Screen problem/ resolution change - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Touch at the of the screen of my other NEXUS 4 does not work. I'm not able to pull down the notification bar at portrait position. The shop confirmed it's hardware problem but I'd like to have a workaround on this. Says...
1. Can I change the threshold of how the notification bar can be pulled? Add it a little more so I can pull it down.
2. Can I change the screen resolution and not using the top of the screen?
I suspect that I can root and change the build.prop but I don't know which line to change/add.
Any suggestion is appreciated. I don't wanna buy a new phone now since I wanna wait for more 64bit options.
Regards,
J

Status bar

On the Status Bar at the top right of my A7 screen, there 5 items. One is the clock; next to that battery strength; airplane mode and then one I don't know what it is. Can someone help me and tell me what it is?
It looks like a small picture of the tablet with two little lines on left and right of it (something, maybe, to indicate movement or shaking).
Does anyone know what that is and where I could see the setting for that icon?
unknown icon
News to me. I dont have it on mine. Go into settings, applications l, running services and disaple things one at a time untill it goes away!
That icon means that vibration is on usually indicating sound is disabled (if you slid the wrong bar on the lock screen).
Yet another question that could have been answered by the manual...

[Q] Paranoidandroid SD density

I have a question about the paranoidandroid Sd and thought i would ask here in the question forum first rather than putting it in the development forum.
I want to change the density of my softkeys in the status bar because when there enabled they cover half the status bar and the rest is covered by the time, batt and other info, so when ever i get a message or notification it overlaps, i know it will make the keys smaller and harder to touch but i only ever use the one key anyway, thanks for any help
I am running my phone in tablet mode
Things ive tried
Changing the DPI in nova
Changing the global density

You could use a launcher like nova. It allows you to add gestures to do certain actions. One of them is pulling down the status bar. You could for example make it so that pulling down anywhere on the screen when you're at the homepage, would pull down the status bar.

yes i have the same issue, i did the following
install xposed
install xposed module - dimensions editor
change to whatever size you want.
for me dimension editor v2 doesn't work, so use the previous version.
thanks @cybervibin its really works
And also the screen touch anywhere randomly for few minute's and again after few hours its there any fix for this ?
sounds like you dropped your phone in water, no just wait for it to pass.

[Pure curiosity][Mod idea] Is there any way to extend the screen to the secondary?

Since most of today's phones have a notch, why not this one too?
Imo, it would look better using the secondary display as a part of the main display.
Only the notification icons would need to be shifted a little more to the right.
Like, is it even possible to disable the hardware keys, enable a navbar and on the navbar modify HTC's immersive mode button to not only hide the navbar, but the secondary screen too?
And, like on any other HTC, when you's swipe up from the bottom of the screen it would show the navbar again, but this time also the secondary screen.

That's dope. I guess it just needs a little bit more tinkering to show stuff properly the right way up.

Status or Notification Bar too small for Samsung phone

Hi all,
I remember during the s9 or note9 generation, when we zoom the display, the status bar will be bigger too. But after note10, note20. The status bar size stagnant and will not change even after zoom.
My question is, is that possible to modify to make it bigger without rooting the phone? Because I use phone for business which knox is required and also using samsung pay all the while.
I remember adb push can be done without rooting. Please advise.
Yes
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ow-to-increase-size-status-bar-icons-t4173231
I managed to find the solution now. I am running Android 11 and Zoom Display is max.
Step by step:-
1) Go to "Developer Options"
2) Go to "Simulate display with cutout"
3) Choose "waterfall cutout"
4) You will see the screen looks narrow with "waterfall cutout" but the icon on status bar become bigger. Under "Minimum Width", you should see it auto adjusted to 279 dp.
5) Reboot your phone.
6) Then go back to "Simulate display with cutout".
7) Change to "Default"
yippee .. you should see your status bar become bigger now.
If you try to reboot, maybe it may turn back to small again. Please try out and let me know.
It's been a while and through last 2 years the world has changed, but possibilities Samsung gives us on Android 12 remain restrained. Ive just got Galaxy Z Flip 3 and encountered the same irritation that status bar is too small and you cant do much about it in settings, as font size and screen zoom dont affect status bar size. Same as others my minimal minimal ppi is 320, the trick with notch simulation doesnt work and there is no option for changing display resolution. But finally after 3 days of learning and tinkering I found probably the ultimate solution. Im leaving it here for next generations dealing with android systems lacking options about status bar.
You need to use ADB commands on your phone connected to PC to custom change ppi value. You can also change resolution, although that seems unnecessary for making status bar bigger. Especially helpful on setting up ADB and providing commands is this tutorial: https://nerdschalk.com/change-screen-resolution-adb-android/
To sum up: you unlock developer options on your phone and there enable USB debugging, connect phone with usb cable to your PC, where you have android SDK downloaded, on PC open cmd directing "platform-tools" folder and then run command
adb shell wm density x
where x is desired ppi. I cant tell which number will work for you. For me 550 was perfect to make status bar significantly bigger. Given that ppi is what I think it is, the default value was 425, so I set it to about 125%.
To make change work you need to reboot the phone, preferably with command
adb reboot
It will probably affect other elements of layout. Remember to not mess with screen zoom setting because it will turn ppi to "normal" values. You can change font sizes freely.
I just wanted to share this, hope it will help anyone in need.
I can confirm that after jumping through a few hoops to make this work, issuing the command
adb shell wm density x
DRAMATICALLY AFFECTED EVERYTHING BUT THE STATUS BAR!
There was an update to Android 13 on Nov 17 that made the status bar barely respond to any efforts to change the size. Font and Zoom settings don't affect it at all, and with adb I could only succeed in making it smaller.
On the off chance rebooting after changing the screen would help, I rebooted after doubling the density and cutting the resolution in half. Thank goodness I had a keyboard and OTG cable, or I would have had to reset the phone! The phone would no longer display the buttons to enter the security PIN!
At no point in any of my experiments did the status bar get significantly bigger. I could ONLY MAKE IT SMALLER.
Man this sucks. Just updated tto android 13 and so far every attempt to make the status bar icons bigger have failed. I need an electron microscope to read the effing statusbar.
Installed an app named super status bar and it works
