Does anyone know how an Android wear smartwatch checks for firmware updates?
is it the phone app that check for the update and then the watch checks the phone?
or does the watch check on the internet (via the phone's connection)?
thanks,
andy.
It seems to notify you once its been told that an update is available. I say this because it says its up to date while offline. It can't have possibly checked. It seems to me that the android wear app on your phone would be the thing that actually checks for updates.

Sorry if this was asked before...
I am about to buy an imported Nexus One, I will use it on a GSM carrier in another country (google doesn't sell it here).
In the future, when there will be an official firmware update available, who be will providing it to consumers ? Is it Google, HTC, or only the official carriers like T-Mobile ? Will I be able to download it somewhere, or will I unable to upgrade without voiding the warranty ?
Thanks
you will most likely be able to manualy update by downloading and installing it your self.
htc will look at the official site
It will be FOTA...
How does OTA updates work, technically ? Does it need a special cooperation of my service provider or is it via any internet connection ?
I remember the OTA updates for the G1 needed to be pushed by the service provider, and if your carrier doesn't want you to have the update, you'd never have it. I hope it's not like that for an unlocked phone but I haven't found any info anywhere about that.
This is what I know + my personal logic: an ota is data so its going to be over your internet. And your provider will have to allow it. For those with tmo obviously otas come no problem, tmo expects to push them for google. I've never gotten one I'm always too impatient and I do it manually. So you'll receive it through your data connection but the always available alternative is to manually update it. The point is, even if a carrier prevents it from transmitting, it'll end up online and you will be able to get and install it. And it doesn't require rooting or any special level of knowledge in my opinion.
What about for those who TMO has no idea that we are currently running this phone? Will the OTA still be available?
Thanks
Yes every firmware update so far has turned up on the web to be installed manually. I don't anticipate the next update to be any different in that regard. It isn't google or a carrier but smart consumers who have received the ota and are nice enough to put it on the internet for public consumption

I was prompted by by N1 to check for updates and did so OTA via the phone.
On the google forum, one of the google employees said that the phone can check a google server for updates, and then you can choose to download over wifi or 3G, and install.
unfortunately the forum won't let me post an external link... so I can't show you the thread
post the link please
you can just add some space in the URL , or just remove the ht from h t t p . we can understand it .
the information is important.

I'm pretty happy with this phine right now, but I can't get info from system update menu.
If I use 3G data connection, update checking process interrupts with "update checking is currently not available" message, if I use WiFi connection, it just keeps checking forever, AFAIK it must at least say that my device is up to date, but it never happens.
Is it a common bug or should I blame my bad luck?
I would assume there aren't any system updates right now anyway. The handset is running eclair and froyo is not expected yet.
My Verizon Sony Xperia Play (R800x) mentions about twice a day how it wants to check for an update, and that it can only update over 3G, so it will now turn off Wifi, etc. Now, when it finally does check, it will either:
- Check forever, or
- Say that no update is available
The update history also shows that there has never been a software update done on the phone, and the Android version is still 2.3.2. What gives?
I have a verizon version. I'm getting the same notification, but no update available. I have tried to use sony update service and over the 3G still get no update available.
happened to me twice, turned off wifi went in and manually checked says no update and if u look at info says failed. but now i dont get the popup anymore..
Same here, I had assumed it was an update for vcast or one of the many apps that we can download games from updating the games that are available
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
Just got the 2014 and have been hearing about an update right out of the box - but I haven't seen anything.
My build number is P600UEUAMIE
Any thoughts?
It is being rolled out now. I'm not sure of the selection process but you don't have to do anything. The device will notify you once it receives notice. After that, just accept or delay it.
There has been 2 updates now. Just make sure you're connected to the wifis and it should come to you. Also you can go to system settings and check for updates yourself.

It's been connected to wifi since the moment I turned it on and I've checked for updates manually as well.
Is there something else I should do?
Hi all,
I received today my german AFTV but before I connect it to the network I blocked the two software update domains. Now I have the issue that I can not skip the software update at the beginn. Everytime it ask for a update but based on the block it can not find any update.
The question is how can I skip the first software update screen?

Does it prompt you for the language selection? It should. If so it doesn't matter if you take the update because it ships with 51.1.3.0 to begin with.
The language selection was also showing up but anyway based on your post I removed the block and update the FireTV (51.1.3.0_513011820) and the Controller (v66). Now I blocked it again and hope we will get soon root :good:
I didn't bother blocking anything...I simply connected it to my phone and put it in 3g only mode to give it so slow of a connection that it would take an hour to download the file...plenty of time for me to root it and stop it

How does this allow you to root it? Don't you have to wait for the update to download, then reboot before you can get any further?
