yellow triangle boot menu.
I can change to recovery mode and I have CWM 5.5.0.4 there
Is there a possibility to change the values in the build.prop or must I flash over PC Odin to get the device back to normal working?
Many thanks for your help.
BR Al
i dont get what you mean ?
Do you want to edit the build.prop but are wondering how to get the original one back if it fails ?
Or have you already changed it ?
I have already changed it and rebooted.
Now I get stucked.
Oh I see, re flash the ROM that should suffice

is this the only way?
try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1099822&d=1338587068
Download it, remove the build.prop, copy the build.prop from your current ROM and place it into the zip.
Then flash it in CWM
well I flashed now the lq2 lp6 lpt stock :crying:, of course there is no root NOW, I will look into the other threads to get root back.
Thanks for your help.
btw. maybe anyone can help me to remove the google play restriction for the apps?
Thanks

What apps are you getting restrictions on? There are various different levels, including tablet and tegra.

sounds like you might have changed the lcd density to a non standard one
So I have a Verizon SGIII rooted with recovery. I changed my LDC Desnity to 270 with ROM Toolbox, then I installed LCD Density Modder and used that do change it back to 320 (what I thought was the default value). Now when I boot up my phone I get to the Samsung Galaxy SIII logo and then the screen just goes black. Doesn't respond to touch or anything. I'm now trying to mount my system through recovery but it won't work for some reason.
Is there some way I can fix this through recovery?? Will a cache wipe or something reset the LCD density?
Thanks
Did you make a nandroid backup before hand ? If so you could try advance restore and restoring system from a nandroid backup. Or just do a full restore.

Unfortunately I didn't. But if I have to do a full restore I can. Is this the "Factory Reset" option?
connect your device to samsung kies maybe? you can do stuff on your phone with the pc i think theres restore as well

If you don't wanna mess around with adb commands to pull the build.prop and fix it manually just reflash your rom.

And downloaded the app "Emoji Install & Keyboard ROOT" and once I realized how bad the app was, I uninstalled it and unrooted my phone and did a factory restore but when others send me emoticons they still come up as the font that the ****ty app installed. If I already uninstalled it, and I already did a factory reset, how do I get my original android emoticons back??
Unless you feel like messing with a root file explorer, the easiest way would be to Odin back to stock. Sounds like this crapware/malware used root access to install itself to /system.

Umm that's kind of the whole point of the app. It replaces your system font within /system/fonts/. So yes, it writes to /system.

Uninstalling the app got rid of the keyboard part. Unrooting got rid of yours and anyone else's access to the root level (including /system). And factory restoring cleared your data. None of that touched the newly replaced fonts within /system/fonts/. You will either need to manually revert your fonts back to their originals (after rooting again of course) or just reflash your ROM or Odin back to stock. Any ROM flash will fix it since that will replace your /system partition.

Thank you for the quick reply. I've been wanting to learn more about the Android OS so I'm glad I found this site. Seems like a lot of people know their stuff here.
I did the twrp method of rooting and would like to know show to get my system back to factory. also how would I go about getting my system to a fresh state of root? would using the twrp recovery factory reset just basically reset my system back to a fresh root state? I applied a bunch of tweaks and my system is acting funny. thanks for the help

A factory reset will NOT cause you to lose root.
Using googles factory images you can do a full reset to stock including system. Its like a new device except it doesn't change the bootloader status.

I don't think Google has released factory images yet (for this model) on the developer website. They weren't there last time I checked.

Those will get you to the equivalent of or close to factory (one of them is pre-rooted), which may be all the OP wants to do.
However they aren't technically Google's factory images.
