[Q] How to reset DPI? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used ADB shell to tinker with my device's DPI.
I set it to 200, and TouchWiz and the system UI stopped working. I tried resetting the phone to see if they adjusted to the new DPI but they didn't. Now I can't get into ADB shell because I can't give the authorization because the UI crashes.
Any ideas on how to reset the DPI? My S5 is not rooted.

ROM Toolbox pro LCD density "ow no what have i done help me please"

hi all i installed the rocketrom v7 this morning and well ive been playing and messed something up. i installed ROM Toolbox pro and i wanted to see if i could get dungeon defenders second wave controls to fit the screen correctly so i can play it, so i edited the LCD density setting from 320 to 280 and after the reboot went to make a call and the call dialer isnt full screen any more its less due to the hack.. ive not even tried the game yet but i went back into ROM Toolbox pro and fount that i cant set it back at 320 as the slider only maxes at 280
please advise me on this, is their a solution without wiping rom?
You have root I presume - just edit /system/build.prop - the "density" might be in there twice - change both.
You can edit it using a shell (su root first) or using adb:
adb remount /system
adb pull /system/build.prop
<edit>
adb push build.prop /system
<reboot>

Or just reflash the rom and wipe cache an dalvik cache afterwards and reboot.

worked a charm. set back to 320 and now all is good and new
ps is their a way to set PER app density.. ie have a single app run at different settings, i would like to keep 280 but seen as stuff like dialer/spen/email ect doesn't work well with it keeping 320 default but a few apps like games with a lower value of 240/280 that would be epic for me ?
ps yes im fully rooted mate

The only ROM that can do that is ParanoidAndroid.
You can also just use an alternative dialer, like Go dailer, that is what i do on lower density

Also, if you have custom dpi and want to use stock dialer there is a setting in accessibility to enable one handed operation. This will rescale the dialer pad to full usability again.
V 0.3 of paranoid does indeed have a couple of glitches with GPS (although I upgraded from v0.2 and don't experience it], but v0.2a is totally bug free and well worth a look. In the latest couple of pages on the thread there's a link to someones dropbox for the download. Highly recommend it!

WTF !!!
Hello,
I have used the rom tool box pro to setup the lcd to 160 instead of the default setting and now my phone doesn't finish booting, i am stuck at the error message "unfortunately Touchwiz has stopped" disapperas and then another one shows up "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" ... due that the launcher has stopped responding and i had luckily usd USB DUBEG option earlier i could thru ADB reboot to firmware mode taker a NANDROID backup ... deleted dalvik and cache partitions didnt help , and finally did a hard reset / factory default thru the boot loader
result is:
factory reset worked and had to setup the phone again, but the LCD density is still 160, after I finished the new phone setup am stuck again at the above two messages immediately after setup is done !!!!!
What can i do now especially that i cannot connect thru ADB since the phone settings is not set to USB Debug ........
Thanks

Hard reset should have corrected the setting, not sure why it didn't. If you're on stock kernel, don't try it again in case of hard brick. I would suggest flashing again with pc Odin. There have been some people who've managed to create a flash able zip with stock buildprop file and stock dpi, but you'll have to search for that, not sure if it was ever achieved, worth a go.

Weird camera problem- half screen is black

Weird problem appear suddenly.
I have the device for a week.
The device is 802 inter include root only.
The photo show how the screen look from inside the camera apk.
Already tried to delet camera apk cashe files and gallery apk cashe files & tried Titanium backup.
did you change your dpi settings? it does that to me only when I change the dpi.
Yes, but I changed it back to 420.
Still the same.
You should change to 480, not 420.
Try it.
Root only eh

how can I change the camera dpi only?..
Using Xposed Installer > Download > App Settings
After that, enable the module.
Launch App Settings
Your camera should be fine after that.
So, the question is, after change to 480DPI, is normal right? So I assume not hardware problem, only DPI problem.
Ty, I perfer to reinstall the rom.

[HowTo] Android Pay, G4, and Custom DPIs

Google is offering a FREE Chromecast for users who use Android Pay 10 times:
http://slickdeals.net/f/8443819-chromecast-free-with-offer-at-google-store-with-android-pay-ymmv
However if you run a custom DPI, it will fail to setup. I looked everywhere and really only found articles talking about being rooted.
The Solution is easy: Change DPI back to stock, launch the App, setup a Credit Card to completion, and change the DPI back. Once it is setup, the app will launch normally.
Using ADB, to go to stock DPI
Code:
adb shell wm density 640 && adb reboot
And to go back to custom DPI (I use 540 but use whatever you had/want)
Code:
adb shell wm density 540 && adb reboot
Hopefully this information will be useful to someone.
I don't have any custom DPI and was still unable to use the app. I run Genesys LP Rom (too many issues with sd on MM that I see). That may be the reason. I haven't tried on my stock but rooted tablet.
You cannot be rooted either unless you use a app to hide root like rootcloaker.

Change launcher

Hi,
Is it any ways to use sideload launcher insted default on ultratablet.
I have tried - on 2.0 got root with KingRoot, the from shell entered pm disable filelauncher. After that tablet always stay on boot logo.

I experimentrd with Remix OS launcer on another tablets, and everything was ok.

adb commands are not effective

Hello
According to the forum research if i
- perform factory reset then the previously debloated apps will be reinstalled
- they can be reinstalled by adb command adb shell cmd package install-existing com.android.something without needing to factory reset.
- disabled (frozen) apps can be enabled through adb pm enable <packagename>
I have tried al three but it does not work. the commands were correctly used.
- If i perform factory reset (tried only through twrp recovery clearing cache, dalvik, data) then after initial setup the previously debloated apps are not back (i did not try factory reset through system settings yet because i dont know how it affects magisk)
Edit: only Kids mode got reinstalled. strange!
- If i use adb command adb shell cmd package install-existing com.android.something the terminal gives back that "the app was succesfully installed to user 0" but after checking the tablet the app is nowhere. I have tried it using the newest adb fastboot toolkit which has a nice terminal UI so i can reinstall all apps at once- which apps should be present on the tablet they give back "the app was succesfully installed to user 0" (they were uninstalled from user 0 so installing to user 0 should be fine) but they are not reinstalled.
- Titanium backup had accidentally frozen two apps, one is smart things, the second it android system webview- i cannot defrost them through titanium backup. I have tried several apps but none of them defrosts back. I have tried adb command pm enable <packagename> which gives me message "package succesfully enabled" but after checking state through adb pm list packages -d or tablet app setting they are still frozen.
My samsung tablet is rooted (at least i believe rooting was succesful because root checker says that) and on stock ROM.. It is strange that none of these commands are effective.
Does anybody have any clue why?
Thank you
